The naval combat in these games is much more satisfying than in Odyssey.
Well duh! of course naval combat suck at that time
Ships in BCEs were weak, they use rows for movement, they use only arrows for combat, and hard to board an enemy ships
While in the 18th century, naval combat are on the rise. They use sails for movement, they have no anchor to make the ship stop, they have cannons and packle guns for combat, they have wheels to turn the ship. A huge improvement to BCEs and Medival naval combat.

I just had the weirdest glitch. I was fighting a French brig, which was fighting my British ally's brig, and I accidentally shot the British brig. I disabled the French brig and decided to board it. I aimed my pistol at the French sailor's head and wondered why I can't shoot him. I then looked at the boarding hooks and saw them attached to the British brig. My sailors were reeling in a British ship. And this was post-game. I have no idea how it happened.
this game looks like some kind of assassin's creed black flag's dlc
Being honest? I think it would be better as a Stand Alone DLC than a full game. As a tie in for AC3, AC4 and ACU. The problem was that this game had literally months of development, instead of a year, because the team was focused in ACU.
Even so the story here is remarkable and it's pretty impressive how the devs did so much with so little (both resources, since it's the same Gameplay as Black Flag as well as time. About 7 months if I am not mistake).

Unlike Black Flag, it's very hard to get Max Wanted, since it goes down automatically. And pretty fast at that.

This game is better than ac black flag for only one reason: you control a frigate and can sail everywhere you want unlike assassins creed 3

Another reason it's better than Black Flag, in my opinion, is the variety of environments.
Black Flag: Cities, fishing villages, and Caribbean islands.
Rogue: Cities, towns, trading post, villages, North American forrest, Artic ocean.

Even though it was easy I still miss the combat. The games now have a stupid ass dodge system that don't make sense. They could have stuck with this but tweaked for a challenge like giving enemies life bars again.

How much ship combat is really required in this game?
It depends on how you want to get through the game. To get materials in order to improve your ship, etc, you need to capture a lot of enemy ships. And quite a few missions are naval. A lot of the time I just did naval combat and fort captures for fun, though, lol

Naval combat in rogue is too narrow due to ice...
Then again, the sloop is more maneuverable.
I hate the fact that they just re used all of Edward's combat animations
The sword and dagger has a good amount of new animations for killing a single enemy. So, they did change them. And when you break defense and then kill him. Edward does 2 slashes on the enemy's back. While Shay stabs him with the sword first and then with the dagger in the enemy's back.
