Duration Matte, and sometimes Satin, are my go-to paints 80% of the time when I paint walls. Really great coverage, durability and ease of application. Very little splatter. Customers are always happy to pay more for such a great product.
Great video brother. Love the duration I use it all the time. 100% agree with everything you said here thanks again for making all these videos I watch them all and they're super helpful to me in my business thanks again man
Dang, great review and solid info in the comments too. I have been trying to decide what to do my man cave in. Going with SW Emerald in Foxhall Green with a matte finish...especially since it's on sale now.
I'm a paint novice for sure. But the big surprise for me with emerald in a dark color is that it may take more than 2 coats to cover up a light blue. It also rolls "oily". The other surprise is that there are basically zero fumes with this stuff. Our upstairs was almost unbearable with paint fumes from the Duration we used that lingered for days. Emerald looks great thought! I'm digging the matte for sure.
I'm a big fan of Sherwin-Williams paint. My favorite is Cashmere paint flat finish. But after seeing your post. I just bought Duration with matte finish to paint my walkout basement. Ty
Nice review. I use Duration satin myself. It is great if you have decent walls with little or no detectable imperfections, otherwise matte (or egshell) is good too. I've also used the Emerald line and like it, mainly because it does come in egshell and I use in on my tongue and grove ceilings. Both covered well even when the cut edge started to dry before I got to that section. I'm always amazed that people will buy the cheapest paint they can get and wonder why it turns out bad. You tend to get what you pay for.
Ready to paint a bedroom feature wall using a very dark color and soft white on the rest of the walls over the current flat SW Kilim beige on the walls. And also using the same soft white color over Kilim beige semi-gloss in a bathroom with a shower enclosure. Was hoping for one coat to cover, but you are saying two coats would be needed, for both the dark paint and soft white paint? SW store says sure one coat is all that's needed. Appreciate the help. Glad I found your TH-cam page.
For sure I would do two coats on everything. You may even need to do a 3rd with the accent wall color. This is the best paint I’ve used so far for accent walls: THIS is the Best Wall Paint I've Ever Used // Pro Painter Explains Why th-cam.com/video/4R7K9yZSbpI/w-d-xo.html For the majority of the jobs that we do, we do 2 coats on everything.
About to purchase this for my first time painting my bedroom, do you have a recommended primer? My walls are ~white~ but I am unsure if it's considered drywall or if it's painted white.
It's likely that your walls are painted drywall. You don't necessarily have to prime them, since you'll be using an acrylic paint over another acrylic paint. If you're doing a big color shift, or you have a lot of drywall repair, then most multi-purpose primers will work well. The one from sherwin Williams is called "Multi-Purpose Primer" and it comes in a blue can. Good luck with your project!
We built a garage suite over this past year and based on one of your earlier videos we went with Duration in the upper apartment and garage for all of the walls and trim. It is is an awesome paint. I painted all day and rarely had paint on me at the end of the day. We went with Satin on the trim instead of Semi-Gloss. I like the look but not the touch as much - not quite as smooth and seems less durable but time will tell. The only picture framing was when I discovered that one of the stores mixed a second can of a darker color with a Deep Base instead of an Ultra Deep Base and did not tell me. I found out too late. :-( Used 200 on the ceilings (except bathroom which was also Duration based on your recommendation) and PVA primer. Primer + 2 coats everywhere on new walls and they look great! Thanks for your recommendations - we are very happy with the results! As an aside I tried Emerald on my garage shelving as a comparison and it seems much better and more durable. If I was to do it again, I think I would use Emerald on the trim everywhere else.
Hi Kevin, appreciate the feedback. Glad you like the look of the Duration on the walls. On new drywall we do one prime coat and two topcoats as well. For the trim we typically use the Duration semi and aren't too familiar with the satin. For shelving we like using the Emerald Urethane trim paint. It will stick to anything and dries harder than Duration. I'm sure the Emerald semi is great as we have used it a few times and liked it. Sorry about the picture framing with the different base of paint (its happened to us too). Major supply shortage around here so it can be hard to come by. Have a good one!
The main thing I find with BM Regal at 75$/gallon is that I'm finding I need to prime one coat and paint one coat. Two coats of paint works too. I've heard that other pros can get by with just one coat all in. Having a thick paint is necessary for being able to lay it on thick without drips. Two coats of color is pricy and sorta more painful to apply since primer is ultra easy to apply. Kilz 2 is only 15$/gallon. I've been thinking of doing SW but I have noticed that it's less thick and covers a bit less. I wonder if primer plus one coat works well enough. The reviewer mentioned that he can easily blend in but with matte that tends to be easier. I'm curious about the blending ease with other finishes.
@SuperVassarBrothers thanks for the video. I had watched your Aura review so wanted to check on this one as well. I'm painting a small full bath that has had mold issues even though we use the fan (and have changed the fan). Unfortunately, it also has an acoustical tile ceiling 😔 It's an old house and that's what was in it when we bought it 30+ years ago (and we didn't know better back then). We aren't at a point where we can redo the ceiling in there yet so I'm hoping to just make it more pleasant to be in there until we can. I've cleaned the walls and ceiling as best as I can to get the surface mold off and went over it all with vinegar. I'm going to be using the Zinsser mold killing primer (I know you recommend oil but this is the only full bath in the house so I have to get it done in a day). How well does the Duration cure? I have 2 daughters, so sponge baths are out 😂 Anything else besides fans and a dehumidifier that would help with drying and curing? Thanks for the info. Even though it'd probably make most professionals cringe, I'm going to paint over those ceiling tiles, just to seal in the stains and improve the aesthetics in there. I can't stand looking at it anymore.
Duration cures out quickly. Running a fan is the best move to get things to dry quickly. Emerald matte is also a good choice. My New Paint Load Out // 2023 th-cam.com/video/ceynEKT5loc/w-d-xo.html
Also my favorite when used for light colors (white base), but not my favorite when using a deep base (dark color). I’ve found the deep base sheen is too high and the coverage is lacking. When I need a deep base color, I upgrade to Emerald.
If we went with Duration Matte for walls what would you suggest for trim? Satin or semigloss? I like the skip one rule, but our painters typically do semigloss for trim, which I would what to do if we chose to go with an eggshell sheen for walls. Worried with the Duration Matte walls and semigloss trim that the trim will stand out way too much? Also, with the Duration Matte being versatile in all rooms. Can you still use eggshell in bathrooms? Wanting to keep it simple with the same sheens for walls! Would love your suggestions!!!!
Hi Bailie. Good questions. Duration matte has close to an eggshell finish. It has more sheen/shine, than all other mattes we've used. You would be fine to to use semi gloss for trim (we do). Also Duration matte can be used in every room even bathrooms since it has moisture blocker. It is personal preference so go with what you like and not what others tell you, even us :)
I am not a fan of Cashmere. Duration covers quite a bit better and, at least in my opinion is easier to work with and has a better finish. Sherwin Williams eggshells and satins are a little weird, because they vary from paint line to paint line. For instance the Emerald Satin is close to a traditional eggshell, but the in Duration the matte is closer to a traditional eggshell.
Painting the whole house with worldly Gray. We want to do duration or emerald as it's durable and we have a kid. however, how shiny is the satin? Is the mat just as washable as the satin in duration or emerald? It doesn't look like I can find eggshell in any of these or low Sheen. I also saw the Benjamin Moore has a washable matte
Our go-to wall paint is Emerald matte. The satin sheen isn’t too shiny particularly in the Emerald. The satin will be more durable than the matte but less aesthetically pleasing. There’s always trade-offs.
Going from Flat in the interior of the home to Satin will it be to shiny? I want to be wipe the wall because of the kids what you recommend the color we are going for is City Loft.
The satin in duration or emerald isn’t too bad as far as shininess. Is a bit shinier than a typical eggshell but it’s not crazy. Definitely more wipeable than the matte.
My boss is giving me grief for not choosing semi-gloss on custom cabinetry mdf we made for book shelves and children's seating. I went with matte because of the encouragement that it would not be that much less durable, attract marks, and be harder to clean. He argues differently. Do you think the matte will be fine on said project?
I’m going to have to go with your boss on this one. If you’re painting something like cabinets or shelving, then they’re likely going to be getting touched a lot and have items place on them. I’d recommend using a hybrid product like Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel from Sherwin Williams or Advance from Benjamin Moore. I’d use either semi-gloss or satin. Those products in those sheens will hold up well to what those surfaces are going be used for.
Such a great review. I always get Emerald just because I’m extra but now I’m super curious to try this and superpaint. I only do DIY and so only paint every so often, but have come to really appreciate the process when I do. The only thing I know for sure is to stick to SW products. I’m sure BM makes great paints but like duration, not sure I’ll get to experience them on my own. I’m sure if I went through thousands of gallons as you have I’d have an opinion on saving $10-20 per gallon, but was afraid to risk being unhappy stepping down. Are there any post application benefits to duration such as ability clean, longevity, touch ups? What is the reason Emerald is considered a “superior” product?
Duration and Emerald both have moisture and mold blocking agents built into them as well as rubberizing agents. This is supposed to make them more wipeable and durable in the long term. That's also affected by the sheen you decide to go with. Over the year's I haven't noticed any big difference between Emerald and Duration. We use both. I will say that Emerald does better with dark colors. It's much less prone to picture framing which we experience sometimes with darker colors with Duration.
@@SuperVassarBrothers To share hands on experience and nuanced observation from the tens of thousands of hours painting with both is simply invaluable advice. It’s very intimidating to walk into sherwin Williams as a DIY’er even though most of their staff is helpful. Im actually done with painting projects for the foreseeable future but still subscribed and running through you catalog. You rock sir!
Hey, Sw manager here. If you haven’t yet, ask your go to store to set up a DIY account. You will get 10% off always on paint and we are always having 20%-35% off sales. If you ask them of upcoming sales they should have access to the month diy sales and can give you a heads up. Thanks for using our paint!
Is this higher end than BM Advance? And what do you think of the advice of painting trim with two coats BM Advance, wet sanding the first coat, then wipe-on poly (Minwax) to protect? Have you heard of something like this?
So this is an older video. Our current go-to trim paint is emerald urethane trim enamel from Sherwin Williams. Here’s a video comparing that to advance is you’re interested: Emerald Urethane VS Benjamin Moore Advance th-cam.com/video/0kdWGKEhXXU/w-d-xo.html In my opinion there’s no reason to poly over advance or most other hybrids. There’s basically poly built into the product. As long as you let the product cure, it’ll will be extremely durable.
Hey boss, Would you say that the Duration Matte is the same sheen as Cashmere Low-Lustre cause I found cashmere Low lustre to be a little too shiny for a step above flat
I would not. Cashmere Low-Lustre is several sheen levels above Duration Matte. It's actually shinier than a traditional eggshell. The Cashmere Flat Enamel is very close to the sheen level of a Duration Matte. It's not a dead flat. The flat enamel has a fair amount of sheen to it.
This video might be helpful: Paint Sheen Differences Explained In 5 Minutes th-cam.com/video/DyKh80Yt9k0/w-d-xo.html Finish paint is the paint that has color / tint in it that goes on after the primer. The finish paint comes on different sheens which will affect how it looks.
Thanks for the video! I have a question, we had a color consultant recommend the same color on our ceilings and walls. Eider White from SW. Should I use matte for both? Flat for ceiling and matte for walls? If I do that, will the ceiling appear darker given the lower sheen? Thanks again!
We like doing flat for ceilings and will use matte or eggshell for walls. The more sheen on the ceiling the more you will see the imperfections. Honestly, its personal preference and if you like the ceilings in matte then go for it! Also if you use the same paint for both walls and ceilings its easier to do because you don't have have a color or paint change between the wall and ceiling line. Good luck!
Did you say lookiee loo? That's awesome. I just bought some of this stuff to match some paint from RH and the matte finish is fantastic. Going to use it for a whole house project.
I’ll be testing that product in the not so distant future and doing a review of it. In general the emerald line is less shiny that’s duration. Emerald matte is less shiny than Duration matte and so forth. I’m going to wager a guess that if you want a finish close to Duration matte then I’d go with Emerald satin. Also, if you ask nicely they can pump those designer colors into duration. I just did that on a job last week 😉
Well definitely don’t use duration interior for exterior work. I don’t use duration exterior so I’m not sure what tip would work. It’ll say on the can.
Thanks Ernesto. We don't use paint from Home Depot or Menards enough to recommend a product. You may want to go with their most popular paint which the guy at the paint desk can help you with. We like Duration matte from Sherwin Williams and Regal Select Eggshell at Benny Moore the best. Good luck!
There’s nothing wrong with either of those products. I know a lot of crews that use them. Here’s what we’re currently using in the field: My New Paint Load Out // 2023 th-cam.com/video/ceynEKT5loc/w-d-xo.html
how's the moisture resistance and washability compared to BM Aura bath and spa. the BM is 100% acrylic which I think helps in durability and moisture resistance. I tried to look it up but can't find out whether Duration is. looks like Solo may be the only line from SW that's 100% acrylic? lastly, what primer do you recommend for bathrooms with humidity. thanks
We like Duration better than Aura. (review or Aura here) th-cam.com/video/4LZBmiasP08h/w-d-xo.htmlttps://th-cam.com/video/4LZBmiasP08/w-d-xo.html. It performs well in moisture and is cleanable. Not a fan of Solo either. For primer we like the multi purpose from Sherwin Williams. We've used a lot of primers in bathrooms and haven't noticed a difference with cheaper ones from Sherwin Williams compared to more expensive ones. You may be fine with their Drywall primer which is less expensive. The topcoat is what matters most. Good luck!
Could I achieve the protection I want in a new bathroom by first priming, then 1st coat with ProMar200, and 2nd coat with Duration Matte or should both coats be Duration?
Jeremy - Thanks for all the reviews and education. Question: I am finishing my basement. Just used kilz drywall primer on bare drywall... then I textured... now I'm trying to get educated on the paint to put on the walls.. and found your videos. We are wanting a simple white, using it for both walls and ceilings.... Will I regret using the duration matte on the ceiling? Seems like the right choice for the wall... but you have recco's for ceiling paints... I have a Graco airless sprayer... and I'm looking for the easy button and just use one type of paint for walls and ceilings... but will I regret having this on the ceiling... it's a walkout basement... and standard basement bedroom with a tray ceiling. Thanks.
Thanks for the feedback Keith. If you do Duration matte on the ceiling it will have a sheen on it and it will show the imperfections much more than a flat paint. For us we do flat on basement ceilings and Duration matte on the walls. If you are looking for the easy button then one paint for both would be easier, which is fine as long as you are okay with the finished look. I would recommend back rolling any walls or ceiling that you spray for the finish coats. All that means is after you spray a wall or ceiling take a 1/2" or 3/8" nap roller and go over it (no dipping roller into paint since you sprayed). That way if you have to touch up anything in the future it will blend in. Good luck my friend.
@@SuperVassarBrothers oh... I had not heard of the back rolling technique. That makes sense because I don't imagine I'll be using a spayer ever again once I install the floors. Thanks for the paint recco... I've been at this project for a bit and just want to finish, hence the easy button... but you're right. I probably should not get lazy and paint with something I might regret. Thanks!
what's the difference between pro mar 200, 400 , emerald and super paint.....also the voc content in these paints is that something people with allergy have noticed?........also in your opinion is it better to use spray vs roller......and if using spray does it need 2 coats or just one ?....the painter im considering is saying he will use spray and without waiting for spray to dry go over it a second time is that how its done ?.....have no dogs or kids ..in las vegas area if you know someone in my area would not mind a recommendation
Promar 200 and 400 are more of a builder's grade or commercial product. They aren't necessarily bad products when used in the proper application, but they are at the lower end of Sherwin William's product offerings. The Emerald and Duration line of paints are the top end line of paints from Sherwin Williams. That's what we use on the walls for the majority of the work that we do. The allergy thing is personal. The majority of the off gassing of the paint happens within the first few hours that it's applied. If you're worried about that, then give it a little while to air out before reentering those areas. There are pros and cons to spraying vs rolling. Both methods can be used to get an excellent finish. That's more on the skill level of the painter. There are crews that are excellent at spraying and some that are excellent at using a brush and roller. There are also painters that suck at both. Just make sure if you go with a painter that is going to spray, that they really tarp off everything. It is very common to get overspray on things that you did not want paint on. That is common to spray a second coat relatively quickly after the first coat goes on. I don't know any crews in Vegas, but good luck with your project!
I'm planning on buying two gallons of the Duration or Emerald (either Satin or Matte) soon for a bedroom and it will be my first time painting. I would like to know which rollers and brushes (size and type) would you recommend using with these paints for the wall, ceiling, trim and bi-fold door? thank you!
For paint we still like the Duration matte the best (looks more like an eggshell). We like the 2.5" corona cortez (angled) or if you have smaller hands the 2.0" corona cortez (angled). You can buy them from Benjamin Moore stores or online. If your shopping at Sherwin Williams you can go for the Purdy 2.5" angled, or Purdy 2.0" angled. Since your a beginner the Purdy White dove 1/2" nap in the 9 inch roller will do you just fine. It doesn't paint as fast as some other rollers, but its easier to work with and rolls smooth. Good luck!
I had bubbles, big ones between the first and second coat. It tightened as it cured and did not get a call back but this is the only paint I've had this issue.
We've had bubbles once in a while and they usually go down. We've had it happen on other paints as well. Hasn't been an issue percentage wise since we've been through well over 1000 gallons. Hope you find something you like.
Emerald matte has become our go-to wall paint. It's much more of an actual matte finish than Duration matte. Here's the review I did of it: th-cam.com/video/4R7K9yZSbpI/w-d-xo.html
What would you recommend for Tricorn Black on a wall? I normally use PM 200 but have never done a color this dark. (I plan to prime it grey either way).
I will add that to the list of products to review. It's a mid level paint from Sherwin Williams. We don't use it because Duration and Emerald are quite a bit better to work with for a variety of reasons. Long story short, Cashmere isn't great, but it's not terrible.
What kind of mold blocking primer do you recommend under this for a shower ceiling and bathroom walls? Is this also ok to use on pre-primed pine shiplap in a bathroom? Thanks!
We use normal drywall primer or latex primer if there is no mold or mildew spots. If mold or mildew we use an oil primer like Kilz or Zinsser BIN shellac. If the shiplap is primed you are good to go with the topcoat of Duration. Good luck!
Thanks David. We think the sheen is a little less and sometimes if you pull tape the emerald matte paint will tear. Doesn't happen much, but we have noticed it. Emerald does cover better than Duration, and is great for deep colors. We'll put that video on the list. Thanks!
Hi Denise. Depends on what your budget is. Super paint satin from Sherwin Williams is a solid performer. If you want more budget friendly paint from Sherwin Williams you may want to try Property solutions in eggshell (close to satin). Here's the link. www.sherwin-williams.com/painting-contractors/products/property-solution-interior-latex I haven't used their eggshell in property solutions but its worth a shot. Good luck!
Most likely you'll be doing three coat with an extreme sheen change. It may be best to prime first. Most latex primers will be fine. We like this one. www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/products/drywall-primer
It's not going to touch up as well as a flat paint. Duration Matte has a decent sheen to it. It's similar to an eggshell finish in some other brands like Benjamin Moore. The finish is more durable than a flat paint, but it won't touch up as easily.
Can't go wrong with either. We had some issues when pulling tape with Emerald where the paint ripped up as well. Only a few times that happened. Both great paints, Duration is our jam tho :)
We use Duration Matte from Sherwin Williams. You can also use Duration Satin if you feel like you need a bit more durability. That can be useful if your bathroom is not vented well. If you want to go with Benjamin Moore, then go with Aura Bath & Spa. Good luck with your ceiling!
As of right now I am not sponsored by any of the companies that I talk about in these videos. If I ever do get a sponsorship then I will disclose it in the video.
If I'm covering a red wall with a light color, do you think it'd be worth it jumping up to Emerald? Or do you think Duration would cover just fine with the same number of coats?
Good observation. Yes I think switching to Emerald would help because it covers better than Duration. I would pick a good primer as well which will make a huge difference. We like this one (its on sale in the US this weekend as well for $38.00) www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/products/premium-wall-wood-primer
Any primer should do. The best primer we know of is Premium Wall & Wood Primer from Sherwin Williams. www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/products/premium-wall-wood-primer
It’s decently wipeable. Keep in mind that any time you scrub a paint finish that it will mar the finish. That’s why they refer to most paints as “wipeable” and not “scrubbable”
So I really like this paint and the emerald. I don’t do a ton of painting so for a few extra bucks a gallon it seems like emerald is worth it. But I actually like using duration better
Thank you for this video. My wife and I have decided to paint our interior with SW Pure White in the Duration line. However we are disagreeing on the sheen I prefer matte on the walls since Pure White is a warmer color, but she wants a satin finish. The interior space is small and gets decent but not great natural lighting, hence why she is insisting the satin. I’m just worried the satin might be too bright for a small space and kill the warm feel I want to achieve. Should I just budge?
Sheen can come down to personal preference. That being said I am not a fan of the satin finish in the Duration line of paint. It's hella shiny. Some folks like that look, and that's totally fine. Generally you will see more imperfections on the walls and it's more prone to showing lap and brush marks than the matte finish. We use Duration Matte on the walls in about 95% of the jobs that we do. It's the sheen that the majority of our clients prefer. As far as the room being too bright, that has more to do with LRV and less to do with sheen. You may find these two videos helpful. Good luck with your project, and it should look good no matter which sheen you go with 😁! th-cam.com/video/DyKh80Yt9k0/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/bWV4ShSLYHo/w-d-xo.html
@@SuperVassarBrothers ever mixed Matte and Satin in the duration line to make a custom sheen? Or even mixed Satin and Flat? I’m curious with the color Greek Villa and maybe going to try it. Maybe a 50/50 mix or maybe 66% matte, 33% Satin.
Emerald is way better.... And this is coming from someone that absolutely loves duration... But it just doesn't get the same quality of finish even on some lighter colors. On high end projects or large walls in general, or dark colors... I automatically go for emerald to save myself the headache. It's just in a league of its own... Just like the emerald trim paint.. Unmatched performance.
I can only speak to my own experience with this paint over the last 8 years or so. In my experience it's not thin and it covers how would expect a higher end interior paint to cover. Much of the time negative reviews of paint are influenced by user error. Roller marks occur when the product is not being applied properly. It is possible that they got a bad batch, which has happened to us also.
You are paying for the name. Richard's Signature Matte has more solids better scrubability. and A lot less expensive. SW is good at marketing paint is average.
Hi Eric & Justeen. We would give Richards a try, but from my web search it looks more regional depending on where you are in the country. I would love to do a comparison one day. Thanks for the recommendation

I have 2 daughters, so sponge baths are out 😂
Anything else besides fans and a dehumidifier that would help with drying and curing?
Thanks for the info. Even though it'd probably make most professionals cringe, I'm going to paint over those ceiling tiles, just to seal in the stains and improve the aesthetics in there. I can't stand looking at it anymore.
Duration cures out quickly. Running a fan is the best move to get things to dry quickly. Emerald matte is also a good choice. My New Paint Load Out // 2023

@@SuperVassarBrothers Great, thanks!
Also my favorite when used for light colors (white base), but not my favorite when using a deep base (dark color). I’ve found the deep base sheen is too high and the coverage is lacking. When I need a deep base color, I upgrade to Emerald.
We had a similar experience. Emerald has become our go-to wall paint over the past year or so.
I agree duration is pretty much my go-to wall paint . Use it alot on exteriors as well
Thanks for the feedback Thomas. We don't use Duration much for exterior, maybe we'll give it try this season.
How does this compare to Cashmere Eggshell?
Is Cashmere eggshell actually satin?
Sw eggshell & satin are interchangeable, i think.
@@SuperVassarBrothers thanks ! Im now torn between emerald matte or duration matte
Do you have videos on the different interior paint lines form Sherwin Williams?
I've reviewed a number of Sherwin Williams products but not a comprehensive overview of their lines of paint. I may make that video in the future.
Here’s a video comparing that to advance is you’re interested: Emerald Urethane VS Benjamin Moore Advance
th-cam.com/video/0kdWGKEhXXU/w-d-xo.html
In my opinion there’s no reason to poly over advance or most other hybrids. There’s basically poly built into the product. As long as you let the product cure, it’ll will be extremely durable.
@@SuperVassarBrothers Thank you for the reply! We loved Aura for exterior walls, so will look at Advance for walls and trim.
The flat enamel has a fair amount of sheen to it.
noob question: is finish its own thing that goes after primary? so prime>color paint>finish?
This video might be helpful: Paint Sheen Differences Explained In 5 Minutes
th-cam.com/video/DyKh80Yt9k0/w-d-xo.html
Finish paint is the paint that has color / tint in it that goes on after the primer.
Good luck!
@@SuperVassarBrothers Thank you for the answer!
Did you say lookiee loo? That's awesome. I just bought some of this stuff to match some paint from RH and the matte finish is fantastic. Going to use it for a whole house project.
Thanks Flippen Dad, glad you like Duration. Pretty sure Shakespeare and Churchill used Lookie Loo in most of their writings and speeches :)
How is Duration Matte for light damp cloth wiping. For instance a child rubbimg hand on wall. Can it be wipped off easily?
It wipes off pretty well.
The color I like is only in emerald designer. How is the flat and satin in comparison to the duration Matte?
I’ll be testing that product in the not so distant future and doing a review of it. In general the emerald line is less shiny that’s duration. Emerald matte is less shiny than Duration matte and so forth. I’m going to wager a guess that if you want a finish close to Duration matte then I’d go with Emerald satin. Also, if you ask nicely they can pump those designer colors into duration. I just did that on a job last week 😉
Cashmere I'm loving for walls duration for the trim
That's a solid combo! I know a lot of guys that like Cashmere.
What do think of super paint from Sherwin-Williams?
It’s a pretty solid mid tier paint from Sherwin Williams. I like it better than cashmere but it’s not as good as Duration or Emerald.
Which tip is best for exterior windows and vinyl for duration paint
Well definitely don’t use duration interior for exterior work. I don’t use duration exterior so I’m not sure what tip would work. It’ll say on the can.
Hello Jeremy, thanks for yours videos. Which paint would You recomend for walls, specifically those sold by Home Depot or Menards ...
Good luck!
Figures, I used Cashmere Low-Lustre and Super Paint. Although I can't complain about either. The Cashemere is nice and buttery smooth.
There’s nothing wrong with either of those products. I know a lot of crews that use them. Here’s what we’re currently using in the field: My New Paint Load Out // 2023

how's the moisture resistance and washability compared to BM Aura bath and spa. the BM is 100% acrylic which I think helps in durability and moisture resistance.
I’d recommend priming then doing 2 coats of duration.
Thanks!
Duration matte better than Benjamin moore regal select egg shell?
I would say yes. Particularly after Benjamin Moore reformulated the select line.
@@SuperVassarBrothersI used emerald matte is was good
what's the difference between pro mar 200, 400 , emerald and super paint.....also the voc content in these paints is that something people with allergy have noticed?........also in your opinion is it better to use spray vs roller......and if using spray does it need 2 coats or just one ?....the painter im considering is saying he will use spray and without waiting for spray to dry go over it a second time is that how its done ?.....have no dogs or kids ..in las vegas area if you know someone in my area would not mind a recommendation
Wouldn't you sand to prevent this
Is the emerald. Interior wall paint matte. Also closer to eggshell. ? Good washabilty?
Emerald matte has become our go-to wall paint. It's much more of an actual matte finish than Duration matte. Here's the review I did of it:

@@SuperVassarBrothers thank you is satin closer to eggshell ?
What would you recommend for Tricorn Black on a wall? I normally use PM 200 but have never done a color this dark. (I plan to prime it grey either way).
Emerald in matte (finish is more like an eggshell). Its expensive but covers great.
Can you do review on the cashmere? Or what are your thoughts about it?
Good luck!
Another great video 📹 love duration!
Thanks for watching Patrick! I've been a big fan of Duration for a while. It's still our main wall paint. 🤙
Can't wait to see the Emerald comparison. Are there negatives to choosing Emerald over Duration besides cost? Thanks
Thanks David. We think the sheen is a little less and sometimes if you pull tape the emerald matte paint will tear. Doesn't happen much, but we have noticed it. Emerald does cover better than Duration, and is great for deep colors. We'll put that video on the list. Thanks!
@@SuperVassarBrothers Thank you, very helpful!

If I'm painting over old existing high gloss paint. Should I do a light sanding beforehand or can I just go on top with the new paint?
Most likely you'll be doing three coat with an extreme sheen change. It may be best to prime first. Most latex primers will be fine. We like this one. www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/products/drywall-primer
Could it be used with a paint sprayer
Yes it can
Is there a dupe for Sherwin Williams Master Hide brand?
haha.
Can I touch up this matte paint over the years just like I could with flat paint?
It's not going to touch up as well as a flat paint. Duration Matte has a decent sheen to it. It's similar to an eggshell finish in some other brands like Benjamin Moore. The finish is more durable than a flat paint, but it won't touch up as easily.
I have duration satin on my walls. Cam I go over it with a matte ? Without sanding or anything ?
Yes you can. I’d recommend doing 2 coats, but you’ll shouldn’t have any issues with adhesion or coverage.

Can't go wrong with either. We had some issues when pulling tape with Emerald where the paint ripped up as well. Only a few times that happened. Both great paints, Duration is our jam tho :)
Which paint do you recommend for bathroom ceilings?
We use Duration Matte from Sherwin Williams. You can also use Duration Satin if you feel like you need a bit more durability. That can be useful if your bathroom is not vented well. If you want to go with Benjamin Moore, then go with Aura Bath & Spa.

You may find these two videos helpful.

so many bad reviews on the SW website about this paint. Watery, very poor coverage because it is so thin, lots of roller marks
