The moon king took his daughters eyes and that's why the Beldam needs the eyes of children! Because she doesn't have her own!
What if instead of being the sister. What if the beldam Is the Moon kings wife. This could explain how she has the power to take eyes and why she obsessed with being a mother to the children that come in to her world, because she been shut away from her children (Kubo's mother and the sisters).

It's in the realm of possibilities, for sure, but it requires a much larger leap since we have no hints at all about the Moon King's wife - IF he even had one. I mean, if you look at mythologies, there is a lot of weirdo births in there. Japanese mythology specifically has one where it's like "I have a hole and you have a pole, let's put them together!" and thus the islands of Japan were born. Then there's one where Zeus had a headache, took an axe to the head to relieve the pain, and Athena popped out. So, yeah, some really bizarre things in there that make it hard to narrow things down lol

The Fangirl Some myths do say Athena has a mother - It just wasn't Hera, so she said she would leave him. But Zeus didn't want Hera to leave him so he tricked his "baby momma" into transforming into a fly - and then he ate her (as a hawk). So Athena was born in Zeus' head and her mother raised her and taught her the art of war, but all of the practicing gave Zeus a headache, and well... you know the rest. I hope you don't think I'm mocking your knowledge of Greek mythos, just thought you might wanna know.

Fun thing I noticed, the moon king's daughters are assumed to be triplets, and the Beldam goes by the title of the Other Mother. So in Kubo's case, she really would be his other mother, as the sister would look identical to his mother. Just like the Beldam. Just thought this was cool

Random question, but I get so many German viewers, do you guys learn English as part of your regular curriculum there? I always wish we did German in America, but everything is French and Spanish until college - German seems so much easier to learn!

I don´t want to speak for everyone, but in most states of Europe, you HAVE to learn English, we literally have no choice in this. With that we also HAVE to speak a second foreign language (at least in Czechia) for example, you can choose from German, French, Russian and Spanish, plus you of course still have to learn your first language. I learn German and trust me, it´s not that easy, but English in my opinion is one of the most simple languages there is. Hope this helped. :)

Did you think that Coraline is a descendant of Kubo? Because If so that's why she is able to beat the other mother and free the ghost kids because of the Demi-God blood in her. Which would also make Coraline the other mother's great great great great great great and so on so forth. grand aunt.

Even though that last fact about how it’s always night in the other world because of her time with the moon king is totally possible, I think there is also another reason why it’s night. If you go watch coraline and find the scene where she first meets wybie, he tells her that if you were to go to the bottom of the well and look up, you’d see a sky full of stars in the middle of the day. This could explain why even when coraline went to the other world in the middle of the day, it’s always night. This could also mean that when coraline threw the key down the well, it just went straight back to the other mother.

In that other part in Cora line I realized that The other mothers face is cracked kind of like the sisters mask that was laying on the floor in Kubo and the two strings

Ik I'm a little late to this video but if you notice (Idk if this is true I've never seen the movie) the moon kings eye in another shot looks brown so was it only blue because at first it was a child's and within a few minutes turned into it's natural shade because of how old it's supposed to be?

I believe the term used is spiritual sequel, as in, its a sequel of the story behind Bhibli Kayuga, not Ghibly kaguya itself
I've just noticed the name gives it away 'the two strings' and the beldam makes dolls, is that a connection?
According to Greek mythology when the human form of the god is killed they turn in to what they represent like how Uranus after he was kill was turned into the sky in which he represents. So Kumbo's aunt would have to have turned into what she represented not unless her animal symbol is a spider. Well I do not know Japanese mythology a lot but I think it is the same way as in Greek mythology.

Honestly, I believe that the spider form isn't her true form. I think that the Beldam chose this form because of Coraline's fear of spiders. She knows how to scare Coraline.

Another reason it could be night always is because like you said the well is used to keep the Beldam inside and Wybie says that if you look up at the well you will see a sky full of stars in the middle of the day.
I realized that while the sisters wanted Kubos eye, (because he only had 1 eye) the eyes that are hidden in the other world for coraline to find are 1 eye from each of the children the Beldam has taken. So it make sense as to why the sister would be the Beldam and why there is the obsession with children's eyes. I know I am jumping on this train a little to later but it makes perfect sense.
Actually, fun fact, the sisters have names.
The one with the pipe is Washi, and the other sister/the one with the chain weapon is Karasu!

Okay, now I'm curious. What happens if a non-tween discovers the portal to the Other world? What would the Other Mother do with a toddler or teenager? A toddler would be easily prey for the Beldam, but a teen? Although a teen might not be able to enter the portal similar to how adults can't.
The book might have the best answer for this. The door is solid bricks IF the Other Mother doesn't want you. And it also says that she can "flatten" all the other portals too when she wants to. So it would be difficult for someone unwanted to gain entry.
I feel like a teen would be hard to trap because lots of teenagers are detached from a lot of things and doubt things that are too good to be true

Awesome! Then it works all around! I know the book has quite a few differences with the movie though, so I think the movie having a lot of different forms for the Beldam helps my case too.
