      @@PelvicEmpowerment your welcome, I was watching ur videos for my 6yr old son who suffers tremendously from constipation gas ND bloating... N sometimes he holds his poop bc it hurts him to go...so instead of chemical remedies I have beenooki. For more natural efficient ways of helping him!!!

    • @PelvicEmpowerment
      @PelvicEmpowerment  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am so sorry to hear about your son! I love that you are searching for natural ways to help him - he so isn’t alone in this experience at all. There are actually pelvic physical therapists who specialize in treating children with pelvic dysfunction!
      A good pediatric pelvic PT would be able to evaluate your son with you, and try and figure out through both a musculoskeletal lens and a lifestyle lens what is causing his constipation!
      If pelvic PT sounds like something you’d be interested in and you live in the US, you can use this directory to find a specialist near you: pelvicrehab.com
      Be sure, when you call the clinics, to be clear that your child is 6 and suffering from constipation/fear of bowel movements, as not all pelvic PTs treat children.
      I really wish you two nothing but the best. Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions along the way ❤️

    I’m so glad I found you I’ve been having my first IBS attack flare up for the past hour and a half I’ve been screaming and crying in pain I’m 29 years old and I’ve never had this happen to me except one other time and it was very mild I don’t know how I came across your videos but I’m just glad I did I found all of your steps that I keep repeating them I’m just praying I get Some relief in the next half hour at least this is the most painful thing ever I really have to change my entire diet and lifestyle and just turn everything around if I don’t want this to happen again everything really stems from your diet no matter what this is a huge painful lesson but thank you again I really really do admire people like you it’s because of you but I’m getting relief now I wish that more people in the world would share the love that you do

    • @PelvicEmpowerment
      @PelvicEmpowerment  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh my goodness, I am so, so sorry to hear that you were suffering from such a painful attack! I’m really glad you found these techniques to be helpful - diet does seem to play a large role in managing IBS and preventing those attacks, you’re right! I fully intend on completing my IBS series once my husband and I return from our honeymoon (we’ll be back to the states end of March/beginning of April), where I will finish outlining how I’ve seen people successfully manage IBS through diet.
      Until then, I did want to share a different technique with you in case you do have another attack. I’ve found that intestinal massage can be very soothing for some people during IBS attacks - I outline this technique, here: th-cam.com/video/JALxwIIPS0g/w-d-xo.html

    Thank you! Would you recommend anything different for IBS-C?

    • @PelvicEmpowerment
      @PelvicEmpowerment  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're welcome ❤
      Have you read much about IBS and its potential relationship to the gastrocolic reflex? I work with a lot of humans who have IBS, whether its -C, -D, or both, and we sometimes find good relief and success working through the lens of an "overactive" or "under-active" gastrocolic reflex and being mindful of soluble vs. insoluble fiber intake.
      If you haven't heard of this perceptive, I recommend reading more at this website: www.helpforibs.com/footer/gastrocolic.asp
      It's an amazing resource if you haven't found it, yet!
      Otherwise, it depends on your background with IBS-C! I usually recommend:
      1. Intestinal massage in the morning, before bed, or after meals: th-cam.com/video/JALxwIIPS0g/w-d-xo.html
      2. Sitting properly on the toilet for BMs: th-cam.com/video/5egK-7jrEHM/w-d-xo.html
      3. Movement after meals! Even if it is just a 2-3 minute walk or small jog
      4. Not aiming for a specific number of BMs/week, instead aiming for the "ideal bowel habit" guidelines, whatever frequency that looks like:
      * The ability to defer the urge to poop at least 1 hour without abdominal or rectal pain as a result of deferring that urge
      * Complete voluntary control over gas and normally formed stool, not diarrhea (a.k.a. no leaking gas or poop!)
      * Prompt initiation of a bowel movement once sitting on the toilet
      * Smooth, steady passage of stool over 1-2 minutes or less without pain, bleeding, or prolapse
      * Sensation of complete rectal emptying upon leaving the toilet
      * No rectal or perianal skin symptoms between bowel movements
      * No abdominal pain or bloating between bowel movements
      Wishing you the best!

    Here's what helped me after being constipated for four days..half tin prunes at lunch time then half tin of apricots in the evening. A small handful of dried sultanas because dried fruit contains more fibre. Dried apricots are the best if you can get those. Also I drank seven half pint glasses of water. I did this for two days. I am so, so sorry to hear of your struggle with constipation resulting from psychiatric medication. I know very personally how overwhelming pelvic issues can be, and I hate hearing that you feel this is taking up so much space your life.
      Constipation and GI issues in general are very individual in nature. Everyone's gut is different, which means everyone's constipation is different. I cannot offer you individualized medical advice, but I am confident that your body is capable of healing. I highly recommend seeking out a healthcare professional who you trust that can evaluate your properly, and guide you with interventions that are tailored to your unique presentation. Remember that healthcare is a SERVICE industry! If you don't have a good feeling about your provider, shop around, trust your instincts, and don't feel bad if you don't feel you and a certain provider are "compatible."
      Don't be scared to do your research! Knowledge helps so much with fear. Learn all you can about that psychiatric medication. What is its mechanism of action? Why would it cause constipation? How can you change your lifestyle habits to specifically heal that cause? How have others who have had a similar experience healed? Collect as much information as you can and know that your opinion about how best to heal yourself is important, too!
      I wish I could be more helpful. Wishing you health and safety during this uncertain time 💛

      You're welcome, thank you for watching! I can't give personalized medical advice, but generally speaking -- one of the best things you can do with conservative management when it comes to rectocele or any other form of pelvic organ prolapse is pressure management! Making sure you are exhaling (not breath-holding!) when you exert/not straining on the toilet/well supported when you exercise, etc.
      If you haven't seen a pelvic physical therapist, you might benefit from pelvic PT! A pelvic PT can teach you a lot of helpful lifestyle techniques as well as potentially help improve the symptoms of your rectocele with proper pelvic floor exercises tailored to your goals and lifestyle!

    I am so glad that I found you and have watched a bunch of your videos in the past couple days. I struggle from colonic inertia and wanted to explain what happens to me in hopes that you might have some ideas. I really appreciate your knowledge and cheerful demeanor. It helped get me through a frustrating day yesterday. Every morning, I wakeup full of liquidy stool that takes 3-4 hours to get out. I take Linzess at 1 a.m. as it takes a few hours to work, and taking it in the morning is not an option for me as I need to start working. I also take herbal laxatives at night. Without these, stool does not move through me. During the 3-4 hour process, I use about 20-30 glycerine suppositories as it seems I need something in my rectum to signal it to release stool. I also use 2 stimulant bisacodyl suppositories during this process. I also find that I release stool much easier if I squat on top of my toilet bowl. This is really not ideal, but it works. It isn't until I get all of the stool out that I feel decent enough to start the day. Oddly, my right arm, neck and shoulder crack and have soreness until I can evacuate the stool. I have started doing the exercises in your video as well as taking the prune/apple juice/oat bran mix. I am wondering if you might be able to suggest anything else. I'd really appreciate it!

      Hi Nicole! First of all, I am so, so sorry to learn about your struggles with your bowel health. I know it isn't the same, but having navigated my own chronic pelvic health issues, I know how challenging healing can be -- and I know how dark those "frustrating" days sometimes are. I'm confident you're an incredibly strong person, I'm so happy you're still here, and I hope you find time to celebrate all you've survived!
      Second of all, I'm honored that you're reaching out to me for help; however, I cannot give individualized medical advice. I can only share general information and resources.
      That being said, have you ever heard of pelvic physical therapy? I think a pelvic physical therapy who is comfortable using "balloon training," or "manometry" could be incredibly helpful for you! Not all pelvic PTs are well versed in bowel health, so finding one who is and who knows how to, at the very least, test your rectal tissue health with a balloon could be a super helpful starting point.
      Given what you've shared with me, you want a provider who can help you wean off of the stimulant laxatives, jump start peristalsis, and retrain your rectal tissue sensitivity if you need it. Essentially, the rectum and the brain communicate via stretch, and there are established normal volumes that fill the rectum before the brain recognizes that something is there, has its first urge to defecate, and then reaches max capacity. Sometimes, when someone has a history of constipation and stimulant (herbal) laxative dependence, those volumes are higher than the norm, and it takes much more to fill the rectum before the brain registers it needs to defecate! This can be retrained!!
      You can learn more about this aspect of rectal tissue health by watching this video, if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/VJp3ospXb4A/w-d-xo.html
      Anyway, I really think working with a pelvic PT who has experiencing treating bowel dysfunction, who can assess your rectal tissue volumes and compare them to the norms, retrain your rectal tissue if you need it, work with you on natural peristalsis stimulation, help you wean off of the stimulant laxatives, and further assess your lifestyle/diet/body and apply any other tailored interventions would be a wonderful next step!
      If you live in the US, you can use this directory to find a provider near you: pelvicrehab.com
      If you choose to go that route, be specific when speaking to the front desk! Tell them you need a provider who knows bowel dysfunction, not all pelvic PTs will have the specialized training I think could really benefit you.
      Finally, know that bodies are capable of IMMENSE healing. I've seen people heal from seemingly hopeless conditions, and I don't think your body is an exception. You deserve to feel peace both in your body and your mind.
      I wish I could be more helpful! I wish you the absolute best in your healing, and I hope this helps bring you one step closer to peace ♥️

      @@PelvicEmpowerment Thank you so much for this kind and helpful reply. I have seen 2 pelvic floor PTs, and it didn't help. I should try again though. Thank you for that push and the notes on what specifically to look for. I'll do some research this week. I am doing your pelvic floor exercise video now as I imagine those exercises might help a bit. I'm not sure if I mentioned this in the initial comment, but I find that squatting on top of my toilet (with my feet on the toilet) helps a ton with release of stool. I am now trying to find a set up that allows me to do that a little more safely and comfortably. If you have any ideas there, I'd love to hear them.
      I have found so many of your videos to be helpful. Thank you so much for everything you are doing. It's really appreciated.

    • @PelvicEmpowerment
      @PelvicEmpowerment  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nicolegraziano8141 I'm so sorry to learn that you've not had much help from two other pelvic providers -- pelvic health is a speciality within PT, but you can further specialize within the specialty. Some pelvic providers are really well versed in bladder health, but don't know a lot about treating bowel dysfunction. Others are really good at bowel dysfunction, but not so good at sexual dysfunction. We try to produce well rounded practitioners, but there are always limitations, if that makes sense.
      Finding someone who really knows their bowel stuff, knows about anorectal manometry, and is comfortable assessing you structurally might be helpful. Squatting like you described being so helpful could have a lot do with your pelvic floor muscles, but it could also have a lot to do with the actual structure of your rectum, if that makes sense. Your organs move in your pelvis, and if someone needs a specific position to defecate (or urinate, for that matter) successfully, sometimes that means muscle involvement (the pelvic floor has trouble relaxing), and sometimes that means structural involvement. It would be helpful to have a provider who can appreciate your structural anatomy and your musculature, if that makes sense. Experience and special interest in bowel health -- anyone who is comfortable with manometry likely has a special interest in bowel health, if that's helpful!
      Finding the right provider can be an undertaking in and of itself. Don't give up, and trust your intuition! Healthcare is a service industry, and just like you can shop around in other service industries, know that you can shop around for the right provider!

      I love that you are eating healthy, staying hydrated, and exercising regularly -- that is wonderful! Bloating is another tricky symptom that can be caused by a number of things. I wish I could tell you exactly what causes it, but it really depends on the person. When trying to figure out what could be the cause of your specific bloating, I've found that symptom diaries can be really helpful! Thank you so much for the kind words both about me and my channel - can't tell you how much I appreciate it ❤
      As far as your friend -- for a dropped uterus, or a prolapse, I would recommend a few things:
      1. The organs in the pelvic bowl are held up by two things: the pelvic floor and the ligaments. Imagine a boat, docked, floating on water. If the boat is an organ, the pelvic floor is like the water, and the rope tying the boat to the dock is like the ligaments. I'd recommend your friend see a pelvic physical therapist so she can get her pelvic floor assessed, and then likely strengthen the pelvic floor for better support of the uterus. If your friend lives in the US, she can use this directory to find a pelvic PT in her area: pelvicrehab.com
      2. The other tool that could be useful to better support the ligaments is a pessary. That would be something for her to discuss more with her pelvic PT or her GYN, but here are some educational videos all about pessaries/how they work: www.acog.org/patients/patient-education-videos/pelvic-organ-prolapse
      Wishing her the best!

    • @PelvicEmpowerment
      @PelvicEmpowerment  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@innakhesin3282 Okay, I highly suggest seeing a pelvic physical therapist. Dyssynergia can be a tricky diagnosis -- it essentially means the pelvic floor muscle that should relax when someone is trying to bear down (or push out) poop is contracting instead.
      I have seen many patients in clinic who have been given this diagnosis, but that's actually not what's going on. You can imagine that trying to defecate in front of a physician/other health care providers can be stressful, as is having a balloon in the rectum. Sometimes the person taking the anorectal manometry test clenches up/contracts because of the discomfort of the test, unclear verbal instruction, or the very nature of being watched while trying to defecate.
      Other times, when dyssynergia is truly the culprit, pelvic PT can be incredibly effective!

      @@innakhesin3282 I am so sorry to hear that you're feeling frustrated. Bowel dysfunction can be really tricky, and let me say if this round of pelvic PT doesn't help like you want it to, don't give up.
      I have been the therapist who can't help someone, and I've been the therapist who can help someone after a different therapist couldn't.
      It's an honor to be helpful. I can't give individualized medical advice, but if you have other questions I'll to my best to answer 💕

    Can you please do something on nausea? I suffer from crippling chronic nausea, usually from constipation. I feel like I have tried everything but I still often find myself too nauseous to drive or even walk sometimes. I am working on that constipation, your videos are very helpful.

      I’m so sorry to learn about your issues with nausea, and I really appreciate your request. Upper GI stuff isn’t in my scope of practice, so it’s not something I know as much about. That being said, I’ll write down your request and maybe I can make an informative video of sorts-I’d be learning, too!
      I’m really glad my videos have been helpful for you. Don’t ever give up on your ability to heal, you deserve to feel peace in your body ❤️

    great video! quick question - for long term bowel and digestive health - do you want your feet splayed or facing forwards in the deep squat?

      Hi! Are you asking about the position of your feet in this yoga pose, or the position of your feet when you are defecating and trying to mimic a squat? I ask because my answers are a little different depending ❤️
      Wishing you health and safety during this uncertain time 🤗

      @@PelvicEmpowerment Hi! :) Is it ok if I'm interested in your answers to both? Full disclosure I'm a very experienced yoga teacher and have an existing opinion but that doesn't mean that my interest in your answer isn't genuine. x

      What fun! Please share your thoughts I’d love to learn!
      For the yoga position, I just want to encourage open hips/pelvic floor relaxation, so foot position would ideally be lateral rotation but since it’s limited by flexibility I’m less concerned as long as they’re belly breathing and they’re hips are externally rotated/abducted.
      On the toilet, however, since flexibility shouldn’t be as much of a limiting factor, I want someone’s feet to match the squatty potty prompts if they can swing it!
      What about you??

      @@PelvicEmpowerment It may be a function of the people with whom I tend to work but I'm often dealing with people that I need to encourage to relearn habits of engaging external muscle groups in order to excuse the pelvic floor and lower back in order to excuse the lower abdominals therefore I encourage them to keep the feet facing forwards and relax the pelvic floor only when they can descend and keep their balance. In yoga therapy terms this is managing apana and balancing the front of the back of the body. This also has some psychosomatic implications that seem to be relevant to bowel movement, and impacts on parasympathetic/sympathetic equilibrium which is also relevant, but I'm already trying to fit too much into the wrong kind of format for this discussion ;)
