  • In this episode of this series, our team will take the first look on the 2024 Acura Integra Type-S alongside with the 1998 Acura Integra Type-R.
    An overview on both the exterior and interior along with the all-new 2.0L turbocharged powertrain under the hood. Then we go on a test drive, cycling all of 3 different driving dynamic modes on both city and highway driving.
    And last but not least, we will take our tester to the Dyno and get some real-world horsepower and torque numbers. The result is shocking!!

    That type r just hits so diff!! Took one for a test drive in 98 rt off the lot brand new in upstate ny I was 20 years old the msrp was 22k then how stupid I feel not buying it then can u imagine 400 a month for that car back then!! Now it’s worth 75k!! I still remember how awesome it drove brand new omg it was glorious as I was driving a 95 gsr 4 door sedan that I bought used for 10k back then too with 30k miles on it!!

    No matter how you look at the numbers, you just couldn't beat the little 1.8 B series ITR motor for its power to weight ratio, hand built reliability, and that Awesome VTEC naturally aspirated sound. Even this many years later, it still sounds good.

      Yes but big picture the itr is bare bones. The new age is tech filled safety feature with comfort and has to be crash safe, so alot of Brace and metal. Its not thebgood old days with just a shell😅😅 its a great evalution of a car.

      I still prefer a comfortable cabin, quiet, has heated seats, with honda sensing, but still fun to drive lol

    Mike and John I learned about a week ago Jay Leno garage he had the product manager( Jonathan Rivers) on his show and they drove the Integra Type S . He shared a story about he invited the Japanese engineers to the US factory and he let them drive his Ford Focus RS; which has the crackles and pop. They engineers were impressed with the sounds coming from that car. He said when got back to Japan they went back to the drawing board to capture the essence .

    The 98 is slightly underrated from factory but 195 don’t sound like much but when a car only weighs 2500 lbs and has a high redline it’s very good !!!!! The new one is nice but if I picked one it would be the 98 that old vtec is so beautiful

    The difference between watching the ITS dyno and watching the ITR dyno is when VTEC activated on the ITR and it sailed to redline I had the biggest smile on my face. And that should tell you all you need to know about how special the Golden Era Hondas are.

    I have a bias for Honda\Acura I’ve always had respect for the vehicles but in 2019 when I got a Acura tsx I fell in love they are so reliable and good looking and fun to drive then I traded for a 2011 civic si and I’ve put 60,000 trouble free miles on it since I’ve had it I love these cars

    No matter the numbers, still the $60K price tag (with dealer markup)is a killer for lots of us. Beautiful car, not worth the price.

      Yea, I was even going to drop 30k deposit but like you are saying… I just don’t see myself spending 60k+ on this. - currently have an 05 RSX Type-s with 200k miles.😢

      @@edilier06 the car looks sick, but in the $60K it should come with electric passenger seat, sunroof (at least an option), and usb and air vents for the back passengers. Honda/Acura is missing a lot ($$$) letting these dealerships markup the price that much thinking that it will be a collectible car one day. That’s what happened with the Type R and Supra.

      There are so many other better choices in that price range, it’s ridiculous. Supra, Nissan Z, M2 Comp. Just to name a few. Heck, I would rather own the slower original Type-R since it’s an appreciating asset.

      Honestly. It would Be Better Served as a Consumer to Purchase a CT4v Blacking
      More Power( 160hp More), Manual Tremec(Better Transmission), Rear Wheel Drive, Alpha (Camero)Platform , Track Capable ( With Warranty) , Has a Sunroof, and is an Over all Faster Car For $60-$65k.
      Ive Seen Adverts for the S-Type for 70 Grand. That's Nuts

    There is no replacing the Integra Type R- this is the exact reason why Honda/Acura knew they couldn’t make a continuation, but a new car. It’s a drivers car it gets the job done without all the electronics of the new car. And it’s capable of enormous power if worked on.

      You could easily turbo the itr and all necessary upgrades, and easily make 300 hp, and likely still be cheaper than a markup type s.

    are the low HP reading on the type s due to the car not rolling on all 4 wheels (sports + not being fully activated)? or just the heat caused the low numbers?

      Low hp reading? Ita 290whp that's only a 30hp down from the crank hp seems right to me I mean if it was like 75 a d not humid might have gotten 5-8 more but to call them low lol

    I'm so glad that I hung on to my 1994 GSR all those years. 91,000 km on the odometer (not sure what that is in miles). If the new Integra Type S is anything like the new Civic Type R, I doubt I'll ever see one in person where I live. I was told by a Honda sales rep that only 5 Civic Type R were available in all of Ontario, of which only 1 was available in my city, a white one, and it's no longer on display at that dealership.

      My sales rep said there's about 140 Integra Type S's allocated to Ontario for the year, but for the first few months extremely limited to just a handful.

    i had my 2001 itr dyno'd and it got 164 whp. (dyno jet) it was a heart break.. so i got bigger cams and forged pistons and bigger injectors.. it made 198 whp on mustang dyno..
    it was alot of work tho

      In high school, one of my friends had the Prelude Type SH and another had the Integra Type R. They saw their cars more like Eskimo brothers than competitors. 😂

    Hey Mike, I think you asked how many ‘97 ITRs came to the States. I’ve seen 318 and I’ve seen 320. 1998 was right around 1000. 1300 in 2000 and 1170 in 2001.

    Great video! I wonder what Acura is going to do with the refreshed TLX Type-S.
    I hope they add wider tires (275?), take away the nerf they put on the engine when accelerating, add more interior color choices (would love to see a blue interior), the wider infotainment screen the new accord comes with, & add the Advance trim features.

      @@layne4376 you’re only thinking of straight line performance. It already handles really well, but Acura purposely limit power during acceleration runs to protect the transmission.

      Highly doubtful there will be any power upgrades, and only minor if any. The limiting factor is the mechanical torque-vectoring rear axle and 10-speed transmission, they simply weren't designed to handle 400 hp long-term and maintain its reliability.
      The most reasonable factory option to improve the TLX-S's performance would be weight reduction, for example the PMC Gotham Grey Edition should've had carbon fiber roof, hood, trunk.

      ​@@layne4376competitive with what? My car competes with the 540i very well. It looks better, handles way better, and is just as fast for less money, plus it is going to be more reliable.
      You can buy a Camaro or Mustang if you want to beat up on Kia stingers. That's not what this car is.

      They were as quick as the same year Mustang GT. The ITR was never about straight line power, but balance between acceleration, cornering, and braking, the transitions, and carrying speed through a corner - a momentum car. But I mean, any car from then, compared to a new car from today, it’s just two different eras. So much has changed.

    24:12 my ITR made 178 stock on a dynapac. I’m guessing at least 160 if the humidity is as bad as you said it is.

      so my answer to this similar question is: if you can afford to have a daily driver and a dedicated track car, get the A-spec as your DD and get an actual car that you can track and modify to no end. If you absolutely HAVE to have just one car, then the Type-S or CTR is the way to go.

    30% drivetrain loss for a fwd with manual is not correct. It should only be 10-15% loss. Plus, Hondas tended to be more efficient in the era of the type r

    Type S (civic )vs Dc2 . I’ll take the DC2 style …there’s already a Civic Type R …. Acura says don’t compare it to the civic ( don’t make it look like it then😅) they killed the integra name and style 😢.

    I wish I could trade my A-Spec W/Tech for a Type-S, but the new interest rates make it kinda tight for my middle class ass

      Was easy for me since i have a s2k for track i wasnt looking for another super stiff daily . I have seen both in perspn and tesdrove the type s and was sold after couple hundred meters. In my opinion it looks also way better than the type r, the only real difference is the damper tune and in my opinion better engine tune. I dont plan to track it so for me it was easy to decide. Testdrove also golf r and gr corolla and elantra n. Golf r was a rocket but was not so great fan of how it feels, gr corolla was too much of a race car and i dont need another one, type r is a wannabe race car without a good street compliance (it still overheats on track a lot) and looks like a kia in the rear. The type s has just everything i asked for, great inputs, great sound, feels super light, cargo for bike, cool look, more compliance and i got it for msrp while evrything else around me has 15k markup. If you want save money go elantra n but im just not fan of the look and the interior and i needed a hatch type of vehicle. People who complain about pricing i guess haven’t lived here the last 3 years and missed some math classes. I dont care if its fwd car, raced some great fwd cars, i only care about the feeling and 320hp is exactly the sweet spot for canyon carving

    Sorry typeR that typeS is super nice. To be honest its night and day. The typeR today is a collectors car and cannot be compared to the more modern typeS. Any car can be modified into a race car. The Toyota camry is a nascar pace car. LOL.

      I feel ya. A lot of people forget to take off their rose tinted glasses of nostalgia. The new ITS would blow the doors off the old ITR around a track, that's just how advancements in technology/engineering works. That being said, the old ITR is an icon from a bygone era. It is a reminder of what once was, and what can never be again. the days of high revving NA screamers is over due to emissions regulations, the days of light weight frames and small proportions is over due to crash safety regulations.
      another thing people don't realize is even though this ITS is a new car, it isn't long for this world with the inevitable EV hell that awaits us all.

    Wait the DC2 Type R doesn’t have cooled seats, sunroof,power seats,rear a/c vents, rear usb, it’s slow, it’s fwd only….etc etc. man it’s way overpriced I can buy a used 323i for way cheaper… Ohh wait that is what everyone complains about the Type S😂 just for reference the Type R was like $25K new which is about $47K in today’s dollars!!! So which Integra is really overpriced?? The Type S is pretty well loaded for the same price as the stripped down Type R but with alot of tech and features!!!

    30% loss lol.
    Its 12% loss at best - the torque should be around 122-125 so its choked up for sure
    195 - 12% = 171whp 100% healthy - down 10whp from clogged cat probably.
