This video was super helpful. My washer is only 2-3 years old, and hasn't been making weird noise, so I didn't think it was the pump, but I had no idea how to get to the inside to check. Once I followed his instructions on how to get to the internals, I found my problem. The little hose that runs from the door gasket drain to the rest of the drainage system has 2 elbows. We have 5 pets. I took off that little hose and viola! Packed solid with pet hair and dirt/mud. Took an old wire coat hanger and used it as a pipe cleaner, and we are back in business. I can't say thank you enough for this video. And your tip on getting that gasket spring monstrosity back on was a lifesaver.

Just completed this job, everything was exactly as you laid out in the video. It's next level that you include the small tips such as the push tab under the pump and how to get the door boot gasket spring clamp back on (I've spent frustrating amounts of time on little steps that the folks leave out of their videos). This should be the standard by which all DIY videos strive to attain! Thank you and well done!

I scouted several videos before starting this project and this was BY FAR the most detailed video I could locate. Thank you so much for creating this video. It took me a little less than an hour to disassemble, change out the pump, and reassemble. The most difficult aspect was getting the bellow spring around the rubber when reinstalling. As a woman in her 50's, my hand strength is a bit weak so the screwdriver trick didn't work for me, however, grabbing and pulling on one end of the spring with sturdy pliers did the trick. I had already ordered a replacement washer for $740 and I was able to cancel that order thanks to your video. A part that was less than $30 fixed the problem. Sincere gratitude to you for sharing this information!

We tried this and took 2 hours but was worth it. Both of our families told us to just buy a new one but was so much cheaper to buy the part for £30 rather than spend £500. We struggled to get the back pipe back on without pliers which took about 30 minutes and used kitchen tongs but managed by putting the metal attachment on the pipe and then wiggling it onto the plastic part on the pump. Thanks so much!

Awesome video. our work washer got clogged and the pump failed. Plus we taught a few young ladies that women can fix stuff too.

Thrilled with this video - you guys saved me quite a bit of money! I even ordered the part from you - it got here promptly within the week. Replaced the pump, put it all back together and to my delight and relief, it worked normally. Thanks again.
For those looking to do this, I'll share my two main frustrations, both come during the reassembly of the washing machine once you've replaced the part. The first, and worst, frustration, is trying to get the hose clamp on the main pump drain hose back on. It's very stiff and the pump is located in a difficult to get to part of the washer, once it's back in. No matter what I did I couldn't hold that thing open while re-attaching the hose and trying to maneuver the clamp into the right spot. Did a little research to find a cheat and discovered there are special hose clamp tools you buy, mostly from auto parts outfits, that make it trivial. I got the tools for $15 off Amazon.
Second frustration was the bellow spring, which he speaks to in the video. I used the method he shows in the video to put it back in, but even still it was very difficult and took me many tries and much cursing. It worked in the end - all the trouble was definitely worth the money I saved. Thanks again Lorain Furniture and Appliance!

Absolutely amazing video, thanks for putting this together!!
To get the pump out on my model, WM3670HVA, there’s no pull tab to get the pump assembly out. Instead there’s three 10mm bolts that have to come out. Once those are out then disconnect the wiring plugs on the side of the housing assembly and lastly you have to remove the 3 screws to get the pump assembly off the metal mounting bracket.

    Mistakes made -
1 - The front of the washer has sharpe edges sliced some fingers.

Brilliant video, I just did my drain pump this morning in 1 hour and 30 minutes following this video. I not only saved my self a pile of $, but got it fixed way sooner. Im very rural so waiting for the appliance guys takes 1 week at least , and another week if they have to order parts.
I got my pump off amazon and bought a pair of spring spreading pliers while I was there, well worth the $20CAD for the pliers
Thanks for this video, very clear and concise
The only difference on my LG was how the pump mounted, it was on a metal chassis retained by 3 bolts with rubber isolators bolted to the base of the washing machine. Easy to remove though.
I use zip lock snack bags to hold the different screws and label each bag with a sharpie. makes sure everything goes back where it came from.
Also Your LG washer self test video was very helpful for me to test my work and my new pump without doing a full wash.
    Cheers!

Superb video. This is the third time I took my washing machine apart for repairs. The first was to replace the spider arm (a nightmare - not recommended unless you are extremely ambitious). The second time was to replace the drain pump. I went with a video that shows how to do it from below without taking off the front panels. Very difficult and tedious in may opinion. I suspect I didn't get the pump back on completely snug and it eventually started leaking. Re-did it using this video. Way easier overall. They make a special tool to stretch the spring for the boot clamp. Only about $10-15 dollars; well worth it in my opinion compared to trying to do it with a couple of screwdrivers; otherwise you will almost certainly be crying for a second pair of hands to help you. Any reasonably handy person can replace the drain pump using this video. One of the best repair videos available.

Thank you for the video. Very straight to the point. My washer had a little metal tray that the pump sits held on by 10mm bolts. Need a socket extension for these. It was also difficult to get out of there. I replaced the pump, which was no good and put it all back together except for the retaining ring for the tub gasket. I have tried several times and think I will have to get a spreader tool to do this, the spring is just too stiff.

You rock! This was the perfect fix for my machine. It took me awhile to remove the top front panel.. I think I was worried about breaking the clips or the panel, but it removed exactly the way you showed in your video. Replacing the pump went smoothly and was much easier than expected. It's also important to manage your screws when you remove them so you know what goes where. The toughest part for me was putting the ring back around the rubber on the front of the machine. Following your video I put the rubber back in place and it fit snuggly. I put the spring of the ring at the bottom and put the ring inside the rubber groove 3/4 of the way with ease, but could not get the last portion of the ring in the groove. It was frustrating so I took a break. When I tried again, I used a small plastic scraper in my left hand to allow the spring to stretch while holding it in place and worked the last right corner of the ring into the groove using a screwdriver in my right hand as demonstrated in the video. Well, that worked for me. Wow! So, I'm going to say to any woman over 66 like me doing this repair, getting the ring back around the rubber of the washing machine opening might be an issue. Anyway, it's nice to have my machine running in tip top condition again. Thank you!

Nice! was able to fix my washing machine, kept throwing OE error, pump looked ok, but after replacing it, no more problems. One thing I recommend is cleaning the hose on the bottom of the loading door. It's a small L shape rubber hose that held down w/ clamps. After taking mine out, I found it to be clogged w/ dirt and debris. It's one of the reasons for foul smell in the rubber between the door.

An update to the process. Most of the instructions were in alignment, but as with different models and model years some items will be different. We have a combo washer/dryer and the pump assembly is attached by three floating bolts to the frame. This video gets you through the most difficult pathways, and the rest you can figure out with logic. So a very helpful guide in all.

Best video by far! Our model of washing machine had a metal bracket instead of the white plastic clip you mentioned to detach, which held the motor but after removing those 3 screws it was all good. Thank you for the detailed instructions!

Found this video as a search result and was incredibly impressed with your instruction, specifically how it was delivered. I haven’t resolved my issue, but your process of elimination suggests my pump is out.
Do you have any cleaning and maintenance suggestions to perform while the washer is all torn apart? I feel like it would be a missed opportunity. Thank you!

I already knew how to change the drain pump I prefer to go from underneath the washer. What I did learn from you was the diagnostic running the washer through the cycles and for that I thank you very much. Unfortunately I get the OE code once in a while for some reason and every time I check everything out to find nothing wrong. Thank u for the information.

I watched this video so that I could fix my washer! I ordered from your link. I had a few more screws than yours, but the main problem was the bolts holding in the drain pump. There was no tab. But besides that one unexpected difficulty, our washer is up and running. Thank you!

Same issue here with bolts instead of tab. How did you get the front left bolt out? I can reach the right and back one.

If you use a ratchet with a 3 inch extension you can get all three. 10mm. Then there are 4 screws to remove it from the mount. I would recommend removing all hoses and wires before removing the mount.

I'm almost done. Here's some rookie tips. I took a piece of cardboard and with each step I screwed each screw into the cardboard and then wrote a brief note where it was from. This way I just had to work from the bottom up replacing them.
Not counting the three pump screws there are 21.
To put the motor back on the pump, I painted white lines (use witeout, I had a paint marker), but mark one of them with two lines. It's very easy to get this wrong.
Also my machine was jammed from a heavy cotton black out drape probably 14' by 10'. It completely turned to lint. Clogged everything up. When I got everything apart the drain hose from the drum was still jammed. I eased this out with a soft aluminum wire (house wire #12 or #14 folded in half so no sharp edge would also work), I milked it loose and then poured water into the drum. Very messy but cleared it.
The hoses and the spring clips are a real pain. I wonder if there's an easier way or a tool. All my pliers would just slide off these nasty things. (Probably some kind of tubes that slip over the ends?)
The retaining wire for the rubber gasket was really difficult. I've done these before. This was a bear. An extra pair of hands would help. The way I got some slack was like putting a bicycle tire back on. I made a small loop in some wire, hooked the loop where you were working it and pulled on and worked it down to the spring.
Running it on Drum clean. Seems to be working! Thank you.

You helped me a LOT. My husbad wasnt around but with your help I fixed the issue. Just one thing, you get the OE notice after a program is done, so everyone should be careful because after I "drained" the wmachine with the cord and tried remove the filter around 5L washing water leaked out from my machine. I live in an apartment complex so taking the machine outside wasnt an option.. So anyone who have similar problem, bring a lot of towel 😂

Absolutely brilliant video. I'm now almost looking forward to digging into this.
I have a large piece of heavy black cotton used in the movie industry to black out windows. I thought I'd throw it in the washer, give it a clean. And to be a good boy I set it to hot. I t stopped, "OE," and inside was a black soup with only the sewn seam remaining, everything else turned to soaked lint like mud. Thank you for this video.

This video is awesome!! Very helpful. We changed the drain pump with no problem but the OE code did not go away. After a lot of thinking, research and phone calls we had a service man come out. In the beginning of this video you mention that there could also be another pump, a recirculating pump. Yep, that was our problem. It makes no sense and no one ever mentioned that that pump would be included in an OE error. I felt the need to leave this message to possibly help others that might be having the same problem.

Just to be clear, at 5:04, the tab is on the bottom surface of the machine. Press it down towards the floor and slide the pump away from you.

This happened to me this morning went to Amazon and got a new drain pump should be here tomorrow and will see what happens. I got the pump installed today and everything worked out pretty good and my washer works great and it’s draining water out perfectly thanks for posting this video. I almost went to Costco to fork $600 for a new washer since we’ve had my washer since 2013.

Great video. One suggestion..... it MAY be that exhaust hose. We had standing water in the tub. I used a cup to get as much out until I stumbled on your video. I then tried to drain with that little hose - no luck. Long story short.... both that hose AND the main exhaust hose was full of sand/gunk. I blew them both out, and verified they were clear before putting the system back together. I will probably still order a pump, in case the blockage took off a few years off the pump.

Just cleaned my filter too, which was gross. Did that fix your issue or did you have to replace the pump, too? I want to test it to see if that was in fact the issue, but I’m afraid to do a load.

    • @thelonelyislandfann

If it isn’t fixed, the washer just won’t run. You’ll get the OD or OE code. But with what he said, my filter was clearly a problem, so I was pretty confident.
