In this video we check out a beautiful Swiss Luger, yes we said Swiss not German. Many people are unaware that Switzerland adopted the Luger chambered in 30 Luger before Germany adopted the P08 in 9mm These pistols are very, very well made and are typically in pristine condition on the surplus market which comes with a high price however, unfortunately. Stay tuned, much more on the way.

I'm from Switzerland and a friend of mine has such a Swiss Luger because his grandfather was a police officer. And yes we have still pretty open gun laws. If you are 18, your nationality is swiss and you don't have any criminal record you can buy semi automatic rifles and pistols. With a special licence you can also buy fully automatic guns or supressors. But we don't have as much shootings as the USA, so it can't be the guns ;-)

@@timewave02012 Yes I know, but if Switzerland has around 1/40 of your population, there must have never the less more shootings. I know that one shooting occured in Switzerland approximately 20 years ago. If you look at gun deaths (homicide and suicide) per 100'000 people USA ranks on top with a big difference to the next country.

@@michicyrill6397 A bunch of Latin American countries rank higher than the US for gun deaths. Our statistics are also high because of suicides, which I understand is a problem for Switzerland too, although not as much. I wonder if US "gun violence" would actually stand out if adjusted for the higher violence by any weapon.

If the P is stamped as part of the serial number then its a commercial gun, if its stamped afterwards above the serial, trigger guard etc in a different font to the serial then its a military served pistol which the user having served enough time in the forces was allowed to purchase it for himself.

In Switzerland, with a collector permit, a civilian can own brand new machineguns.

    • @cardaveux
      @cardaveux 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

There is no collector permit im Switzerland. There is a canton exception permission depend in which canton you live and will you cost 150 swiss francs if you want a full automatic gun. This canton exception permission (kantonale Ausnahmbewilligung) can be refused as well. If you don't have at least a few guns in your stock you won't be receive this kantonale Ausnahmebewilligung. Even you have a legal full automatic gun at home you can't shot it. You need another special permission for shooting, cost you 100 swiss francs and the private shooting range must give the OK for this before shooting. I'm swiss and so i'm now what i'am talking about it.

And then i also need to buy one of the very few pre 86 full auto machine guns in the US market so its going to be tens of thousands of dollars for an otherwise 2k or less firearm in your market.

I had the honor of shooting a German Luger in 9mm a few weeks back. An old timer at the range told me the story of how his grandfather got it in WW1. He had 1 mag full of ammo left and handed me the gun. He said "please run this last mag". What a an amazing piece of history to hold in my hand and shoot.

Later he traded it for a 38 S&W which was the first gun I shot at 3 years old
I never got to shoot the German Luger but I did get to play with it unloaded LOL

A fine piece like that requires an old-school, one-handed stance to shoot. That's what that grip angle was made for in the late 1800's. I've fired an old service Luger in 7,65 Parabellum and the pointability and recoil impulse is just like whipped cream. That's a beautiful gift to give and have for sure.. Like a Swiss watch in many a sense.

Thank you for the EXTRA INFO on the Swiss P08. I did have a Original Mauser 1929 Swiss style P08 that I picked up at a pawn shop for $325 back about 15 or so years ago, it had a little bit of surface rust and someone took it apart and didn't put it back together CORRECTLY that's how I was able to get for a GOOD PRICE. THEY were asking $550 for it and I told him it had something broken inside of it. I knew that was NOT the case because at that time I had 2 other ones (1915 DWM bring back matched in reasonable shape and a 1940 S/42 Russian capture matched as well in pretty good shape) So needless to say I knew a bit about LUGERS. Unfortunately I had to sell all 3 of them due to FINANCIAL PROBLEMS in 2008, they sell QUICKLY. I WAS HIGHLY UPSET TO HAVE 3 AND THEN HAVE NUN. So as soon as I was able I got another one at a gun show for $500 but had to replace the recoil, striker springs (myself) and get a Mec-Gar magazine. When I was looking it over I saw it WASN'T MATCHING BUT ONLY 2 DIFFERENT SETS OF NUMBERS. The frame was Simpson marked (scrawny eagle over a 6) and a DWM toggle assembly. The barrel extension had 1940, barrel looked BRAND NEW but was arsenal marked. NO SERIAL NUMBERS on the side and under the barrel. NO PROOFING MARKS ON THE OTHER SIDE AS WELL, so I thought that was interesting. The barrel looked NEW because the recoil springs (2 of them) was NOT CORRECT so that's why it couldn't have been in the FIELD. I think a GI maybe went into the arsenal and put one together with the WRONG SPRINGS? I'M HAPPY IT WORKS LIKE A NEW PISTOL AND IS A GREAT SHOOTER DUE TO THE NEW BARREL. LUCKY DOG, LUCKY DOG.😂😂😂😂

I've got a 1920 Commercial and a 1906 American Eagle. They always bring a smile to my face when I bring them out. I would be interested in seeing a reloading video for the 30 Luger cartridge. Quality brass is available from the usual sources but I can't find any bullets that are the .3085 spec.

A beautiful weapon. The front sight stands a little tall and probably for a greater wartime range.

    Beautiful gun!
Thanks for the video as always.
And I think you should probably have phrased that a little differently to “ If I had bought only one of these and brought it home for me, this channeled would be renamed The divorced Iraq veteran 8888”
    😝

@iraqveteran8888, I'd love to see antique weapons like the musket vs bulletproof glass.

Nice pistol and fine video! Try to find an Brazilian 1906 Contract sample, in .30 Luger, to do a fire test too. Anybody else saw the cow at backyards at 20'05"? Thanks for the video!

Apparently I'm in the wrong business if running a TH-cam channel that posts 3, maybe 4 videos a month makes enough money to buy Swiss Lugers 2 at a time.

You can make a lot of money if you get a lot of views. Not only that, they sell merch and have affiliate links too.

Yup, they worked long and hard to get here plus all the support they offer to other smaller channels. The advertising and merchandise is of course great.
