- In this video you will see the preparation and work required to remove the Harmonic Balancer & Timing Chain Cover on a 5.7L 350cid V8 Engine on a C3 Corvette. It's all part of the restoration of this car and clearly shows the process and steps that you can take to do this work yourself. There have been many steps needed to get access to the Harmonic Balancer and Timing Cover, but once there, the process is straight forward. I hope you all find this video useful in your projects, or just for general information about how these classic engines are put together. All part are stock and original from the mid 1970's, so its time to swap them out with new parts.

I leave the radiator in and am just carful.

Hello, awesome work, I love your videos. Do you maybe know the bolt thread pattern, size, pitch you used for the harmonic balancer puller? I live in EU and I have to buy those imperial ones in specialised store because we only have metric over here. It would be a great help, thanks.

Why EXACTLY do you zero the harmonic balancer before pulling it? That part is keyed to the crank! I
I take it, this job would be a lot harder with the hood installed?
I think so. I had so many things to do including the radiator replacement and core support that I pretty much had to remove the hood. Thanks for watching and sending in a comment!
Hey just trying to take timing pulley off but when ever I try to unscrew center bolt it turns the harmonic balancer taking it off top dead center. How do I stop harmonic balancer from spinning as well? Do I need an impact?
You should be able to just rotate the balancer back to its original position as it should still be connected to your crankshaft. I was able to rotate the HB easily without needing the leverage of the pulleys.
What tool are you using

Love the video, a tip for you in the future… the harmonic balance polar comes with an insert one tapered, and one flat, so the end of your polar shaft doesn’t wander while you’re using your impact. I kept waiting for you to install it when you were putting it on the crank.
