  • This is my how to video on connecting a monitor to a laptop with a broken screen. Most laptops have an auto detect feature for connecting a VGA or HDMI but if yours doesnt, here is how you do it.

So it worked for mine! However I would like to add if your computer normally prompts a voltage notification (to press f1) or if your computer shuts down (enter>start windows normally) can trigger the homepage to display as well. You just have to make sure you press those buttons around 10 seconds in between from startup as you would have normally. Thanks again!

Another option worth trying. When you turn on your laptop close the lid immediately. And it should detect the external display. Automatically. Of course you have it plugged in already.

There is a easier way to get to the login screen:
When on the lockscreen, (the page that shows a picture and the time) just hit the space bar.
To open the menu that comes up when you hit the mirrored screen button, hold the windows logo key and press p.
To go through the menu items, you can press the up or down arrows to highlight an option, and press enter to select until you see the screen in the monitor.
This is much easier than trying to use the mouse blinded.
    Hope this helps anyone

I had an external monitor hooked up with mirrored display (because my screen was already broken) and when my laptop was doing an update it went blank and nothing would show up. I also had scroll turned off on my laptop (use a mouse instead). I was freaked out about the monitor not turning on... With this video, and just messing with those monitor buttons you mentioned, i got the external screen to turn back on, only to realize that there was no login screen, only updates happening, that say "your PC will restart several times." in end, i just needed to give it time, but i still think the monitor buttons you mentioned helped. Thank you much!

What worked for me: The monitor (via HDMI) automatically became the main screen with the broken screen removed/disconnected. Simply rebooted with the monitor connected. Used the laptop as normal, no drama when it sleeps, no stress about turning it off. All you need is a small screwdriver and 5 minutes to remove the screen. TH-cam search your laptop model to see how to remove the screen. Hope that helps!
ETA: Once you see how easy it is to remove the screen you will do the replacement yourself and save $200 dollars.

Just to recap what I did with mine after disconnecting the screen I plugged an hdmi lead into the laptop and the other end to my monitor. Had to go into the monitor settings and change the input over to hdmi, started the laptop and the picture came straight up. Its possible you might have to press a button combo on the laptop , to change to hdmi output, that depends which laptop you have.

@@boastyy hi, I have a sager gaming laptop NP7877PQ and monitor Dell UP2516D I don’t see any buttons to make matters worse 😿

    • @colleenrandall5628
      @colleenrandall5628 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The monitor has buttons and set to hdmi. Full list of what happened. I was using my other monitor but encountered an issue running games so I attempted to install windows 11 via usb. A DX issue or graphics card issue and figured windows 11 would be a good upgrade.
However, I was unable to set the bios to boot usb due to the cracked screen. It didn’t turn on the second monitor by default.
I watched a TH-cam video on disconnecting the monitor cable from the motherboard which would put the new monitor as the primary. Which I did, but now my screen is black,
I had a windows 11 bootable usb plugged in and somehow installed it using text to speech accessibility. It was a miracle, however, when on the windows 11 desktop I attempted to install the sager drivers for NP7877PQ. It said windows 10 but figured it would be ok. The first driver was intel rapid storage (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver for Windows 10 64 BIT) which in retrospect was a bonehead move because now when I restarted the screen is black again, I don’t have the text to speech option and I can’t access anything.
Is there a feasible solution to fix without sending this in?

That could just be problems with your display settings? Try going to the home screen and right clicking anywhere on a black background space. Go to display settings and start messing with the settings. It could be a simple resolution problem or it could be problems with your laptop (out) display port.

My screen is not cracked or broken. But when I power it on, the screen doesn't light up at all. I got it to work with these methods on windows 7, but now it will not work since I got 10. I am at a loss, I need this laptop for my job.
