i am in love with the miata. the entire "i can have fun driving without burning fuel, spending as much as a small house and looking pretentious". it seems like the perfect car for someone like me.
+ImElkay its not. There is no steering feel. Peddles are placed too far to the right and that touchscreen is low-res. The seats are nothing special but not bad. Would question their longevity.
+LiveToRide it would then probably be $45-50k and the MIATA isn't really about power. To each his own but I feel like a lot of people would be pissed if they did give it that much....
what i was thinking is why didn't they just throw a turbo model out there similiar to the speed 3. I love the look of miatas but hate the small amount of horse power. my motorcycle has 155 horse power where the miata has only 167. I guess it's just i am so accustomed to the speed and acceleration of a super-sport motorcycles
As a daily driver: MX5s have steering problems when approaching the owner's work place. The wheels repeatedly avoid those parking lot aprons, causing many drivers to have to circle the city (to confuse the car) and then try again. Also, what you discovered with the washer fluid's delayed entry into your face was a result of the water tension factor, also known as WTF.
I liked that he took the trouble to get a full clone of himself for the early part of the video. If nothing else, you could clearly see that he was so enthusiastic about the car that he was beside himself.
I love your reviews. They are unique from the other review videos out there because you throw in that engineer's viewpoint. I love the facts and details that have me learning new things like talking about gear ratios or weight and balance. Your reviews teach me something I didnt already know:)
+Marcos Cruz I don't quite understand why so many newer cars have to have these angry, scowling front ends. At least Mazda still remembers the idea of just having fun.
+greg raines I don't like the catfish look, and would like to see the Fiat 124 road test and durability. The Japanese have some front fascia that reduces the look, but it could be a while before someone tries to reengineer Miata slant eyes to something less slit-like. Otherwise I want one now.
Just now watching this and it's another great Miata video! Super informational and all the things you discuss about it's different approach totally make sense. Gah I really wanna drive one!
+subaruwrxfan Man, I seriously haven't been so excited to just drive each day than when this thing was parked out front. The saying about driving a slow car fast applies perfectly to this car. It's just stupid fun. Always in control, safe limits, easy to push. I love it.
Your review was spot on. I just drove a 2016 MX5 manual today and had the same driving impression. I've owned M3's and a C6 Corvette and the Miata was incredibly fun by comparison.
Your editing is getting better and it seems like you have yourself a small little route to do all your reviews in. You're now my favorite car reviewer on youtube! Also, how many hats can I fit in the trunk?
+Engineering Explained No, Thank you. Your reviews are great. And that is coming from a performance engineer who works for one of the 3 big OEMs in the US. It is very refreshing to watch a review from someone who fundamentally knows that they are talking about - instead of overwhelming you with metaphors and fluff. Thanks.
+MrZz108 I appreciate hearing that! I worked in a metaphor this time - appealed to the masses, got the hook, then force fed engineering insight. If the performance cars of your OEM aren't on my channel, shoot a good word in for me. ;) Chances are I've spoken with the PR folks there, and often based on my location it's not always feasible, but it could always help. And congrats to you on your position! I applied to Ford when I graduated from college, but they never replied in any fashion. It's a tough world to get involved in, well done!
This is my dream car as well. I own a 2014 Mazda6 GT and its so responsive it feels like an extension of myself, its not the fast car but the torque is always available with the aggressive gearing i love it. I can't wait til i can get my own Miata, i hope combustion engine never go away it will be the day the true drivers car dies.
I don't know why these cars get such a "girly" persona. Literally every reviewer I've seen that has gotten into a Miata has absolutely loved the experience.
Arthur Houchin cos usually u have to at least point out a few downside of a car. Being girly is the only downside (a subjective one) I see in this car LOL
I'd say it's the styling. Sleekness in an automobile can be a deterrent to men at a certain point. Also, I commented to follow the monthly trend. Happy New Years!
but then porsches are sleek too. But all the boys love porsches. i think sleek just equals a more classy design, not girly. I think its more the body general shape being really small? idk how women think,
Excellent review, again! I too have test driven a 2016 MX5, and everything that was said in this video, I do agree with. However, I am only 5'10" tall. My knees do not make contact with the steering wheel. I love the old MX5s, each and every year, but this new 2016 is definitely the best of them all!
I don't have a miata...I have a2012 Mazda 2 (Demio) but I really understand what he claims... I'm an an engineer and I am really amazed with Mazda cars: they are not the best cars in absolute terms maybe, but of you look at these cars from an engineering point of view you will notice how the come up with many trade offs giving you a reliable, fun to drive, efficient (!) well thought and practical end even well made car ( specially speaking about new mazda 2 ,3 6 and so on). Well done Mazda!
I also love the weight reduction philosophy for fun driving cars. Personally, I'd love to see something like the Ariel Nomad put into production at an affordable price with a daily commute / weekend off road warrior design. Maybe you could get your hands on one of those to test? :)
I think it's amazing that 25 years later Mazda has not lost the spirit of the original Miata and made it a bloated "sports car". I love the styling of this car, and though I haven't been able to drive one yet, this seems to be a phenomenal car. I would really love to pick one up as a second "fun" weekend car when the time comes that I can afford it. Mazda in general has been putting out some fantastic cars lately. Also Jason, I'm liking the new structure/editing you're doing with the videos, it makes it more interesting and looks more polished/professional. Nice work!
Your analogy about the cheap wine and chemical reaction is exactly right. I had a S2000 and a Corvette. The S2000 was less than half the price and for me was more fun to drive. The corvette was all powerful and sounded great but it was overkill. My next weekend car will be the 2017 MX5-RF.
I love how precise and technical you are with you specs and information. Even though I may hate to hear some of it (for instance, the 2015 sit drawback vid). However, I am a very factual person, and I want to know the exact numbers and you provide them in a very informative and educated manner. Keep it up my friend. Great vids.
+Jose I. Urriza I think so, yes. The S2000 has a better steering feel and better shifting feel, but overall I'd say the MX-5's 500 lb weight advantage makes it more fun to thrash.
personally i think s2000 is way better i would prefer the s2000 .. although i can see that they improve so much the miata i might say this car has the same spec as a s2000 i dont know if i am wrong but i think its similar to it for example the engine ,chassis ,weight distribution, high compression ratio and so on and dont forget you can pick the ap2 if you want more torque ..
Very enjoyable review, articulate and not too technical, you focused on the driving experience ,which I liked, and delivered with such enthusiasm, which I completely share about this amazing exciting, beautiful car .
1. Where I live it rains consistently nine months out of the year. 2. It'd be a daily but I have no significant other, kids or the like. 3. The most this thing would need to haul would be the occasional Costco load; but I only buy for myself so it's fairly light. 4. I live in a secluded, hilly area, twisty roads and undulating road surfaces (kinda like they just paved right over mother nature). I'm torn between this and the BRZ. I've dealt with Subaru before; amazing customer service, attentive staff at the dealership without being pushy, and they display a willingness to WANT to work with you. I don't know about Mazda; I've heard good things but have no first hand experience. What should I do guys?
+Garrett Bradley Dat body roll d'o. I like them both. I'm gonna have to quit dicking around a take some test drives. The Miata isn't faster overall; it's got acceleration in spades (Ironic because this is a club). The BRZ has more top end. Wheelbase, weight, and transference of mass (pitch/roll) have more to do with handling than most V8-tards would like to admit; outside of highway travel I don't have anywhere in my immediate vicinity I can go like a bat outta hell in a straight line. Thus my quandary. The biggest issue I have with the new MX-5 is current lack of aftermarket goodies (outside of lowering options and wheels); I'm sure SEMA will rectify that though.
+Edster The Man I think the biggest reason I'm dragging my feet it; I live in northern Oregon. In winter, it's wet, nasty, windy, biting and balls friggin cold. I need to be convinced that a convertible (pervertable) would work out okay, lol. there's no denying they styling (of the ND anyways) is gorgeous. There's another thing. I'm 5'8" a little over two hundred lbs (closer to 210). I've a 30" inseam, 42" waist and 40" chest (I'm flat and wide, lol). The nearest Mazda dealer is a 40 minute drive away. I can't just go see if I fit; as much as I'd like to, lol
+Engineering Explained Please drive an S2000... It truly is amazing.. I think if you loved the Miata, you will enjoy the S2000 much more. It's a really raw experience and you feel completely in control of what the car is doing directly rather than electrics doing it for you..
It's crazy. Both you and 2theredline do such an amazing job at reviewing cars compared to official sites like Edmunds or KBB. Like, I don't click on a car review to hear a voiceover of some guy reading stupid facts off a window sticker with some exterior car shots spliced in the background. When I watch a car review, I want to see somebody IN the driver's seat, taking it out on the road and discussing their thoughts and impressions on the vehicle. I want to hear about the steering feel/responsiveness, the feedback from the road, the responsiveness from the pedals, and just overall how the car performs and responds in everyday driving situations, not to hear about things I could find out from a quick Google search. I look forward to watching your reviews as I always feel like an expert on the car after I've finished watching it. Keep up the great work.
+Engineering Explained I was wondering what your degree is in and where you obtained it? I would like to go to Auburn for some sort of engineering but I would love it to be automobile focused like yours :) Any tips for a young 'un?
+REALSLOWWW Because the 400HP semi has 1500ft/lbs of torque or more, vs a 400HP V8 has around 400ft/lbs of torque. Unless you like slipping the clutch all the time, you need the torque to get the load moving.
That's the thing with peak power output numbers... See, a 200HP Engine could move 50 tons, the problem is gearing. But it would be nowhere near as convienient like with the semi. The gearbox basically divides power in Torque and logitudinal speed. Within a constant power output, the more torque you have, the less speed you get. It's only a matter of the gearing ratio. And finally, when you compare the power curves of those engines, youll probably see less power in the high-rpm-engine than in a semi - power which could deliver the acceleration force you need, even in low rpm...
Eh. 2-3 years ago people said the same thing about how game-changing the BRZ/FRS was. While it certainly lived up to that, today they're a dime a dozen on craigslist and everybody has moved on. And now a new miata with even less utility? If you're watching this and seriously consider one, wait 2 years for hype to die and buy a used one from somebody who already ate the massive depreciation (it will also be low mileage because s/he couldn't even drive it to the grocery store).
You can certainly drive it to the grocery store, I did multiple times. It has enough space for two people and a low packed weekend, but that's about it. Buying a used car is certainly a way to save money.
Yep. I'm holding out to find one of those "baby on the way", "wife is making me sell my toys" ads in a year or two. Then I'll pick me up an ND Club manual soft top for good money. Even now there are already some hitting the market for decent money.
It’s sad that some people sees these cars as a lady car. The same story goes to the old porsche boxsters. Both are such great cars, light and well balanced.
A used Miata, a brz/frs/gt86 (starting to pop up under ten grand commonly now), an e36/46 325i coupe. You could get an awd dsm but I had tons of reliability issues with both my Eclipses.
+es3502012 Fiesta is a European car brought to America. Not American... though the brand may be. FWD is like go-kart responsive steering which can be just as fun. What I mean by that is you turn the wheel and you are going that direction instantly. On very tight roads with many turns you can easily have just as much if not more fun in a FWD. It doesn't have to drift to be fun. I don't know who/what put that in peoples heads. It's why hot-hatchbacks are so popular.
Tiny Turbo bro plz, the car was brought into America in the 70s, sure. But are you trying to tell me that a bunch of Europeans developed the current gen car? Americans puts no engineering into the car's suspension, chassis or whatever. There is just no way the Fiesta could match the Miata interms of engineering/fun. The Miata's 50/50 weight distribution provides the balance that could kill the Fiesta
Totally agree with you! I have a new Bullitt Mustang and a 2008 Miata PRHT. Guess which one is more fun to drive? That’s right... the Miata. It was $10k. The Mustang Bullitt was about $50k. Money spent was not related to the fun factor here. The Miata is addictive. It’s my daily driver and the Bullitt has become more of a garage Queen!
Just like everything ever, if you looked up the cost to make everything then look at the sales price you will no longer want to pay full price for anything lol
My first car ever was a hand me down Miata. It wasn't fast but it felt fast because of its light weight. I fell in love with it. I really like the new model. I want to get one.
ive driven many, many cars in my life (yes yes including ferraris, Lotus, GTRs, M3/M4s etc)...and the Little MX5 is still my favorite..specially this new one...and ive only had it for about an hour from a Mazda dealer...love it
i drove the lastest Elise CR...dont get me wrong it was a great car, superb! the feel of it is unique and you cant really compare it to almost anything else...but then you take an mx5 for a spin a have a feel of it, and then you take a look at the price of the Lotus, and the story is over...(and the mx5 feels a LOT faster then the Lotus on the straights)
Your personal style of tech info and real-world commentary is helping me to decide between a Fiesta ST3 and - perhaps surprisingly - the 1:5Lt, Sport, MX5. Not only does it weigh in at a mere 970ish Kg but here in the UK petrol is rippoffingly expensive, 60+% tax and the ST3 can be a bit thirsty if driven with some gusto, "35 mpg" imperial. Also, it's seat's can feel "over bolstered" to some. What a happy purchasing predicament.
Engineering Explained The standard Jag type F is a beautiful solid car, but I'm going for the lighter and less expensive Mazda RF. Hopefully I won't regret this new vs used Boxster. At 6'2+, I hope my experience in the soft top will bear out. The Miata has an Italian driver position, so long legs are not so much penalized as a long spine that will bring up your head height. Otherwise, sliding the seat back drops you lower. The styling comparisons here to the old Vettes, Opal Manta and Triumph Spitfire are correct. Do you think different grades of premium gas +/- 10% ethanol would have much effect on your speed trials?
Great video, Jason! I've been a long time subscriber on your channel and I really mean it when I say that your enthusiasm for this car made for a great video. Keep up the great work!
Love this car. Great review. Really hope more sports cars cut weight like this although Mazda over engineered this car which is why i love them. They have a torque tube on the drivetrain and forged aluminum on all the suspension. Just amazing and deserves praise. Wish they would build a rwd sedan as i need a back seat.
My personal experience with an NA was that it was extremely durable, too. Rotors and a clutch were the only major repairs in 140K miles. I got an ND and I expect the same.
Most of your commentary could have applied to every generation of the Miata thus far. They have always been about the enjoyment of driving and with a fairly compliant suspension that results in fairly high handling, but not ridiculous handling limits and more sensory experience from ease of driving than raw horsepower. 0 - 60 in 7 seconds for the NC, or mid-6 seconds for the ND is more than capable enough for a street car. With that said, the good news about any generation Miata is that there is a robust enthusiast marketplace where stiffer suspensions are only a $1,500 coilover kit away, or $4,000 for a fully sorted turbocharger/supercharger install to get acceleration on par with some very expensive machinery. thanks for the video, glad you liked the car. I've been a fan for years, though the NC I currently have isn't anywhere near worth replacing for the ND... maybe when the ND2 comes out, invariably first gen Miatas have a few teething problems that get sorted out pretty quickly.
I love this car. I had a 1996 for 16 yrs......the very best, and most fun you can have.....without spending over 32k. If anyone is on the fence, just rent one for a weekend....or like me, just go but one....don't listen to anyone say how small it is...just do it! I can't wait to buy my next one! And yes, I'll keep it until the wheels fall off!!! ZOOM ZOOM
Taking nothing away from the iconic miata, but buy a used Honda S2000. Light weight, rwd, more power, good on gas also, looks great even by todays standards, leather interior, and use the $15,000 you save to pay bills. :) just my two cents. Great videos, keep up the good work!!!
+Slade Renegade As much as I like the S2000, it's hard to remove 500lbs from it and keep it somewhat usable. Still a forged engine and 9000rpm is hard to beat.
Very good review. I just love my 2011 mx5 kendo, nc2 2lt. Its a riot. Make me smile every day, what a car... oh and no stress... liked and subscribed. John
I once drove a Mazdaspeed miata, the only factory turbo of the Miatas. By far the greatest car I ever drove. It's a shame they're so rare but unbelievably good.
i am in love with the miata. the entire "i can have fun driving without burning fuel, spending as much as a small house and looking pretentious". it seems like the perfect car for someone like me.
I own a 99 MIATA and if it's anything like mine get one immediately xD
+ImElkay its not. There is no steering feel. Peddles are placed too far to the right and that touchscreen is low-res. The seats are nothing special but not bad. Would question their longevity.
+Murray Kitson i think its under powered it should have like 250 hp IMO if it did this car would be fantastic,
+LiveToRide it would then probably be $45-50k and the MIATA isn't really about power.
It's cool how much weight they have saved while keeping the modern look.

+Minnesnowtan that was probably the best comment I've read in a month so bravo
LOL
Hahaha
I love your reviews. They are unique from the other review videos out there because you throw in that engineer's viewpoint. I love the facts and details that have me learning new things like talking about gear ratios or weight and balance. Your reviews teach me something I didnt already know:)
+Victor Marshall very happy to hear it!
You can also read the Mazda advertising brochure...
dont even have to watch it, not missing anything but talking head lol
EE vids always give more than subjective points. I love the details and numbers. Spot on.
plus it actually looks nice.
Hey now. Not all cars need to look aggressive and mean.
+Marcos Cruz I don't quite understand why so many newer cars have to have these angry, scowling front ends. At least Mazda still remembers the idea of just having fun.
+greg raines Its because Miatas are always happy!
+greg raines
I don't like the catfish look, and would like to see the Fiat 124 road test and durability. The Japanese have some front fascia that reduces the look, but it could be a while before someone tries to reengineer Miata slant eyes to something less slit-like. Otherwise I want one now.

Just check out what Toyota did with the Corolla. Dear God...
The last test was the most important. I am explainly satisfied.
I’ve had mine for 4 years, and it has been my daily drive. I absolutely love it. It’s so good, my son bought the same car.
Just now watching this and it's another great Miata video! Super informational and all the things you discuss about it's different approach totally make sense. Gah I really wanna drive one!

Sounds like a future weekend car for you Jason!
I just bought my kid a 2017 MX-5 for his 19th birthday. The car is waiting for him in a friends garaje, it is going to be a nice surprise!

Congratulations on not picking a Z 28!
Great pick! I wish my parents bought my Miata for me! Lol
Are you adopting?
Absolutely blown away by how your production value has shot up! Great review for the miata.
Thank you!!
Your review was spot on. I just drove a 2016 MX5 manual today and had the same driving impression. I've owned M3's and a C6 Corvette and the Miata was incredibly fun by comparison.
Talking to your "twin" was great!
that was awesome!
+TH-cam Aneesh Haha thank you! Those 30 seconds took a lot of time to create.
I REALLY want one as my next vehicle. Fuel economy of a mazda 3 combined with great overall performance.
And not to mention they aren't ugly as shart lol
And dont forget the most important thing... ITS A MIATA!!!!!!
Your editing is getting better and it seems like you have yourself a small little route to do all your reviews in. You're now my favorite car reviewer on youtube! Also, how many hats can I fit in the trunk?

There is a reason why Miata has been named roadster of a year for at least 10 years in a row
+KulinBan777 Also because there are pretty much no other roadsters
+Ceazar Carr s2000 there's many of them.
Screamin Miata Not in production for 7 years
Z4? TT?

This video ages like a $10 wine. Always great
loving the way the channel and your presentation style is evolving! keep up the great content!
You made me consider about this car, I love it without testing it! Every review in youtube talks about how fun this car! Soon will check on it
Great review! Very unbiased and detailed. Keep up the good work.
I love my 2017 GT with club modification. This was going to be my weekend car, but is so much fun it’s turned into my daily!
Great job regarding a great car. My problem, with my bad back, once i'd get in I may never be able to get out. I guess that's not all bad.
+Gabe Pettinicchio In Oregon they pump gas for you! You can just keep driving. :)
+Engineering Explained Ok, I'll ask my wife! ;)
Jacob Walls Huh?
+Jacob Walls We are joking. Go back to my 1st post. Guess it wasn't very funny. :(
+Engineering Explained I guess we should all drive to Oregon for gas. So much convenience!
Just picked up a 2016 Miata GT. So far it's been a fun commute to work!
I also tested to drive Mazda MX-5. It's not high power car. But very fun to drive.
I want one as second car.
I purchased an arctic white model 2 months ago. I love it. You can drive the speed limit and still have fun.
I also love the weight reduction philosophy for fun driving cars. Personally, I'd love to see something like the Ariel Nomad put into production at an affordable price with a daily commute / weekend off road warrior design. Maybe you could get your hands on one of those to test? :)

Thank you for the production comments! Doing my best as someone with little knowledge (and zero budget) of the world of video production.
Look at him. Being in love and everything. xD
They took it away from me... :(
Engineering Explained Awwwww, get yourself one!!! XD
@@seb5945 I guess he listened
@@bobkermit3452 Hahahaha, took him only four years! XD
My C3 Corvette had those hammock seats, very comfortable. Man, you are making me want one of these.
You just can't drive a Miata without smiling!!
i agree with you, nothing will ever beat a small and light fr sports car!
this was great lol. I liked the doppelganger part👍🚘
Do a video on the 2019 Miata with the higher redline and HP!
I remember the first time I drove a Miata. Realizing how fun something can be in an inexpensive package.
Can't wait till turbos come out for this ND Miata.
Devonte Murray It's called Fiat 124
I love how precise and technical you are with you specs and information. Even though I may hate to hear some of it (for instance, the 2015 sit drawback vid). No telescoping wheel is unheard of today. That could be a deal killer for people who need it to fit. I'm surprised they left that out.
Disappointing indeed. The 370Z also has no telescoping. For drivers cars it's a shame.
I had a chance to drive one of these at launch and was very impressed with the fun to drive factor. Awesome car!
Is this more fun to drive than the s2000? I'm really intrigued. Those are the two cars I would consider getting next.
+Jose I. Urriza I think so, yes. The S2000 has a better steering feel and better shifting feel, but overall I'd say the MX-5's 500 lb weight advantage makes it more fun to thrash.
Thanks!
personally i think s2000 is way better i would prefer the s2000 .. although i can see that they improve so much the miata i might say this car has the same spec as a s2000 i dont know if i am wrong but i think its similar to it for example the engine ,chassis ,weight distribution, high compression ratio and so on and dont forget you can pick the ap2 if you want more torque ..
It's so much fun that I crashed and sold my 95 NA and plan on getting a 2012 NC.
only the club version comes with LSD?
BRZ, mx5 pretty much only if you want the convertible option
The Miata is faster
+Garrett Bradley
Dat body roll d'o.
+Edster The Man
I think the biggest reason I'm dragging my feet it; I live in northern Oregon.
+Johnny Keller Motor Trend tested them both, Miata was faster 0-60 and at the 1/4 mile. And on the circuit. Miata beat it in every parameter.
I've watched tons of the new Mazda videos but yours was the best. Thank you!!! I have finally made my mind up and this is the one!!!
I completely agree this is the *second* best driver's car under $50K, just below the S2000 ;-)
Haha haven't driven the S2K! But I suppose I'm referencing currently produced new cars. There's a massive used market under $50k.
+Engineering Explained Please drive an S2000... It truly is amazing.. I think if you loved the Miata, you will enjoy the S2000 much more. It's a really raw experience and you feel completely in control of what the car is doing directly rather than electrics doing it for you..
Amen! (especially the AP1, the proper one). I live in Indianapolis, so if you're ever here, I'll happily let you drive mine, Engineering Explained.
+Engineering Explained You can take my AP1 out for a spin if you're ever in the bay area. I'll even help you look for one to add to your garage. ;)
Make an explanation vid on SLIPSTREAMS/ovetakes please (in Formula 1...). Awesome vid as always.
The most informative video on the Miata I've come across. I do own one and it's nice to hear and see what you have to say about it. Well done guys.
WEIGHT REDUCTION BRO TRACK DAY BRO POUNDS OFF BRO ALUMINUM FIBER BRO
+coscorrodrift By the way, great video! Each review is better than the previous one, your editing is on point!
+coscorrodrift thank you thank you thank you!!
I absolutely miss my 99 Miata! Your review is awesome!
I love how everyone smiles and laughs when driving this true sports car. Says it all.
It’s sad that some people sees these cars as a lady car. The same story goes to the old porsche boxsters. Both are such great cars, light and well balanced.
Sad for them, maybe
Looks like you had fun Driving the Miata MX-5 ! Thanks for the review.
Joe
What's a good used alternative for someone on a budget?
a used car.
A used Miata, a brz/frs/gt86 (starting to pop up under ten grand commonly now), an e36/46 325i coupe. You could get an awd dsm but I had tons of reliability issues with both my Eclipses.
+FerpiliciousProducts Consider is300
+Robert Trujillo good one there. Always forget the Lexus'. Also if you're okay with fwd Jarl Ballin' then a nissan altima seR is an alright car.
I bought a Pontiac Solstice several years ago for 10k, it's not an every day car but it's great for weekend drives and autocross
Jason, as usual I really appreciate your videos here. Thanks for posting.
44 mpg? So this is more economical than the corolla. :)
Cargolplex Funny I just traded my corolla for one of these
Fantastic review and amazing car! I'm very happy with my new Mazda 3 too, they're doing a good job.
Wish they made a coupe
Anthony C They have. The Miata RF.
thank you for bringing back the old style with a twist
More fun than a Fiesta?
+Carlos Way more, take a look under the car you would know. RWD beats FWD thats common sense, and Japanese beats American.
+Tiny Turbo On really tight turns, understeer kicks in for a FWD car vs oversteer for RWD car. Understeer isn't as much fun as oversteer IMO.
The Miata's 50/50 weight distribution provides the balance that could kill
the Fiesta
+Tiny Turbo turn the wheel and the miata instantly turns. thats what made me fall in love with my NA. more than my rx7s or other cars.
I have never seen him this happy on his other videos.
0:56-1:23 HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!
He has a twin brother. xD

+Jinsung Kim editing
+Slothonaut Oh really? I had NO IDEA!? IT was editing????
I really enjoyed your review. I purchased a mx5 just like the one you used for your reviews. And love it!
i want the 1.5 liter in the us
Totally agree with you! I have a new Bullitt Mustang and a 2008 Miata PRHT. Guess which one is more fun to drive? That’s right... the Miata. It was $10k. The Mustang Bullitt was about $50k. Money spent was not related to the fun factor here. The Miata is addictive. It’s my daily driver and the Bullitt has become more of a garage Queen!
uh ho uh ho ooo god
Really like the shots and the conversations with yourself, very funny / cool concept
Overpriced
+Anthony C Compared to ...?
+Anthony C price hasnt changed at all in 25 years if you adjust for inflation
+Anthony C where do you get more fun for less money?
Just like everything ever, if you looked up the cost to make everything then look at the sales price you will no longer want to pay full price for anything lol
In my opinion it's the best performance car for that money.
This is probably your best video yet.
Keep up the good work. :)
Thank you!!
My first car ever was a hand me down Miata. It wasn't fast but it felt fast because of its light weight. I fell in love with it. I really like the new model. I want to get one.
Man, I love Miatas! I drive a 1995 Miata and I want this car so bad!!
I loved my old NA miata, I'd really like to drive one of these ND models. Great review!
I have a 99 Nb and I must say the seats are AMAZING!! If I could put those seats in every car I own (I have 6) I would!! They ROCK!!
Nice to see how you improve from review to review, im starting to really like your reviews, big thumbs up :)
ive driven many, many cars in my life (yes yes including ferraris, Lotus, GTRs, M3/M4s etc)...and the Little MX5 is still my favorite..specially this new one...and ive only had it for about an hour from a Mazda dealer...love it
i drove the lastest Elise CR...dont get me wrong it was a great car, superb! the feel of it is unique and you cant really compare it to almost anything else...but then you take an mx5 for a spin a have a feel of it, and then you take a look at the price of the Lotus, and the story is over...(and the mx5 feels a LOT faster then the Lotus on the straights)
I would maintain that this is one of the most fun cars to drive above 50K too! Great video -- thanks!
The Jaguar F-Type R says no haha. I'm in love with that car as well, but don't have a spare $125K.
Engineering Explained
The standard Jag type F is a beautiful solid car, but I'm going for the lighter and less expensive Mazda RF.
I'll admit, you're getting better at this whole review business.
+Kevin Christiansen Haha thanks for (apparently reluctantly) continuing to follow. :)
Really love youre channel the way you explain stuff is well thought out even though im not a engineer i can understand as a technician.
Great video, Jason! I've been a long time subscriber on your channel and I really mean it when I say that your enthusiasm for this car made for a great video. Keep up the great work!
you are getting really good at this !
Great review. Kudos. Only problem is deciding between that modern excellence and the vintage charm of a Miata with pop-up headlights...
I love the review Jason, awesome job!
ZOOM ZOOM
I learned how to drive a manual on a 98 Miata. Super fun cars.
I so want one of these! It's the Spitfire Triumph wish they'd built; I think that's the comparison which should be made.
great editing jason!
Great review mate! Quite exciting one :). Keep up the good work
loving the video man. great work
Taking nothing away from the iconic miata, but buy a used Honda S2000.
Not a car for tall people. The Miata goes to 6'3".
