Returned from 7 magical days in Budapest. By watching your amazing videos prior to our trip we were able to plan our holiday and make a list of things we wanted to see and do. What an amazing city full of stunning architecture and beautiful scenery plus a public transport system to be proud of. Thank you for taking time to make and post these videos packed with advice and tips, we got so much more out of our holiday by watching them. Keep up the good work.
It makes us really happy to hear that you had a really good time here! These are the kind of messages that reassure us to continue what we do, Thank you 😊
Just returend 8 days in Budapest. We watching also your videos and we used a lot of your suggestions and tips. We had a wonderfull week en the food was brilliant!! The many good restaurants in your video's and listing where very helpfull and spot on. Many thanks we had a beautiful trip thanks to your posts!!
If you want to spend time by the water, I suggest giving up the popular Széchenyi Fürdő and choosing Palatinus Strand on Margaret Island which is not far from the center. It's cheaper and, above all, less touristy and more local. There are several pools, with different water temperatures, and plenty of grassy space to put a blanket or towel. There are also plenty of sunbeds which are free. If you see one available, just take it. If you're with kids, there are some nice slides also. Food is reasonably priced and tasty.
We literally went to Palatinus this weekend 😀 It is indeed a really nice place. There may be nothing fancy, but the water is nice, there is food, there's even thermal pools, and the slides and all of that for a fraction of the price of the famous baths. So yeah, it is a great alternative if someone doesnt want anything pretty, just chill in the water 😊
Thankyouuu for your videos.. last month, i got incridible memories in Budapest for 2 weeks! And your videos help me as first timer going to Budapest!❤ especially for public trasportation tips.
Your channel you have existed years ago. I lived in Budapest 2016-2018 and info about travelling in Hungary in English was very scarce! Good that I did enjoy different cities and towns there but with not much awareness of places and how to travel around. Hungary is such a magically beautiful country with kind people that I really miss dearly. Keep filming and I will keep enjoying your videos until the day I can get back :)) PS. I would appreciate it if you film places around Nyugati as I lived there (Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út ) with not much awareness as well.
Hey there! Thank you so much for the encouraging words 😊 Regarding the Nyugati area, now that the train station has been renovated, we may cover that area in a future video eventually 😀
You're exactly the guy I tried to find :D Gonna visit a few cities from next Monday and Budapest is my first station for three days. Looking forward to it, thanks for your content!

Hi! Thank you for discussing my question!!! :) I do want to add that it is better to not exchange money in the Budapest Keleti train station, as the commission is quite high (you would only get 350 HUF for 1 euro). But we went to a Ria exhange office in the city center and they offered a very good exchange rate! We really fell in love with Budapest and are going back next Monday for 6 days!
It would be GREAT to have a video about getting medical tests (blood tests, like allergy, thyroid, etc) done in Budapest for tourists. I am from the USA and will be utilizing one of the labs to get some tests done that my American health insurance won’t cover. The results will come back very quickly - and the lab said that they can also email them to me (in English). Just a suggestion for a future video - I’m sure that there is a lot of folks that would LOVE to learn more about the options, what labs have English speaking employees available, the costs, etc.
It’s good to know that you can pay virtually everywhere using your bank debit card in Hungary, and especially in Budapest. So there is little need for having cash on you. I usually draw some 1000 forint notes from a cash machine (always at a bank) and they will last my entire stay. Ákos, I have tried the Örség Zöld Aranya after watching your video about desserts. It was amazing! It’s my new favorite next to the classic Eszterházy cake.
Glad to hear you liked the Őrség Zöld Aranya! It needs more attention as it's delicious! I actually had one yesterday at Művész Café and it was yumyum 😊
Hey, i don’t know about other banks but mine charges a conversion fee of 1-2 Euros per transaction… so i try to only use my card for purchases above 50 euros and have cash for coffee or other small purchases.

Hi. Thank you. Another great informative video. My son loves football and we like to visit football stadiums. Does Puskas Stadium do football stadium tours?
Hey there! Stadium tours aren't really a thing here, and in case of Puskás Arena, tours occur here and there in case there is some sort of related event, but I couldn't find a regular occurring tour. The top division soccer is starting this weekend, so perhaps going to a soccer match may be a good alternative. Usually Ferencváros or Újpest matches have good vibes thanks to the dedicated fan bases 😊⚽
Hey there! I Personally do not have experience with cooking classes (I'm not a great talent in the kitchen unfortunately :D) But I heard that Budapest Makery is a nice experience (although its about a fun time and not really about learning). But I've seen some recommendations for Foodapest's cooking class as well 😊

We are in Budapest now and your videos are VERY helpful - and FUN! Thanks! We got the Budapest Go app on each of our phones and the 30 days passes. Today I was watching people get on the bus - we haven't needed it yet ourselves - and I saw MANY people get on and not tap the outside of the bus with theri phone or validate a ticket when they got on. Actually, I only saw one person tap before boarding and I think they were a tourist like us. What's happening? Is it anything to do with St. Stephen's Day coming up? We're very confused and any clarification you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Hey there! There are paper based passes so those who have those will not tap or read qr codes. If the vehicle is front boarding only is when you need to show the ticket or pass to the driver. Sometimes the drivers don't really check, but believe me, when the inspectors board the bus, those who forgot to validate start to sweat 😁
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Thanks for the quick reply! While I was only seeing it from the outside, I don't think I saw anyone validate a ticket when they got on.
Foreign exchange: I would like to add that at some places, like airports and train stations the exchange rate is much worse than in the city. The best thing is to look at the difference between the buy and sell rate, if it is more than 5%, avoid it. For Euros and USDs often the buy/sell spread is only 2%. Avoid ATMs which are not bank owned, like Euronet, which often charge well over 10%, some people have even claimed 20% fee. Even if your bank claims that you can use your card overseas without any charge, it does not apply to these ATMs.
Greetings from Chattanooga TN. USA. We will be in Budapest in a few weeks and heard in your video that public transportations are Free of Charge for 65+ (seniors). Does that include the bus Line 100E from the airport to city central? Also, do you gives tours of your beautiful city?
Hey there! Yes 😊, according to the BKK website for the 100E Bus: "Customers entitled to free local public transport based on age or health condition can travel without a ticket on this bus service as well." - Regarding Tours at this stage we do not do tours, but thanks for asking 😀
Great info! I'm heading to Budapest in October with my dad who's 66. Does he need some sort of Senior pass to show the drivers to prove he is 65 or older?
Hello from the US! I am arriving in Budapest on a river cruise August 23rd, (how hot will it be?!) and have about a day and a half to explore, what would you suggest being the must-see places in that short amount of time? Also, we were planning on going to the Sparty on Saturday night, you should meet us there! We are three travel agents and gathering information to pass on to our clients, I will share your channel with them. Are we saying Budapest incorrectly by saying PEST instead of how you pronounce it with a PESHT at the end? I want to use the name properly. Love your channel and information, happy to share it! Amy
Hey there! Its difficult to say how hot it will be then, could be somewhere between 28-35 as it stands now and how it trends 😊 If you have limited time, I would say you should try to visit the Castle District (Palace building, get views of the danube river, visit the Matthiash Church and Fishermans Bastion), and also visit the downtown area with the Parliament building and the St Stephens Basilica. I have heard some ups and downs about the sparty in the Szechenyi Thermal bath, but I hope you'll have a good time there :) When pronouncing Budapest it's okay to pronounce in the english way as Pest, but if you show effort with the hungarian pronounciation of peSHt it will be appreciated (in hungary the "s" is pronounced SH and "sz" is pronounces S 😊) I hope you'll make some great memories here and can pass those to your clients in the end! Happy if you recommended our channel to them too 😊
Great info. Thanks. Just a couple of questions: 1. Do you have a list of MUST HAVE apps to install on mobile phones for Budapest visitors? 2. Are there phone snatching robberies in Budapest as in many other tourist places?
Hey there! Was actually thinking about making a video eventually about useful apps 😊 Budapest Go is absolultey a must as its easy to plan your travels and get digital tickets/passes. I always recommend to have Google Translate app especially the picture translation feature. Happy cow app is useful for those who are looking for vegetarian/vegan places. Regarding Phone snatching, it's not really common, but it's not 0 in occurance either. If you are generally mindful of your surroundings especially in crowded areas, you'll be fine 😊
@@LTinSoCal Bolt and Uber are the same here, but Uber is different vs USA Uber (but the app still works). Passenger Carrying like what Taxis do is regulated, so it's not a ride share. Hi Akos. Greeting from Ireland. Very informative videos that are helping me plan my upcoming Budapest trip. A 100E Bus question-At the airport, can you purchase a return ticket for this service or are only single tickets available? I checked the official BKK website and it said only single journey tickets are available. Then I checked various blogs/TH-cam videos, etc. and was told I should buy a return 100E bus ticket to save money. I am inclined to believe the official website assuming the website content is up to date. Any advice would be welcome. John, Ireland
Hey there! There is no such thing as a return ticket. These do not run out as they are not bound to a specific departure time, neither are their cheaper bundle tickets for this. The only way to save money is to take the regular public transport (200E) to Kőbánya Kispest Subway station and take the subway from there to the city center, thats two single tickets (2x450=900 HUF). Thats a way to save money, travel time will be longer. 😊
Love your content. I fell in love with Hungary my first trip 30 years ago. I really appreciate finding out that I can ride the Budapest transportation for free since I am over 65. Does this also apply to the suburban trains (HÉV), or perhaps the MAV trains? I am not a EU citizen. 😞
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Wow!!! So, all transportation, anywhere and everywhere in the country, is free to those 65 and older? (OK, probably not the 100E bus, of course.)
@@fwraber Indeed, and whats also very fun is that this also applies to 100E Bus 😀It's stated on the official websites page for the 100E Bus. Regarding domestic trains one thing to note is that there are some trains that require a seat to be registered (mostly high speed intercity ones). That if I understand correctly is also free but a ticket must be collected for the seats.
Super great info. Very interested about the free transportation for being over 65. I will look into that. Wondering if you have to get a pass when you arrive, so you can show it when using any of the transportation. Looking forward to our visit.
When I boarded trolleybuses and buses in Budapest, I was terribly concerned about scanning the QR code. In fact, drivers don't even look at it. Actually, I don't really know if they need to be scanned, because no one else has done it except me. 🙈
Oh they do check, perhaps not all times, if you show a moving image towards them it may be enough :D But once I showed a black screen as the phone went to sleep during my time of queueing up and the driver did ask me to show the phone with the picture. So they do check them at times 😊
Hey there! Not really, there isn't really a lot of difference, sometimes the rates are better here and another day they are better over there at another one. As noted in the video, just walk around and go for ones that face streets and are part of some franchise.
Hi, thanks first of all for your videos, I saw a lot of them and I find very useful; I am going to visit Budapest with my friends for 3 days and I have question about public transports: how does it work the Monthly Budapest-pass for students (available for EU citizens)? I add that we are undergraduate students and I see that this pass is cheaper than 72h travel card, also, is it possible to make in the airport? Thanks in advance
Hey there! Regarding Student Pass for EU and EEA member states the website of the Public transport company states the following: Accepted Documents: "...Student ID Issued by the relevant state in Paper or card format, international student ID (Except for the type combined with a bankcard)". If you have such a document you'll need to present that along with the pass upon inspection. You can buy these are the airport via vending machines or I believe they are also available on the Budapest Go app 😊 I hope this helps!
Thanks for the useful info. , i have one question please , If i buy the 15 days budapest pass (physical one of the machine) , shall i validate it each time i ride ? I suppose that the pass will have my ID also the date of expiration ?
Hey there, as it is highlighted in the video the validity period starts from the time you set when you purchase the pass 😊 There will be a smaller date text which is the starting date, and the validity end date will be the larger text. No need to validate them like single tickets on each ride, just need to show the pass upon inspection 😊
Thanks , one more question the monthly pass if it is on mobile need to scan before the ride or it is ok to show the screen-shot of the ticket on mobile n@@StuffedCabbageAdventures
IMPORTANT! Hungary uses 220V while the US 110V! If you buy one of those cheaper travel adapters, make sure your electronics are rated for both 110V/220V, otherwise you'll need an adapter/power strip that converts the electricity

Здравейте! Или само с кредитна карта. Благодаря ви, с интерес и удоволствие следвам канала ви. Поздрави!
Hey there! Regarding public transport above age of 65, its 😊enough to show a Photo ID that also has the birth date, like a passport for example The water is very safe to drink, there are even drinking fountains across the city. 😀 Credits cards and Debits cards are all accepted in almost all the places in the city. A special Pensioners Pass ID needs to be issued by the Public Transport company and the Pensioner Monthly pass can be purchased with that and the pass costs 3,330 HUF. That said, people of ages 65 and above can travel free on the Budapest Public transport, irrespective of their country of origin.

Love your content. I fell in love with Hungary my first trip 30 years ago. I really appreciate finding out that I can ride the Budapest transportation for free since I am over 65. Does this also apply to the suburban trains (HÉV), or perhaps the MAV trains? I am not a EU citizen. 😞
Hey there! That was also a recent change this year and yes, you can also use Máv trains and Volánbusz buses, irrespective of nationality 😊
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Thanks!!!
Super great info. Very interested about the free transportation for being over 65. I will look into that. Wondering if you have to get a pass when you arrive, so you can show it when using any of the transportation. Looking forward to our visit.
Hey there! For those who are over 65 an ID with a photo and the date of birth is enough to show, like a passport for example :)
Can you recommend best money exchange bureaus in Budapest
@@StuffedCabbageAdventuresPerfect, thank you, keep going with the channel
hi stuffed cabbage, are u able to buy the 15 day travel card from the airport?
Hey there! There are same vending machines at the airport than what you find in the city, so yes you can buy the same set of tickets and passes 😊
Thanks for Highlighting this! 😊
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Köszönet neked ezekért a videókért. Igy sokkal egyszerűbb felkészíteni a feleségemet (nem beszél/ért magyarul) a jövő heti utunkra. Na meg azért én is tanulok egy-kettőt mert már régen nem voltam otthon.
Are there more quiet bars for the over 40 crowd?
Hey there! There are some more laid back bars, especially Wine bars. I enjoy Wine Not? Bar for example. There is a place called Csendes, which literally means quiet, although it's not really quiet but more laid back thank regular bars 😉 in all honesty, it's easier to find more quiet bars outside of the Party area in the 7th district.
Can I go to Croatia from Hungary and come back to Hungary without needing visa/border check ?
Hey there! While at the moment as I know there is no border control between Hungary and Croatia this doesn't mean it cannot change as it sometimes does...Nevertheless, always cross borders with having papers and documents in check. 😊
Szia Ákos & Töltött káposzta Adventures: Tudtok válaszolni erre a trükkös kérdésre!
Hey there! Regarding public transport above age of 65, its 😊enough to show a Photo ID that also has the birth date, like a passport for example
The water is very safe to drink, there are even drinking fountains across the city. 😀
Credits cards and Debits cards are all accepted in almost all the places in the city. Public toilets may need cash (coins) or the Labyrinth Cave in Buda castle for example.
I hope you'll have a good time here when you visit 😊
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Сърдечно ви благодаря за отговорите, които ще бъдат полезни и за другите туристи. С удоволствие ще следя канала ви и ще го препоръчвам. Поздрави!🤗
I will add one more ticket-related question :) Are students older than 26 years old still allowed to use discounted passes? Thanks!
Hey there! Students that can show proof of them being enrolled in an institution can buy and use the student pass 😊 age does not matter in this case 😎
In Karavan they gave me tokens but they gave me back the money at the end
That's good to hear cause this whole thing has been kinda controversial among locals, so it's nice if some places are returning money in the end now.
How much does a monthly ticket for public transport in Budapest cost for foreign pensioners?
Hey there! As I understand the pensioner pass can only be purchased by those who receive Pension from the Hungarian Authorities. A special Pensioners Pass ID needs to be issued by the Public Transport company and the Pensioner Monthly pass can be purchased with that and the pass costs 3,330 HUF. That said, people of ages 65 and above can travel free on the Budapest Public transport, irrespective of their country of origin.
Can you use a driving license to prove you are over 65?
Thank you very much
Do people 65 and older can use public transportation for free? If you what kind of document can you use to verify your age?
Yes, they can use for free. Use just need to have an Identification document with you at all times. We have a seperate Video just regarding transportation in Budapest, maybe check that out as well to :)
Can you tell me if budapest is good for someone who is Gluten Free?
Yes, most restaurants offer gluteen free options and we even have some dedicated Restaurants focusing on gluteen free food. For example: Kata Restaurant or Bohémtanya. But if you wite in google maps glutenfree restuarant you will see other options as well :)
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures great thank you , love your videos, keep them coming
Hello! Does anyone know if it s possible to get discounted bus passes for students, if i am a student in the EU??
Hey there! As per the current discount information on the public transport company's website, Students from an EU country can get the discounted pass, you need a valid student ID with you (but it cannot be a student ID that's also a bank card).
Are there lare shopping mall that local Hungarina use not the visitors
There are some shopping mals outside of the city center, but those have the mostly the same stores as the ones close to the center. For example Pólus, Duna Plaza and Etele Plaza
Hi i will be visiting Budapest on 25th of January 2025 is the baths still open at this time of year and what app would you recommend for excursions getyourguide or viator
Hi David, yes baths will be open on January 25th it is not a public holiday. In al honesty I am not a fan of viator, never used it but have read some less then stellar opinions about it. GetYourGuide I only used for the Buda Castle Cave tour and it worked fine, some businesses I know also use that.
