- Hey Gang! Wow it feels like we've been making some serious progress lately, and we don't plan on slowing down!
In this video we take our time and get the drywall dialed in as much as possible before our primer coat. We used PVA by Sherwin Williams, and it laid down beautifully. Smooth and great coverage. Followed up with a quick sand from our budget friendly sander, and 2 coats of Emerald from SW. Again, couldn't be more pleased with these Sherwin Williams products. Cameras do not do this paint job justice! Place is looking absolute incredible!

It’s always amazing what one coat of wall treatment does to a project.
Looks so good with those windows!
Paul taking the effort to get the edges just perfect? Love it. Definitely a labor of love even if it is a garage. A great job will go unnoticed while mistakes stick out like a sore thumb
Thanks 👍
Since binge watching all your videos about the house, this is the first time I'm here right on release. Right on! Congrats on the project!
I did that about 2 months ago too. Lots of videos, but was so cool seeing the whole thing from start to where they are now!
Excellent work gentlemen! It's hard to believe a year ago you were fighting with the elements trying to get the foundation and grey beam done. What a journey. You should be very proud.
Much appreciated!
I remember watching those videos thinking.....it's going to be so long before there's a building there. But yet here we are.
For a while I thought the channel was going to be dedicated to digging and redigging grade beams.
@@mjdamato lol
@@mjdamato Ohhh...grade beams! Now that makes sense. Freakin Texas accent. lol
Great job guys!
You guys should try Graco Low Pressure tips. Half the pressure required and a lot less over spray.
I pretty much use the fflp tips for everything now. So much cleaner at the end of the day.
What a coincidence, I open TH-cam right as you uploaded this
Me too. there were 11 views.
What a
COINCIDENCE
Makes for some good living.
There are no coincidences...
No such thing as a coincidence
Can I just say the production value is on point! It’s very cool having watched your channel for years to see the progression. You guys really are pros. Thanks for all you do.
Awesome! Thank you!
WE are so proud & impressed! Not too long ago there was a huge mud puddle & now there's a BIG ASS BEAUTIFUL GARAGE!
FKN AWESOME!
Can't wait to see the house build start!
Be calm Jordan...it's on it's way!
Great job guys!
Hey guys, I love the channel! Home Inspector here in Fort Worth but I grew up north of Houston. I can honestly say your channel has made me a better home inspector and I’m seriously grateful. Loving this journey with y’all
One of my favorite things about a build is how it starts off everything is oppressively bright in full sun all day, then you build up walls and there’s some shade and then a roof and it’s suddenly very dim, but as you add the drywall and the paint the whole space brightens up. 😊
My wife loves me watching these videos. You guys motivate me to do something off of the ‘honey do’ list. 😂 keep up the great work, love this build.
Let's go!! Get that list checked off! But they'll be another one ha! (married for 34 years!)
@@StudPackI hear you - I’m constantly working at it but my list has been the same length for years!
I didn't realize how dirty my monitor screen was until I watched you apply white paint! 😀
Yea, my screen had spots on it and I thought it was on the wall.😆
I have a tiny Knick in my screen protector and it gets me all the time.
Like the safe edge idea. 30 Years and you do a lot of things I do not to mention learn from mistakes and still learning!
I am in Scotland and even I know that a mosquito should be referred to as a skeeter.....
In all seriousness, love the content.
Especially how you have helped your kid build and fund their new house
The evolution of your content is great
Keep it up you skeeter hating texans xxx
You cool Scots are welcome to import some our Georgia Skeeters. LOL. Please enjoy a cold one one on us Chris.
Good call on the corner trowel..I also hate it. Used it once and ended up in the recycling bin. Love the vacuum sander. I have the conventional one without the vacuum. Works great but sure does leave a lot of dust. I'll certainly invest in the one you used. Great paint job guys.
Amazing what y’all have accomplished since you broke ground a little over a year ago! Coming up on the finish line now!
So glad you’re using PVA sealer. A great and inexpensive way to seal drywall. None of that primer and paint in one crap. All paints prime small patches but not an entire surface and it is also way more expensive than just primer. Been following you guys since early in LA. Keep up the good work and keep pumping out those great videos! 👍🏼
Thank you!
You guys are doing a great job! After 45 years of doing this myself, I'm glad to see you being very particular about everything! Using the top line is very important but you want to make sure the product doesn't flash when you're doing touch ups. I hated repainting entire walls for one ding.
I love that y’all covered the receptacle and switch boxes with paper before priming and painting. Kudos! Every production home I’ve seen, they just spray right over the wires inside the box. Makes for a very sloppy install. It’s looking sooo good, guys! 👊🏼
Waiting to paint the stairwell is a great idea. I do something similar on bathrooms. I always get some thinset on the walls. If it's not painted, it's bad to wipe off because it messes with the mud, but if I've painted it then I'm getting thinset residue on the paint. So I prime and paint one coat, then come back after tile and paint the final coat.
Enjoy the heck out of your guy’s videos! Always cracks me up when you do things like, when you yell when you hit a bug lol! Entertaining! 😂😂😂
Love all your tips & tricks. Especially sharing your challenges & how to avoid or fix them!!
Might consider throwing a light, one pass coat of primer on the bottom (back side) of your steps! Helps seal & more importantly deter any bugs, spider issues. Makes easy to see any critter-bugs on them!
Thanks Robert! We are going to drywall under the steps but left it open to install some stair lighting 👍💪
Paul, add this to your finishing armament...3M
2.5 in. x 4.5 in. x 1 in. 120 Fine Grit Pro Grade Angled Drywall Sanding Sponge. This is the green/aqua sanding sponge found at HD. Eliminates the hassles in the two way or three way corners. Found this out from Vancouver Carpenter channel. He is an absolute master teacher for drywall finishing and error corrections, or "how do I possibly fix THAT??". Also happens to be a pretty good skateboarder to boot. The sponges aren't really cheap, but they last and really save time and frustration in the corners. Great job by all you guys 👍👍👍.
You are so right about the paint. I’ve learned (the hard way) to buy the best paint you can afford.
I stopped buying paint at the big box stores and only buy at paint shops where they have solid people working there and sell the best products.
I’ve found that even name brand to name brand, stay away from buying paint at the big box stores.
Besides, dealing with local paint stores helps a local business person.
Nice work guys!
OUTSTANDING!!!!! Ive watched just about ebery video since you guys started the channel. I look forward to every installment like its a TV series. I love the family working together. I wish that I couldve did projects with my dad like this before he passed away of cancer.
Wilhelm Scream at 21:00 😆
Glad someone else caught that one too! Great video y’all!
Yeah, nice touch, if you know, you know 🤣 great stuff Jordan!
@@R-Techyeah, nice catch! But it was 20:58 to be precise!
I beat you guys! LOL Been working on my 420 sq.ft Tiny House as long as you been building the dream house. Lol ! Seriously still have to do all my trim and blocking up the outside, and cut out kitchen sink and hooking it up! But I did move in on April fools, No joke! I went with all white and my trim will be dark brown so it will definately make the sherwin Willams white Satin pop! Have enjoyed watching your videos in between working on tiny house , and on those days I felt sluggish ,I watch your videos and it always seem to motivate and inspire me , not to mention when I pull up your videos on whatever I would be doing next and got all of those tips! Thank you guys and keep up the good work. Tomarrow I gotta cut out the Wood countertop for the kitchen sink It is giving me a fit today I had to start over with laying it out, found a mistake before I cut it , it may have worked but when it cost $510 and is 1 of a kind I get alittle nervous ! LOL! I was alittle close to the front cabinet edge and so I moved it in quarter of an inch. I watched your cabinet install video and it helped allot! So THANKS AGAIN!
SEE YOU ON THE NEXT VIDEO!!
Sherwin Williams makes the best paint on the market today. I was told by a professional painter to look for a high percentage of aluminum dioxide in the paint. That is why Sherwin Williams paint are more expensive, but it is worth it.
Wrong. Benjamin Moore
I agree with both of you
OMG there really is no difference in paint ...and most people re paint between 5 to 8 years anyway ..😂😂
Ofc there is a difference in paints...dumbest comment.
Those 3 crosses in the windows can represent so many things ❤
It’s difficult to build your own house. It’s difficult to run a TH-cam channel. It’s exponentially more difficult to do them both at the same time, and also to knock them both out of the park with each and every move. You guys never cease to amaze me.
Love it!!! Can't believe you've done almost of this with just the three of you. Look forward to each new video. Keep 'em coming!!!
You guys videos are so good! The production quality, angles, time-lapses, narration, even the music, and all layered on riveting content. You guys should get a full on TV show!
Watching this and flashing back to the rain soaked foundation dig- that wasn’t too long ago but is epic how far you have come
I am getting quite excited for you guys! It has been over a year and the build of the apartment/garage is nearing completion! What a difference priming and painting makes!
I have the same sprayer as you, but I haven’t used it a lot. I find it too difficult to control coating thickness, but back rolling is the answer I needed, so thanks for that. Great progress on the garage!
Sherwin Williams 7005 (aka Pure White) in their Captivate line… I don’t want to think about how many gallons of this I’ve bought. All of our ceilings and painted millwork are done in this color on our home restoration project. The results have always been amazing for all of their paints.
Regarding the corner with the tear. A friend of mine who is a builder by trade said that any everything in a wooden house is bound to move and set once you move in and start using it. So cracks and tears are bound to occur around trim and in corners. He even went as far as to say that if you can wait don't put up the trim until 6-12 months after you have moved in.
Very nice. Here in the mid-atlantic and in the northeast smooth finishes are the only finish we accept. I didn't even know of the textured finish until I moved to Texas in the '80s, our house in Ft. Worth back in the late '60s hed a smooth finish as I recall, so texture is new to make it cheaper, and I hate it. Very hard to match texture when repairing drywall. It is so satisfying to put on the paint, you guys must be feeling good! it's also cool to see the give and take with you guys actually reacting and improving based on the comments, love how the TH-cam community can work together so well!
So satisfying to get the first coat of Primer on the walls! I still struggle knowing when to jump to that stage. It's amazing how much it hides, and highlights just the right stuff!
I would HIGHLY recommend a power sander. As someone who only does drywall a few times a year, it has still been a HUGE game changer for dust control, saving your shoulders, and for feathering all our edges, etc. Definitely a learning curve and an expense, but will never work without one again. Even as our mudding skills progress and we sand less and less, it has still been my favorite tool for drywall finishing!
Finally broke down and bought a set of those skimming blades. Have an entire basement of taping and mudding to do, looking forward to trying them!
Paul and the crew are great ❤
I just upgraded my panel from 100amp to 200amp service and had to go through a new transformer and the engineering process ( 2 months) with Consumers Energy here in Essexville, Michigan.
It took around a month for my electrical contractor, Escon corp, to get the job scheduled, and it was done in about 5 hours from start to finish, including the inspection from the Township.
I was lucky because the new transformer didn't cost anything extra 😊.
Absolutely stunning build guys. It just keeps getting more and more impressive.
it's cool to see the journey, but make sure you keep adding the "how-to" bits. i'd like to know more about your paint setup, how you chose it/details on equipment, any technique you're learning, ppe considerations, etc.
Great choice of music during the spray painting. 👍
It looks great... You're moving along and the attention to details really makes a difference in the final product
I am SO EXCITED for all the finishing details, flooring, trim, that fancy toilet!! I can't wait to see what Jordan picked out for the lights!
Loving it Fella's and enjoying the journey with you.
Since watching your channel I’ve borrowed the phrase “dialed in”, love the conciseness of it plus never hear it from anyone else at work.
For sanding the corners I would suggest getting the sanding sponges with the 45 degree beveled sides. Let's you get a nice sharp corner with no chance grooving the other wall
I used to use Behr Marquee paint from HD and then started using SW Emerald. That stuff COVERS. It's by far my favorite paint to cut in with as well.
i use behr marquee as well....whats the difference?
When I used to remodel places. Hung and taped and sanded. We used to use a drop light with a 100 watt bulb and hold at an angle to shadow the wall with light. If you sand and can’t see lines it was ready for paint.
Yeah I have one too, almost pulled it out
love to see your progress, and thank you for working your butt off to give us many entertaining videos
Super satisfying to watch the paint going on the drywall
Anyone else watching this with only enough experience to hang a picture? Been watching since y’all were in LA, love this series!
No one textures walls in the north. It was a surprise to see it when I was visiting friends in the south. Later on I learned it’s because of low quality work to hide things from the home owner. Good to see some quality work in the south!
It's a southwestern thing. Walls are smooth in the southeast. I'm from Georgia and didn't see it until I moved to Texas.
20:57 second favorite part of the entire video so far. Love the attn to detail as well in all the videos. Good job yall! The dream garage is coming along great!
I moved to SW paint for my current house and I am absolutely blown away by how great it is to paint and how good it coats.
Man every detail is thought of. This is perfection and I’m here for it! You guys are crushing it, can’t wait to see this come to life with finishes 🏠👍🏼
This video series has convinced me to definitely outsource drywall work for the rest of my life.
Why? It's not that hard. I showed my wife how to do it 20 years ago. She can hold her own with 20 minute mud.
You got that right…. and the painting too.
Yes it’s a pain in the ass.
@@robertthomas5906it’s just a pain in the ass and there’s always so much
Some of the easiest work you can do on a building. Lol... sad.
Thermacell backpacker works well to repel bugs I use 2 of them when I'm at tower site doing repairs one at truck and one at door of shack.
I feel like just yesterday I watched you guys put the steel beam in for the second floor floor in. Now you are, as I assume, almost done painting.
Emerald matte finish is my favorite paint. It's amazing how you can get it loaded on a brush or roller and it doesn't fling/drip everywhere. Even brush strokes dry like you sprayed it on.
Glad to see you guys are doing it right! As to Paul’s comment of just putting primer on walls and leaving it, I worked for a company that would just tint the primer, roll it on, and call it a day. I appreciate seeing the Stud Pack’s hard work.
Love the lighting and of course the exceptional work being done thank you 😊
I had the Porter Cable drywall sander keep a ton of dust out of my lungs. Loved it.
Tip, before you tape the drywall, take an old drywall knife and drag it over all the screws and nails. You will hear and feel if the screw or nail needs to be driven father.
Totally amazing. You men created that building that didn't exist before in the world.
I’ve got my basement all drywalled and I’ve been slacking getting it all mudded and sanded! Y’all are motivating!
Again another fine job by studpack. Y'all do marvelous work so much effort goes in to detail it's just amazing keep up the fine work and God bless
Perfect base coat. A nice wallpaper on those walls. A cool Colour in the roof 👌🏻
I’ve been really impressed with your sprayer! I’ve been on the fence about investing in a new sprayer. And after watching these past videos I’m convinced it’s time.
Being able to spray makes it so much faster to paint, looks great
Great job guys. Jordan, I hope you show some serious love to your dad for sanding the entire place. That's the hardest job for the painting to come out real nice!
I got the Full Circle sander because of you guys a good while back. Haven't actually used it but looking forward to the day I do.
You really need a corner sanding block with a pole. I use this one: A. Richard Triangular Corner Sponge, 2-1/2 inch Fine Grit on the 3 Sides. It has saved me a lot of headaches and always kept my corner crisp and clean with little effort.
I like to apply the first coat of color before doing the finish work (trim, flooring, cabinets, etc).
That way cabinets, and trim will have color behind them making blocking in a little easier. Also you can see how the different colors and textures are coming together as final finishes go on.
Thank you for the link for the full circle drywall sander. The way you are priming, rolling, then painting is exactly the I would have wanted it done as well. Not a fan of texture, so I am crazy about the way you rolled the primer then painted. Great job. Keep up the great videos...
Nice job paint job on the upstairs and the garage they look amazing. Can't wait to see main house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What an awesome change primer and paint made.
Had a chance to drive past the other day when I was in the area. It looks AMAZING. Everything blends so well with the neighborhood. Love what you guys do.
Nice work as usual. Stoked for you guys, this has been quite the journey!
Just want to put my professional (taper/painter) opinion here on order of opterations. I do recommend the flash light to check for glaring mistakes before priming but I wouldn't get too caught up patching every little imperfection. ~98% is fine. I mostly look for areas that need more sanding like edges that need to be feathered out or any tapes showing or peeling (failure to adhere).
Usually, it's a bad idea to do a spot patch over a bevel or butt joint as it will be very hard to feather in due to different dryness. Any small indents, scrapes or what have you can wait until after primer to be patched, unless it's really bad. You'll be able to spot them much easier after priming and a lot of the things you spend time fixing before primer will disappear under the thick primer. Then get yourself some painters spackling. I like the DAP DryDex brand that goes on pink and you can paint it as soon as it turns white, it will all get sanded when you sand your primer coat. Painters spackling is non shrinking and doesn't need primer.
It must be SO satisfying to finally be able to paint the interior! It's hard to imagine how grim things looked at the start, pouring foundation under the rain, you guys have come so far now! Keep up the good work, I don't miss a single video!
For your garage may I recommend using ultra white on the ceiling and the walls down to four feet above the floor. Paint the lower four feet with the same darker color paint that you used on the first floor exterior. Use a darker shade to paint a band around the garage separating the ultra white and lower wall. This way you get the reflecting white and the protective darker color where kicks and smudges tend to accrue. If you run a baseboard paint it with the same color a the band. That is what I did in my shop and it really pops. Not my idea. Something I picked up from the GARAGE JOURNAL forum.
Hey Paul, Here's a pro tip for ya... Take that sanding sponge and cut it in half lengthwise. It gives you a longer safe edge and doubles the life of the sponge. It's a two fer!
Absolutely amazing paint job on your house really looks cool. Never seen a sander like that before it looks real easy to use, keep up the good work.
The quality of paint has changed so much in my life time. 40 yrs, 20yrs paint has gotten so much better. The price has sadly gotten 10X higher, but I will admit- paint has gotten so much better, and stronger.
What are you doing to your walls to be able to tell if paint is stronger than it was before .. 😂
@@Gunter_Custom lol, yeah. Meaning of course scrub- ability. Especially, kitchen and the dreaded bathroom walls. With rasing 3 boys,... pee gets everywhere.
But if I had to pick one area, it would be paint around windows/doors.
Growing up in the 70s, paint around windows/doors trim just could not withstand the hot and cold expansions in the interior.
But now semi-gloss paint by advance interior paint last so much longer with almost no flaking and cracking.
@@rwhite9994
good answer . 😊
I liked the "Wilhelm Scream" at around 20:56 (during the garage sanding). 👍👍
FYI: The Wilhelm Scream was first heard in the 1951 film "Distant Drums." It has since been used in hundreds of films, including Star Wars.

I used the Emerald to paint our our living room / kitchen area and I agree SW top of the line paint is excellent paint. We went with a pale yellow color and six months in and it is holding up great. I always get great customer service and solid advise when in their store.
Super excited to see the amazing progress yall r making. God bless yall
This gets more beautiful every second. 🎉
Hey, Paul! I'd love it if you uploaded a short video on the hip procedure you got. Was it a hip resurfacing or full replacement? How much confidence do you have in the new hip versus before? In what ways are you limited or not limited? In a previous video, you were balancing on the edge of a scaffold, and I thought to myself, "Damn, that must be a bionic hip!" Congrats on all the progress you've made both on the build and on the channel. Did you ever suspect that your best talent might end up being a T.V. personality?
Looks great. The video editing is great too. I felt like this was one of your best videos with the time lapse. Makes the color contrast more dramatic. Good work all around.
Heck yeah!! Looks great guys
Looks really great guys. Love the contrasting windows! 🪟
Great progress and demonstration! You can put protection up at the stairs and doorways.
Appreciate your methods ... done alot of residential painting and drywall work amal is good when doing finish work or prep
It looks awsome even with just primer, and emerald is fantastic paint. I love working with it.
I always put ram board on the stairwell walls during construction. Helps with dings on the walls
“Dad loves cleaning buckets.” LOL. 😂🤣
Love the tall ceiling on the second floor!
LOOKS AMAZING! And since sanding + painting the worst parts of building, spent the entire video thinking + guessing about next steps for that 19' ceiling apt.. As NYer, would be using that 'air space' somehow - like putting in a 1/3 room length loft for sleeping.. Anyway, compliments!
I had the same idea about adding a loft space.
