    I got to spend some time with a 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata in Mexico and it was such a blast! This car loves curvy roads and is a great canyon carver and daily driver. The top goes up and down so easily and the interior feels up to par for the price. It is a silly little machine, but I loved it.

    You know the old saying...."it's more fun driving a slow car fast, than a fast car slow"
    Definitely true with the Miata.

    I race motorcycles thru the canyons, I have this 2016 miata, a guy tried to keep up with me
    thru the corners and couldnt. I was only going at 60% also. All the bigger heavier sports cars with more weight and horsepower cannot use it where it counts. Actually their extra weight and horsepower actually get them into sliding rear end situations out of .control
    The light yet great torque this car provides will scare you in the corners. Power to weight is the real deal. Its getting to be quite the replacement to cranking it out on my racebike.
    Test driving will tell you somethings about the car, but after owning itfor a year driving it in our calif canyons, you would be convinced you wont find any sports car out there in this price range that gives you such a thrill. Its stable solid feeling, nothing cheap feeling about this car. ITs tight and precise in all its moves. Remember it isn't world car of the year for nothing

    Wife and I did a five-week trip in our new 2016 Miata last year, down the coast and back up to Canada through New Mex, Colo, Utah and Idaho. It's a little noise (get ear plugs) but otherwise a thrill to drive everywhere. Our two carryons and two day packs and small cooler all squeezed in. Note, the highest temp we encountered was 39C around Bakersfield, and that was pushing the A/C with the top up, as you need it then. It would be warm in there if the temps are up in the 40s.

    I bought my NC Miata a couple months back and I couldn't be any happier. The car is just so easy to drive and it may be just me but it feels a lot more agile compared to the FRS/BRz.

    • @shouldigetit
      @shouldigetit  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The openness and smaller size may make it seem that way, but I agree, my Miata felt more agile than the FR-S which I considered getting before it.

    I really hope the 2017 RF version is out by the end of the year because my current 2013 Miata's lease is up then and if the RF is not here, I will have to get this soft top version... I just love the design of this generation. Though I really do prefer the retractable hard top for security/safety...

    Why does every talk about how it isn’t fast?. Ive destroyed v6 challengers and impalas as well as mustangs. This car is much faster than the credit it receives.

    • @shouldigetit
      @shouldigetit  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because when people talk speed and power they’re usually talking straight line, Highway type roll racing. Through the mountains the Miata has a great shot against a lot of cars.

  • @Lee-70ish
    @Lee-70ish 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Being in the UK we have the 1.5 ltr available which is the power plant the car was designed around and give the 50/50 balance the 2.0 is 80lbs nose heavy but its still a superb car.
    As for cup holders I took them out on day one, IMHO it's a sports car not a vending machine.
    My model is the limited edition Icon model in Mica Grey. (see mazda UK Icon Web site ).
    IMO the engineering design is top line and I am not suprise it won both world and design car of 2016

    • @shouldigetit
      @shouldigetit  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh that is an awesome speck Lee, thank you for watching! I wish we had the 1.5ltr available in the states.

    • @Lee-70ish
      @Lee-70ish 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Should I Get It although its a smaller power plant as you know the fun is in the driving not the straight line performance my brother has the sel nav which is mid priced and the lump revs to 7500 but so freely it asks to be pushed over 5000 the engineers really went to town on the 1.5 but lets face it either the 2 or 1.5 are so much fun to drive ,
      We have some super drivers roads in the UK ideal for the MX5 and my intention is to drive them all then start on the European ones

    • @shouldigetit
      @shouldigetit  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I hope you're able to do all of them with great weather! This car is definitely not about straight line performance and I don't mind that one bit :)

      @mountainbikerpaul2267 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lee, i'm also from the UK and i'm looking to buy mine early part of the new year, not sure weather to get the 1.5 or 2.0, i really like the recaro version mainly as i like the seats, LSD, the side skirts and the bigger wheels, do you know why the 1.5 don't have the LSD, i have been told so many times to make sure i get an mx5 with the LSD, but if its not important to have on the 1.5 then i have more options and could check out some 1.5's, plus its less road tax, its only gonna be a weekend toy, be good to hear back with any advice, thanks, Paul.

    Nice video, i am expecting to buy a miata or a cooper s but i'm not sure which one to choose, I really like the pops and bangs from the mini's exhaust but it is fwd and the Mazda is rwd but the exhaust doesn't sound as good as the mini's, which one would you choose now that you have driven both? keep up the good reviews.

    • @shouldigetit
      @shouldigetit  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +alfredo Sosa oh man that is a tough dilemma. I bought a 91' Miata 2 months ago to have alongside my Mini Cooper S (2015) with 6-speed.
      Do you have cargo needs, care about road noise levels to take to your passenger or love to get sideways? The Miata is much more involving, playful and fun. The Mini sounds great and is pretty damn fast especially with an intake, exhaust and JB4

    • @alfredososa1404
      @alfredososa1404 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Should I Get It, ,Thanks for the reply, I think both have their pros and cons, I might not need the back seats, but they could be useful, I guess I need to test drive both to make a clear choice.

      You wanted a reliable daily and went with a Mini?! Im surprised as I hear so much about how poor Mini's are for reliability. I hope you get an ND!

      Should I Get It Did you buy it brand new or used? I don't have any personal experience with them and I've heard just certain years are bad, but just not something I think of when thinking reliable.

      TheAdventureMiata Brand new. Definitely wouldn't want one out of warranty though. Especially the 2012 or earlier.

      Should I Get It Good timing, I actually just drove the RF hardtop today because why not. It's the perfect car for me, my god. Just a smidge quieter in hardtop, more contained and slightly safer feeling cockpit, but I still squealed the tires around a corner. It needs to come with a stock mini-trailer because 130 litres of boot is no space at all, and I hate that little screen. I'll be trading in my TDI Golf and looking forward to sliding in the snow here.

      Yet in the mountains the average driver will be at similar speeds in both.

    • @111WWEEBB

      Went for a white GT. You know my gut says I should get a club while my girl says leather and heating seats. Well, it's not easy for her to agree on me getting this car, I guess you have to compromise sometime.

    • @shouldigetit
      @shouldigetit  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Heath Li Haha that is worth the compromise! The GT is still a great car, the Club is just nice for sliding since it has the LSD.

    • @Machiyalol
      @Machiyalol 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Should I Get It yes it totally is. And I think I would always be able to upgrade the diff, the brakes and the trims, even with better aftermarket stuff. But the interior, not so much. Well, first things first, gotta keep the lady happy.

    I wanted to get one so bad, but I can get a 370z for 5 grand cheaper, and the Z has a hard top that people won't mess with

    • @shouldigetit
      @shouldigetit  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not many people mess with the softop of this one (the ND), and although the Z has more power the Miata is a ton of fun!

    • @yamabushi_nate7825
      @yamabushi_nate7825 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Had the ND for two months now, not sure what you mean by "mess with" the top. Takes literally two seconds to put up and down. Starting MSRP of the MX5 is ~$25k, the Z is ~$30k. Also the MX5 is a roadster, the Z is a GT car. Not even in the same category of car. I suggest you inform yourself further prior to spending money on anything.

      dark zaku I'm going to college soon with a bunch of drunk idiots, I didn't want someone to piss on it or puke on it or tear it up. Plus I posted on a miata forum and their only advice against people cutting the top open and stealing shit was not having anything in there to steal.

    • @mariokart8054
      @mariokart8054 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      dark zaku I'm getting the Z used too, I can get a 2012 Z with 40K miles for like 20 grand versus having to go with a sport miata at close to 25. You're actually making me consider the miata yet again buddy, it just looks so, so fucking good. Any complaints from you?

    • @yamabushi_nate7825
      @yamabushi_nate7825 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** You can't compare a 4 year old used car to a brand new one on price and call the used car the winner. Obviously it would be cheaper, but I would recommend waiting until after you get a good job after college before buying a new car. That's what I did. Also look at Bluebook and Consumer Reports ratings of cars. the new MX5 is 9.9 out of 10. The Z is like 7.3 or something. I also researched the car and my other options for a year before deciding. Think on it for a long time, like most big decisions. You can find yourself feeling differently after a few months, but if you don't feel differently after 6 months or so then go with that.

  • @gorrilaunit99

    If the car only weighs 2400 lbs and has only 155 hp
    Why does it have 17 inch wheels? The brakes are tiny and larger wheels decreases acceleration and adds weight...

    • @brandondannys-menary3678
      @brandondannys-menary3678 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      well one because it looks good and doesn't really affect much, its not like they are 20s and the breaks are small because this isn't really the sport model, the sport model has brembos and some other stuff

    • @gorrilaunit99
      @gorrilaunit99 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The weird gear head Last name The brembos are tiny too, google it
      the only reason it has 17 inch wheels is for looks
      the sport comes with 16s (the perfect size)

      I had trouble with second gear in both of them. I would grit my teeth when I would shift from 1st to 2nd. I would have to make sure not to shift it to quick. But I would forget and get that little grind. The other gear changes were flawless. Being me. It was enough to turn me off from the car. For anyone wondering. I have been using a gear shift for 40 years. And ride a Ducati daily.
