Out of all the people that comment on your videos, I doubt you recall my specific comment(s), however, I'll state again, you, Coach Schwent, teach correct CONCEPTS and the FUNDAMENTALS that will, with any amount of studying and effort of application, help an individual improve. So many of us weekend guys are working diligently on improving while NOT KNOWING CORRECT CONCEPTS AND FUNDAMENTALS. As such, there's never any improvement. Your approach being real, down to earth and very respectful and caring, paired with visual aids and verbal explanation, will, as I stated in an earlier video comment section, undoubtedly lead to improvement for those of us implementing your teaching and training. I, as I know many others are, am very grateful - you're truly my kind of guy and instructor. The light stick is simply an outstanding extension of your manner of coaching and teaching. Both of which are outstanding. Thank you, sir!
Last night I got my PVC Mini Maglite swing aide put together. It works! I hit shots I haven’t hit in 30 years. When I hit a bad shot I knew what I did wrong. I will stick with it. Say hello to Pete the GM at Old Hickory. I was a member there until we moved to Atlanta. Go VOLS.
Thank you so much. I saw the original video and ran out and built one that day for myself and for my father in law. They are amazing! You’d better bring this to market before I do. Seriously let me know and I’ll be your sales man.
Ed and Patrick, thanks for this video and all you gents do to help us old duffers play a little better golf. My Mini-Mag lights are due in the post tomorrow. I've got plenty of leftover 3/4 - 40 PVC and electrical tape from prior building projects, so I'll have my golf "light saber" working tomorrow, and I know it will help me learn the proper swing plane / swing arc for me. Press on gentlemen!
Ed I made one of these a few years ago with a laser light and it was to hard to track!! The Mini-Maglite is absolutely the best and this has been the best training aid for me thus far!! Love the videos that you and Patrick put out. If I lived in your area I would most definitely try to get lessons from you!! Thanks Bob
As you mentioned there is a danger of the Mag lite flying falling out and launching during a fast swing. This can easily be prevented by attaching a wire or even a string through the tube between the two Maglites. They have an attachment point at the rear. The Maglite may come out of the tube but will not launch and do damage.
I have to tell you. I played right after I saw the video of your lightsaber. Just visualized the grip end going back on that line and then dropping the handle back along that line as I followed through. I hit almost every fairway and 3 out of 4 par 3's I purchased the PVC and maglights today. I can't wait to show my son and his kids. It's such a better swing thought that can be easily visualized, and it's not about positions to get into. I love it. You mean to tell me for 40 years I could have been doing this. Heh
Hands down this has changed my game. Thank you. The kids are training with it now. Allowing you to see the path is a game changer for understanding what is happening and feeling it too. Great stuff
invaluable information, thank you i just made mine, used it for 20 reps in my garage, then took a swing into my net, i hit it square on the face and it was effortless, its usually by mistake I hit a ball that clean, im excited to hammer this in and go play. thank you again
Got mine and really works great, it's makes your swing really easy, was crushing the ball further than ever last night on my Rapsodo. Numbers and accuracy way better.
Built my light stick today and to make sure the flashlights don't come out, I left them sticking out about 1/2 inch and put some electrical tape on the outside toward the end of the pipe and onto the flashlight to help secure them.
One thing you can do to keep the flash light stay put is to tie an elastic around the end. The Mini Maglight has a loop on the end, and I cut several elastic bands and tied them together and tied the ends to the each flash light. This way of the light does come out it will hopefully get stopped by the bands
I made mine less than a week ago. I have played twice and can already see improvement I use it about 15 minutes a day. Even made one for my son Haven’t got it correct for the driver yet but I am sure I will the more I use it
Something that I didn't hear asked and if it was I apologize is: Does it matter how fast or slow you swing it? Do you get just as much benefit by swinging it slowly as this is how I seem to use it. Feeling the path as the light travels down the target line. It would seem to me to be harder to see the path you're swinging the faster you swing it.
Hands down this is the best golf instruction channel on TH-cam.( That’s not just after subscribers and money ) I also enjoy the stories mixed I. As well. I’ve totally bought into the lessons you’ve posted so far and golf has never been more fun. So far I’ve made 8 of these “Lite Strikes” sticks for friends. Thank You for bringing joy back into my golf game.
I really enjoy your videos and think this training aid is great. I have a question, when using the flashlight training aid I feel like my left wrist (right handed player) is cupped at the top of the back swing. My grip is correct…am I doing something wrong? Thx love the channel
This is something we will likely cover in depth more in future videos since it's a bit tough to explain in text format. In short, as long as the flashlight is staying on the target line, it should be fundamentally "correct" for your style of grip.
Any recommendation on how long you should practice for? Should you practice every club length you have? Or would a few be fine? For example, a wedge, a 7 iron, and Driver lengths. Or should you do more club lengths than that? Thank you!
@@TheGolfSensei Awesome. That's pretty much my question. What's the optimal way to practice with this aid and not waste time. Should you practice with the light aid and then right after swing the club you were practicing the length for? Or go through several club lengths with the light aid? You know? Questions like that. "Optimize your practice with this aid" THANK YOU!
Hey Ed.... I figured out a way to secure the flashlight so I can swing as FAST as I want: Materials for the job include: A length of ground wire off a piece of Romex Wire......a drill and drill bit, slightly bigger in diameter than the ground wire....and a marker. The first thing I did was place the flashlight along side the PVC Pipe to see how far the flashlight would extend into the pipe, and made a little mark on the PVC. At that point, I drilled a hole in the PVC...being sure to angle the hole toward the end of the pipe so the wire could be easily inserted into the pipe, and out through the opening where the flashlight will ultimately sit. (If you drill at a 90 degree angle to the pipe, the wire will go in and just butt into the inside wall of the pipe. Angling the drilled hole allows the wire to be pushed in with ease). There's a little key ring hole on the flashlight battery compartment end cap. I put the wire through the end cap eye and twisted it a couple of time for security. I then inserted the flashlight, (with tape around its body as you showed), and pulled the wire all the way back through the drilled hole. I had enough wire left to wind it around the pipe for about four turns. I only did the club head side of the pipe and then went to town swinging as hard as I could.....and the flashlight held. I suppose one could do both sides, but just the one side was good enough for me. Try it out !! JC
Can you spend time in another video focusing on just the downswing/transition with the aid? I am really struggling with how to do that correctly and get the light traveling on the right path?

Wow, Jim Furyk's swing seems like a lot of extra work to hit the ball straight
You'd probably never teach someone to swing like that, but it works for him!
Jim Furyk’s backswing would have been traditional 60 years ago 😂
8 years old? Man, you've been working with the light stick that long?
I took a long break from golf a few times between 8 and 37 haha! But it does really help develop some good fundamentals in the swing
-Patrick
Yes he should have swung it a lot more!
