  • I've recently gone on a vacation and it was the perfect time to bring out my old PS4 Pro, a last gen console with a fantastic library of games, but with a massive speed disadvantage and varying levels of performance for some of the biggest games out there. How does it fare in 2023, are cross-generation games still running at a decently acceptable performance level, and what does the future hold for not just the PS4, but other last gen systems as well? Find out in this video! Also as a heads up, I apologise for some of the camera footage and audio being a bit rusty.
    0:00 - Intro
2:32 - History and Overview of the PS4/Pro
5:45 - Cross Generation Game Analysis
    6:12 - Street Fighter 6
    9:36 - Gran Turismo 7
    11:14 - Sonic Frontiers

    16:24 - Guilty Gear Strive
17:10 - Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania
    18:02 - Redout 2
19:19 - What was my experience like?
20:33 - What does the future hold for the PS4?

Ps4 pro is still a good machine. Learn how to clean it , there is a video on TH-cam showing how to take it apart and change the paste. Put a ssd in it and it's an awesome machine, I am buying ps4 games in the sales for dirt cheap . I also use the 4k gamer pro to make it look propper 4k.

@@thagrindtony I output 4k from the console , downscale it using a HDMI splitter to 1080p then put that through the 4k gamer pro and there is a big improvement on my 4k gaming monitor. Even though it being downscaled the 4k information is still present in the signal so the 4k gamer pro is making improvements to the 4k information. Things look super clean and sharp, it's like every game I have had a free next gen upgrade.

Just got a PS4 slim last week, one that finally works at least. I am primarily a PC/Switch player. PS4 games in my area on marketplace are like $5/$10 depending on the person, some are even cheaper in lots. Grab them now, in 5 -8yrs, they will be hard to find, at least the more rare games. Looking at 360/PS2 games right now and GC, console games get ridiculously priced when the supply dries up and people get all nostalgic.

As far as slow load times are concerned, you should be able to speed that up by replacing your hard drive with an SSD.

I bought my PS4 Pro in 2022 when they renewed the manufacture for the PS4 Pro in 2021 and it's 2024 and I've never cleaned it since I bought it and I've never got my fan as loud as the beginning of your video I played games like MGSV Uncharted 4 and Nier and a lot of other games that are considered heavy on the console and I've never had to deal with that jet plane of a fan you have and listen I've played games up to six hours and maybe eight but I mostly play games on my Pro for usually 3 hours and I have yet to deal with any major issues compared to PS4 slim or the OG PS4 its a solid console but I really want a PS5 Pro and I want to be able to play PS2 and PS3 on it hopefully

Replace HDD with SSD,repaste thermal paste for sure as it's dried out by now...and it's still a capable budget box honestly. I'd tell people to get an XSS of money is right but if you want into the PS ecosystem and money is right this will do for another solid 1-2 years while missing out on some ps5 exclusives.

As consoles go I even think ps3 and Xbox 360 still hold up, I play one x, ps4 pro and ps5 on my 4K qled and play those older consoles on my 24 inch PlayStation simulview monitor, Alan wake, dead rising, GTA4, sleeping dogs, fight night champion, etc on 360s, last of us and uncharted trilogy, fight night round 3, Killzone games, etc on my ps3, all still hold up and load pretty quick when reloading check points after dying.

Load times are significantly worse on last gen for sure... UNLESS you get yourself an SSD! I will admit, they are super slow using the base console's HDD... some games are unbearably slow with loading. However, if you get yourself a high quality SSD, those issues will all disappear and it will come in a close 2nd to a PS5. I got myself a Samsung 4TB SSD and couldn't be happier. Cyberpunk 2077 used to take forever to load in, now it's only seconds from loading vs. minutes. With $100 or so, you can change the entire experience... plus, it fixes tons of texture loading and pop-in, so in a roundabout way it does increase the graphics. 10/10 highly recommend buying yourself a refurbished/used PS4 Pro in good condition with an SSD installed. I'd roll with a 4TB for the SSD because the games are HUGE on the PS4 - and with a 4TB drive, you'll have all the space you will ever need. :)
Then maybe opt in to get a PS5 Pro when it's released sometime in the future. Until then, PS4 Pro has incredible graphics, 4K capability, and tons of cross-buy/cross-save/cross-play games... so chances are, you'll be able to play the best games with all of your friends who own both PS4 and PS5!
PS. Also, if you think the PS4 fan is loud, then you haven't played the PS3... LOL.
