I did this and it worked. My spin rate was 4000 or more. After installing the DIY cardboard and practicing the straight takeaway i got it down to under 3000. It takes practice but this really did work for me.
Even faster and cheaper is to use a Post-It note. Draw a diagonal line from one corner to the opposite. Stick the Post-It note on the shaft so the left edge points straight down the shaft and your diagonal line is at a 45 deg angle. You can hit balls with it and it doesn’t fall off. Thank you!!!
This is great. The same training results can be achieved by striping or using an alignment stick on the ground at a roughly 45 degree angle to the target line at the trail foot. Use your core to get the club shaft pointed directly over that line. Over and over.
Just made one for myself in 20-30 minutes using a frozen lasagna box, hahaha. Great video and thanks for making it. I'm poor and can't afford to drop money on all these golf gadgets, so this was great for me. Also, by the way, I used 3 flat neodymium disc magnets (1/2" diameter) to hold it to the shaft (steel shafts) instead of velcro. Works like a charm! Thanks again! I subscribed.
Awesome video brother. And thanks for sharing about this device. I appreciate your help and humor. You had me rolling on how this would fix everything. 😂 😂 🤙🏾🤙🏾
This is excellent, already made mine.! The fact that Leadbetter is charging $75 for that tiny simple contraption is ridiculous. And you can see the videos on his site for free on how to use this with different drills. Don't spend the money.!
I am excited to try it. I am trying to change my swing to be like the straight-away tech before I saw their ad. Was considering buying it. Now I get to try it for free GREAT thanks.
Made one by cutting a triangle out of piece of light wood. You can accomplish the same thing by keeping the leading edge of the club perpendicular to the line of flight.
Thanks for the plans and explanation of the device. Not an expert like David Leadbetter but it seems strange that this amount of club travel could have a big impact - but maybe good as a refresher/check of the move away.
Awesome, man!! Colleague of mine bought the real thing. I just made your copy and it looks and works just great. Can't wait to show him your home bulit version for ZERO bucks 😁😁😁
Genius! ... I made one but have not tried it yet. Also see you have a prototype plastic one (I couldn't make sense of the file ... bummer) but I'll try out my/your cardboard straight-away at the driving range tomorrow. Thanks! BTW ... I used a Cheerios box (LOL)
The file is a .STL ( files used for 3d printing). Others have successfully opened it and used it. Maybe you need the right program to open it. Thanks for the support.
Another excellent take away check is the take your stance. Place an alignment rod touching your left heel and your right toe (for a right handed golfer). When you get your hands at your right hip and parallel to the ground, the club shaft should be parallel to the alignment rod. Your clubhead will be outside your hands at this point and on plane.
Good idea. An important feature everyone misses is not just the 45 degree angle from the shaft but the 45 degree angle of the plane that the arrow is on to the triangle. This ensures the correct amount of hinge and face orientation. I have a video coming out with a 3d printed version so stay tuned.
i made one with a piece of #4 solid wire and taped it to the shaft and red tape on the wire so i could see it better. not sure it will help my swing action yet.
For people who want a slightly more authentic version of this, there are lots of options for 3D printing as well. Might be 2-3x the price of cardboard but would probably still win the price/performance challenge...
Everyone keeps saying that but they don’t realize the importance of the angles on the top of the device. It’s not just 45 degree and to the sheet that matters.
DL calls the takeaway the moveaway. If you don't call it that it won't work. A simple omission but one that will make all the difference to your swing,
You indicated 2.75 inches for the vertical lines of the triangle. You did not indicate the length of the horizontal line of the triangle so not knowing the length makes the drawing impossible to accurately produce. Unless I am wrong. I could be wrong!!
The equal sides of the triangle are both 2.75 inches. As they form a right angle you don’t need the length of the long side although you could use the Pythagoras theorem. Hope that helps. If not try to be more specific so I can elaborate. Thanks.
It aids in the takeaway, which for many people is one of the most crucial parts of the swing. It teaches you not to roll your wrist on the takeaway…which is a HUGE swing killer.

Wow, thank you for this. Excellent golf training aid for a fraction of the coast.

Thanks for the support. There a few other homemade training aid videos on my channel if you like this one. Hope it improves your game!
I tape a bendable straw to the shaft. Then bend it at a 45 degree angle. Works great!
The mad scientist strikes again! Great job.
Thanks!
I did your MIM one the weight one. It worked amazing I’m looking forward to this

Loved it. I'll call you when the zombie apocalypse hits. Your resourcefulness will be invaluable!!!
I drew a 45 degree line with a sharpie across the grip closest to the club head. Works really well and can be used on actual shots.

I also made a video with a 3d printed one.
As a Mechanical Engineer I commend you!

Kind words! Hope it helps you out.

3D printed one of these using your dimensions with a half tube to fit over the shaft and neodymium magnets. Thanks.
NICE!!
Thank you for cutting through the b.s.

Very cool and smart
made it last month, I went from a 12 HC to a 2 in just 45 days... :)
Nobody believes that...😂
Fantastic I love what u did just made one 👍 😊
Cool man thanks.
Sweet Jesus! If I had only seen this BEFORE I wasn’t all that money. Brilliant!
brilliant work as always … I'm betting that getting better with it depends on what type of cereal you like! ;)
Thank you MG
Awesome video! Very useful and easy to follow. Thank you very much for saving me some ca$h!
Question.. should I use Cheerios or would Frosted Mini Wheats box be okay? 😂
😂😂
I'm downloading this video before Leadbetter takes it offline.😀
Stencil a speed square, cut it out. Make slots on the bottom for three Velcro straps to wrap and attach to the shaft and boom
Forgot to mention use balsam wood

@@diminishedreturn I made a video about that with a link to a file to print one.

@@migmatisgolf Lay the speed square on the ground on your toe line marker
How about working on a True Turn Pro for your followers. Thanks
I’ll add it to the list!
Is the STL file missing?
never mind, found it, Thanks!
All I need to know is how do I get a refund?
😂😂😂
Still have no response on how to send my paper weight back.
What I am trying to figure out is how far down the shaft should the indicator be installed?
If you look at the leadbetter infomercials it sits about 1 to 2 inches below the grip.
Thought he said right below grip (Leadbetter)?
Square up the club and use a magic marker on some blue tape
Great news guys… they sell this on Ali express for $18

He actually calls it the “Tour Takeaway”.

Stephen, you must've skipped geometry class back in highschool? Lol
That's not all I missed
You should do a Donald Trump impersonation
DIY model or real thing does nothing to ais the swing. Ok, match the line. Now what? LOL

I’d rather pay $75 for yours than Leadbetters over engineered one 😆🫡
