    My wife is a GS-15 HR Director in the federal government here in the DC area. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my wife’s agency’s went to 100% telework…it was great for us….as we live about 55 miles west (hour to hour and 20 minute commute by car using toll lanes) from her DC office. We even went down to just having one vehicle (a 4-door top trim level 8-cylinder 4x4 truck). The pandemic cut our spending on toll, gos, maintenance, and incidental expenses by, at least $1500/month. Before the pandemic that they had a max -telework policy whereby employees (with a few exceptions)
    could work from home up to 3 days per week. They are still on telework status due to the agency moving to another building (moving from DC to Northern Virginia)…they turned over all but a couple of offices and some storage space to GSA until the new space is in Virginia is ready. Upon “moving-in” to the new space, they will still only need to come into the office 2 days per week.

      @DaaClaptain approximately 110 miles round trip commute (before the pandemic, my wife had a Subaru Legacy that got about 28 MPG combined city/Highway)--more frequent oil changes, regular fill-up’s, higher insurance premiums, quicker wear on tires, more frequent brake changes, etc…. Tolls on the Dulles toll road add up, the tolls on I-66 have dynamic pricing -she’s paid as much as $40 when traffic was especially; and just the other day, we had to visit the office she is moving to later this year, and the I-66 toll was almost $28, and the occasion use of the Dulles Greenway. Parking was $20/day. $5-10/day Stopping at Starbucks/Dunkin/other coffee shop or bakery for coffee and a bagel/breakfast sandwich; another $10-20 eating lunch with co-workers (when she didn’t take lunch with her); $3-5 for an afternoon coffee. Clothing/shoes…working from home, one doesn’t need as many “work” clothes. Oh, and at that time, we were still making payments in the car she drove; which was paid off just about the time the pandemic shut a lot places down.
      And, certainly, she could have taken routes that do not include toll roads, but that would’ve made the commute substantially longer and used more gas due to traffic congestion on secondary roadways.
      So, yes, about $1500/month. I wouldn’t characterize the expenses as careless; most of the costs (minus the food and beverages) was necessary….car payment, gas, tolls, parking, car insurance, oil changes

    I hear there's a lot of ghost jobs being posted these days. It's skewing the % of unemployment and causing problems. I have never ever ever had such a hard time getting a new job than I have since the first of 2024. I even work in the I.T. field and not even getting many calls for interviews. In the past, I have nailed a new job within 20 days is the record. Within a few months is the norm. This is pushing on 5 or more months with only 2 interviews. One job was bait and switch as it required farm experience working IT at a dairy. I'm still on an interview loop with one of the companies. It's like MAYDAY. I want to work, ready to work, have the skills sought out, but I'm getting ghosted.
    What's different about what you are offering?

      Govt jobs and their hiring process is so heavily regulated they cannot posted ghost listings because of opm guidelines requires them to show proof of why a listing was first posted and then closed with hiring.

      you could qualify for certain jobs and the experience would qualify you for a management position. However, it probably would be an inperson job. There are many jobs that deal with material handling, receiving, shipping, managing warehouse and supplies. Dept of Defense has a lot of these jobs. • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      The best indicator is to use the "Only show remote jobs" filter on USAJobs. Some of those jobs might have a geographical limitation such as "must be located within 30 miles of office" but other jobs will allow you to live anywhere in the country. You can only find that information out by reading the entire job announcement.

      Yes, you will probably still get both the TJO and the FJO. Another consideration, is if the new position has a different risk level or if perhaps they may have questions for your supervisor. But overall, if selected, I think the hiring process should move quicker.

    Hello, In one of your videos, you mentioned to counter salary based upon previous pay. In another video, you mentioned that it is no longer an effective way to counter via pay. Can you clarify if one should counter or simply accept the offer and continue to search jobs for a higher GS level open to the public? Please advise.

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  วันที่ผ่านมา

      Starting next month you should not be able to use your past salary to negotiate your federal government salary. Instead you are negotiating your salary (step level) by demonstrating that you are a superiorly qualified candidate.

    But, be aware that many agencies "technically" have telework; but, will tell you "that's not part of our culture here" because they disagree with ability to telework. They also may require an obnoxiously detailed "Telework Plan" to be submitted and approved for each telework day, in addition to calling-in at the end with line-by-line update on where you're at on the specific plan. Getting ready to leave government work because of this outdated mindset.

      People do it and It's possible. But the main question that should be asked in this situation is, "is there a conflict of interest?". The correct answer would be to check with Human Resources or the "ethics office" in your agency.
