As someone dealing with narcissism and addiction myself, I know firsthand what a perfect storm this combination can be and how treatment-resistant it is.

"Communal narssicisst... having gained a sense of importance and virtue...sometimes dictates how others should quit the addictions they don't have in the first place!" got at my funny bone. But that's exactly how a self righteous Narc operates, unilaterally. A younger friend was rising in status and importance at the church that I had left many years prior. We were not in contact much when one day she telephoned me out of the blue inviting me along on a social to which I happily accepted... until she announced firmly, "YOU drive!" Without rhyme nor reason given that she too owns a car. "Would you mind if you drove?" would have sounded more human, no? Grandiosity so overblown it's crazy 🤨
Thanks for the name for the behaviour. You do use a fine comb for terms and with your smooth as butter delivery. Your viewers are treated to insights and knowledge well above our pay grade 🙏🙏

Harry Tiebout, a psychiatrist friend of Bill Wilson of AA, explains that alcoholics have some narcissistic characteristics. The only way they can tamp down those characteristics is with 12 Steps and finding a "power greater than themselves." The "power" is not the alcoholic and/or narcissist. This is mentioned in the book AA Comes of Age. Thank you for mentioning the "connection" between the two.....

Bill Wilson came from a small Vermont town near where I grew up & his amazing story is really about that surrender to a higher spiritual power. Asking humbly for help & listening to others’ stories are essential but narcissism is simply not about this level of awareness & authenticity

Wilson was a narcissist. The Orange papers are on the Internet.

@@caroleminke6116 I have borderline in the big city downtown and know plenty of other cluster-b...and lord lordy did we all find AA to be nauseting. Many of us are no long addicts...NONE of us were aided by AA..it made us worse. In my humble opinion its narcisisism of another kind...we are even expected to find a 'sponsor'... ie a mentor..ie a priest or pastor..no thank you unless she's super-hot. Then it might work on us lol.

@@TheListOf It must be a lot of you, in particular your dudes because our countries literally almost do not have obese males. As in...maybe 1 in 1,000. If its not gluttony its your fast food + car but something is definiitely wrong.

@stoneneils The point I'm making is that narcissistic people don't always have drug addictions. They have addictions to spending and eating. Why you're talking off subject is questionable. Narcissists exist all over the world.

Quite a number of recovering alcoholics with success on Twitter or X.
Most don't sound narcissistic at all.
    We can applaud their successes.
It is so much of a cultural thing. It affects the lungs in the long run. It damages the airways.

I believe it. My grandmother didn't drink but smoked until she got dementia in her 80's. She died at 95. Maybe smoking does that?

This was the Ex. An addict in recovery who believed He was Some kind of a Super Human species. He would go on and on about going to the Gym, How strong He was, how healthy He was and How dare anyone even light a Cigarette in his presence he used to go Mad whenever someone smoked near Him. Attempted and failed t make me feel bad for having a Glass of wine with a Meal. All this from an addict who sleeps around unprotected with all sorts yet brags about how seriously he takes his health and what he puts in his body. A complete and utter joke of. A so called Man. Clown 🤡 mentality. 😜

Take it from me at 55..if a man needs to go to the gym daily he's wrong.

I've been addicted to crack..100k per year for a 2-3 years TWICE in my life..that addiciton was NOTHING in terms of mental health compared to TH-cam addiction. This site is 1000x more damaging...I'd switch back to crack if I could. No joke.
