Do This To Fix Your Takeaway

  • In this video I will show a selection of the best way to fix your takeaway for good. It is crucial that you get the first couple of feet of the golf swing correct. If you do you will be well on your way to a more consistent golf swing.
A lot of amateurs struggle with the takeaway and immediately put themselves on the back foot. Often they will watch a TH-cam video and the fix just doesn't work. This is why in this video I go through multiple different way to fix your takeaway. Having a great takeaway will set you up for a perfect backswing.
The first way is by focus on the forearms in the takeaway. By understanding how each arm should work relative to each other can help you fix your inside takeaway. Using a steering wheel analogy you will be able to learn the correct feelings instantly. The second way is by focusing on the hands and wrists. Having the correct wrist set is key as it allows you to set the club up on plane with a great takeaway. A poor wrist set will make you lose control of the clubface, get the club off plane straight away, get the takeaway too far inside, get the club outside the hands and create a poor position. To finish the video I go through two simple golf takeaway drills that will allow you to speed up your learning process allowing you to achieve a perfect takeaway position. These drills will help with wrist hinge, an inside takeaway, outside takeaway, your hand path and clubface positioning.
This video is a fantastic guide, filled with huge detail in how to fix your takeaway. This will allow you to achieve a perfect takeaway position. Check out this video and like always let me know what other golf coaching videos you would like to see!

This rolling of the hands is i think what has been causing my left field long irons , i start to notice a left bounce on my eight iron after a nice baby draw and it starts to get hookey and left kick with a seven ,
I think ive gotten on top of it by taking away much more down the line , i tend not to hinge the wrists until im past horizontal .
I have been and still am awaiting this turning into a cut .
On the plus side taking away like this seems to give me more time somehow in the downswing .
Great video giles and perfectly timed for me once again 👍

If you don’t get the takeaway correct the rest of the swing is compensations. Dude is 1000% correct. If you take the club to the inside, you have to feel the opposite going back. Club outside the hands. I’ve been using the steering wheel analogy which felt completely bizarre for weeks, but I stuck with it and my game has dramatically changed. Don’t be afraid to hit some bad shots until it feels more natural. I’m telling you, It’s worth it.

Excuse me, while I gush about the quality of your instruction for the umpteenth time!! Based on other comments , it is proven in their own performance as well. The pressure of the lead hand towards the right toe in a downward push is an incredible thought!! In a Newtonian twist, it is an equal and opposite reaction. But then golf is a game of opposites isn't it? Again you're explaining precisely why one single move creates another with no conscious thought of the latter at all. UNBELIEVABLE. Excellent tips Giles on how to fix the takeaway! One thing I try not to do is roll the forearms on the takeaway. I have been using the left hand pushing down on the butt end of the club for a while now and I really like this move. I will now implement your suggestion of extending the right hand which definitely puts one into a straight left wrist and bent back right hand position which I have been attaining with my movement. Your "stop, check, and go" drill is great! Also, I will be definitely using your "extended" alignment stick drill to verify club position. The index finger on the side of the shaft is very unique and one I will be trying, especially with driver, since I sometime am too shallow with my backswing! Hi Giles, exactly what I was looking for. What I am missing though is the transition into the downswing. This new take away (lifetime roller of the arms) makes me feel really rigid with tension. I feel like I am losing a lot of mph swing speed, which for me is around 111mph. Any tips? Thanks!🙏

Q: you seem to do two takeaways with different wrist set. On one the club is parallel to the ground, the other the club is more up to the sky.

Giles, Is it possible to conclude iron swing moves by just looking at driver swing?
In one case if student have his best driver swing and now have iron swings can't have driver swings hypothetically?

So if student has iron swing currently but in his best, he has driver swing so if we compare iron less side bend with driver more r side bend then can't conclude right or wrong so we need to compare with good iron swing.
So what if have only best driver swing can't we conclude r side bend move for iron in mind?
Then compare with current iron swing.

I think I do an inside takeaway, but it's not because that I roll my forearm, I get the lead arm too much across the chest.
Is that also a cause for taking it inside too much?
