AC3 naval action was more realistic than AC4 and ACR. In last two games ships are way too fast and maneuverable and cannons reload in almost no time. Also correction of cannon fire and reduced effect of wind make AC4 and ACR too simplistic.

That's because ac3 was the OG of sailing, and actually a great game, a masterpiece, 2012 was the last year for the most part of great games.

the sound, effects and graphics were better in ac3. but gosh I liked ac4 so much more, the jackdaw felt like home, you could free roam plunder enemy ships and rule over the caribbean see

If ac 3 and ac 4 made a naval combat baby,then it would have all the things from ac 4(free roaming,boarding freely) and the captains cabin and the feel of ac 3.

I came for the nostalgia of an old ac game at its finest, the dialogue, the intense music, everything about it is amazing, This is maybe the best part of the game. If only they still made them like this.

AC3 naval battles made you feel like an actual 17th century naval combatant. AC4 and AC:R made you feel like a god of the sea set to send retribution.

Well they made the naval combat the centerpiece of the entire game in Black Flag. I suspect some resources had to be directed elsewhere, hence why the free running is rather clunky and the land combat seems more simplistic. It's still an impressive, fun and addicting game, and AC3 literally struck gold with the naval missions. So naturally they capitalized on it.
