Dear tourists, I am a local Budapest tour guide, I can confirm Akos advices wholeheartedly, honestly, humbly, straightforwardly, ethically, no tricks whatsoever. Listen to him! 🙌🏽
I love your videos, and Ilive that you are a local. I am bringing my father to Budapest in June 2024. He grew up in Budapest. He and his family left in 1956 during the revolution, and he has not been back since. He will be 81 this year. Your videos are really informative. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I hope you'll have a lovely time here in June and your father can also share some stories as he walks again on the streets he grew up on 😊
That’s awesome! I lived in Bp from 92-96 and I am going back after 30 years with my youngest son ❤ we are so excited. I find all of this information still true today. It’s definitely more expensive now but still affordable ❤
Szia Akos!! I found your channel like 30 minutes ago and I absolutely love your content. I visited Veli Bej fürdö in 2019 and that was truly amazing. A bit weird opening hours but the lack of tourists made it a unique experience. Thank god for your correct pronunciation of the hungarian names and places. 👍 Közönöm szepen and keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! Happy to read you enjoy our content! :) Veli Bej may have the weird opening hours indeed, but it's totally worth fitting it into a program 😊
Regarding transport from the Airport, we bought a 72 hour Budapest travelcard. It is not valid on the direct bus 100e in the city centre, but is valid on the 200e bus to Kobanya Kipest where you change to the M3 metro service that is free also on your travelcard. Both buses frequent, most of the day and easily accessible outside the airport.
Szia. nagyszerű videó és kiváló információk a nyugati utazók számára. Külföldi tartózkodásom után végre visszatértem, és elküldöm ezt a videót néhány barátomnak.
Hi Ákos - thank you for all your videos! I am slowly going through your play list, pausing them to look on google maps and making lots of notes.... looking forward to my visit in August. However, I have a technical question.... what editing software do you use? and what camera for the videos? I make videos myself (although not many on TH-cam) but like the style of your pop-up titles etc. thanks, Phil.
Hope you'll have a great time when you visit 😀 For editing most of the videos I use Premiere Pro and use other products by Adobe to make the graphics and visuals etc. For shooting I use a Sony A7C camera combined with a 24-105 /F4 lens.
Thanks for all your videos, we have viewed and re-viewed in preparation for our November trip. Really great insights. I wonder if you can give us some tourist language tips? I'm particularly thinking about things like place names! I've got the "s = sh" thing (BudapESHT not BudapEST) but what the heck do I do with Rakoczi or even "utca" and "ter"? I know Hungarian is hard to learn and I really just want the polite words that show I'm trying (köszönöm!). But also I feel like if I'm just trying to get directions no one will understand me. :)
Thank you so much for watching our videos :) Will see what we can do regarding language tips, it's an idea we've been marinating for some time, so there may be something on the topic eventually :)
Hey! Thank you for being so helpful! I have a question for you. If I buy a 24-hour or 72-hour travel pass, should I always verify the ticket (for example, on the app with the QR code or the printed copy)? Thanks in advance!
Hey there, if you have a pass you only need to scan the QR code if a bus is Front boarding, so you need to show your pass basically to the driver but mostly it's buses in the outskirts where this is needed, in the inner city it will be board wherever you want, no need to scan. In all other cases, only if the BKK ticket validator folks ask for your pass that's when you need to bring up the "show for control" part in the app. Have a nice stay 😊
We are a senior couple from India planning to visit Budapest and Czech in May 2025. Are there low-priced eateries/canteens where vegetarian dishes will be available in Budapest ? Any good low-priced lodges you can suggest in Budapest ? We have enjoyed all your videos.
Hey there! There area eating houses which mostly operate Monday to Friday to serve cheap meals especially for lunch time, they can be found as "Étkezde" or "Kifőzde" on Google maps. I won't lie, the line up even at these places won't include a ton of vegeterian options but there will be some for sure. You can also try using the Happy Cow app to search for Vegetarian or Vegan restaurants. Regarding accommodation unfortunately I don't have any recommendations since I never stayed at any hotel in Budapest as a local, but you can search and filter on places like booking.com to find the most suitable for you 😊
I took a freelancer cab by mistake. He wanted 14.000 forint for a 5min cab drive. I drove 12 taxis on my trip, all of them less than 4500 forint. I told him that, also told him to get the price down or I would just leave the cab without paying anything. Didn’t realize he was a freelancer. He said something about him not being a Uber driver like the other ones I used(which was not Uber, it was bolt) however, I got him down to 8000, paid him and told him to F off on the way out😂 totally ruined my night, just had the best evening cruise on the Danube. But yea, use Bolt, they are the best
Thanks for sharing your story! Indeed it's a pitty that we still have this burden... luckily with companies and having apps to have proof of travel things are better these days, it's just those pesky "freelancer"s causing the negative experiences... but I hope other than that, you still had a good time in the city overall :)
Hey there! You can check the formula 1 hungarian gp website few weeks before the race usually then they list ways of getting to the circuit (there are always special services operated for getting to and from the track). August is one of the hottest months, but sometimes a storm comes and goes (which results in some good races at times 😃). Other then these notes, just enjoy the city, and perhaps if you are here for a week, go to the Countryside, maybe to Szentendre for a day or if you care to travel a bit further then visit Lake Balaton for a chill time 😊
Your channel is very imformative as you are local. I plan to travel Budapest from 1st May till 9th May. But some of my friends say it is too long to stay at Budapest only. Do you have any advise to spend more useful and look around hungary other areas you recommend to soend time?
Hello there! 8-9 days in Budapest only may indeed be a bit long but there are many places you can easily reach from here and have some great daytrips: Szentendre is one of the easiest ones to reach or Gödöllő with the Sissy Palace. Places like Visegrád, Esztergom or a bit further to Eger, Győr, Székesfehérvár. The Buda mountains have a lot of nice areas to hike. I can go on for hours, but if you look at our playlist for "Around Hungary" you may get some ideas :)
Just stumbled upon your channel!! We are visiting Budapest in July this year with our 8 year old child!! And recommendations?? Also how drone friendly is the city?
Hey there! Drones are regulated, depending on the weight of the drone it may need to be registered and flight areas need to be booked (anything abote 120 grams). If you search for Drone laws in Hungary the article on legter.hu gives a good overview. For children I believe Margaret Island can be a fun place (you can rent a buggy and cycle around together the island there are even some playgrounds and a nice beach as well with pools and slides). Városliget city park can also be fun, there is the balloon ride, the city zoo and also a large playground, during the summer you can do family boatrides on the lake next to the Heroes Square :) Normafa is a nice area in the Buda mountains where there is a large playground and opportunity to hike in the woods and visit a lookout spot (Elisabeth lookout tower). I hope you'll have a lot of fun here :)
Yeah unfortunately for some reason this is applicable for non EU citizens. I know only about the Parliament that does this. Is there another place as well where you had this experience?
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures The House of Terror has discounts available for those under 25 and over 62 who are from the EU but if you're not in the EU you pay full price
All geopolitical or else discrimination should be banned in EU period. In Spain, if you're not lical, you'll be charged like 50% more for a beer or tapa. I'm so pissed that these tapas bars dont have prises listed anywhere, and when I asked for a price list after thez charged me 4.20 euro for a 400ml beer, the answer was they dont have a price list, and they dictate the price. Hello, i am just your new subscriber.. thanks a lot to your videos it helps me alot, i will be in budapest this february 20 to 23.. can you recomend someone for tour guide tat offer a tour package there? Thanks in advance
Hello there! Thanks for Subbing, glad to hear our videos can help! :) I personally don't know tourguides, however in Facebook groups like "Budapest Holiday, Hotel and Travel Tips for Tourists" and "Things to Do in Budapest" many of them are active and glad to offer their services, and you can also find recommendations from other visitors of Budapest. I would drop a post into these groups or search for existing posts with recommendations :) I hope that helps!
There are many in the city center around Deák Ferenc square, Vörösmarty square or Váci street. Just take a stroll and check the prices, they are much better than ones at the airport. Many of them are part of large chains, so it's safe to exchange there.
Hey there! To be fair, I haven't been to any of these restaurants as unfortunately they are out of our price range, but for example Gundel is a historic restaurant, the birthplace of the Gundel Crepe dessert and highly regarded in the Hungarian culinary history. Other places that are well regarded are Borkonyha, Rosenstein or Essencia. There are many other new wave high quality restaurants as well, but these ones came to my mind when thinking about this question deeper. 😊
Do you have content on personal safety in Budapest . I was there last in 2015 , maybe things have changed since then. I know my own capital city , Dublin is not as safe as it once was and there are new “ no go “ areas . Has Budapest changed significantly with regard to personal safety in the last 5 to 10;years ? Last time I was there I walked around and used public transport alone during the day ( female ) and I felt safe . I’m visiting in September. Is it safe to take out your phone on the street . I understand the usual precautions that one must take but is there anything I need to be especially aware of , safety wise ?
Hey there! Budapest is still generally safe, there are no "no go" areas. Just need to keep a general cautious mind, so when you are in crowded areas make sure your bag is closed and it's not easy for pick pockets to take anything. The situation is not bad at all, but it doesnt mean there aren't any pick pockets or scammers like those who want to invite you in to bars and clubs. Just avoid suspicious folks and you'll be fine, Budapest is a safe place in my opinion. 😊
Hey there! Unfortunately they do not withhold tickets specifically for seniors for the sold out days, however each morning when they open they release some extra tickets to be purchased on the spot. So if you go there early you may be able to get tickets even if the online ticket website says they are sold out. I hope this helps 😊
In the bars in the downtown like in the ruin bars, people are generally pretty chill, so people can go alone if they want to. Perhaps if someone is dressed in a very revealing way that may attract attention of some drunk guys, but I think that's unfortunately everywhere in the world.
I personally don't go on tours but that doesnt mean they aren't a good way to explore a city. I see a lot of ebike tours and those "tourist-chopper" tours, and people seem to have fun with them :) However I think that walking tours are a bit better, more laid back, you don't need to pay attention to traffic and other pedestrians when going from A to B :)
Hey there! Honestly all 3 carriers are good enough in terms of coverage and quality if you explore Budapest. There is a Yettel stand right at the airport and they offer tourist specific short term usage deals, but you can also visit a Telekom or Vodafone store in the city, or another Yettel branch. There you may get better deals depending on your requirements. Just note that you'll need to show ID in order to get a deal with them and a sim card. Either go with the Yettel offers at airport or check which brand has a store closest to your hotel 😊
Thank You@@StuffedCabbageAdventures. All your tips are awesome, we are arriving on friday to budapest for a 4 days trip. Hope weather will be good enough to enjoy the city.
Hey there! In all honesty I believe that a car in Budapest isn't the best option, public transport is reliable, fast and cheap. Getting a parking space can be a hastle and it can be expensive if you need to park for longer in the city center.
Hi, I just discovered your page, thank you for this video. I was wondering If Budapest Pass is for 1 person or if I can use it for more than 1 person at the same time. what would you suggest I to get for a transportation pass, we are 4 ppl, staying only for 3 days! Thank you
If you mean the Budapest Card, that's for a single person as it also applies as a public transport pass. It's only worth it if you visit a lot of museums and attractions. Honestly the regular public transport pass is better (BKK is the transportation company here). Regarding the passes, for 3 days most likely the 72 hours pass is best if you use public transport on average 5 times daily. So if this is the best or single tickets depends on how often you use public transport and how much you walk instead. Just note that the passes do not cover the airport special service bus that needs a separate ticket. And yep, each individual needs a separate pass 😊
Hey there! Regarding concerts my go to places are usually A38 ship or Aquarium Hall. Other places like Analog Music Hall, Dürer Kert or Barba Negra are found a bit further out of the city, and Budapest Park is also a great place but it only opens at the very end of April I believe. For clubbing the general go to place for most is Instant but it can get a bit crowded or there is Morrison's 2. In all honesty, my days of clubbing are a bit behind, so I am not too deep into that scene these days :)
Hi! I will be going to Budapest next week, coming from Belgium! But I was wondering, are the exchange offices in Budapest reliable? Or do they charge an extra fee when you want to exchange euros?
Hey there! The exchange offices are reliable, those that are branded and part of major chains. Some will have a commission and some will just build the commission into their rates, but you can ask the staff if commission is counted separately or not and how much is it.
Hey there! Bolt is probably the most convenient. No need to pay directly to driver, the app on the phone takes the money from your card (if you have it added) and can easily use to hail a cab. Though if you come from the airport, there is a Főtaxi kiosk there which is perfectly fine to get to the city and your hotel, but from that point possibly Bolt is the best option 😊
Hey there! I would rather not as Beer Baths are - in my opinion - just an overpriced experience where quality doesn't align with the price. Also to note is that I feel that Beer Baths are more of a thing in Czechia or parts of Germany, at least I have seen more videos about those, and while Szechenyi Thermal Bath offers a "beer spa" its just drinking some beer for 45 minutes and you are soaked in hot water where they throw some beer ingredients into it like Hops and Yeast, but I don't believe for that price and short time there is any benefit... I would suggest enjoying the Thermal Baths and Drinking Beers should be kept separate 😊
@stuffedcabbageadventure Thank you very much brother for your valuable suggestion I really appreciate your help. Loved your channel .The way u explain is so easy to understand. In love with Budapest ❤ even before landing.cheers
If you check our channel, we have a few videos on the matter, like 2 videos about local beers for example, but also about sweets, food and many other recommendations 😄
Hello from a friend in Greece. Im going to come at 30th of December and return at 2nd on Jan. How about thiw period at Budapest? Is it like Christmas period or museums, bars and restaurants are open these days?
Hey there! January 1st is a public Holiday, then most things will be closed but on the other days everything will operate. On December 31st Eve most places will be very busy so it is recommended to book tables ahead. You'll also be able to catch the Christmas Market which will operate till January 1st :)
Szechenyi Baths website shows opening hours for Jan 1 from 10 am in the morning. Usually the others are also open on these days they may just open slightly later than usual :)
Hi. Please check this website for more information. www.volanbusz.hu/en/timetable/internatrional-services/buy-your-ticket/personally/nepliget-international-ticket-office#
Hey there, Csanytelek is a small village, closeby is a protected nature area of Pusztaszer, but Pusztaszer is also another village. So not sure where exactly you want to depart from, however I would advise to use google maps and use the directions it gives. You'll probably need to take a Bus to a larger town from where you can use the train to get to Budapest. 🙂
Hey there! It depends how much you wish to squeeze in, but for a first visit and seeing the most important places, you can get a lot out of 3.5 days, should be enough for an enjoyable time 😊
Hey there! No unfortunately it does not. However in all honesty, the view there isn't super different from below, you can look out from the glassless windows on the wall.
Hey there, if you wish to subscribe to a carrier, just visit one of the larger stores for Telekom, Vodafone or Yettel in the city center, I am sure they can help. Have friends on all carriers and no real complaints for any of them :)
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures thanks, but b4 reaching town, how? Will get 100E bus via BudapestGo, hope to hv great experience in Budapest starting tomorrow ☺️
Hey there! Sim cards should work, however I do not know what charges may apply to you specifically. If you need a sim (for cheaper data usage) you can get chargeable sims at one of the carriers' stores (like Telekom, Vodafone or Yettel) 😊
Hi there! There is no need to buy a travel pass if you are older than 65 years. This has been amended this year and everybody (irrespective of the country of origina) who is older than 65 can travel for free, only a valid photo ID needs to be presented to prove the age of the person when there is a ticket inspection 😊
For larger guest groups the places usually ask for a call to be made. Most of the restaurants in the center speak English, so if you wish to book (and for a group of 12 I believe you should), just give a call to the place you wish to visit 😊
Rudas Thermal baths and Dandár Baths have restrictions and children under 14 years old are not allowed. The rest do not have such restrictions, however please also note that I am not a health expert 😅, but Széchenyi for example has childrens pools, so perhaps taking young ones there is okay, although in my opinion they should not bath in the hot thermal pools with 32+ degrees water, only pools designated for children.
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Thank you for your answer. The normal temperature is 37 °C for a kid(it’s his normal body temperature). How hot are those bath’s? 😇
The temperatures for the pools varies, there are different kinds in each bathhouse. However the official websites show the following response to a related question: "The services of Dandár and Rudas Baths can not be used under 14 years. The water of the other baths is not recommended under the age of 14, either. In case parents insist to come with a baby, he/she can enter the pools only if toilet-trained." - Hope this helps 😊

Love you bro ❤❤ from india
Can you get into the parliment building as a senior on days when tickets are sold out
Hey there! Unfortunately they do not withhold tickets specifically for seniors for the sold out days, however each morning when they open they release some extra tickets to be purchased on the spot. So if you go there early you may be able to get tickets even if the online ticket website says they are sold out. I hope this helps 😊

Do womtgo to bars alone? I want to vita ruin bar! I may need to get a guide.
In the bars in the downtown like in the ruin bars, people are generally pretty chill, so people can go alone if they want to. Perhaps if someone is dressed in a very revealing way that may attract attention of some drunk guys, but I think that's unfortunately everywhere in the world.
Would you recommend an ebike paid tour?I think maybe not?
I personally don't go on tours but that doesnt mean they aren't a good way to explore a city. I see a lot of ebike tours and those "tourist-chopper" tours, and people seem to have fun with them :) However I think that walking tours are a bit better, more laid back, you don't need to pay attention to traffic and other pedestrians when going from A to B :)
Hello Akos, one query. what is the best sim card if you would recommend and should we buy it from airport or any grocery store in the city?
Hope weather will be good enough to enjoy the city.
hi! i wanna ask if it’s better to go around with our car or use public transportations. because we have kids, specially a toddler. 😊 thanks
I have a question
Whats the best place for parties or clubbing or even concerts in Budapest from 16th to 19th April ? Please guide
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Thank you very much for the information!
Since the Chain Bridge is closed, what's the best way to cross from Buda to Pest vice versa?
Well there are many other bridges in excellent condition 😉 but the best way will be using Google maps, it's right most of the time 😉
Chain bridge is already open for bus, taxi and bicycle anyway. So you can cross it using bus 16, 105, 178 and 216
If the service charge it’s included in the bill do you have to pay the full amount? It’s different in every country 😊
Hi there! Yes, if service charge is indicated and included in the final price on the bill it must be paid in full.
What taxi company do you recommend? I have disabilities and cannot walk everywhere all the time sadly.
Hi bro please suggest some cheap and good beer bath in Budapest
@stuffedcabbageadventure
Thank you very much brother for your valuable suggestion
I really appreciate your help.
Loved your channel .The way u explain is so easy to understand. In love with Budapest ❤ even before landing.cheers
Plz make a video about love local drinks, beers to try out
If you check our channel, we have a few videos on the matter, like 2 videos about local beers for example, but also about sweets, food and many other recommendations 😄
Thank you !! Another question... Thermal Baths are usually open January 1st?
Szechenyi Baths website shows opening hours for Jan 1 from 10 am in the morning. Usually the others are also open on these days they may just open slightly later than usual :)
Hi Bro ,Csanytelek Pusztaszeri To City Centre which Bus can i take p
lease let me know bro ....Thank You .
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Thanks bro.
Hello, im planning a budapest trip next week. Would 3.5 days be enough?
Hey there! It depends how much you wish to squeeze in, but for a first visit and seeing the most important places, you can get a lot out of 3.5 days, should be enough for an enjoyable time 😊
@@StuffedCabbageAdventuresthank you so much! It is my first time visiting and i am really excited!
does fisherman's bastion have elevator or lift
Hey there! No unfortunately it does not. However in all honesty, the view there isn't super different from below, you can look out from the glassless windows on the wall.
Does the Christmas market business’s take cash or card?
Last year the main markets took card, some of the stalls didn't even accept cash, only cards. 🎄🎅
How to get, subscribe good and affordable internet service in Budapest? As u mentioned using Google map.
Hi, what about taking indrive (Uber similar app), is this taxi shar8ng app reliable?
Hey there! Best alternative is Bolt which is the closest to Uber. Order via app and pay via app, no cash needed this way and more easily trackable 😊
Will I need a new SIM card for my phone? If so where do I get it?
Hey there! Sim cards should work, however I do not know what charges may apply to you specifically. If you need a sim (for cheaper data usage) you can get chargeable sims at one of the carriers' stores (like Telekom, Vodafone or Yettel) 😊
How do I buy/access a free travel pass for over 70s, please
Hi there! There is no need to buy a travel pass if you are older than 65 years. This has been amended this year and everybody (irrespective of the country of origina) who is older than 65 can travel for free, only a valid photo ID needs to be presented to prove the age of the person when there is a ticket inspection 😊
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures thank you will carry my passport
I need to make dinner Rsvn for 12persons; most restaurant does not have email for communication.
For larger guest groups the places usually ask for a call to be made. Most of the restaurants in the center speak English, so if you wish to book (and for a group of 12 I believe you should), just give a call to the place you wish to visit 😊
What about thermobaths and childeren(my 3 year old)? Can they go there?
I want to go for a job what need to do this I am from myanmar plase tell me ❤
Happy to hear that 🙂 however this channel may not be the best place for the kind of information you seek. Sorry.
if they have a service charge, im not goin theree..
