- Today we are taking a look at the PS4 and the longevity that this console has had. It really seems like the ps4 will not die as it continues to get new releases and will most likely continue to for the near future.

Ngl, it's my 2nd fav console of all time if we count everything: exclusives, multi plats, remakes, remasters, ps1/ps2 classics, etc.
None will be able to steal that 1st place from the PS2 though but I am pleasantly surprised with the PS4. Initially when I bought it, I thought maybe I would have 10 games for it and call it a day, now I have slightly over 200.
Still no reason to upgrade at all and there probably won't be.
The playstation 2, mind you, lasted a good 15 years, so PS4 might be the same as the Playstation 4 if you ask me. And around the time PS4 came out is when the PS2 was discontinued by Sony themselves.

As someone who’s only ever owned Nintendo consoles, getting a PS4 in 2024 for $85 was an amazing deal for me. Thousands of games I couldn’t play anywhere else.

Games you couldn't play on Nintendo*** there are probably only a couple dozen PlayStation exclusive games that haven't been ported to another platform (PC or Xbox.) Most are usually multiplatform, but they don't get ported to switch bc of it's low power
You’re probably more in touch with the player base than any of the current gaming executives.
Sadly most consumers are more aware of solutions/issues than a lot of higher ups at all kinds of companies. Gaming, tech, cars, healthcare, you name it

I've owned a Series X and S and found reason to return and sell them. Got a PS5 2 weeks ago, and I'm stuck. PC Gamer here.

My launch model is still alive and kicking, installed an external 512gb nvme , played 200hrs of Elden Ring and now I'm finishing the RE 4 remake on hardcore.
Also started Witcher 3 yesterday and I play GT7 from time to time!
I think the PS4 is gonna go down as arguably the greatest gaming console of all time. That era of video games was kinda perfect tbh. Great selection of games, amazing exclusives, and in regard to performance, it was able to run some very graphically demanding games, even by today’s standards. Video games at that time struck a great balance of introducing next-gen game mechanics and great visuals. It’d have been nice if Bloodborne ran at a higher fps lmao but yeah. Lots of great memories with the PS4

It’s funny you can ask people and get a different answer from everyone- I legit think 6th gen sweeps for consoles because all of the GameCube, Xbox, Dreamcast and PS2 were worth owning, there were no installs wasting time and video games reached a point of satisfying polish while remaining experimental and clearly surpassing the previous gen. Some of the best games ever came out in that era too I think.
Now I think the best games of today surpass that but 90% of the good games we get now are indies, and consoles after the 7th gen honestly suck so I just moved to PC.

Nostalgia and also cost of living. People simply can't afford the PS5.
I could afford it from day 1, and I still waited 4 years before buying it. So finally this year I got my PS5 Slim, I pay for it in monthly installments. I think it's good to own every Sony console, some people don't really care about Sony, but for me it's more than just a console. It's a huge part of my life, I grew up playing all PlayStation consoles, so I'm definitely biased, but yeah. I still want to get every PS console that ever releases, till the day I die.

That being said, taking it on installments was a smart move, because I want to build my bank credit score. By paying something in installments, you prove to the bank that they can trust you later one day (when you could really need something bad to take in credit). At least that's how it works in Europe, don't know where you live
People were paying $1000 for the ps5 at launch. The reason they didnt upgrade is because you can still play games like Fortnite on ps4

The PS4 has a killer library. I don’t blame folks for not upgrading. There’s a rumor swirling around about Sony making a new portable that could play PS4 games natively. I've been dying for a proper successor to the PS VITA, the thing that killed the Vita was proprietary memory cards being a requirement. So while I'm hoping the rumor is true, I'm hoping they learn from the Switch and use microSD cards for storage (or allow us to slot in a small SSD).
Portable PS4 makes sense. Sony moved their HQ to California and made a clean break from Japan after the PS3. It's why PS4 wasn't backwards compatible like PS3 was.
The PS4 hardware is also basically a PC compared to the custom architecture Sony used on PS1/2/3, making multiplatform easy. Plus we've seen downgrade ports to XB1 and Switch. For better or worse, gaming has become very consolidated.

I have nearly over 300 games on PS4 and still play my slim model i haven't upgraded to PS5 yet still as i still haven't see that game to make me the jump..... Been playing Nintendo switch mostly this gen 🌟
I only recently upgraded from my PS4 Slim to a PS5 slim since it went on sale 2 months ago. And all I've played on my PS5 is PS4 games like XCOM 2, Dragonball Xenoverse 2, and Apex Legends. Now apex imo is a huge upgrade but tbh PS5 is disappointing and I could have just kept playing PS4.

Sony should have never released the PS4 Pro as it is delivers almost the same graphics as the PS5. It also makes the console generation gap look smaller than it should be.

Last gen's Xbox One X (proud user here) has way better graphical fidelity than the current gen Xbox Series S. Sure, series loads faster, and some games use ray tracing in it, but other than that... 4k changes everything, and Series has no 4k support, and does not read discs, while my Xbox One X does.

ps4 pro is 4.2 teraflops and ps5 is 10.3 teraflops literally more than double graphics power
on top of that the cpu is so much of an improvement the pro couldn't do 60fps in most games while the ps5 can do even 120fps in some games
plus the ps5 has ssd compared to the mechanical drive on the pro

Yeah got mine in December 2020 but it was more of impulsive buy from all the hype. I love the PS5 but I’ve mostly just used it to play PS4 games.

Just bought yesterday ps4 slim + 2 controllers for 130 euro, then got ps plus deluxe for 55 euro and gow ragnarok, got some good stuff for year :)))
I actually like the ps5. It’s not noisy. It loads games fast. Easier to deal with in many ways. I just don’t like the design or that it’s so big and heavy. Plus there’s not enough exclusivity generation wise. I wish series X had more exclusivity console wise but at least it’s very backwards compatible friendly. Sony should have made the PS5 compatible to all previous consoles. Then it would not only dominate but crush its competition

There's zero reason it couldn't at least play PS1 and PS2 games. Those are extremely easy to emulate. I understand with PS3 because the architecture is so convoluted and difficult to emulate, but progress is even being made on that front with RPCS3.
There's no reason to upgrade if games are still coming out for PS4. GTA6 and Sparking Zero are the only reason I'm gonna upgrade.

Gravity rush 1 and 2 are my top favorite ps4 exclusive games. Such a fun and unique experience for both. Love the adorable main character. She's so charming haha.

The PS4 is a great console and I think it’s underrated. It was the last Sony console to let you explore Avatars and Themes. Also had its own web browser. All these features you won’t find on the PS5.
The only downside is stores don’t seem to stock PS4 games anymore. But that’s not a problem if you buy digital or shop online
Really? I still see PS4 games all the time. Walmart, Target, and Best Buy all have them, albeit at smaller quantities. Plus GameStop and other game stores and pawn shops have a ton. They are so cheap and plentiful.
Usually I buy my games on EBay. I find titles in Brand New Condition for a decent cheap price. Also if you checkout Mercari you can find ppl selling Used PS4 games for cheap. Cheaper than GameStop! lol.
They're literally everywhere and in terms of physical copies, they outnumber PS5 games at many game shops I"ve been to.

I had good memories with the PS4. I’m thinking on adding a Pro to my collection. I am a huge PlayStation fan.
I had the PS4 Slim all previous Gen. This year I finally acquired a Pro the Glacier White model. One that I always wanted, too. If you get a Pro try getting a model part of the 7200 series. Apparently those are much quiet, but replacing the thermal paste helps more.

I have a PS4 slim and a Pro, plus over 120 physical games. I have zero desire to own a PS5. There comes a point where something is good enough, and for me that was the PS4.
With 120 games you’re chillin for awhile. So many great games
I still use it as my main console and idk if it's just me but the PS4 UI just feels so snappy and fast which makes the experience even more better
Yea I got my ps5 like a year or so ago and it’s nice, but my ps4 pro still runs just fine and never getting rid of it, absolutely recommend it still in 2024, freaking baller ass console.
Only reason I keep my PS5 is so my sister can use my PS4 Pro. She had never gamed until hearing about Kingdom Hearts, and now that I got her that she won't stop playing!!
I finally got myself a Pro this year. A Glacier White a model one that I’veam always wanted, too. I still use the Slim as a secondary console when playing Fortnite with family and some small indie games.
In my country you can get a brand new ps4 slim at around 190$ and second handed at about 90-100$ which is a great deal considering how many games you can play

I think you nailed it. I’m a patient gamer with kids and expenses and cost of living sucks all the while ps5 price is still high for such few games that I couldn’t get for ps4. I still have a ton of ps4 games that I’m working my way through and adding more to my backlog because the value is just great picking up great games dirt cheap for under $20 and sometimes under $10. I just don’t see the need to upgrade and pay $500 for a system and $70 for games that only marginally look better (the generational difference gets smaller every generation) when I can wait it out a bit playing good games for dirt cheap and not wait until ps5 gets a price cut, more games, the price of those ps5 games comes down etc. I could probably easily make it another 2-3 years on just ps4
Being a patient gamer these days is pretty awesome because you end up being able to pick games up for cheap after the hype cools off
i am going to keep my ps4 for as long as i can. my brothers have had them since they came out i finally got my own in august and i have already made so many irreplaceble memorys with my brothers and my friends. no other console could ever replace it.
Kinda crazy that Black Op 6 is going to be on PS4/Xbone. Call of Duty is HUGE and I personally believe that people would finally upgrade to PS5 for COD but looks like too many people have PS4s so theres no reason for Activision/Microsoft to not put it on last gen. There's that one Kotuku article "60 Percent Of Playtime In 2023 Went To 6-Year-Old Or Older Games, New Data Shows" where they talk about how most gamers really only play GTA5, Roblox, Minecraft, Rocket League, Apex and Fall Guys. Crazy to think that these games are keeping PS4 super relevant.
Playing previous generations of video game consoles and having a ton of fun! The PS4 is my favorite console. I love it so much I have 2 of them. I honestly can't believe Sony shut down making new PS4'S. They could have easily sold millions more like possibly 10 million more console sales. They were crazy to stop making more of them. It's super popular and has an incredible library. The online fan base is high. After decades more time the PS4 and PS2 can be considered the greatest consoles ever made. I love them both. ❤

You forgot about FIFA, and most sports games too, FIFA until 2019 it was still making a PS3 version which is wild, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they keep doing it for PS4 at least until 2026.

I bought ps5 Slim this year, because my og ps4 was actually very slow, after years of playing it for many hours. My ps4 is gonna stay in my drawer, it still works, but a brand new ps5 slim was the way to go for me. I deserved it after saving money for quite some time, too.
I think this is spot on but one thing to note is that, though cheap, a lot of PS4's need servicing. I picked up a slim at a garage sale for $45 and when I tried loading a couple discs it failed to because of a weak laser eye. That lead to a full service. The unit was totally caked with dust inside. And though I have the ability to do this the slim has a lot of screws and parts. It's a pretty complex unit.
I have cfw ps3 slim, two modded regular wiis, modded wii u, modded new 3ds xl and I still have my psp that needs a new lcd. Also can't forget my ps2 slim and n64. 😁

I hope that when games like Fortnite are ported to the PS6, I hope they keep the PS4 servers running exclusively for PS4 players to prevent any unfair advantages.
I just bought my nephew a ps4. He said he wanted a ps5,i said why, he said better graphics....i said trust me.... you want the ps4..... he hasn't regretted it yet. He sees i still play my ps4 games on ps5 and borrows all my games. I only have about 8 physical ps5 games. Just nothing worth getting fr.

I’ve cooked 3 ps4’s with these later gen ps4 games, and got a ps5 mainly for the backwards compatibility.
It's still an amazing gaming console. I saw no reason to play ps5. My pc runs better than that console. I'm still playing ps3. I love that system the most. The games are extremely cheap still except a select few of course. I'm definitely buying a ps4 again soon.

That was a big reason why I chose the PS4 over the original Xbox One... The sheer size of the One, plus the fact you couldn't stack other stuff on top of it because of that huge vent in the top just made it impractical.

I have a little over than 100 ps4 games. It is a great console. I see no reason to upgrade for ps5 when I can play most of the games on ps4 anyway, not to mention the 70$ price tag. Although, now I'm a more of Switch player and my ps4 is mainly used as Netflix machine for now.

Man loving your videos. I am a game developer and I have released games on PS4 and PS5 but I still personally have not upgraded to a PS5 for many of the reasons you mention in the video lol. I am holding out frugally and playing tons of old games still. Plus all the PS Classics still hit PS4 as well so there is tons to play! I think when Monster Hunter Wilds hits next year I will have to find a way to upgrade lol we'll see.

Kinda reminds me of the ps2 I played that for years until my parents could afford a ps3 and it broke eventually I was still playing ps2 until 2014 with no problem with it I was still having fun

What's the point of buying a PS5?
Still rockin PS3/4 on my 14 yo 1080p vizio. Just got around to Horizon Zero Dawn. Have enough games to keep me busy for a long time. I do sometimes wonder what I am missing from a 4K or 1440p setup with a ps5/series x.
The clarity and boost in frame rates on current gen is great. That's all it really is though, just a nice thing to have but not essential. The most important thing is if the games are still good, which they still are on older systems.
I have a PS5 and mid-range PC but I also still love the Switch which is even less capable than PS4. The games are just that good on that system.
I got my darth vader ps4 last year from my uncle who got a ps5 and didn't really need the ps4 anymore and it's mainly used to play fortnite but games still look amazing

Sony just adding subscriptions and other things like that or u can say just showoff stuff but real gamers know which machines are good and which ones are not worth money .

It really will be interesting to see how it is priced this Black Friday, as this is Black Friday #4 for the console.
I'm hanging in there with a PS4 Pro. I'll upgrade to the PS5 Pro as soon as it is available. But the 4Pro does great with all games in the PS4 library. No issues with frame rates or resolution displayed on a 4k HDR Sony X900E. Monster Hunter World, Sekrio, for example, are no slouch when it comes to demanding graphics, and the 4Pro can keep up with the demand. But it won't run those kinds of games at 4k 60. So if the 5Pro can do it, that would be a worthy upgrade imo.
I have 0 reason to upgrade besides 1 game that’s coming out next month but that game is also coming out on ps4 too but my situation was dumb lol.
I preordered the limited edition of it expecting myself to have a ps5 by now from when all that scalping was still going on and I never ended up getting one because of it. Now that time has passed I see that there was nothing worth getting a ps5 for anyway. I don’t play online much either so I’m not interested in all those lame copy paste shooters and stuff either

upgrading to an SSD is the best thing you can do for your PS4, you will get fast and responsive UI, faster loading times in games, texture not loading/popin in games, audio lag! Texture pop-in in GOW Ragnarok and warzone 2 was the biggest reason i upgraded to SSD, no more texture issues at all!
I think if there is a ps5 pro coming out that it will be sony's way of forcing developer's hands to finally drop ps4 support and move onto the ps5 as a baseline, so I'm thinking another 2 years at most of releases then it will be done and even then you will take notice to releases on the ps4 starting to look awful, partially because it has to to even make those same games fit on that hardware but also because on design, eventually they will start twisting everyone's arm to upgrade.
the ps4 fixed the only issue with the ps3, the low amount of ram and a badly aged gpu. Ps5 should have increased cpu power more because graphical improvements are diminishing, but what is easily noticable is npc count in open world games and physics etc. Ps5 should have had a good gpu but mainly a good cpu so games could innovate because as of now ps5 looks same as ps4 if you are on 1080p display
The PS5 cpu is over 5x more powerful. It just current games are still limited by the GPU. Lets see how far GTA 6 pushes the current consoles.
I'm using a 1080p display and playing cyberpunk on ps4 vs ps5 is a big difference lol

@@BigCat553 its almost like cyberpunk is a pc game that was ported to ps4.... if you play any ps4 game ps5 upgrade is not noticable in 1080p. The reason you notice cyperbunj ps4 vs ps5 is because its a pc game that ported to ps5 which made it more similar to the pc version.
Almost half my psn friends list are active on PS4 and basically all current games are still playable there.
We'll need to wait till Feb 2027 to see if the PS5 outsold the PS4, it's a close race right now since the 5 is now where 4 was in Jun 2017 in it's lifecycle
There are only handful of PS4 games which are being enhanced for ps5...most of them are first Party titles apart from that, PS4 pro runs almost every PS4 game just like PS5...there are still not enough exclusive titles on PS5 which justifies it's 499 usd price tag...
Just put my console to rest. My ps4 has been with me almost my whole life, and it's only been acting up in the past 4 years. I love ps4 and won't sell it, but I knew it was time to let it rest.

Gamers want to get the best possible deals on consoles and games. The PS5 fails to do either of these. In fact they've increased prices. Which is obviously unprecedented this far into the life cycle.
Yeah not having a price drop on a console at this point in its lifecycle is kind of ridiculous
@@FranchisePlayyerI agree. But if they wanted to justify the huge price tag they should have made it backwards compatible to all previous consoles not just ps4 games.
In my opinion, even some of the best-looking PS3 games that launched before the PS4 look almost indistinguishable from today's video games. A friend of mine once said to me that we seem to be in a time where video game technologies have gotten so good that investing money in a new console every generation might soon start having diminishing returns.
This has been the most disappointing console generation. Too many cross gen games, remakes and remasters.
Not to mention the overpriced PlayStation subscription services and DEI infested games and censorship.

Complete agree. For my modern gaming. Im perfectly ok with Switch lite and a PS4. I will most likely skip a PS5 and just get a Steamdeck for next gen stuff. I still play older retro consoles especially since i pay to get them hacked and modified with tons of games
The steam deck is gonna struggle more and more on the next gen stuff 😂😂😂 The steam deck will struggle especially with unreal engine 5. Or struggle with other graphics engines that'll make video games very realistic. You might as well use an actual PC, and make sure the PC can handle MOST next gen stuff.
@@user-John1 i see what your saying. But PCs standalone require alot of maintenance, organization, and an actual desk. I personally prefer the plug in and play aspect of consoles. Also I personally don't need to have the most modern mainstream hardware intensive games. If the switch with it's hardware got many many ports and is doing fine. I'm sure the Steam deck will be fine as well.

man, i kinda wished i still had my ps4. i was forced to upgrade to a ps5 cause my ps4 became broken. power issue. so i said why not. originally i was going to keep the ps4, whenever i did get a ps5. but am not mad at getting a ps5. I got a huge backlog of ps4 games that i can play on the ps5. but salute to the people still playing with the ps4.
Hi! Have just watched your video and really enjoyed it. Personally, I'm not rushing out to get a PS5 anytime soon. I have only had my PS4 for a little over a year now - 1 of 2, I might add - but have only used it a Blu-ray player! Despite a fair collection of games. Also, I'm more into the retro stuff, anyway!
I have a PS5 and a PS4 and I play my PS4 more. Plus I’ve had so many controller issues with stick drift for the PS5 and controlllers I’ve had for years on PS4 that haven’t had a single issue.
Gaming power has practically plateaued now. The next gaming generation most likely wont be a major upgrade at all. Now the new thing has become scalability, how can we make gaming more versatile rather than more powerful. That is the next generational step.
The PS4 most likely will always be around in some way, Sony may never discontinue this console, no reason to.
Iim still happy on ps4 slim and m ps4 slim fit lovely in my backpack and im enjoying my anime games still loving wall themes skins.
i'm actually planning to buy my friend's ps4 since he's not using it anymore instead of ps5 cause he sell it to me for like $100 with all of his games just without the controller since he still use it. Getting ps5 just for spiderman 2 is not really a good deal for me since it's coming out on pc anyway

Because the install-base is huge; I've heard it's around 140 million+ PS4 owners out there. On top of that, the console can still play a lot of non-demanding team-based shooters and Sports titles no issues, so yeah, it'll probably be supported for three to four more years before it goes into legacy mode.
I think the biggest reasons for this is gaming had the best game from ps1-ps3 era and somewhat ps4 but graphically games can’t look much better then they did on Xbox one and ps4 so what are really upgrading for?
There was really no solid reason to release an upgraded version. Hardware still capable of running 95% of new games at acceptable performance and quality.
I bought a used ps4 pro back in 2022 and I've never looked back . Its games still looks amazing even compared to modern ones, and cause they're kinda old everything is dirt cheap. New ps5 games are fucking 70 bucks, and the device itself is like a grand down here in my country. I have no reason (nor money) to upgrade.
I'm more of a portable gamer , I have 2ds XL , few vitas , psp , ds .. buy last year I got PS3 that got shorted and decides to go for a PS4 slim for 90€(100$) in October. Changed the thermal paste and cleaned it, and it's perfect . Now I have like 7 physical games and 10 digital , the system is quite good , I'm very happy with it , Ghost of Tsushima is the game that impressed me the most 🙂 great library and a ton of games to explore, from the once that I have I have 3 that I haven't even started yet like the Witcher 3 gory , ffxv and barmatn Arkham Knight.

I still use my PS3 though the Xbox 360 had better graphics . Although I find myself playing the PS3 more.
I still have PS4 fat And still love it, but I worried about year 2025 because I read that they shutdown support, and I want still play on ps4.
I got my 2tb PS4 Pro for $300 in 2021 and I felt a little fomo for not saving more and going for a PS5 but at this point I’m happy with my decision as the PS4 is still getting every game I want to play and I don’t really like the direction Sony’s been heading with the PS5. I do want an upgrade so I decided to start building a PC so I can mod my favorite games and get even better performance that I would with a PS5. I’ll probably get one in the distant future when they’re cheaper because I want a 4K Player and a way to play games physically.

I came here expecting this to be about the ps4 literally not dying... i have a 2yr old ps5 which had to be cleaned due to overheating issues where as my day 1 ps4 which hasn't been cleaned is still chugging along.
I still have the PS4 and i Love it! This makes me proud to hear
Bro this is the realest review. All my games are still supported on ps4, I have a huge backlog of games on a ton of systems. I have no need for a ps5.
