Ok, so not part of the video, but the part where you take out the display cables worked for me. I took out the cables then tried the thing with holding f2 but nothing showed up, but I didn’t really have anything else to do, so I reconnected the display cable and finished up and closed the computer. I then decided to test out the computer 1 last time before leaving it for the day. When I turned on the laptop the screen suddenly flashed on. Not even kidding, I thought I was dreaming and I tried to do a reality check, which would then turn out to be that I’m not dreaming, and then all the memories of the mental torture with the screen not working came back so fast. I genuinely cannot describe how thankful I am for seeing this video. Thank you so much.

Thanks mr. Patrick , this was driving insane because recently i cracked the notebook screen , and i was having a hard time to figure out how to configure my bios settings, never thought of disabling the screen on the board until searching and find your video

Thank you! The easy way (enable legacy mode) really helped me and the BIOS showed. But my laptop screen was broken so I had to assist myself with some TH-cam videos and my second laptop (also from Lenovo). And now the entire Linux bootup process shows and the bottom is not cut off anymore.

Thanks for the information. I had plans to build a media PC for the family and I didn't know if disconnecting the internal display would force bios onto the external display.
Greatly appreciated, got the computer up and running windows in under a day with a nice little case for it and wireless accessories!

Pro tip: Unplug the battery and discharge the residual power (by holding the power button for a few seconds) BEFORE plugging/unplugging the LCD cable. With the battery connected it's quite easy to short out the pins on the connector and blow your backlight fuse or circuit.

Thanks for the great tutorial. My problem is that windows 10 has recently dropped my 10 year old graphics card from support and, although my screen still works, it cuts to black frequently and is impossible to work with. When I connect an external monitor using the vga or hdmi ports on my computer, they draw signal from the internal graphics card (which apparently cannot be replaced in this machine) and the monitor acts the same way as the built in screen. So, I have connected an external monitor using a usb to vga adapter and this is working just fine. My question is, do you think that using the procedure you used, the system will find a usb monitor when it boots up.

Thanks! I have a MSI GS70 which has a damaged screen. I am looking to convert it into an all-in-one desktop but wanted to make sure that I could access the BIOS before disassembling it.
Taking out the LCD cable allowed me to use a second screen in the BIOS! It seems that without the LCD cable connected, the laptop defaults to the external display ports as the new primary display outputs.

Thank you for these very helpful instructions.
I don't know if someone already mentioned it,I'd just like to add that there is a third option, which can also help inplement the second with a broken screen, and that is simply to close the computer (with "do nothing" as the parameter for when you do this) and then launching an advanced reboot from settings---recovery.
I just did this with my broken screen, and it enabled me to switch on the "wake up with mouse" option, so I can always leave it closed.

Thank you so much. For the Lenovo Y500 ThinkPad, taking off the ribbon cable did the trick.
For anyone looking for the ribbing cable it's located on the right side, next to your graphics card, just above the copper heat pipes. Just unplug it and connect your VGA to a 2nd monitor and you should be able to get the BIOS from there.

I had a Lenovo Legion laptop, I decided to remove the SSD NVME M.2 which had windows 10 installed as well as some of the necessary software/program files. I had not formatted the SSD and I simply decided to insert it onto my Asus ROG Laptop which I have turned on after a year; the Asus laptop did not have a HDD or an SSD inserted which meant that it did not have an OS (Windows). So now as I have inserted the new Rams & the new SSD, I switch on the laptop but it is still not displaying the image. The next step was to disconnect the ribbon cable because I wanted to eventually use the external monitor as my primary display while using the laptop as the Keyboard and The CPU/GPU. Now my laptop’s display panel along with the screen has been removed along with the wire. So what remains is the base of the laptop that holds everything except of the display.
The issue still remains. There is still no display while the laptop is powered on and I can hear the fan’s noise but I cannot see anything due to the black screen. Is this happening because of the SSD? No asus logo, no boot up at all; only a blank black screen with the fan and the laptop running.

I know that's a different problem, but maybe you can give me a tip.
I have an Asus ROG G75VX and it didn't boot. Then I plugged an external monitor and it booted like a charm with the external monitor as its primary. Then I switched to the laptop monitor and set that as primary. Now again it boots ONLY with an external monitor connected and immediately switch to the laptop's monitor.
If you put the laptop in sleep mode it resumes without an external monitor. So I guess it has to do with the boot part only.
    Any guesses?

Sorry I got nothing :( . That sounds really weird.
Seems like the exact opposite problem most people have

whiteboardcoder exactly. It's like the controller got recalibrated. I set my monitor as primary on Windows adapter settings and on Nvidia control panel and when I hit FN+F8 the external is "PC screen" and laptop's is "Second screen". Insanity.
At least the GPU is ok. I removed Linux after setting em up the same as Windows as far as primary screen goes. Now I will do a clean format and hope for the best.
If I solve the problem I will reply on this comment just to let you know which kind of sorcery was it :P
      Thanks for your time.
