Ready to have my house painted. Doing research on the different Sherwin Williams Exterior paints. This video was helpful in explaining the differences in Resilience and Duration Latex paints. I also called my local Sherwin Williams paint store. Thank you for advice on the differences in paint.
I’m a paint contractor in North Carolina . I been using super paint for many years and that is really good product last really long time . Duration is awesome I paint one my best clients with duration 10 years ago and in still proud of that . Resilience in other hand I don’t have good results two simple reason the body of paint is very thin and fades a lot stay away from resilience
@@painterofraleigh2232 I forgot to ask. Do you recommend spraying or brushing....There’s so much information and all have different techniques. I would think brushing would be better.
Duration is a great product. and we do recommend it over the other products offered at Sherwin Williams. There is one product called Emerald that has reulted in a superior finish.
I started using the Resilience and was very happy with it , the first 2 houses I painted turned out good but then the next house I painted I noticed little cracks in the paint and a lot of little pin holes , then I painted another house and again the small cracks and pin holes and it wasn't the surface all surfaces were exactly the same " stucco with the sw Loxon sealer underneath , I wouldn't have blamed the people for complaining but so far have not , forgot to mention it was the Resilience gloss on all 4 houses , I will stay away from Resilience for now , I have complained to the store manager of the Sherwin Williams store and they are investigating the problem , still waiting on what might be the cause , until then I'm going to use the Duration.
@@josephpuchel6497 when painting bare wood, just make sure to use a good latex exterior primer, if project is exposed to the environment. (Many paints say they are "self priming". I still prime.) If doable, prime on all sides of the wood: front back, top, bottom and, most importantly the end grain of a cut board...maybe even go over the end grain twice if it has never been primed. Not sure about the last part of your query but, never use old paints, especially if there was the possibility it may have became frozen in the can at some point. The chemical properties have been ruined. Hope this helps.
@@deannewbern6810 I’m painting my garage it has cedar clapboard siding . I scraped the loose paint after a power wash cleaning. Some of old paint doesn’t come off but there is a lot of areas down to the cedar wood. I did scrap it down about 18 years ago and did the paint/primer paint. The Sherwin Williams guy said just paint over the bare wood along with rest with Super paint. But I don’t think that’s correct because I should have a good primer whether oil or latex. I’m thinking oil but is latex primer good in my case . I’m old school always used oil primer Thank you for any advice
How well would Duration hold up to porch/deck rails that have standing water on them after it rains? The rain can be on them for hrs at a time and even days at a time depending on how often it rains.Or is there a better product more suitable for these conditions? I hope you can answer this for me.Thanks
little confusing, if you look close at the cans all say lifetime warranty. the super paint label says paint and primer in one but they say you need primer? always use prime if going over patched areas. im sure all 3 are good.
Yes all these products do say paint and prime in one. Better products typically do. There are typically two reasons why primers are used, to promote adhesion or Stain blocking. So in the world of primers one type does not suit all. There are primers that are stronger stain blockers and some primers better adhesive properties; depending on the types of stains or adhesive problems would dictate the appropriate primer to use.

All three of these products have exterior products. Duration and SuperPaint have an interior product as well. I would rank them as Duration (being best), Resilience (better) and SuperPaint (good). Emerald (which has an offering for interiors and exteriors) are superior.
In contradiction to what she says, Super Paint has a limited lifetime warranty AND it is a paint and primer in one. It states these features right on the front of the can. Geez...
You are correct Super Paint does have a limited lifetimne warranty, in comparison to Duration and Resilience it doesn't weather as well. With regards to the way it is listed as being a "paint and prime in one", is not the same as self-priming (as the spec reads for Duration ). Paint and prime in one is really a marketing spin and I highly recommend reading the spec on the product to search for wording that states "self priming" vs, "paint and prime in one".

I am a pro painter in Greece , and i really like the duration od sherwin williams , where can i found that product please? Really good video from both of you guys ! Duration last lifetime , what do you mean?
I am not a pro but I painted the whole house using Super Paint (No primer) and it gave me best possible texture and no lines (if you see from the side). I painted one room with Duration later and I got lines. May be because it was Satan finish or may be it dries out too soon. Don't know. May be I should try flat finish using Duration.
Don't believe in people just seating with a nice clothes and looks like never touch a brush in their life. Super paint is a good middle quality. And price for this one is better! If you pick up super paint you will NOT FO WRONG! Duration is to thick paint and you need more paint for your project. Resilience is way to much $$$. Not worthy... The funny thing is they always talk about how BEAUTIFUL AND BEST PAINT IS *"THAT" MILLION DOLLAR PAINT ... BUT... you still need a primer 🤔😞😞 Of course you need a primer and use always a middle good quality paint from other stores like home depot, Benjamin, lowes they are good too. Is is new project yes you need a primer, if is repaint you may not need a primer. My gran gran gran gran gran gran grandfather told me that...🤪
Such a clown response. Just because they are sitting down for a few minutes talking about paints doesn't mean they don't do anything. Stupid logic. Idiot.

Would you recommend super paint for exterior? I’ve been researching paints for my home
Absolutely ...super paint is a great product if you could apply two coats of paint and you be worry free for long time
@@painterofraleigh2232 I forgot to ask. Do you recommend spraying or brushing....There’s so much information and all have different techniques. I would think brushing would be better.
you can also use durection and super pain for outside
Ya is it better to roll, brush or spray the Durations coating?
I tell people you get what you pay for! Duration all day long!🙌🏻

Super paint is best. Been using it a few decades. Just remember to add a gallon portion of anti mildew additive. (I believe it's called M1.)
Hello what primer should I use ?
I’m painting clapboard with are down to wood and other areas have leftover non removed paint ? Thank you
