    James, Thomas & the crew, it was great getting to spend the day with you guys again with our shop FL5! From where I was standing behind the start line the launches were perfect on both cars; ITS definitely showed its low and mid-range torque advantage in the drag race, so a very fair win to it 👏🏼
    It's true the +R mode in the FL5 is dialed up too stiff for use on anything but the smoothest of surfaces. We daily drive our FL5 on a different 18x9.5 +45 275/35R18 setup and even tried 265/40R18 on 18x9.5 +38 setup, both are better for real world use.
    Now it's time to mod this like our shop FK8 build, and get it up in the 4xx whp range so no stock ITS can bully it around 😂
    Edit: Savagegeese shared in their video that the ITS Dyno'd with 15 more WHP (same fuel, same day, same dyno). It should come as no surprise the DE5 will win a drag race.

    • @optronix
      @optronix ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ah I KNEW there was an aftermarket exhaust on that Civic! It sounded too good to be true!
      I saw somewhere else that exhaust on the CTR can actually HINDER performance, so I'm wondering if it helped or hurt here. But... NOT STOCK! Come on TH, should have mentioned that.
      edit- I just noticed the tiny little reference at the bottom right. I missed that one... I can't imagine it would make that much of a difference but maybe in larger print next time or an audible reference. If drag races are being used as a metric for cars like these, let's at least have all the facts.

    • @unityperformance
      @unityperformance ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@optronix Car felt no different in terms of response before and after the exhaust, the Integra Type S just has the legs on it in a straight line. There's other videos that also show the ITS getting ahead in a drag race because it's tuned for early-mid range power delivery

      In the roll race, all the Integra's advantage looked to be mid-band related with the gap stable at the end. 5HP won't really make any difference but bumping the torque curve will.

    • @dw214
      @dw214 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You guys are also forgetting extra drag associated with the FL5
      The rear wing , combined with the rear diffuser and redesigned bonnet and front fascia all work together to produce 92kg of downforce at 200km/h
      It is also why the previous gen (FK8) is faster in a straight line as the new FL5 is a more track focused car.

    Your comments on price hit the nail on the head. Back in the mid 90’s, the Integra GS-R undercut the entry level Bimmers and Mercedes to the point where they made sense. You got an option loaded and performance value. Today, not so much. From what everyone has been saying, you get a great car, it’s just difficult to really justify buying when compared to the offerings from Audi and BMW. Shit, I would consider a VW Golf R and save a couple bucks in this price point range.

And that gets you a sub 3300lbs 4 door with a manual that can pull 1.02 G’s on the skid pad that has good resale value and legendary reliability and it’s not too slow either…the only other car that fits that criteria is the Type R.
      The Elantra N is about 90-95% as capable as the Honda twins for about $14-15K less… depending on options and add ons of course.

      I'm not in any way an expert, but I would say 5hp on paper because that is the official number. It would be 15hp in real world testing with independent dyno. Maybe different testers get different results? In my opinion, the real difference is in the mid range torque tuning.

In addition, if you like to work on cars yourself, the design of the engine, the layout of the car, and even the amount of space you have in the engine bay is so inviting. When these cars are 10 years old, out of warranty, parts getting replaced anyway, they are going to be tuner dreams.

      Kinda already gave an idea in the Z video. That's nearly the first owner, second owner, third owner dilemma. And really wouldn't be all that fun if a video unless they just needed content. Easiest one would be the last 3 generations of the BMW 330i which their general standard price to performance car.

      @@Vermonstered I was thinking wider scope than just three model generations of the same car; for example compare a new Elantra N to a 2018 RS5 to a 2013 M5 or something like that; basically seeing if there is a sweet spot in the new car vs fast old car debate. How far does $40k get you, if you really think about it.

All around $50-60k. Pretty easy to see who gets destroyed. The benefit of new cars is they should be able to run without breaking down and why these German cars (besides Porsche) all depreciate so much.

You guys are like a better version of Top gear (from back in the day)! I went from a mechanic that didn't care about cars to saving up money to try and treat myself to something nice so THANK YOU! The only thing that would make this channel better is some type of pretty woman integrated into the channel but honestly no need.

    I love Honda so much but its too pricey. Im actually inclined to get the WRX at this point and just colour match the body panels for less than a grand. I saw some builds and they look like a modern STi when you get a wing with it. My only concern is the engine... I also am considering the Mazda 3 Turbo which looks absolutely stunning, and there aren't many builds out there yet so I can probably get away with a unique car for myself here in northern Canada hehe.

    I feel like the obvious upgrade for not a big price difference is the CT4-V Blackwing. The dealer markups seem to have cooled on those, and the minimally optioned ones are just massive upgrades for about $10k more (much less difference when you compare street prices). RWD, also a great manual gearbox, massive power boost, finer interior (still no Audi S5, but darn good), by all accounts an extraordinary car to drive, one of the best suspensions in the business, etc.

      It would be hard for me. I think the Integra looks wayyyyy better. I really hate the styling of the 11th gen Civics, especially the Type R with that wing that looks like it doesn't belong. It looks like a 16 year old got handed down their mom's Accord and put a spoiler on it to try to make it look cool.
      But, there are several problems with the Integra too. I don't like the exhaust on the Integra, never liked pops and bangs. I don't like you can't easily turn off traction control. And I don't like that it seems the seats are a big step down from the Civic.
      So if I had to choose, I think I'd rather just get a used 10th gen Type R over either of these.
