Choosing the Perfect Paint: Sherwin-Williams’ Duration, Emerald Urethane, & Eminence Explained

When it comes to choosing the perfect paint product for your home, there are a few things to keep in mind.
First, it’s important to consider the type of paint you want to use for the walls. This can be determined by the type of surface you’re painting, as well as the budget you have. For this project the home owner chose Duration by Sherwin Williams for its durability and wash ability.
Next, it’s important to consider the trim. This is the last of the home that will receive the most abuse and collect the most dirt, and it’s important to choose the right paint to match the style of the home. We used Emerald Urethane, here which is our go to product for trim and doors.
Finally, it’s important to consider the ceiling. This is the part of the home that will be seen from a great distance, and it’s important to choose the right paint to match the style of the home. We chose Eminence for its high hide coverage and flat finish.

Paints can be intimidating to choose, but this really helps me narrow down my choices.

Duration is more for higher humidity; Bathrooms benefit from using Duration over other Sherwin a products. Emerald urethane is for higher traffic (doors )and (abused) trim paint. Eminence is actually something getting phased out and will no longer be found.

*Update: Eminence has been phased out and we’ve started using Sherwin Williams Premium Ceiling Paint as a replacement.

I have shiplap in my bathroom. Would you recommend emerald or duration? 😊

I would go with the Emerald Urethane for the shiplap, especially if you’re going with a higher sheen like satin or semi-gloss, which would look better. But generally speaking Duration also does well in bathrooms because of the plastic polymer in the base.

Hi. Can i use Eminence on both ceilings and walls ? I would like to use one paint (white) for all…

I wouldn’t recommend that for two reasons. One, ceiling paints aren’t really designed to have any scuff resistance. Two, Eminence is actually getting discontinued and replaced by Premium Ceiling paint. If you’d like one product across the board for walls and ceilings that’s lower cost I’d go with ProMar 200 or SuperPaint.

Painters edge or promar 400 for the ceiling would be the best for a dead flat ceiling

@@chadm9944 painter’s edge is being discontinued. Both Painter’s Edge and ProMar 400 are meant for apartments and new construction. They are economical choices but not typically what a residential homeowner or long term commercial property would want to purchase.
