The only thing I disagree about “going out tonight” and doing fun things, is that you missed a crucial scene where coraline and her mother had some development. Coraline was mad for not getting the gloves and the mom says , something along the lines of If things go well today I promise to make it up to you. And coraline didn’t believe her because that’s what the mom always says. The mom looked genuinely sad and I think that’s why she changed her actions in the end of the movie compared to how she was in the beginning.

It’s not that the mom felt bad, their magazine got accepted so they had money now. The thing is Coraline (and the kids watching) don’t understand money isn’t infinite. They *just* moved. They were definitely strapped for cash and working to earn their first payday since moving.

I remember I saw a theory that the Beldam is a type of fairy/faerie, and a way to tell if a faerie is near by is the fruits and vegetables rot. That’s of course not the full theory but that part stuck out to me

There are posters for the Shakespeare festival taking place (inspired by a real festival in the location that inspired Coraline). The kid on the stool is saying “My kingdom for a horse” and play-swordfighting. The men outside the shop are Shakespeare cosplayers. Their behaviors def make sense

When I was a kid, I hated her parents. Now that I’m an adult (don’t have kids) I kinda get it.. they were stressed from moving to a new house. The dad was exhausted and stressed trying to meet a deadline.
Not all parents can be happy and bubbly and perfect.
Also she said no to these expensive gloves while trying to spend the money they had on getting her the stuff she needed for school.. idk… I get it
Once they were done with their work and were able to relax more, we see how much they really love her in the end.

haven’t seen the movie in a while, so I’m probably missing something. I would like to know, though, why the Beldam would leave the snow on the parents when they “got back home”. One extra layer to make Coraline believe that it all really *did* happen and the parents were saved?
3:44 She was probably just inspecting them or looking for the price tags. Everyone else, though, was pretty strange.
Again, haven’t seen the film in a while, but when her parents say “finish the catalog”, I’m pretty sure that they just meant that they’d finish writing it and drop it off wherever they needed to. It’s not like her parents hate her or anything; they’re just busy with the moving and the work and the mother’s injury. It makes sense that with the work done, they could have time to go out.
Well, the cat *is* magic, or at least implied to be, so that’s why he disappears like that. Otherwise, why would the Beldam do make it do that when nobody’s around to see it?

Honestly that could make a good sequel where Coraline realizes slowly that she isn't in her real world and that her parents are still in the other world and she needs to go and get the key from the tunnel but you got to be hard because ain't no way why are you going to actually help her out of the tunnel when she gets the key back because the other mother would not want her to go back to the other world because if she did and she did actually you know get her parents free from the other mothers grass and find the real exit then the other mother would have no way of ever becoming stronger because there would be no human children coming in because Coraline would find a way to destroy the key once and for all and also she should probably put concrete on the door to make sure that nobody can actually open it even when the other mother does her magical thing and suddenly the brick wall disappears

to me when it comes what happened to Coraline’s parents I just like to think that the Other Mother must of use some kind of spell that just made them disappear from reality and into the snow globe and the figures we see of them feeling all scared and cold aren’t actually them just figures of them and the real them are just frozen in time and when Coraline free them they are just free from the frozen time of space and immediately appear back to reality and have no indication of what just happened to them and to them just feels like nothing happened to them

this theory is interesting but i disagree with the fake tunnel part. I think that the tunnel got all weird and dirty and old looking because the bedlam had lost most of her power in the other world (the ghost children’s eyes) and she couldn’t have had more power to make a fake tunnel let alone another “real” world. i don’t know tho it’s just a theory 😭😭

The Coraline Parent Theory is a fan theory that suggests that the "Other Mother" in the film Coraline is a representation of the neglectful and abusive parents of the protagonist, Coraline.
The theory points to several clues throughout the film that suggest this interpretation, such as the fact that the Other Mother initially appears to be loving and caring, but quickly becomes controlling and manipulative. This could symbolize how abusive parents can often appear to be loving at first, but gradually reveal their true colors over time.
Additionally, the Other Mother is physically represented as a tall, thin figure with exaggerated features, which could be a metaphor for the larger-than-life presence that abusive parents can have in a child's life.
Furthermore, the Other Mother's desire to "sew buttons" over Coraline's eyes could symbolize the way that abusive parents can try to control and silence their children, preventing them from seeing the truth of their situation.
Overall, the Coraline Parent Theory suggests that the film is not just a dark fantasy tale, but a representation of the very real horrors that some children face in abusive households. It serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of neglectful and abusive parenting, and the importance of recognizing and addressing these issues before they escalate.
