- Acura's legendary Integra nameplate has returned and for 2024 we have a high performance option in the Type S. Why no Integra Type R? Because: reasons. Honestly, Acura didn't have a good one in my opinion. Anyway, the Integra Type S is the slightly softer, more luxurious, more practical, more comfortable alternative to the Civic with a longer warranty. What's not to love?

The new format is a keeper, the review is as good as it's gets.
I like the extra wide POV at the bottom, but maybe reduce the texts into bullet points? for example, the 0-60 times could just be in bullet points instead of a paragraph. makes it easier to read & listen at the same time.

Engine bay looks great! Seems like you can get to a lot of things without a lot of drama. Good for long term ownership and keeping costs lower for labor on repair work when needed.
lift backs are greatness. kills the need to buy a small crossover...and that's always a good thing.

A tlx with a lift back would be insane.

@@alexeivoloshin5984 I didn't point out a reason people buy small crossovers. there are several...but if it's just the need for a little more utility (practical space) a sedan with a lift back is great. my Stinger GT for example. lots of back seat space (leg room, head room). cargo area is much more practical than a trunk. looks, runs, handles better than a small crossover. it's all personal choice and need. all I said was here's a good alternative for anyone wincing at the thought of buying a stinking crossover.
@@gbgary Lol... Nobody would ever x-shop a Stinger and a small x-over. So this is not a good example.
Most likely this will be one the last manual transmissions on sale, so yes Acura did the right thing.

@@realnapster1522 I like FWD compared to RWD because it's better in the snow. Many reviewers have stated that it feels different from a typical FWD vehicle because of the LSD which almost makes it seem like AWD. Hopefully, I will find out with first hand information this Winter. I've never in my life purchased a vehicle over $25,000 so this would be significantly more than double. Most of the cars I've owned have been FWD and this is arguable the best FWD vehicle ever built so I want my very last ICE vehicle to be special, which I believe this will be.
Absolutely love it, especially with a fastback. Makes it even easier to live with.
Acura quite literally played into the future classic by giving it the manual and no AWD, also profit padding

I would like to say thank you Alex between your video and soyban video I purchased a TLX type S 23 and I love it based on what scores you gave it you didn’t focus on HP Alone you spoke to the car and I wanted a conparission to the TLX and without a hiccup I got that right away thanks so MUCH

I had 1995 Integra Type S and 2003 RSX Type S and as much as loved those cars, I missed having a rear wheel drive vehicles especially on turns.
When you said purity I wouldn’t agreed on two aforementioned vehicles but somehow I feel what you are saying about purity!!

I think it should've had some sort of Auto or DCT option but I think it's a "Type R Touring" kind of car. Hence Type S
I agree. I can only imagine the cost of development would’ve just added more costs and at that point it’s to close to the TLX Type S.
Yeah they probably could've added some revisions to the ILX's DCT, but thankfully Honda's MTs are excellent.
The driving format is good. The widescreen angles and the info square are great.
This is a great car but the pricing. As others have said you can get the reliability and NA feel of an IS350, or even a Supra/ M3 Performance that has been out for a bit and has proven itself to be quite reliable and great tuning platform, whereas the TypeR, while great, has had issues with cooling and their transmission.
Either way, this is on the list, but hope dealers don't kill sales with markups and deposit avoidance shenanigans.
The is350 is a lot more boring and the Supra of course is better because it’s a bmw. M3 performance is fast but there’s the Tesla build quality conundrum and the lack of CarPlay

Just get M2 at this price point or a used M240i with manual. They should have given it AWD to separate it from Type R.

Otherwise instead of stealing market share from the Germans, Acura might just be competing against its own Type R.

Panoramic view is nice. Took a little getting used to though. I always wonder why the change? But this split screen w/you on top works, leaving the upper left for outside and/or stats to review. Despite all the talk about the joy of rowing your own, I feel Acura should come out with an auto next year. It would still work fine.

Better Civic Type R is stretching it a bit.
Most folks will like the hardcore nature of the Type R
I'd wager that the Typer R is faster and more fun on the Track as well.
Why? Same engine, same transmission, same suspension other than the presets, 95% same exhaust, except that the Type S sounds better. I don't know why it would be faster.
It's been tested on the track, and I do believe the numbers pretty much mirror each other. One wasn't out performed by the other per se.
Great video - hows the rev hang compared to the regular integra?
As someone who has tracked his 2.4l TLX w/ the 8spd DCT, I don't know if it could stand up to the torque of the K20C1 or meet the fun mission w/ its reliance on a torque converter (like a true auto) for 1st & 2nd gears. The TLX has thrown trans oil cooling warnings after a handful of laps and would be an Achilles heel during a track day or Time Trials with their Integra Type S.
Do you have any basic mods on the TLX? I have the same car
@@MysterANT None other than 18"x8" ET43 OZ wheels and Michelin Pilot 4S tires...and 20+ years of club racing experience.
And as far as the torque converter goes, it's just painful with a capital "P" trying to dig out of slow corners while you wait for it to lock up.

When using descriptive words to describe something like a glovebox, using words like small.. need to be used with numbers or a relation to an object we all use, because Shaq and WeeMan & You and I are all different sizes. Some of us are long legged with short bodies amd vice versa.. so leg room vs height is very relative. Just some word for thought. You Got a NEW SUB🎉.,

How is the front leg room? Previous Hondas I've sat in (like a 2021 Accord) had plenty of space but the front seat tracks weren't long enough for me.
I'd buy one at MSRP, but every dealership I spoke to has 20k USD Markup!
Did you inquire on May 11 or shortly thereafter? I did and I'm wondering if that was the reason that I'm getting it for MSRP.

Nice review as always, Alex! This car seems excellent, but there are a few glaring omissions in a car in this class like a power passenger seat even if would you be only two way. Also, a memory driver seat and ventilated seats should be standard. Lastly, I think there should be an automatic option.
Should just go for the tlx type s if you're looking for more feature content
torn between this and the Audi RS3 which I know you loved. The white ITS with Bronze wheels and few other bits that I like puts it at 55k vs the RS3 I priced out at 65k . hmmm Addtional thoughts assuming can place an order for either one and obtain at MSRP with no mark up? thx Great review

Great review! Stoked it only comes in stick and all wheel drive would be cool but it’s not a huge deal. I also really don’t like the three way split screen at all! Way too busy

Doesn’t having the weight of the motor over the wheels not make for better traction? Which in turn translates into better power transfer to the road?
As an owner of a Acura TL Type S owner, I’m not going to rush to my Acura dealer to trade in for this. 50K is a little bit high. Yes, I think Acura did a great job on the design and performance but 50K is a bit much. Especially considering you could easily get a TLX Type S with SHAWD without crazy dealer mark ups. I know some won’t agree but I think they should’ve offered a DCT choice. I also can’t believe they don’t have memory seats… that would drive me up the wall.
You want a fat old man car - good for you - this is not that.
This is for drivers who actually push their cars not just cruising around in automatic that shifts at 3 to 4k 😂
The Integra is a beast on track - the TLX-S is a pig - overheats it'd brakes in less than 2 laps

I own a 2018 Golf R now but I would definitely get one of these to elevate my styling. The type R is nice but still a little boy racer so this one would be my choice!
For this type of money I’d be buying a DSG MK8 Golf R. It’s a whole other performance bracket. 0-60 in 3.9 seconds stock. You’ll be blowing away $100K cars with just a 93 octane tune.

For the new format, I don't think the forward facing camera adds much. OR perhaps cut to that dual view at like @15:20. When you're talking about the actual dynamics. Talking about other cars in the segment? Just stick with the cabin cam. Just my opinion. Love the videos.
Looks great. I just can't get over it being front wheel drive, especially for a 50k+ performance vehicle.
The direct European competition like the A3 CLA 2 series are also front wheel drive based ICYDK even with AWD

A cla 35 AMG can get a lot more expensive than the type s when you add options
@@naveenthemachine No mate, a CLA 35 is better equipped even in base form. I suggest you look at the standard equipment of both cars. Right off the bat the CLA has a power driver and passenger seat, memory seats, sunroof, better interior materials, and AWD. I cannot stress enough that I don’t think the ITR is a bad car. It’s just overpriced. The 2.0T is a volume engine that was used in the previous CTR and Accord Sport, the manual transmission was used in the previous CTR. The charm of Honda performance cars were that they were good without breaking the banks. So it was ok that they were sometimes underpowered, or maybe not as refined, or lacking features. Now they’re just expensive and lacking features all in the name of what? Honda’s so called great manuals? My Acura TSX chewed through 2 manual transmissions. Honda need to lower their price across the board by $5,000. Period.

You won't do this with a manual German 4cyl from BMW or Mercedes - hell can you even point me to a manual German luxury 4cyl that laps like the type R 😂
Awd sucks and is slower on track
As far as fwd performance - the 2016 GT4 Cayman was slower than the 2017 Civic Type R at the nurburgring despite having more power, being mid engine and rwd.
These Type R/S models are incredible on track stock and even better with more power. The front knuckle/suspension design is next level and is able to put down 1000hp - people just don't know what they are talking about as they have next to zero experience with these cars.
If it also come with LogR app in the infotainment to record track record, it will be perfect FL5 clone, good video and 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Great review Alex. 👍👍 Nice they have a liftback, but I'd buy one if they made a station wagon. Just amazing how much hp & torque can be got from four cylinders without overstressing the engine. There will probably be an EV version in a few years that will blow away this ICE model. For 90% of the public front wheel drive is A-OK. If I lived in the snow belt this would have to be a no-snow time of the year car.

tbo i would get a '23 A spec with a manual. plenty peppy with lotta stuff and 35mpg on the highway and mid $30's. the only thing is it's a small 1.5 turbo so wonder how it will hold up.
I disagree that 0-60 in 7 sec is peppy.

The griping over the location of reverse is absurd. I street parked my 6MT VW Golf for seven years (parallel parking) on hills in Tacoma, WA, and not once did it ever occur to me think that reverse should be anywhere other than immediately next to 1st, the gear that I'm probably going in and out of when parking. You make an easy U-shape with your hand.

Sure SH-AWD is great for neutral handling but only in on power situations, the old tlx 2.4l with P-AWS was perfect is generally all normal driving + parking maneuvers
AWS has never sold vehicles.
It's expensive to repair, expensive to make, and nobody cares about it.
I think I would disagree that three point turns are easier because I prefer reverse next to first. But I've disagreed with you about that for years. 😊

It would be quite interesting to see what kind of car this could be with a dual clutch and AWD. Acura did do the right thing by keeping it a 6sp manual and FWD but outfitted with the former, this could be a real rocket ship!
However, I wonder if the so-called “fun factor” of having a MT is what the overall car market really wants. There will of course always be driving enthusiasts who prefer manuals but on the street, the competition isn’t pining over who has a car with the greatest involvement factor when stopped at a light. It’s always, without fail, about straight line performance and all-out power - who’s the quickest/fastest. From what I know, there is no “medal” for the best driver engagement.
I'd never pay that kind of money on an Integra, not to mention the ridiculous dealer markup already on the existing regular Integra.

Very cool car considering the drivel that comes out these days.
Dealership markup will be there but I'm guess it'll be closer to $5K markup vs the $25K markup I'm seeing in the twin cities metro area on the Type R (saw an FL5 for $70K and a FK8 for $60K -- both used).
OMG. I thought the $15,000 from my Honda dealership was horrible, but $25,000 is on a whole other level. That's why I'm glad I got in on the Type S pre-sale. I have to ask my Acura dealer if they will be charging mark-ups now that the pre-sale is over.
This car is butter. Must test drive. The manual or so smooth and easy to drive. Power is excellent.
I can’t comment on whether Acura made a mistake in not offering an all wheel drive option but I can say that I would be buying this car if it was AWD. Not for the driving dynamics but because I need it in the winter. I’m not a fan of the electronic parking brake. It should be a handle you pull up.
many of us want that 5th seat. like really, why cant they just provide a drop-down cup holder like every other sedan?

That thing looks amazing. I just can't ever see buying ANY vehicle without a spare tire. I will never understand that theory how an inflator can replace even a temp spare.
Hopefully, I will never find out.
i have been driving for 15 years and only had to use the spare tire once, its just extra weight otherwise. I can see why its not really necessary unless you live in the middle of nowhere
Integra looks very nice and if you only want a manual, it's the one for you. I would struggle justifying buying this over a much faster BMW 340I or 240I for my garage. I bought exclusively manual Hondas when I was younger, now that I'm older and have to drive in stop and go every day and the automatics are brilliant these days, I would stick with a brilliant auto over manual.
If you're going to buy it then yes as the German cars depreciate like dropping a stone and it's a Honda. It not gonna break down in 5 years. And parts aren't going to kill you on costs
Good Car the Problem is that the Dealers Will overpriced Maybe 20k More , and the Financial part will be a Nightmare with the interest on 7% , Good Luck with that 😢
With the new Integra Type S, I feel as though the TLX Type S is obsolete. I mean The TLX Type S only has 35 more ponies and 44 lbs feet of torque more than the Integra Type S. The IT-S is lighter has more interior space, more practical, cost less and gets better mpg's. The only reason to get the TLX-S over the IT-S is for SHAWD and maybe if you really don't want or don't know how to drive a manual. Oh and the IT-S has a touch screen.
No sunroof, no heated steering wheel, no memory seats, no cooled seats, manual passenger seat, no +R gauge layout for $53k? No thanks.
“Dealer Markups” = game over. Just don’t have the patience for those games.

At $50k, it ought to have a DCT option and a/c vents in the rear. Actually, same goes for the regular model.

So in Canada it will be 70k to start. Apply taxes dealer fees looking at 80k! I make 100k a year after taxes and deductions 50k. Would need a second mortgage. Car prices are nuts now.
I really wish they would have simply put the detuned 2.0t from the accord in the Integra and then this tuned version. The regular integra is just not good enough.
I guess they wasn't planning on selling too many of these because there's no automatic transmission option or dual-clutch automatic ...
Theyre only planning to build 400 a month for the first year.

It is not true that it doesn't have sound insulation. It's significantly quieter than a Type-R.
