  • After 4 years and over 10,000 miles, I thought it about time to do a review of my 2015 BMW S1000R Sport. I've been down to the Alps and up to Scotland on it and it's a bike I really love. Find out about the good bits and the... not so good bits!

    I test rode a s1000r after riding a super Duke 1290r , speed triple, mt09 tracer , mt07 , and others .
    It was head and shoulders above Everything I had riden , so easy and smooth, made me laugh out load for 20 minutes during the test ride because its a complete hooligan.
    It was in my garage a week late and is still my baby .

      Oh mate - same here - I don’t think I got the best possible deal when I bought mine cos of how much I was smiling after the test ride. I’d decided about 10 minutes from the dealers I was buying it and the salesman could see that on my face 🤣🤣🤣

      Whats the advantages of it over a Speed Triple?

    • @thebearfacedbiker
      @thebearfacedbiker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On paper they’re similar, but the speed triple never did it for me. I find the riding position, balance, feel and general excitement of the S1000 just much more engaging. It’s a bit up on power, but it’s not just that, it’s the whole experience. Hard to put your finger on - definitely try them both and see what works for you!

    • @thebearfacedbiker
      @thebearfacedbiker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, the racks all say not to attach a topbox, maybe useful if you want to strap big bags on though I guess. The rest are soft bags and I’d just as sooner strap a roll bag on which can fit plenty in. Hepco and Becker do c-bow soft and hard panniers now too, but they’re both tiny, so may as well still use a cheap roll bag. I suppose it is basically a sportsbike, but I do wish BM would do a proper rack for a top box at least. Guess it wouldn’t sell enough.

    After your close up on the levers i learnt two things
    1 the clutch isn't reach adjustable
    And

    • @thebearfacedbiker
      @thebearfacedbiker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the power of the front is crazy strong. If anything it can feel a bit snatchy and some people change out the master cylinder, but I can’t remember what for. Anyway, to make it a bit softer in how the bite progresses and to give adjustment which the Nissin doesn’t have. The stock clutch lever has no adjustment, but I picked up some used HP levers since I made the vid and the clutch is adjustable on those. Plus they’re lovely!

      @thebearfacedbiker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve had almost no problems. Horn went at last years MOT, disks are starting to show as ‘slight fluctuation’ on MOT, but still loads of life left on them. BM annual servicing costs between £200 and £260 or so depending on years it needs air filter and brake fluid. Starting to service myself this year and bought an OBD Link and Motoscan app. You can mail order service kits with OEM oil, filter and washer too from dealers, so will be cheaper now going forward. All in, no more expensive than running a street triple for consumables!

    • @thebearfacedbiker

      Totally different bikes really. S1KR is basically a sportsbike with handlebars - focussed, loads of feel, small, light and nimble. GT is a bit bigger, heavier and lazier in feel/handling, but still has loads of power and has wind protection and luggage for touring. Depends what your main uses will be... I think you have to try them both to know what’s best for you. 👍

      Yea, I live in imminent fear of the 18000 mile service cost! Bought an OBD link and serviced myself for the last few years which is very easy. BM annual varies between about £220-240 depending on air filter and brake fluid changes and that includes parts and labour.

    Are you kidding me? I have driven more than 100,000 km on one motorcycle in 5 years. On the next one in half a year, your 10,000 miles. And I'm not making a video out of it as a "long-term" review. Wear at least 3-4 sets of tires and then make a video.

    # Nice video, very useful sensible and helpful review, is a good bike for commuting honestly? daily use and weekend touring, of perhaps recreation purpose? you know about maintenance/ repair? expensive? actually actually buy a new bike with less specs wise than a user bike? for example: Triumph Street triple R or RS new, or a user BMW S1000R

      Thanks! Depends on your commute. For country roads and some city, sure, no problem and great fun. For long motorway stretch in all weathers, probably not! It is a good all rounder, but it is a naked bike, so not such good weather protection. It’s a much more thrilling bike than a street triple, but the triple is also good and smaller and more nimble if you do lots of city riding. I used to have a street triple 675 and service costs were about the same (or more) than the S1000! Parts costs like disks pretty similar too. I think you must try them all and then only you can decide which is best for you, depending on how you will use it.

      @@thebearfacedbiker first of all thanks for response and extensive information, nice to hear about this bike, as you have indicated, want to use it in city and surrounding city, to work and drive as a track day when the weather is nice, wall Street triple new purchase 2 years warranty compared to BMW second handes so I'm going to think about it which one is the best option but bmw is my preference, love it very much. Thanks again
