Hello. I've just returned from my trip to Budapest. Thank you so much for your tips. I feel that you helped me to take the most out of this beautiful city in the few days that I was there. Best wishes
It became so expensive nowadays. At New York, I paid EUR 26 for a cup of coffee and a dessert 2 months ago. But still all those signature Habsburg places arr so much better foodwise that alikes in Vienna. The city is the of the most beautiful in teh world.
I lived in Budapest for 3 years at the end of the 90's and it was absolutely fantastic. I had an apartment just of Vaci Ut at the Erzsebet Bridge end, just behind the Marriot. I cried like a baby on the plane when I left for the last time. I have such wonderful memories. I do re-visit every few years though, so have seen many changes over the years from the 90's. ( i.e. it's SO expensive now ).
I haven't been to Hungary for a very long time, but I know the country well and this is an excellent video. Knowing a few words of Hungarian goes down very well, and I think it's good he touched upon the issue of Hungarians being not very happy, I have noticed that while many Hungarians are very friendly and helpful there are others who are utterly cold and unfriendly, the country has a very high suicide rate. Also yes Budapest is an expensive place.
Greetings from Saskatoon, Canada, I am planning to visit Budapest June 2024, that is great information, thank you so much for sharing. Much appreciate!
I do have to say last year when I visited, was really surprised with vegetarian places, there is like while street 😮😍 & I stayed in VII district. Tomorrow I am coming again to Budapest🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hi Akos! Just came back from a lovely tour of your country last week. Thank you for your explanation about "Hungarian Mentality", or else i would be shocked to have experienced a seemingly "cold" service from some of the restaurants and shops we visited. I don't intend to demean but the gap seems obvious when compared to other countries like Japan where customer service seems top notch most of the time. had wonderful meals at Busulo Juhasz (means Sad Shepherd the waiter said?) and Csalánosi Csárda. spent only 3 days in Budapest and there's so much more to see. Would very much like to go back. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! :) Búsuló Juhász (yep, the Sad Shepherd :)) and Csalánosi Csárda are both well established old restaurants. While the food may be good, they are being ran in old ways which is why you'll surely experience the service being what I tried to explain in the video. Luckily we see more and more restaurants which are being managed by young enthusiastic people where the service will be more pleasant, but they usually aren't typical Hungarian restaurants, more like new wave or focusing on other cusines. Btw, service in Japan is indeed superb, not many places in the world can compete with that :D
Did u travel to other parts of Hungary, outside of Budapest? The map of Hungary is large, but all I can find out about Hungary is Budapest, and nothing else.
A great city, with beautiful people, and for its monoculture. I have been visited the country, the city capital more specifically, for the last couple of years and I am reminded how people are very welcoming, hospitable and friendly. They may seem to look pessimistic but on the whole, people do want to help you and guide you if you give them the opportunity. It also helps to say a few words in Hungarian and they gravitate to the effort you put in in some part, feel part of the local customs. There are some noticeable differences that I can see from afar: - You can see many mature or older Hungarian workers working in supermarkets/food grocery shops. In other parts of the world, this kind of work industry is dominated much more by younger workers. This industry is seen as only a stepping stone to more well-paid, or advanced job industries. I guess it is difficult due to age and how much can changing to another job can give you a better quality of life. - It quite strictly enforces ticket validation at public transportation stops. In other places, you have ticket officers, or police travelling on the transport to inspect everyone's valid ticket - They're very likely to help you, guide you, speak to you, assist you. In another story, someone contrasted their Hungarian experience to Germany whereby people are unlikely to go out of their way to help you as much. Hungarians are more easy-going. - It's not a society that's corporate or money driven. It doesn't want appear to be a clean or wealthy Scandinavian country. It has a lot of shopping malls. People have to get by with their livelihoods and life. They don't seem to aspire or desire materialistic goods to the detriment of themselves and their family and friends. - Mostly everyone lives in high-rise density apartment buildings. Some districts can offer a car park beneath the building. Some have outdoor balconies. Although living outside the city or regional towns or areas, people can experience single houses, it would be a sea change for the average Hungarian to experience a stand-alone house with car driveway to park their vehicle in front of their home with fencing.
Just came back from a Prague, Vienna and Budapest trip. My favorite was Budapest and hopefully one day I'll get to go back. Such a cool place with such a sad past.
Thank you so much for all your videos. I am traveling to Budapest at the first of December. I had many many questions and your answers were perfect. Thank you so much.
Hello, love your videos. Could you describe the precise boundaries of the Party area. My elderly friends just booked the Cortile Hotel Dessewffy Utca 14, district VI,M3. Will this be a problem?
Hey there! There are no exact boundaries but I would say your friends should be fine at that hotel. Towards Bajcsy-Zsilinszky road the subway is close and it's conveniently located. There are a few clubs on Nagymező street closeby, but that can be easily avoided by going the other way 😊
I live here as expat for 6 years - my Magyar husband kept telling me to stop looking at things with a British head 😂 my Polish roots explain perhaps why I love (most) Hungarians. I noticed some people think they are above the rules. For example, today, some woman sits in her car blocking the entire cycling path on my way back to Budafok from Nagytétényi- I’m like *csing csing*.. 5 minutes later I state it’s a cycling path and we can only pass (toddler in the back in a trailer) if she moves her car, otherwise we get hit by cars passing at 70(actually90) km/h on the other side. She’s like , nyugi mar, you can wait 5 minutes.😳 eventually I point out to her she can reverse just a touch and we pass successfully. Some people are prickly in the outside but I think like the cactus soft inside. It’s rubbed off me too- I’m not so British polite as I used to be- that gets you nowhere here 🤣 Honestly the stuff I experience sometimes is enough to write a comedy. My message to the younger Hungarians living in Budapest, try to make the best of what we have here and stop , please stop, comparing to other places which (Just like on Instagram) you see only best views but haven’t actually lived there yet. Btw this place is pretty safe, I don’t need to worry about a bomb going off somewhere … and you know how to party! So relax! 😜 Many expats like me living and earning the same as you here and we love it. I come from a good suburban area of London (not far from Kingston. Wimbledon) had a good career and still prefer quality of life here.
Thanks for sharing, I laughed out loud when I read "I'm like *csing csing*" :D Yeah, car culture in the city can result in such stories... especially when people have "the special license because they have car brand X" :D On the other hand, Happy to hear you enjoy living here :)
Great tourist selfies here! You really love to showing yourself! Welcome, and don t forget to film town here also, can bring nice memories when back home.
I love your videos and your energy Akos! You've (and your lovely wife) have shared great information and I'm SO excited about my upcoming trip to Budapest in 3 weeks! I've even been studying magyarul in Duolingo for the last two months so I know how to speak a little. Great work! Köszönöm szépen! SV-USA
Thank you so much! I hope when you are here you'll have a great time and have some delicious food and drinks! And it's super cool you put the effort into learning a bit of our language, I am sure many people will really appreciate that 😊
Thank you for this!! I just found out I’ll be moving to Budapest for work and am excited and a little nervous (mostly just worried I’ll be lonely), so am subscribing for all your tips and tricks!
Very good video - I saw some of your other videos too and liked them also. Good filming and sound. One thing I want to say is that Budapest is a vegan paradise for me! You must imagine that all foreigners who come to Budapest do not necessarily live in a capital city with lots of vegan restaurants and shops all over the place (as myself). According to the website HAPPY COW, there should at least be 32 restaurants which are 100 % vegan and if you ad veg options and vegetarian, it takes you up to around 230 places in Budapest, so that's not bad at all.
Thank you! I agree, from a different perspective the vegan/vegetarian scene isn't that bad in Budapest, its getting better and better, few years ago it was difficult to find good quality vegan places, now its more common. I was comparing it to western metropolises, but we aren't that far behind actually if I really look at it now :)
Thanks dude! Great video - first day in Budapest today and a lot of the points you've mentioned we can really relate to already! Visited the Ruin Bar in the party zone last night, enjoyed an Awesome band (The Juice), and the whole place was amazing! Glad to learn we can also get back to clinking our drinks! Cheers! ❤
I really want to visit Budapest one day. I just don’t want to travel to Italy just because my friend is telling me I should go with him. I’m not blown away with my friend’s honeymoon pictures.
I feel I should add that if you come to Budapest with €£$, the little exchange places in the centre have always been correct and decent in my experience over many years. So much the case that when I was travelling on to Prague I preferred to get a little Cz cash at Nyugati station rather than risk the dodgy Prague outlets.
Indeed, the only exchange place to be avoided is the ones at the Airport, those have terrible conversion rates. I also exchange my money in the city center before traveling abroad and never had an issue :)
Thanks for clearing up that whole urban legend about clinking glasses 🍻 I've seen a few articles now citing that as fact, so good to know otherwise ahead of my visit there next month. Köszönöm!
As a Canadian who has visited Budapest 3 times, this was really good. I went twice about 8 years ago and then last year, I didn't expect the prices to have gone up so much, especially as it seems the pay for locals hasn't gone up to match. So a lot of stuff seems like it only exists for tourists to afford.
Thank you for the great video. Where would you recommend to stay with kids? Preferably, a central area. Also, any must visit places for kids that the local love to take their kids to? Thank you!
Hey there! Budapest isn't that huge and public transport makes things smooth and easy but also a lot of things can be easily reached by walking :) So anywhere near Deák Ferenc tér which is like a transport hub with multiple subways, buses and trams crossing it would be a good spot. Regarding programs for kids, Margaret Island can be nice with the buggy-cycles to ride or when weather is good there is the Palatinus beach with pools and slides. Városliget city park has a large playground and there is the House of Music which is interactive and kids also enjoy that place. There is also a nice playground with slides next to Gellért hill. Or one very cool place is the Pinball museum, where you can play on many antique pinball and other arcade machines for hours (no coins needed, just an entry ticket and can stay there as much as you like :)) I hope these can give some ideas for you and your family :)
great vid ive been to Hungary in 2017 loved it and now coming again this year . looking forward to a good 10 days in Budapest and Szeged and and seeing my good friend again who is arranging everything
I bought an all day ticket and used a lot of public transport. My ticket was checked five times in one day. I don't mind being checked but the inspectors are pretty much everywhere. Previous day checked x3.
Yeah, especially this time of the year when more people are visiting the citiy, the most frequented stations in the city center are full of inspectors 🙄
Thanks for the clarification and the reassurances. I will be there in August. I agree about Starbucks . . . overpriced, burnt coffee. I am coming to Budapest to see Budapest, not stores and shops that are on every corner here in New York.
Hi,I'm going to visit Budapest for the first time this October. I can not decide where to stay. I have 2 choices :1. an apartment near Batthyany ter on Buda side and 2. an apartment near Deak Feranc ter on Pest side. I am a 65 years old solo traveler. I am not a party guy. I love to walk around and take pictures of places in the morning and at night . This trip may be the only time I visit Budapest ,so I would like this trip to be an impressive trip. To your experience, please kindly share your opinion on where I should pick to stay. Thank you very much .
Hey there! Perhaps if you are looking for some more peace, the apartment near Deák tér may be more ideal. The only downside is that you'll need to take the public transport each day to access the attractions on Pest side, but since Batthyány tér has a subway station, that should not be a major issue. Deák tér is close to the party district, it is lively during the night, which can be interesting even if someone doesn't like to party, but perhaps because of this the Buda side apartment may be a better place to rest 😊
@StuffedCabbageAdventures The apartment I mentioned that near Deak feranc ter is on Josef Nador ter . Is Josef Nador ter a good and safe area to stay ?
It's safe, it's further away from the party scene. It's a recently renovated square that's nice but also hasn't got much going on so not many reasons for party people to hang out there 😊
It is so true that the juxtaposition of old and new is what makes Budapest so charming ❤ . BTW, Lángos names like 'Meat Extravaganza' are always hilarious 😂 Nothing beats the OG Tejföl and sajt 🤤
Thank you for the info I will go to Budapest next month for businness trip. I have sinuses and very sensitif to heat. How is the weather and is it drug store easy to buy rhinitis medicine? Thank you
Hey there! Summers in Hungary tend to be hot. Not as bad as Spain or Turkey gets these days, but Climate change does not escape Budapest either, it can stay well above 30C for several days (like now), but it's mostly dry and not humid. Sometimes a few thunderstorms may occur and bring a bit of fresh air, but not for long. However the city can still be enjoyed in these circumstances. Regarding rhinities medicine, some medication is available over the counter and some require prescription, it depends on the contents, potency etc. You'll surely find something if needed, pharmacy staff can always help :)
Thanks for a great video. I'm currently visiting Budapest and i'm having a difficult time finding a Hungarian restaurant which is not overpriced. Im staying in the Nyugati area. Do you have any good recommendations for a nice Hungarian restaurant? Maybe i should take metro out of the city centre?
I would recommend Regős vendéglő. They have also lunch menus that you can choose a soup and main dish for a reasonable price. Or maybe Lecsó which is more like a bufet but you still get a nice meal for cheaper then a fancy restaurant.
Very good video! I regret I haven't seen it before visiting Budapest and paying a fine for not validated ticket besides of haveing 10 tickets in my wallet because validator wasn't working and didn't left the marks on the tickets 🤯🙆🤦
Hey! I have a question, sooooo i'm going to Budapest in February, and i saw that tourists need to pay an additional tourist tax. Do you have any video explaining it or can please explain how do we pay the hotel tax? Is there any additional taxes? Thank you! I'm also gonna check your other videos, i'm getting very excited for my trip!
Hey there! I believe you refer to the city tax that many european cities have on top of the regular hotel prices. This isn't a huge amount usually, dependent on the nr of nights stayed in a hotel, in Budapest I believe it's 1,5 Euro per night. These are sometimes paid separately at the hotels. There is no additional tax. Usually what we say as "tourist tax" is the practice of hiking of prices for goods and services targeted at tourists. We locals pay the same, just sarcastically say its priced high because of "tourist tax" 😅
We have been in Budapest recently and spent a long weekend there, I found everything different from your video, first of all everyone was able to speak English, even bus drivers, everyone was very nice, and lastly we found many many many vegan and vegetarian options in any restaurant and coffee shops that we went, even we found a total Vegan restaurant. Im happy that we didn’t rely on your information and we went there, such a beautiful city, nice people and culture and very nice food.
Really happy to hear you had a great time here! Though I have to clarify, I have never said in the video that you'll have trouble to communicate in English. It is really good that you had a positive experience with people, and didn't meet with some less friendly service, which unfortunately does exist. Regarding Vegan, my point is about tasting the local cuisine here may be a bit challenging since the dishes we have are meat heavy, but yes there are vegan restaurants and it's actually getting much better lately, which is a great news for our city 😊 all in all, what matters in the end is that you had a nice experience here 😊
Can you please make a detailed video on how to get to the July 2024 Formula 1 race from the city center. Please be as specific as possible and show everything you do in detail. Thank you!!!!
It may be a bit difficult to do upfront since there are always special service routes established for the GP which are not available throughout the year. The official website usually details these routes shortly before the GP Weekend, and is normally straightforward with special Buses connecting the Race Track with some major Train or Suburban Train Stops. But we'll see what we can do :)

SO expensive is a bloody understatment!

Love your videos! We're spending a month in Budapest in the spring and you've been an awesome resource for our planning.
Wow, a whole month? That's super cool and a lot of opportunities to visit places in the countryside :) Glad to hear you find the content useful :)
I’m so excited to go to Budapest already just by watching you…thank you so much for this
Thanks a lot for this video. Very helpful for my upcoming trip to Budapest ❤
By chance i found your channel...
Going in Budapest in the end of this month.....cant wait.....
Nagyon hasznos videó az idelátogató turistáknak!
Jó lenne ha minél többen látnák, hogy minél kevesebb "üröm kerüljön az örömükbe". 😀👍
Love your comments on the toppings and fillings of lángos and kürtőskalács 😆
Greetings from Saskatoon, Canada, I am planning to visit Budapest June 2024, that is great information, thank you so much for sharing. Much appreciate!
Thanks for tuning in from so far 😊 hope you'll have a good time when visiting Budapest 😊
Really useful tips! So useful it made the presenter very likable too!
What a beautiful city. I’ve just visited a few days ago.. It was amazing. ❤
There are some noticeable differences that I can see from afar:
- You can see many mature or older Hungarian workers working in supermarkets/food grocery shops.
In other places, you have ticket officers, or police travelling on the transport to inspect everyone's valid ticket
- They're very likely to help you, guide you, speak to you, assist you.
Happy to see that you had so much positive experience with the people. You made some interesting and detailed observations 😊
Just came back from a Prague, Vienna and Budapest trip. My favorite was Budapest and hopefully one day I'll get to go back. Such a cool place with such a sad past.
Glad to hear you had an excellent trip, all 3 cities are beautiful and offer so much fun :) Hope you'll get to return to Budapest one day! :)
I'm doing that same trip in few months
I went there in 2013 . It is wonderful
Thank you so much for all your videos. I am traveling to Budapest at the first of December. I had many many questions and your answers were perfect. Thank you so much.
Thank you for the kind message! Happy to hear you found answers in our videos, I hope your holiday here will be excellent! 😊

There are a few clubs on Nagymező street closeby, but that can be easily avoided by going the other way 😊
It would be amazing a video explaining how the city is organized in districts and some differences between them
Looking at you, I can say Budapest is definitely a good place...
Great, no smoking all over the place. very nice. It is time to visit Budapest

@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Thanks
Margaret Island is a must❤
I live here as expat for 6 years - my Magyar husband kept telling me to stop looking at things with a British head 😂 my Polish roots explain perhaps why I love (most) Hungarians. It’s rubbed off me too- I’m not so British polite as I used to be- that gets you nowhere here 🤣
Honestly the stuff I experience sometimes is enough to write a comedy.
So relax! 😜
Many expats like me living and earning the same as you here and we love it.
Glad to see you are back, was missing you from the comment section 🤣 thanks for the engagement 😊
I love your videos and your energy Akos! You've (and your lovely wife) have shared great information and I'm SO excited about my upcoming trip to Budapest in 3 weeks! I've already booked THREE "Free Walking Tours" and am staying at a great place in District 1. Can't wait to taste delicious Hungarian food and wine too.
Thank you for the support. Hope you will enjoy your life here in Budapest :)
Cheers! ❤
Thanks! Happy to hear that you are having a good time here 😊
Just back from Budapest, what a beautiful city.
This video was very useful!
Thank you! Happy to hear you enjoyed your stay here! :)
I really want to visit Budapest one day. I just don’t want to travel to Italy just because my friend is telling me I should go with him. I’m not blown away with my friend’s honeymoon pictures.
Wow, impressive video - well balanced and very well planned. Perfect before my visit to Budapest!
Thanks! I hope it was helpful and you'll have a great time in the city :)
Loved the vidéo, it is really helpful, I'm in budapest right now. And I'm loving it❤❤❤❤
Thanks, glad to hear you are having a good time here 😊
Nice video, coming back to Budapest next year, cant wait, its a very nice city
If you ever visit Budapest you must try Krumplis Langos by Vaci Street because they put a potato to Lángos just like a grandmas
We will be visiting next year and this is the realest video I have seen on travel. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for doing this.
Thanks! I hope you'll have a great time here when you visit and we can give some nice inspiration for your planning with our other videos :)
Thanks for clearing up that whole urban legend about clinking glasses 🍻 I've seen a few articles now citing that as fact, so good to know otherwise ahead of my visit there next month. Köszönöm!
Hehhe, glad to help 😊 I hope you'll enjoy your time here when you arrive 😊
As a Canadian who has visited Budapest 3 times, this was really good. I went twice about 8 years ago and then last year, I didn't expect the prices to have gone up so much, especially as it seems the pay for locals hasn't gone up to match. So a lot of stuff seems like it only exists for tourists to afford.
This was one of the most informational video I have seen in a while. I don't need to research anything else. Wow I'm subscribing. Thank you
Been there, what a wonderful city it is!
Thank you very much ! We will be there March 22. Any thermal baths you recommend to go with kids ?
Thank you! fortunately I came across your channel before the trip, your videos were very helpful thank you!!

Watching a travel guide video about Budapest while living in Budapest👌👌👌
A good guide! Thanks for the info! Really helpful!
I’m living in Kyiv and i’d like to mention that people in Budapest seemed to me very nice and polite
Really happy to hear that you had a met the nice and friendly countrymen of mine 😊
Been in your beautiful town 13en times. I'll be there in february for the 14en times. I agree with your video A LOT! Great job!

Thank you very much .
@StuffedCabbageAdventures
The apartment I mentioned that near Deak feranc ter is on Josef Nador ter .
Is Josef Nador ter a good and safe area to stay ?
It's safe, it's further away from the party scene. It's a recently renovated square that's nice but also hasn't got much going on so not many reasons for party people to hang out there 😊

Thanks man this is really helpful, truth is always attraction. I’m coming there.

Thanks for the tips! I'm going to be there to celebrate New Years Eve this year, can't wait!
Thanks! I hope you'll have an excellent time when the city Celebrates the New Year 😊🎆
Thanks for a great video.

Great tips and you nailed the pacing. Looking forward to my visit!
Regarding Vegan, my point is about tasting the local cuisine here may be a bit challenging since the dishes we have are meat heavy, but yes there are vegan restaurants and it's actually getting much better lately, which is a great news for our city 😊 all in all, what matters in the end is that you had a nice experience here 😊
This video really helped me !! Keep up the good work !!
Awesome video. Thank you for all of the helpful tips and information.
A very useful video with practical information.
