    Tavarish, we recommended that you speak with Wayne at ISC at the beginning of April. This was due to the fact that the car could be in need of a lot of work to get it up and running, depending on what had happened to it prior to your ownership. Once again we highly recommend approaching a tuner who has experience working with not only our ECU's but possibly the Lamborghini kits themselves. Our offer still stands to have the loom and ECU tested for free.

    Drive by wire position failure means that you need to recalibrate the position of the gas paddle with the throttle body. ignition on, hold pressed gas paddle for 2 min (completely pressed till its max and exactly 2 min ) release the gas paddle, wait 5 sec, ignition off and that should work.

      It's possible that all it needs is calibrating to eliminate the error code, but I'm not convinced that's why it doesn't rev past 2500.

    • @brkooduh66
      @brkooduh66 6 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      OMGWTFLOL 2500rpm seems like a reasonable fail-safe for a throttle and/or pedal position failure

    • @WarpDriveM
      @WarpDriveM 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      OMGWTFLOL it can't rev because it's a difference between the position of gas paddle and throttle and computer doesn't know how to handle 2 inputs for the same action. Conflict (error). For example if u push just a little bit the gas paddle 5% the throttle should open same 5% but if the rest position is different it's gonna cut aer to prevent damage.

    Fuel composition
    "When FlexFuel is set to ENABLED, various base map selection options function differently. For example the four base fuel maps are considered to be two pairs of (0% Ethanol, 100% Ethanol) maps that are blended according to the measured fuel composition." (Re: SSuite User Guide v1.1)

    First and fore most!!!! Have a good and fully charged battery before doing ANY electronic investigation on a badly running car. A weak battery can cause issues of its own.

    • @armelind
      @armelind 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I watch a lot of tuner vids and car repair and diagnostic vids. I watched a tuner chase a problem with a sensor all over (they said for a couple hours) only to find out they had a weak battery and a bad ground somewhere. Once they cleaned & tightened the ground and cleaned battery terminals and swapped in new battery, their issues were gone.

  • @203joeroganMCL
    @203joeroganMCL 6 ปีที่แล้ว +205

    U switched from e85 to 93 and left the tune. E85 flows like 30% more over gasoline, but burns faster, so ur pumping in 30% more gasoline that cant burn fast enough which would explain why it smells rich and the pinging could be incorrect timing igniting a little of the unburnt gas. Idk why u drained e85 and put in 93. They are different fuels and not knowing anything about the tune i wouldnt of changed that factor out of fear of weeks of chasing a problem i poured in

    • @singlemalt1972
      @singlemalt1972 6 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Hence the flex fuel sensor - the computer adjusts the tune depending on the fuel composition. The error suggests the sensor is faulty so the computer does not know the fuel mix and cannot adjust to compensate.

      Richard Cranium he changed the fuel because when gas ages it loses almost all its properties in the fluid, which happens to all types of petrol whether it be 93 or E85, it was actually smarter of him to replace it.

    • @joshjones5172
      @joshjones5172 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Daniel Sinnott Many people will use the aftermarket ECU and tune it for E85 only, you get much more HP running E85 than 93 when tuned properly.

    • @jimmy5003
      @jimmy5003 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Ian Miller Absolutely Agree. But Tavarish should have replaced the old with some new E85 as the ECU was tuned for E85 and not 93

    "Error Code P0179 is defined as Fuel Composition Sensor Circuit High Input. This means the PCM (powertrain control module, or also known as ECM or engine control module) has detected an abnormally high voltage from the fuel composition sensor (flex fuel sensor) or circuit."
    EDIT
    "drive-by-wire throttle position failure" is caused by a bad throttle position sensor.

    • @andyc7724
      @andyc7724 6 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      The easy way to confirm that it's the flex fuel sensor would be to disconnect it and see if some other error code then appears on the laptop. If so, then just plug it back in again and look elsewhere. If there's no additional code, chances are you've found the sensor that's not working for whatever reason.
      It's possible that it's gummed up with old fuel and just needs a clean.

      Also note, that the TPS most likely requires calibration. The sensor may be okay, just not calibrated. I just did a TPS replacement on my Honda. Tavarish, you'll need to figure out what value the TPS should read with the foot completely off the gas and with it fully depressed, then you adjust the sensor by turning it left/right until the values are right and then torque down the bolts. At least, this is the procedure on a Honda. A bad/uncalibrated TPS sensor causes idle issues in most cars. Addressing this should be your first step.

    If the ECU isn't getting a signal from the fuel composition sensor it can't distinguish what type of fuel is in the tank. The ECU will most likely richen the mixture for safety (fat is safe) and run in limp mode. The sensor may be damaged due to e85 sitting in it for so many years or you may have a wiring issue to the ECU. BTW use a test light to probe the ends of the fuses not a multimeter. If one side of the fuse is grounded (short to ground) it will pop the fuse inside your multimeter. Also if the other fault you are getting - drive by wire position failure- is from the is from the throttle position, the ECU will go into limp mode as well.

    2 step isn't like anti-lag, it's like a RPM limiter you can set for launches. So your normal limiter is at 8000 or wherever and 2step moves it to wherever you want like 5000 if that's what you want for launching the car. Anti lag just sends fuel into the manifold to explode and spin the turbos. just some info :)

    Hey Tavarish! First of all I would like to say your channel is great and this build is really interesting!
    I imagine you will be running your Lambo in your garage a lot while you figure out it's tune. I STRONGLY advise that you set up some form of ducting from the exhaust to vent the fumes out of your garage. I suffered debilitating brain damage as a result of exhaust fumes. It is really surprising how quickly your brain can get damaged from carbon monoxide. The damage is often permanent and life changing.
    Even with the garage door open you will build up a lot of fumes very quickly! It would be worth getting a carbon monoxide detector in the work shop as well. Get one with a digital read out, preferably with a low level monitoring mode to give you advanced warning of any dangerous levels of carbon monoxide and a peak level function is handy too.
    Anyway I hope you read this and take it seriously! I wish someone had told me about this risk, my life has been severely changed as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.
    Good luck with the rest of the build, I can't wait to see it finished!

    Any idea who tuned the car previously? If you can't track them down, you may have to start with a clean slate when it comes to the tune since you've changed so many things on the car. The last thing you'd want is for the car to go lean when trying to drive it and pop the engine. A good dyno tune would be money well spent and would also make for a good future episode.

      Not to mention putting 93 in a car that was running on e85. He might know if the ECU has a flex fuel sensor automatically adjusting for it, but who knows? I feel like I would, at the very least, connect to the ECU and see what's going on with it.

    • @y2ksierra
      @y2ksierra 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tavarish good deal. Hopefully it is somewhat simple to figure out. If you aren't throwing any codes, other than the possible flex fuel sensor, it does make it much tougher to figure out. How does this car measure air coming into the engine? I would probably start there if you aren't throwing any other obvious codes. I had a MAF issue once where my Z06 would simply fall on its face any time you gave it gas. Turned out, a piece of foam was against the MAF sensor wires! Hopefully yours will end up something simple like that as well, good luck!

      Adam M exactly this. If that motor and the tune for it was built around E85, running regular gas can potentially do lots of harm. E85, under boost applications, can handle lots more timing, and do it safely with out detonation. He's running the risk of punching a hole in the top of a piston otherwise.

      Wait a min why didn't he start it off with e85 from the beginning if that's what it had the 93 will throw off the map that he had set on e85 due to the duty cycle of how much fuel is needed bc it takes almost twice as much e85 to make as much as gasoline. I would suggest draining again and putting e85 and see if it clears up.

      Can a 1000hp tt lambo even run on 93 octane? My knowledge of petrol is limited, but it sounds like shitty fuel. But I dont know how much compression there is.

    • @radbug
      @radbug 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This advice is dumb. Higher octane only prevents compression ignition. If its already tuned for 85 then you could put 120 in there and it wouldnt matter. It only matters in the opposite direction. If it were tuned for 91 and you put 85 in it, THEN you might have compression ignition. Elsewise Octane has no other effect on your engine

    • @Platfod1
      @Platfod1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not giving advice, I was asking a question. But you do realise that e85 is not 85 octane it is way higher, I found a source stating as high as 105. Reason for my question was that here in my country you cant even buy 93 anymore, so to me it sounds as a very poor fuel for a performance engine.

    Fuel composition is the content of Alcohol in the gas. You need to test for voltage and ground to your Flex Fuel sensor. If you have both and the wire is making continuity from the sensor to the ecu then you should replace the sensor. It should just be a plain old GM sensor like I'm running on my E36 with a Megasquirt 3 Pro standalone.
    You also need to relearn the throttle bodies.

    Maybe it's tuned for E85 only? Also, anti-lag isn't the same thing as 2-step. 2-step is used for launching when at a stand still, setting the car at a particular RPM and getting on the gas to spool the turbo, and accelerate at maximum boost. Anti-lag is fuel going into the exhaust and combusting in there to keep the turbo spinning at maximum speed.

    Even easier way to check fuses - start the car, grab a test light/circuit tester, clip the cable to a ground point, and just touch the tiny exposed metal spots on each side of each fuse. If it lights up when touching both sides of the fuse, it's good. if it lights up only touching one side, the fuse is bad. If it doesn't light up at all, the fuse isn't powered. Only takes a few seconds and can identify failed fuses in no time.

    • @bryanluhning6346
      @bryanluhning6346 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      RhodyJeff an easier method is to set dvm to 12v range and read across the outer fuse connections while power is applied. If reading is approximately zero fuse is good. If you read 12v fuse is blown. Explanation; if fuse is good there is essentially a short across the fuse and there is no voltage difference. If the fuse is bad the voltage difference would be the entire 12v.

    • @mmcerlane
      @mmcerlane 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the ignition on, Use a multimeter meter set to voltage, clip one side to ground, then read the voltage on each side of the installed fuse. Should read 12 v on both sides.

      (i dont know if it is ture or not) but when I worked in a automotive electronic workshop I was told "NEVER USE A TEST LIGHT IN A FUSE BOX" because some airbag systems can use a ground signal or loss of positive to trigger and deploy the airbags. And introducing a ground through a test light can be enough to trigger them. And that could be very bad news if you were in the blast zone. (Some test lights use resistors and leds and may be safe. I am refering to a incandescent globe type test light)

    Hey +Tavarish, I think the o2 sensors are in the wrong position, let me explain why:
    Originally you should have 4 sensors, 2 for the left bank, and 2 for the right bank. One should be in front of the catlic converter, this one adjust a/f ratio, the other does nothing but checking if the catlic converter does its job. Running only 2 sensors is only possible if the ECU is set up to only use 2 sensors, and if so, >> they must obviously be connected to the correct connectors, the ones that are originally were the ones in front of the cat. > Make sure o2 sensors are directly after the turbo, before the point both exhaust pipes are connected

    • @fitmale

      I was about to comment effectively the same thing. I can't speak definitively to the Lambo version of the motor, or the S12, but I know that the stock Audi V10 ECUs were made as two independent 5 cylinder motors, two crank sensors, etc. Each bank was managed independently. If that is the case with this build, then the O2 sensors would absolutely need to be positioned ahead of the crossover.... which dosn't give you a lot of space.

    The drive by wire is basically your throttle so your car is haveing trouble knowing the actual position of your throttle and that is also another reason it would die because throttle control air flow into the intake and that’s another thing that comes into effect in the whole running right deal

  • @hooskworks

    Fuel composition will be your flex fuel sensor. It needs to know the ethanol content of the fuel so it can blend the pump gas and e85 fuel and ignition maps correctly for whatever fuel you have. Sounds like that is what's causing the rough idle and dying.
    Throttle position will be a throttle body or pedal related, they're closed loop things so the ECU knows where the pedal wants the throttle butterfly to be, where it has asked the throttle body to move the butterfly to and knows where it has gotten to. Drive by wire pedals tend to have dual position sensors for redundancy and the same for the throttle body. If any of these things stop agreeing with all the others then you know you've got an issue of some kind. If it's a warning rather than an error then I'd guess a position sensor has failed but the system still can work in some capacity because of the redundancy.

That issue was fixed by the purge valve replacement as well.

    Hey Tavarish...one of the things you will want to do with the software is called a "throttle body adaptation". It's a self-check/reset process that the ecu does and actuates the throttle body. Working on VW and Audi, this often is a easy command that works through the Vagcom software. Worth checking into.

      it's a standalone ecu, won't have those security stuff, unless someone REALLY perfectionist spent A LOT of time programming them in. very unlikely. and if it was, it would have told him that was the issue ;)

      Boring... No one likes dealing with the dealership sure they made the car but they didn't make the aftermarket mods. TH-cam would be a boring place is everyone swore by their preferred dealership, we'd also have less diversity of cars.

    Found this on google.
    A motor vehicle fuel composition sensor is responsive to a dielectric constant of a mixture of two fuels such as gasoline and methanol to indicate the relative concentrations of each.

  • @jbettcher1
    @jbettcher1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    High idle with rich mixes is sometimes the sign of a vacuum leak/intake leak after the mass air flow sensor(s). The other thing to check is if you can reset the ECM for ethanol content calibration. Since the last time it was running it had E85 it calibrated the air fuel ratio for that fuel.

    If i were you, check the resistance for the throttle position sensor. Then check the resistance for the accelerator pedal position sensor. Thats what the drive by wire system entails. Reference that to factory resistance specifications. You may need to backprobe them. If theyre off, you may need to replace said sensors. And about that flex fuel sensor, it looks like its dead. Replacement reccomended

    5:19 My mom was the supervisor of final test at the Tyco plant that made those relays. She tested every relay before it left the plant. She likely held those relays in her hands. My cousin took over the position in 2012 so if they were made after that she's the one that tested them. It's crazy how small the world is.
