I think the reason why the PS4 is still considered good in 2023, not due to how future proof the console itself was, but how little the current generation has done to provide new experiences in games, other than the higher resolution/ higher frame rate bumps.

The last game I played, Thief, (2014) felt pretty good on my Xbox One S, which of course is an even weaker machine, but apart from some noticeable loading times I don't really have much to complain about. Thank you for your suggestion. I bought a ps4 not long ago. After playing it, I felt that the experience was very good. Of course, I also played ps5 before this, but the current exclusive games of ps5 did not particularly attract me. Because I bought a second-hand ps4, the price is much less than that of a ps5, and the money I saved allowed me to buy more of my favorite games. To sum up, I think if you are price-sensitive, and PS5 games do not attract you much, and you do not have particularly high fluency requirements for the game, you can actually buy it. If you are very pursuing gaming experience and are not short of money, you can choose ps5. ps5 has optimizations for ps4 games, such as: Ghost of Tsushima's frame rate optimization and Bloodborne's loading speed optimization. I think my favorite Sony consuls are PS2 and PS3 the PS3 is one of the greatest consuls because if you have a first generation PS3 you can play PS1 PS2 and PS3 games. I still own a game cube which has an amazing library of games. And I own a PS4. Realistically speaking if you have a first generation PS3 and PS4 just wait until the PS5 drops in price. Are used to have the halo edition Xbox 360 but when my house got broken into that was taken from me. Still a very tough loss till this day

PS4 was such a highlight for me, I absolutely loved the console coming from Xbox 360. However, Sony's attitude toward consumers and the look and feel of the PS5 (Love the DS4, absolutely despise the Dual Sense) made me switch to Series X as my main console this gen. I use the PS5 for exclusives like Ratchet and FF16 and Series X for everything else. As a very aware consumer, I'm a little confused as to why most are choosing PS5 over Series X (maybe because Xbox One was such a letdown), but as a gamer, you really can't go wrong with either, they are great consoles with great games, UIs and features. Great video!

I sold the PS5 to my brother because the controller was literally destroying my hands! There is a design flaw with the Dual Sense. Then I went back to the PS4 and the PS4 controller and it was night and day of a difference, super comfortable.

The truth is the ps5 is unique in its style coupled with great exclusives of course it’s going to sell better than Xbox all day yes the Xbox is more powerful but by how much not enough to garner people towards it people want good games good performance which the ps5 provides very well Xbox live is no different from ps plus and majority of people only ever play a few games throughout the console life cycle and playing older games is not a big selling point believe it or not

I enjoy buying physical Japanese 2D Shmups and Fighters from PlayAsia since the Pro is region free. I’ll be waiting for the PS5 Pro and the next Switch before I make a new purchase. Lastly, the PS4 Pro/PS4 may be the best all around system ever for its vast collection of AAA 3D games as well as Retro 2D sprite based games which I still enjoy to this day. BTW I upgraded from the HDD to a 2TB Samsung SSD and all I can say is Wowww.

We lived with these consoles for years and thought they were the pinnacle, that generation's masterpieces don't stop being so because of a calendar change.
Gaming has largely being solved with the PS4/X1 generation from controls schemes to other minutae, they really perfected things, I'm not saying it was the best gen ever for creativity even but there is nothing wildly innovative this gen (in the sense I've never seen that before) aside from Microsoft Flight Simulator.
I never thought I'd play games that looked as good as RE2 Remake or FFVII Remake. I'm still wowed everyday with how good games look, the mind-blowing levels involved and I find it hard to complain about Devs ripping people off.
Maybe AI development of levels and missions dialogue is the next final frontier.
Hell Breath of the Wild feels like a game sent back in time from 2030.

Load times improve significantly with an SSD as well as texture pop-in, and potentially even smoothness during gameplay... Plus it makes the UI even faster. I love doing remote play with my PSVita @ night before going to bed... it's an amazing console to pair with my long time fav, the PSVita. Wish I could've afforded it many years ago, but so glad I got one now. It's really awesome that all the same games are coming out for PS4 as well as PS5. Kinda reminds me of the early PS2/PS3 days. Lots of shared games/ports between those two in the beginning. I hope the PS5 does well but I do really love the cross-compatibility between consoles. Graphics are crazy good on each one tbh!

I have pretty top end PC and am happy to waiting for PC releases for the time being. I am picking up a PS4 in 2024 because:
    1. As a collector I want to preserve a boxed unit.
    2. Want to pick up cheap physicals.
    3. Consoles to me are like a time capsule for particular moment in time.
The hardware and, even firmware to an extent, are like fixed points in time, whereas a PC is not. Granted, I have keen interest in graphics technology, so I may get more of a kick out seeing a game run on older hardware. Context is key. I can max out a game from 2014 on my PC and yeah it might look really nice and be really smooth but it is not "impressive". Playing it on a like launch a PS4 is more impressive because, subconsciously, you know the hardware is 10 years older and different to that of the current era and it can be very fun. It can really take you back.

Last month I bought a PS4 Pro for €115,-. First thing I did was clean the system and added new thermal paste so it runs like a new system. I bought a SSD to replace the original HDD.
This solved some negative points you mentioned, faster loading times, not as fast as the PS5 but it's getting close. Also the textures are loading way faster in games, so no blurry textures popping in the screen.
I still own a Switch and a PS3 system I bought in 2013 and have a backlog of about 86 games. I'm a generation behind in gaming but it feel different to me and I'm enjoying it big time.
