MIGMATIS GOLF is a fun and informative golf channel covering useful tips, training aids and reading material for the point of view of a mid handicapper with the occasional help of a pro. FIX YOUR RELEASE WITH A ZIP TIE
I have been fixing my flip release for a few months and have purchased a couple of training aids to help but I wanted to come up with something simple and cheap but effective. I think I have achieved that with a simple zip tie.

The PRO SENDR IS A VERY POPULAR AND EFFECTIVE TRAINING AID BUT IS VERY EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT IT IS. IN THIS SERIES I NORMALLY SHOW YOU HOW TO BUILD A CHEAPER VERSION OF A CERTAIN TRAINING AID BUT IN THIS CASE A CHEAPER ONE ALREADY EXISTS SO IT WASNT WORTH THE EFFORT. CHECK OUT THIS CHEAPER VERSION.
WORKING ON A BETTER PIVOT

Here I am trying to rely less on my arm lift to get the club to the top and more on my torso rotation. A lack of rotation will cause the arms to keep traveling to get the club to the top of the backswing . This will cause poor sequencing on the way down.

Great idea! Thanks!

MiG mad scientist! This is genius level work.
great little twist! Keep up posting good content
Amazing … you always bring the best ideas that everyone can find helpful.
Super interesting. May I ask what material did you use (it looks hard, so I assume ABS or PLA). Is there a risk on graphite shafts that it could damage the paint? I thought materials like PETG or TPU could alleviate that concern. Appreciate your take on this.
@@alainsimeon3196 I believe it is PLA. It’s pretty smooth on the inside so no real risk of damage to the paint.
Can you do the putting board? th-cam.com/video/LdBZBkTAeHs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=J1Ds-tjL1vDQXP3H
Very similar to the 4 Magic Moves in one of your videos. It is a game changers.
I have the same one. And agree the wrist moulding isnt so comfortable, esp if you have large wrists it wont fit you. Apart from this, i think it serves the purpose. The original should never cost what they are charging!
I ordered a generic one on Amazon and it never showed up. I just sent in a request for a refund. It was supposedly sent by a 3rd party delivery company. No picture evidence like Amazon always does. I won't do this again. Hope I get a refund. It was $25.
Well that sucks. Mine came no problem. Maybe try a different vendor? Here is the one I used although I see they have increased the price a bit. a.co/d/czEJY8C
Any good? Does it do the same job?
Practically the same. Works great.
I got one, its great. ball is a bit soft i thought compared to the real thing wonder if it can be stiffened up a bit.
So I generally love your approach to making training aids in a diy way as golf in general is way too expensive to play and learn ( 30 year teaching pro here) That having been said, you have to think about what incentive is there for a golf company or golf entrepreneur to develop and patent and spend a lot on money developing a training aid like the pro sender owners and inventors have IF what ever has been created can be ripped off in China ( who don't respect any intellectual rights or patents or trademarks) inside a week ( like knock off drivers for example or in this case the Prosendr) ) and then sell it directly to you on Alibaba or Temu or Amazon ( shipped directly to you through no middle man avoiding legal checks and balances ) . Yes you've saved money, but the inventor has been completely ripped off … I mean why bother creating it and helping golfers in the first place? … just my two cents
I agree, but on the other hand if they priced the original aids more realistically I think people would buy them in preference to knock-offs. There are some stupidly overpriced aids out there which it’s hard to see anyone buying.
What was that ??
What does the gem even do? So many TH-camrs all have a different explanation
Basically puts the clubface in a roughly good position throughout the swing. Great for beginner golfers.non training aid is ever the magic bullet but this one is great for clubface awareness.
Your version , changed the way i swing, best training aid ive used for feeling the release
I can’t print the STL can’t even find the STL even with all your emails and instagrams links I come up empty
For some reason I can’t download the STL file for printing. Help!?!?
Send your email address to migmatisgolf@gmail.com and I’ll try to send the file to you. I just tried to download it again and it worked so I’m not sure what the issue is.
For whatever reason I cannot print or even get the STL file so I can have somebody make one of these for me. Help anyone!?!?
You've got to be pretty hardcore to buy some of the training aids out there, the prices are insane. Im in the process of making a 'prosendr' using a football shin pad and a heat gun. Cost less than £10. Keep up the good work.
Interesting. I am also working on a pro sendr with PVC. Training aids for golf are a rip off. Thanks for the comment.
Can't wait to see it.
I’d be careful with the acetone when you were cleaning the paint residue off the shaft, it might penetrate and soften the epoxy matrix of the shaft if you use too much. Something like isopropanol might be a safer choice. Just a thought. (Obviously no problem with acetone on the ferrule).
Point taken. Thanks.
Lol I love it. Liie a mad scientist 😂
I've been living in a cave, never heard of it! Might give it a go. Any thoughts on the prosendr training aid? Seems to be all the rage.
I think the pro sender is good. Have been working on a built yourself version for a while but am struggling to make something durable. Think I’ll get there soon though.
@@migmatisgolf similar in their goal of maintaining the correct wrist angle. good luck
I bought one off Ali express with an inbuilt wrist clicker and it's bloody amazing, about£15
Mate, you didn’t invent this. It’s been out everywhere for years.
Great video well Done
I’m a beginner and this looks like a great drill - thank-you!
What a out hips what they do same as shoulder?
Do not rotate the hips from the top. Start with a pressure shift into your lead side with the arms starting to drop to about hip level before turning hips and shoulders.
The video was 2 months ago, hows the release going? At 4:30 in the video you talked about the trail hand getting to involved during the release, I thought it was supposed to to hit out to hit a draw type shot, isn't the trail arm responsible for the push out to hit a push draw? In your slow motion video at the end the ball was going dead left( I think) thats the problem with a net, you dont get the feed back like watching your ball flight and can work on bad habits in my case.
Thanks for asking. I am seeing real results. The ball is getting much more compressed. I have picked up a little bit of distance with the driver but the most improvement has been with the irons. I am finally back to taking divots and spinning the ball. Once in a while I’ll still get an ugly low left but less and less. I have also discovered were that an earlier pressure shift helps the new release or helps eliminating the bottom hand. I’m in the process of building a good sim so will be able to actually measure a lot of this stuff. Thanks again.
Also if you look at my foot and shoulder line in the slow mo swings the ball is starting on target line ( I concede that it probably isn’t starting right of target line) but I agree that a net on its own is dangerous as you never really know what the ball is doing hence my aim build.
@@migmatisgolf Tks for the reply.
Training aid promotes slice. 👍
always wondered why mike gave the finger to everyone there
Good idea. This has always been one of my biggest issues. My hips have a mind of their own and want to fire and spin before my arms have gotten down.
Where do you tie the band level with hands or ball line ??
Depends on your tendencies. If you want to train fire of an in to out arm path then on ball line. I use it on hand line but that is just me. Experiment a bit with it.
I'm so glad I found your video! I made one of these to see how it worked and TBH, I didn't feel any wobble in the swing so I would have wasted USD140 ! I'll still use the DIY from time to time as a checkpoint but I think this aid is for high handicappers or beginners. Good stuff.
U explained this really well too
Thx for the shout out!
very cool, great use of off the shelf components to make an open source version
Where can I find the parts list? I would like to build one of these for myself. I had an original flammer back in the 90s, and my uncle ran over it with his car. Been trying to find one since with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
Should be parts list and links in description of the video. It’s a bit old now so not sure the links will still work.
Doug Ford was no chump. He won a Masters and a PGA.
My favorite in the book is his theory behind using only one ball to practice putting.
Are you sure it’s not WOOD? Be careful of watching BBG because he has too much information and it will overwrite things that actually work. I did his 45 day routine and wasted my time. Just my opinion. I found a a TPI certified chiropractor who is making sure my body is capable of doing the correct moves.
@@kurtheitman552 I get what you are saying about BBG. I have learned over the years to pick out what is relevant to my swing issues but I agree he jumps around a lot. I still think his content is good. I do however really believe everybody should have a step drill version. Especially amateurs who picked the game up late or who never played throwing sports as kids. For some reason step drills tend to get a lot of things moving correctly in the swing. Thanks for the comment.
For people who want a slightly more authentic version of this, there are lots of options for 3D printing as well. Might be 2-3x the price of cardboard but would probably still win the price/performance challenge...
@@diminishedreturn I made a video about that with a link to a file to print one.
I use the closed front side, weight on my front side, my right side Im left handed and stillness in my swing. My take away is more traditional, but I find it works for me. Jim is great! All or most of what he teaches will work for anyone. Stillness and weight on your front side is key!!! I'm as amateur as it gets, 63 years old just started golf about 4 months ago. Shot a 69 last week, all par three but pretty good. Jims method has helped me the most!

Great diy training aid!
Is that a regular club?
It’s the 5 iron medicus training aid.
I love the ingenuity of your channel! I'm personally struggling to shift my weight onto my left heel post-impact and was looking into balance boards, but the cost of them for what they are doesn't seem worth it. Have you tried any aids that are worth the money & help promote that needed weight shift? Or better yet have you tried making a replica with any success like you did for the "The Gem"? My weight tends to stay on my toes and I often find myself falling towards my tee/divot, when I should feel my body moving towards the target. Thanks!
Thanks for the support. I have a few ideas but I would love to have a look at your swing first. Any chance you could send a video to migmatisgolf@gmail.com?
