You just saved us about $350 in repair costs....if we could even find anyone to service our washing machine....ordered the new hall sensor from Amazon, received next day and washing machine was in perfect order within 24 hours of breaking down! Thank you for this video!!
Thanks! After 30 minutes with tech support who said to call a technician, your video let me fix the problem on my own in 30 minutes. The local appliance store even had the part in stock.
I replaced the hall sensor purchasing from amazon for less than $10 and it really worked!!! Thank you so much! And when calling the LG tech support they claimed it’s the motor and will cost me $350-$410 and in that case i was thinking just to buy a new one instead… but thanks to this video i only spent less then $10 and works great exactly as it shows in the video!! Can’t thank him enough!!
I don’t know how to test it. Just watching the video I ordered the sensor from Amazon as it said in the video, was less than $10, and just decided to try to change it to see if it helps because the worse I would only loose less than $10. But it worked after changing the hole sensor and my machine has been working perfectly fine ever since. Thank you again for posting very helpful information!!!!!ℹ️
Our 11 years LG washing machine broke down and we did call up a tech guy to check on it. The tech guy says it's not worthy to repair it and suggested us to go for a new one. But we just wanna give it a try on DIY fixing it, no harm trying. Thats when we watched your video and follow through. And when we put all the parts back and fire up the machine, it works like magic! Thanks for the video, much appreciated!
Many techs are not trained well. They go around telling people their machines are not worth fixing and collect diagnostic fees. Good for you getting the job done
This worked! I have a different LG model, different part number for the sensor but got the part number from the one in my machine. I followed your straightforward instructions, fixed our washing machine and I’m now my wife’s hero. Thank you, sir!
Thanks! You saved me few hundreds of dollars for labor repairs and wife looking to me as a hero (again). I might get my reward soon 😊. I’m hoping that your unselfish way of doing this for the common good will bring you more blessings than having people finding for repairmans like you instead.
Cannot thank you enough for your perfect and explanatory directions. We received the $10.00 part and fixed our washing machine word for word from what you said. We saved hundreds f dollars I’m sure as compared to having to call a repair person. THANK YOU for providing your expertise and directions! My best, Margaret
You are the man!! Fix worked just like you described. Saved me from caving on buying a new washer and made me a hero to the wife. Thanks for the lesson!
Update: I finally got the bolt out. Your step by step instructions were easy to follow. They worked 💯! I really appreciate your efforts in helping people like me who want to be more self sufficient! Thank you! Thank you!
The hardest part of this whole job was getting that center bolt out! Everything else was a breeze! Our washer is running like new! I love a DIY repair that doesn’t break the bank! Thank you!!
Thank you so much for providing this video and also for being straight and to the point (not making it excruciatingly long like some other videos tend to be). Like a lot of the comments on here, I was getting an error message and ordered a part from Amazon (the shipping may have been more than the part itself). Last night we took the plunge and decided to take a stab at replacing the hall sensor, while watching your video. The washing machine is working...at the moment! Even if my washing machine breaks down again, you already saved me another trip to the Laundromat. More importantly, you have restored confidence in my handiwork abilities, which is priceless.
Thanks, I followed your instructions to fix my machine. I called a mechanic service and they were going to charge more than £300-£400. I ordered it online for £60, and spent 30 min to fix it.
Many thanks for this video, you have saved me from buying a new machine. I paid a person $80 dollars to tell me it couldn’t be fixed and $20 for the part you recommended. Everything is working now
7/16/2024: I followed your video instructions, and I'm glad to say that your guidance was spot on as the solution worked the first time. You made it a very pleasant experience, and the replacement part was less than $10 to resolve the LE error. Getting the tech here just to to diagnose the issue was going to cost $119. Sweat equity did it. Many thanks for the assist! ✌
Thank you for the video! Simple and straight forward with no fillers! Save me hundreds from calling someone. For others who might run into this, the magnetized rotor was really strong. I had to use a lot of strength and some twisting and turning motion to finally pull it away from he stator. Everything else was smooth sailing just like the video.
Thanks!, this repair worked wonderfully. I had bought another LG washer as a replacement but using this video I was able to repair my 10 yo LG washer, now I have a backup in the garage.
Absolutely fantastic video and you saved us a lot $$$. I was told that no one in our area services LG's anymore and the ones that do, were charging a minimum of $150 just for the service call. I got the part (mine was slightly different so only $11) and it worked like a charm!! Thank you so much for this video! You have really helped so many of us!! Double Kudos!!
Thanks! It worked perfectly for my LG WM3170CW with the part number: 6501KW2002A. My only tip is before start removing the part that covers all copper wires, spin it manually to have a feeling how it is before you do any change, feel and memorize how it spins, so when you put it together you have the same feeling. Also for the noise that it makes or it doesn't make.
Thank you so much for posting this video!! This is exactly was was happening w/ my washing machine exact same make and model! We ordered the part from Amazon you had posted and my husband fixed our machine in like 30 mins!!!
This guys instructions were dead on. I ordered the relacement sensor from Amazon, replaced the old sensor and my LG Washing Machine is spinning like new!

Om test may pass inspection and the hall sensor might still be bad. In the case of the one in my video it passed the om test but the plastic clips were stretched making it loose. If it is loose it will be off position. Problem is not always electronic
Hi, The video looks very useful. I was attempting to fix my LG washing machine with this LE error code with this video. Opened the back access panel. But the 17mm rotor nut seems extremely tight. Unable to loosen it, even with good 17mm wrench. Any way to loosen the rotor center nut? Thanks in advance...
I had to fix this issue also 😶 on Kenmore/LG washer. Some repair person told me the whole stator was bad and wanted to charge me a fortune for it. I knew that was not the problem, but he was all attitudes. So I sent him home and left him a bad review on Yelp.
I have a LG Tromm , washer , bought it like 15 years ago , has been an excellent washer , my wife had a fleece blanket in it and she said it was not spinning , essentially , whenever it tries to rotate , it swings back and forth and it makes a squeal or two , has sort of this knocking sound , and it DOES NOT throw a code. Just continually does this. I went ahead and replaced the hall sensor with the same problem still existing , so it was not the hall sensor. However when I did take the magnet off the back , I did notice a slight bit of wear on the inside , and I did notice a small sliver of what felt metal on the splines when I removed it , but the plastic splines looked fine. The spindle and the bearing looked great , you can spin it by hand , its very smooth. I put it back together , and same problem. So I know why its not kicking a code , and thats probably because its a mechanical problem , not an electrical problem so , the machine thinks everything is working but its not. Looking on another video , I did see a guy say his plastic splines on the magnet , wore out due to a heavy loads , and when he showed a close up , they looked bad , but not like gone , more like just enough for the axle to slip , which is now what I believe ours is doing. I'm going to remove it and reinspect it.
thank you for sharing. is there resistance when you spring the inner drum by hand? sometime things get stuck between the inner and outer drum. Also if the drain is clogged you can get similar symptoms. did you run the systems test mode?
@@appliancerepairamerican no resistance either way , I did not run the system test mode. I pulled the magnet off and looked at the plastic splines , definitely shot , smooth as a babies bottom , it would catch once and a while with a load and with no load it would spin ok , but with any load it would just rock back and forth. So yeah my plastic gear is gone. I got a metal one ordered but you have to space it with a washer because all the ones on amazon are just a tad to thin to allow the magnet to be the right distance away from the copper ring. Once I get the new part and go get a bushing washer , all should be grand.
Ours gets stuck during the spin cycle. It’s a 2010 model. Washes and does everything but once it’s at the spin cycle it stops working. Hopefully this works. I just bought the sensor on Amazon for $27. The one for our model looks a little different than yours, as ours only had 1 tab on the one side with 3 on the other side. I will let you know if it works.😊
I hope the diagnostic video help with figuring it out as it triggers the water valve cycles. Tough to diagnose without being there. I try to keep up with hundreds of individual comments. My goal is to help . God bless you
Hi, I just attempted the fix described on my LG WM3170CW using parts LG6501KW2002A and 6877ER1016H. Unfortunately, the washer went from spinning poorly before declaring LE, to wiggling the drum a quarter inch with every attempted cycle before giving up after two minutes and throwing up an LE error code. Do you have suggestions as to what I should do in this situation? I believe the rotor splines are engaging the drum (hope I got the terms right), as they do all spin, though with some resistance. (Resistance is a best guess, it’s been a week since it ran properly) Thank you for your very helpful video, I appreciate your making it.
You are welcome. It is a funny joke in the business. Some techs refer to guys that just guess at what is going on and change out parts as “Part Monkeys”. The truth is that people learn by doing and through theoretical understanding, but it is always best to just do and keep doing. After doing something enough people become experts and can intuit most problems. Watching a lot of videos is the next best thing. Monkey see Monkey do :)
Do you have an error code? can you turn the drum with your hand? does the machine start the cycle with water ? difficult to diagnose without being present
Search “how to test an LG washer Hall Sensor” you will need a multimeter. Also, when you take the rotor off check the inside teeth of both the rotor and stator for wear. it these are slightly stripped it will cause the same error.
If my machine is not displaying the LE error, should I assume that it is not the Hall Sensor? Or how might I test the Hall Sensor so I know that this is what needs to be replaced?
I just disconnectd the harness and stator, but my model of washer, LG WM3170CW does not have a visible Hall Sensor clipped on. I tested resistance on all combinations of the stator's electrodes, and all combinations are measuring 13 ohms resistance. This is below 15 ohms, which I think is the upper bound of normal. Does this mean that the fault is with the logic board sending too much voltage? Or what do I do next?
I opened up the back of my lg front loading washer machine Used my 17 millimeter socket removed the rotor Then removed the six 10 millimeter bolts And my washing machines Copper coil only has one clip that I needed to remove before removing the copper coil and then to my surprise It doesn’t have a (Hall sensor ) So dang I already ordered it and ready to slap it back together but no dice I guess I have a different LG front loader then the one in the video I did see some rust on the magnets and the I guess I will try and use a wire brush and clean it up Maybe that will work If anyone has a suggestion please let me know If I end up fixing it I will add it to my comment
First the board on my washer died. Bought a used one cuz it was the price of a used washer. After installing it, LE code. Hissing sound and a scraping. Bought a brand new stater with sensor, LE. Bought a new drum, LE. Replaced the bearings and seal, LE. Still hissing and a scraping sound, LE. 5 months now with out a washer. Should have bought a new machine when it died. Any suggestions?
I just replace the control board, noise filter and now this on the first wash. Update: replaced the sensor and no LE code but rattling and growling and only spins slowly when empty. Any ideas what’s wrong now?
I replaced the hall sensor. Everything connected same as it was. It worked for a bout 3 weeks. (Hardly used) LE code came back, purchased a new computer board, that board didn’t work at all, I placed the original in and it ended up working for a little while. But same problem after few months, now it has to be pulled out, unplugged, left sitting for a few days and then it’ll work for a load or two. Then LE code returns!! What would cause this?
Get a multimeter and check the hall sensor, check the splines/ teeth on the rotor and stator, check the suspension, check the bearings, check the spider arm support, check that machine is level. You should be able to find videos on all these. You can also call a professional
I have an LG2455WH (made in 2008😅) and it isnt spinning but i dont get an error code. It will spin a little but sounds like rocks inside. Think maybe the spines on the motor are messed up? Also if i pull the pump drain hose and filter, the machine should be empty correct?
I watched the whole video and once I opened my machine it doesn’t even have a hall sensor 🤦🏽♀️ lol other than that everything else is the same. It’s not spinning or even moving at all, just sounds like a loud continuous grunt but all the lights and everything works. Help 🙃

Used my 17 millimeter socket removed the rotor
Then removed the six 10 millimeter bolts
And my washing machines
Copper coil only has one clip that I needed to remove before removing the copper coil and then to my surprise
It doesn’t have a
(Hall sensor )
So dang
I already ordered it and ready to slap it back together but no dice
I guess I have a different LG front loader then the one in the video
I did see some rust on the magnets and the
I guess I will try and use a wire brush and clean it up
Maybe that will work
If anyone has a suggestion please let me know
If I end up fixing it I will add it to my comment
The tub (drum) spins hard even by hand. Is this because of the motor sensor?
not usually. could be something stuck between inner and outer drum
Thank you Sir! You're a gentleman
you are welcome
Amazing
Just fixed mine thanks so much 🎉❤
You're welcome!
Any suggestions?
you should become an appliance repair tech. sounds like you enjoy fixing machines. you spent more time and money than the machine is worth

What happens if the 17 mm bolt broke
Just had that happen along with my heart. What did you do?
is this always the fix for the LE error? TY
no
I just replace the control board, noise filter and now this on the first wash.
Update: replaced the sensor and no LE code but rattling and growling and only spins slowly when empty. Any ideas what’s wrong now?
Thank you for posting this video
You're welcome
You make it look so easy!! Thank you.
You can do it!
You are an absolute king
Where do I purchase the parts?

Hi. I want to know are all hal sensors the same
No
Would it be the same with a top load washer?
Possibly. Some newer top load have a similar design, but cant say for sure
Thank you. I’ve looked at mine. It has a belt. Crazy kid of mine got clothes stuck on the belt 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you I just solve my problem doing what you said 🎉 save hundreds of dollars
Is there any other reasons for the error?
I have an LG2455WH (made in 2008😅) and it isnt spinning but i dont get an error code. It will spin a little but sounds like rocks inside. Think maybe the spines on the motor are messed up?
Also if i pull the pump drain hose and filter, the machine should be empty correct?
Tough to give advise when im not there to witness
I watched the whole video and once I opened my machine it doesn’t even have a hall sensor 🤦🏽♀️ lol other than that everything else is the same. It’s not spinning or even moving at all, just sounds like a loud continuous grunt but all the lights and everything works. Help 🙃
if it is a belt drive the belt might be broken
Best video ever !!!! Thanks my friend
Thank you. Best comment ever😊
do you know if this part works on the lg wt1201cv it looks they use the same sensor i just cant find the part number for my specific washer
Call our parts hotline and have your model number ready 800-347-2745

There is a link in the description.
@@appliancerepairamerican thank you sir :)
Thanks so much I just fixed mine waoh❤
@@seaalex2554 You are welcome
are you saying hall sensor?
That is the part , link in description
Mine is doing the exact same thing but there’s also a locking noise. What’s causing the clicking noise during the stuttering fail spin?
i am not sure.
My symptoms were the same. I changed the sensor but it did not resolve the problem.
Any ideas ?
Did it jerk back and forth then shit down and read LE?
Check the splines on the link inside hub of rotter and stater . If they are worn and it is not a perfect snug fit replace rotor or stater or both
call a service tech to use a DMM meter and check the wire harness for correct OHMS and OHM OUT THE RPS AND STATOR,
Maybe you got a bad sensor. I'd order another one and try it since they are like 10$ on Amazon.
how much should a repair like this cost?
I Charge $250 Plus the part cost so $275
$250-$300
