    You should make sure all of the injectors are working at full capacity, I would get them flow tested. E85 destroys them sitting for long periods, just a heads up! Definitely don't want to pop that thing because of something dumb like an injector! My buddies only sat for 6 months and his injectors were toast from the E.

    Always do inside to outside. That way if the valve cover is warped you flatten it as you go versus potentially having the center high and and forcing it down where it won’t seal as well.

    Always start from the center. If there is a bow somewhere and you tighen the corners first ; you have just locked the bow in place. If you start from the middle, it pulls the mating faces together across the lengrh.

      That's what I learned, is there ever an exception?

    • @sw96
      @sw96 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's always an exception somewhere, if you've got the factory manual for your car always follow the pattern they describe/show, it may not be 100% necessary but it should have the least chance of going wrong. In the absence of any information starting from the center and working in a spiral outwards is what I was taught, it usually works well for valve covers, oil pans and I've even seen it as the factory pattern for some cylinder heads (I would add though that I'd never do a head without knowing the correct pattern for that engine model, just not worth fucking that up).

    I wanted to let you know that a torque wrench is accurate in its middle range.
    The lower values and higher values are much less accurate.
    I use an inch-pound torque wrench for lower value torques to get more accuracy. I do this especially for valve covers and engines that are mostly aluminum.
    I learned this after 40+ years of wrenching everyday.
    Hope this helps.

    One thing I know about most car conglomerates; is that from cheap to exotic - there is a lot of parts and expendables commonality. So chances are excellent a lot of the stuff youre spending madd money on has inexpensive alternatives.
    Remember your Aston Martin key fob made for Volvo?
    Here is another money making idea: publish directories of those common parts (w/synced part numbers).

  • @wreak3r
    @wreak3r 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Well if you are going with factory standards you are required to torque pretty much every single bolt that goes into the car. It has to do with the elasticity of the bolt and it locking to the threads. I can't fully recall since last time I worked at a car assembly plant and took classes on torque was in 2009.

    Cheers for explaining where this milky thing is coming from. I just restarted my RX8 that I had put in in the shed for the winter. And there was the same thing on the dip stick, and I couldnùt understand where it came from, because I have no compression problems (= no seal problems, on a rotary).
    I run 95-e10 from time to time to clean the engine. So this explains this.

  • @ne2i

    One of the main benefits of a dry sump system is the scavenging of oil away from the crankshaft. This keeps the oil from being beaten to a foam by the crankshaft. This keeps air bubbles out of the oil and gives your PCV system an easier time at separating the air from the oil. This is needed to keep the oil pump from cavitating and your bearings fully lubricated with pure oil (no air). Airplanes are the main users of dry sump systems.

    • @fraymond3
      @fraymond3 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've always heard the oil likes to "wrap" around the crankshaft, hence the use of crank scrapers, windage trays etc. and aeration would be a result of overfilling the engine with oil. Either way, dry sump systems are good stuff.

    • @JusttheEdge
      @JusttheEdge 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ZatoichisCaneSword! Yeah if your crank is hitting the oil it's definitely overfilled. Dry sumps are mainly for high g forces and to mount the engine lower to get a lower center of gravity.

    As it appears like you could use a variety of coolant overflow tanks, you may just return that VW one (if you can) and then look around for a more translucent one that you could mount more easily where you want it. I get that you want it as close to stock as possible, but Lamborghini wasn't thinking about the customers doing their own wrenching. As you will be doing the wrenching, you could make choices that suit your needs better than the dealer mechanics that have all the perfect tools for this Italian heap of cheese...

    Tavarish, agree with you re - torquing the gearbox bell housing bolts. Tight and nipped with your torque elbow is sufficient.
    However, if you're in a situation where you need to torque up a bolt to a certain spec that you can't get a socket on sometimes you can use a "crows foot" wrench attached to a torque wrench. There are tables you can get online to correct the torque rating you dial into the torque wrench as the measured torque would obviously multiplied by the length of the crows foot.

I think they film over in Tampa area, right? Ok...a stretch, but he does amazing work.

    Again those holes are there for visual inspection of clutch wear and throw out bearing wear / movement. They did not come with grommets in them. The only grommets are on the 2 holes on the bottom of the bellhousing.

    When a motor sits it can build up moisture in it. Change the oil in it and put fresh oil in it.

    Copper spark plugs give better performance. The larger electrode transmits heat away better. They use the tiniest little pinpoint of an electrode on the platinums and iridiums to save money on such an expensive metal, but because that point is so small it acts as a concentrated heat source and causes detonation, so your knock sensor will detect that and pull timing which reduces performance and efficiency.

    • @noonergarage4114

      sirgallium immediately came to the comments to say the same thing!!! Boost is better on copper plugs!!!

    • @moniack
      @moniack 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have heard the same.

    • @jamest5149
      @jamest5149 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not totally true, the Pt or Ir plugs use a point to concentrate the spark, this makes for less misfires, also you get plugs that run at the same heat range i.e same temperature.

    • @noonergarage4114
      @noonergarage4114 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      James Templeman 1,000+ horsepower turbo motors will have a lot better tuning window on plain old copper plugs, especially motors already built and tuned to run on such.

    • @jamest5149
      @jamest5149 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not going to argue with your experience but I will say mine has been very different, snuffing the spark out at high boost levels has been more of a problem then detonation from hot plugs or melted electrodes

    One thing with the valve gaskets I found to help is to tighten the screws in baby steps to help the gasket seat. With that, when you go through and torque the bolts down to spec, if you go back through, you'll find that they aren't at the torque you tightened them to because the valve cover was seated further downward. I had success chasing the bolts with the torque wrench a second time.

      When my wife Is coming home with lug nuts 2 piece system that are all chewed up and expanded on her 2015 ford fusion with 45k miles on it i would have to disagree. My jetta has 160k miles on it and the only issue I've had other than standard maintenance( brakes, new tires, oil change, ect.) Is replacing a steel rim after I hit a deep pothole at night and bent the rim. 3 times the miles with the only issue being my fault. Which is why I'll take a jetta any day over a ford

    • @KFed016
      @KFed016 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not to mention I do all my service on my jetta and it costs pennies. If you do your own work you save a lot of money and don't have shops trying to rip you off.

    Dry sump is actually mainly used for high revving engines, not because of G-Forces -- because there are wet sump pans that will reduce sloshing of the oil in the pan--..The oil will aerate and reduce the lubricating qualities on wet sump pumps at high RPM's, this will occur less on dry sump. Dry sump will as well reduce the load on the crankshaft, increasing the power output of the engine.

    I have a 2010 Audi S6 which has the 5.2 V10 and have had to replace the stock oil filter housing which is basically a remote relocation tube from where it connects in the V of the engine. Who knows, maybe you can modify it to work. Worth looking into. Love the content, keep it up!

    I do gut and tight all the time in my job as a Automotive Service Tech. You definitely have to know where it's in important and where you can just snug things. You were right in your last video about engine components being vital. Especially on these new crazy metal castings they are coming up with, a lot of these alloys can distort very easy with the wrong torque. The most important part of the bell housing bolts is that they are clamping the transmission/transaxle onto the engine and that the correct number is there for sheer force.
