As a mechanical engineer regarding the doors Cody is in no way an extreme situation. This is an oversight to rookie engineers. At my current job as a medical design engineer everyone was being gentle. Then I showed them the Whistleing diesel way. Slame the lid hard, push buttons very hard, and plug in aggressively as possible. Yes, some design changes were required. Everyone looked at me terribly like why am I abusing this instrument. Well I designed it. I can destroy it. Thank you whistleing diesel. You are saving lives with engineers designing mechanical devices. EDIT: I didn't pay attention and didn't realized so many comments. Yes, I misspelled "slam". This comment was made after a couple of after work beers to gain some sanity back. The "plug it in aggressively" comment I didn't clarify completely. The unit has a DC barrel power connector so need to be sure the connector wouldn't shear off the PCBA. Hello to fellow engineers.
Your spot on. Not everyone will be that rough and even fewer will be that rough repeatedly. But it happens, and sometimes by accident. Things shouldnt fall apart due to slightly elevated use of strength. We aint teddy bears.
This is my first WhistlinDiesel video and I'm liking what I'm seeing. No clickbait, short to-the-point sponsorship, snappy editing with no dead space or needless commentary, fast pacing, yeah this one's a winner.

@@JamesBDmkit’s a plastic piece with rubber on a metal bar that is physically attached to the acceleration mechanism instead of a piece of plastic hooked up to a pressure sensor that has no physical attachment to the acceleration system
Watching a how easily a regular person can damage the doors and the pedal, makes me think of that old fiat 500 commercial where they prepared it to handle an upset ex. Which means a fiat 500 survives ex girlfriends better than a cyber truck.
Im so glad that the cyber truck lost. The problem is that you have to take it to the dealership to have it repaired. Where on a gas vehicle you can work on it yourself
Making you go to a dealership instead of a mechanic is all Elon, but unfortunately electric vehicles just aren't there yet. Maybe 5 years from now we'll see them rolling out with more easily repaired designs
Well, in the test where the Cybertruck pulled the Ford, the cybertrucks rear end hit the concrete with its entire weight, probably cracking the frame just before the pull. So it was in fact kinda abused, and is most likely why it failed, but regardless, a steel frame would not have done this.
@@xcalibertrekker6693 I'm not quite sure what you mean, but just to be quicker about discussion, if I understood you correctly, you are implying that the cybertrucks body panels were more resistant to explosions since they were aluminum? The Fords panels aluminum, while cybertrucks are stainless steel, so I'm not quite sure how that means the reverse.. That is IF I understood what you meant correctly.
Love how the truck can survive the process of being exploded, going across logs smoothly, going incredibly fast, but not towing and opening the truck bed thing.
Bulletproof is a very strong word. More resistant than other windows, they might stop a 9mm or something but I don’t think they have much of a chance with anything bigger. just realised he never said the windows are bullet proof, just the steel. Its just 'Armoured Glass', not bulletproof
Also its hella dangerous to have these type of windows, just one accident, maybe with fire, and firefighter and first responders wont be able to get you out of this stupidly bad designed "car"
Windows are not bulletproof, maybe small caliber resistant. Military humvee glass 3-5 inch think isn’t really bullet proof either u stay on the X long enough it will break
windows are not bulet proof at all... bulet proof glass is like 3 cm thick... no one ever said that just the stainless steal panels are resistent to 9mm
It's just insane that this thing is super durable on the outside but super fragile on the inside. That's the opposite of how cars are supposed to be, they're supposed to have strong internal frames to keep you safe while the outside is made to crumple to absorb impacts.
So many people were impressed at how 'stable' the Cybertruck was on the collision test they did for the marketing material, but physics--All that force that *should* have made the Cybertruck move is now bearing down on all the passengers *inside,* injuring or even killing 'em in the process.
The worst thing is that this truck will not only be bad for passengers (who at least decided for this truck) but also causes danger to pedestrians and other drivers
The microwave comment is accurate because the older models we always used in my house worked perfectly. Heated up food, that's all we needed it for. The new one we got with a convention oven feature and such... That feature stopped working after 4 months, and the food reheated in it is always half cold. This is a year or so of ownership, and it fails at it's job more than a 20 dollar microwave that easily lasted more than 7 years. It's the perfect comparison to a cyber truck
That test was actually very well done. I’m surprised with how it withstood some of the tests and not surprised by some of the other ones. Thank you Cody for being crazy enough to do these types of tests!
Performance wise it's pretty good, being an EV and all with the usual drawbacks of EVs like charging. Suspension is pretty good but it's supporting parts are cheap and insufficient, like the air compressor. It's design/quality is a massive let down for those who use the truck, as a truck especially with how janky the software is.
@@walkelftexasranger Exactly. Plus, that steel rusts, is a massive hazard to pedestrians, parts of it is just glued on, and no one should use a Tesla as an armored vehicle, that's the job of modified Toyotas and proper Military Jeeps and Humvees. A Tesla pickup truck could be good if it wasn't so triangular, massive or steel.
The backend of the frame braking off is completely unacceptable and the doors breaking after one slam is ridiculous. I'm just glad to see the battery didn't explode into flames.
I think that's really the noteworthy thing here. All that he did, and the battery pack integrity wasn't compromised. That's something to throw in the faces of people who call all EVs fire hazards (as if gasoline powered cars aren't burning on the side of highways the world over at this very second).
thats just so funny, the cybertruck wins at every extreme unrealistic test, but fails at towing, closing the back cover, at closing the door and the display failes lol
Watch the video more closely. The tow hitch broke when it came off the end of the culvert. The Ford didn't make it that far so didn't do the drop at the end.
So to sum it up, if you wanna spend 100K or so to go fast, do some offroading and get attacked by an angry mob. CT may be for you. If you want something that works for what trucks do, has decent manufacture quality and a lot less hassle, just about any other truck wouls so it better. Hoping for a episode 2, showing the bed being used, towing etc.

That "self driving unavailable" is wild. So buying a Tesla is like buying a video game today. Full price and nowhere near finished. You can buy dlc but that's not ready yet either.
Thats not true. Its just the cybertruck that you cant do it in yet because its a very different vehicle and the program is not ready until it learns through driving. Ant other tesla you can order it on the vehicle immediately.
No way I'd ever drive anything that hard (or would have planned to use a cybertruck on the farm), but the tow, door slam, frame, and lack of support help are huge negatives here.
It blows my mind that anyone would consider for even a second buying a car that has mechanical parts installed that have to be "unlocked" or that need software downloads to function. That idea is so amazingly scummy and completely retarded. @@SkorpioVenom The detection works good but ppl. don't know how it works.. It recalibrates and increase the torque when it doesn't close. So if you block it from closing 5x in a row it will put more and more force. On normal use case this works perfectly and would never crush your finger.
Ha, I thought the same thing at the end, but then thought... towing your boat, or anything else and you hit a bump or a pothole and your entire frame disassembles... Uh, No bueno!
Somehow that just fits with the whole cybertruck experience. It can survive an angry mob with sledgehammers, but you better not try to take it into a car wash or you'll brick it!
Ok the frame snapping is actually terrifying. Like imagine you're towing a heavy trailer up a steep hill and you hit a big bump and your trailer just breaks off and rolls off the road.. that could legitimately kill somebody. And that's not even taking into account that aluminum loses its strength over time, absolutely unacceptable, and keep in mind I was rooting for the Cybertruck, too.
Dude, he just dropped a meter down on a concrete slab with the back of the CT. The F150 did not went trough the same since it did not make it up the concrete pipes. Also i am sure no one will go trough that same scenario. No one.
On the other hand the interesting thing is that attachment to the front of the Tesla had no issues, it towed the F-150 out just fine.. so maybe just the rear needs reenforcement with the hitch.
@@bartdeking I agree, but even if he did that wouldnt of happened to the f150. The steel hitch and frame may of bent but it would not shear off like the aluminum did on the cyber truck
Lets just ignore the fact that he rammed the hitch in reverse doing 50mph, dropped a 7000lb truck on the rear frame from 5ft up twice, then yanked at 6000lb truck with a chain that got stuck.... yea... weak frame lol
The doors surviving that explosive force is actually a bad thing, and technically should be an L for the Cybertruck. This has been one of the biggest issues with the truck since it was even thought of. Cars are made to crumple for a reason, and this is why the material on the F150 or any other vehicle on the market is made to be as soft as it is in the first place. If you get in a crash then the energy has to go somewhere. By making the vehicle crumple you can disperse some of the energy and absorb more impact to keep the people inside of the car safe. The fact that the cybertruck doesn't really have any of that is moreso concerning for safety reasons than anything else. Making it out of steel seems more like a flex than anything else and I'm not really sure how Elon Musk, one of the alleged smartest guys out there, overlooked this basic design principle entirely. Yes, if somebody in the middle of the US is trying to tape C4 on your door, you might be glad to have a Cybertruck, but in the much more likely event of a car crash, you're basically riding in a steel coffin. I don't like either of these trucks, by the way.
It really depends on the purpose of the truck. Yes the normal truck should crumple as it's supposed to be used for transport only and car crumpling in the event of collision will make the impact less dangerous. However a car made for protection will have bulletproof glass and reinforced plates and that won't be able to crunch so easily, but in exchange it will protect against gunfire. Cyber truck was defined as armored transport personnel. So it would fall under the second category.
@@amagostartdatbigfirekickba9865 The cybertruck was made for the mainstream civilian market, it was not designed to be a contracted military vehicle for combat application, or a high end vehicle for corporate/political VIPs, nor have I ever seen it used in such a way. Not to mention, the glass is flimsy, and (you can find this on youtube), the steel only takes up to 9mm handgun rounds, and even then, if it is fired from a rifle the velocity is too high for the truck to protect from. This is a basic pistol cartridge. Anything above that will go through its "armor", which now seems like little more than sheet metal. So are you telling me it's not good enough to even fulfil its "purpose"? And now, on top of that, you have a crappy vehicle that can't protect you well in a crash? You're just furthering my point.
@@amagostartdatbigfirekickba9865 Nevermind, I stand corrected. some Chechen guy made the most cursed technical truck ever by putting a machine gun on a Cybertruck. This news came out like a day ago. I have no clue if it's actually going to battle.

i know you immediately broke the f150's drive shaft, but being able to replace that in a day for under 1k appeals more to me than having a door that can withstand c4. did the same tests with both and the cybertruck appears to be out for an indefinite amount of time with who knows what kind of price tag.
he either cracked the frame when getting it off the trailer or when going over the logs/concrete, therefore compromising the towing capability, the grade aluminum they use doesn’t bend, it cracks.
@@6elarcyyea at 5:25 it takes an awkward impact. Be nice if they improve that area in the event off-roading a similar event happens. Plus the tires of the ford got stuck, chain got loose, and then it had a snatch effect.
Yea... Cause SMASHING your rear hitch at full force into a pile of logs isn't what damaged it. As if you aren't destroying your frame when you do that.
It's hysterical how the Cybertruck can handle explosives no problem but the human hand (and human foot, looking at the accelerator) just decimates it lmao. Truly the pinnacle of engineering!
@@unscrgenerally if you're inside of a vehicle in a combat zone you want the shrapnel to be flying off OUTSIDE the car, not into your thigh in the passenger seat
that was not c4, c4 has more of a boom, It has to be electrically detonated, you cannot use a fuse like he did, that was more than likely a mortar firework.
Dont quote me on this but i feel like for the price of a cyber truck you could buy an f150 and make its body and glass just as strong with custom upgrades. For example. The presidents limo is by a chevy or ford one, cant remember, and the manufacturer made it bullet proof, air tight, and as solid as a tank (Theres a video on youtube all about it) look it up
I'm thinking it damaged the frame when it fell off the culvert , it weighs 7000lbs, there's just no way it could possibly get that tow rating and shear like that.
It's honestly crazy how those death traps are allowed on the road but when you're an elite and have buddies in the government you can get away with a lot. Especially when the government has propped up your business.
I sincerely wish Ford will take that a court, yes it may be funny and it's a joke, but it's also an insult to the heritage of one of America's most famed automakers and part of the trio that started it all. No intention of being an old boomer 😂

I understand what you're saying, but frame seperation at the hitch is a pretty HUGE issue to gloss over.
The frame only snapped because he damaged the rear end, visible at 5:20-5:30
As a mechanical engineer regarding the doors Cody is in no way an extreme situation.
You can't always assume people will take care of stuff. But based off of what we've seen from space X they probably don't care what the outcome is.
Exactly how products should be tested. For the real world.
Mechanical Engineer and you can’t spell the word ‘slam’, interesting.
I work in a medical facility and have seen users treat equipment exactly like you described, so good looking out.

@@slithra227 I just don't want to spend all that money for repairs on an electric vehicle. Gas ones are way cheaper to repair
@slithra227 doesn't really seem like the direction vehicles are going in. In five years, all cars will be as unrepairable as an apple device.
The aura of pulling up to the dealership with a bombed cybertruck is unmatched
Out of everything, I think the trailer hitch breaking is the worst. It really wasn't abused like many of the other tests.
Well, in the test where the Cybertruck pulled the Ford, the cybertrucks rear end hit the concrete with its entire weight, probably cracking the frame just before the pull. So it was in fact kinda abused, and is most likely why it failed, but regardless, a steel frame would not have done this.

I've never seen a vehicle go for braggable features while skimping on basics quite like this.
That’s the exact definition of an “exoskeleton”

The backend of the frame braking off is completely unacceptable and the doors breaking after one slam is ridiculous. I'm just glad to see the battery didn't explode into flames.

@@bartdeking I think it's 'through.' You had me confused.

The F150 will not kill you if you get in a crash, its fine compared to the cybertruck
You're just furthering my point.

that was not c4, c4 has more of a boom, It has to be electrically detonated, you cannot use a fuse like he did, that was more than likely a mortar firework.
He seemed so serious and professional at the end of the video and then the “suggested video” was “putting a jet engine on a merry go round”😂😂😂😂
thats a pretty good one
Definitely a war zone in Tesla motors PR offices rn
😂😂😂
they’re scrambling rn for real
Jokes on you, Tesla doesn't have a PR team.
They don't have one.
Save the earth but uses 40% more material to make shi* blast proof. Quackery... bonkers
Dont quote me on this but i feel like for the price of a cyber truck you could buy an f150 and make its body and glass just as strong with custom upgrades. For example. The presidents limo is by a chevy or ford one, cant remember, and the manufacturer made it bullet proof, air tight, and as solid as a tank
(Theres a video on youtube all about it) look it up
the fact that the hitch came off so easily is insane
I'm thinking it damaged the frame when it fell off the culvert , it weighs 7000lbs, there's just no way it could possibly get that tow rating and shear like that.
@@nutmegdonkey that is also an issue with it
The fact that everyone is forgetting the hitch being absolutely nailed atleast twice before it broke off is insane
@@thirtyseven8399 no no.
the fact the hitch got hit only 2 times and broke is another issue that doesn't justify breaking
It's honestly crazy how those death traps are allowed on the road but when you're an elite and have buddies in the government you can get away with a lot. Especially when the government has propped up your business.
The “F*cked” logo on the F150 got me dying 💀😂

I think this is actually a great battery of tests: Highlights the impressive strengths of the vehicle wile also highlighting the things that need improvement.
The hitch ripping off the cyber truck is crazy, that’s beyond recall worthy
Yeah that's crazy that needs to be recalled
He did slam the tail pretty hard before that, when dropping from those pipes. That could have easily cracked the frame.

Tesla Cybertruck: is bullet-proof and made of stainless steel.
Also Tesla: Can't withstand a door slam.

Edit 2 wth is going on in the replies?
If it withstood a c4 then it’s bullet proof
@@AegisEdgethat’s what he said but he ALSO said it can’t stand a door slam
It’s just like how he slammed the aluminum underbody on the ground breaking it and then tried towing it. No car is going to survive being beat up and then jump hoops for you. If it broke it broke.
@@Neoprenesiren nah its just because it has a shitty frame. If it can tow what it says it can, it shouldnt snap because it simply hits the ground a little too hard

Hey, I live in NYC. We're prone to peaceful protests (if you know what I mean💥💥💥🔥🔥🔥). When I'm driving home in the middle of the night and the peaceful protesters decide to go shopping. I'll be safe.
"Lets say you are shoping and somebody put C4 on your truck" thats the most American think to say i ever heared :D
“I think we just downloaded front differential controls” I never thought I would hear that sentence. When Cody got stuck in the mud I was hoping Tesla would release the ability to go through to 12 inches of mud update.
Not-so-fun fun fact also, the steel body of the cybertruck has traces of technetium to help the steel resist rusting. Just so you know, technetium is radioactive. Environment friendly? Cool Tesla, how about cancer friendly?
Love the vids Cody 🤠
Next they'll be charging a fee to release all of these functions. You know it's coming...
im here for maintenance.
TESLA: when did you get the truck?
him: yesterday?
I think the frame snapped when he drove it off the culvert pipes. It slapped the back bumper pretty hard, then broke off when trying to tow the f150. I watched that part again and am pretty sure that's the thing that actually shattered the casting. This is one serious problem with cast frames
Agree. I came to the comments to find this exact comment.
Took a pretty good shot coming off the truck too. Those are sudden, hard impacts, much different load than pulling. I agree with you.
I wanted to see the f150 go off the culvert….but it couldn’t even get up there?? But disappointing that it wasn’t an even test
@@sbheyes True but the F150 frame is high strength steel so it wouldn't shear off like that. Only the body is aluminium. Using aluminium in that area is asking for trouble.
@@sbheyes yeah thats also what i thought. the f150 took a lot less damage in those early test simply because it wasnt fast enough, like in the jump tests. still not defending the cybertruck tho. these issues need to be fixed

This video reassured me that investing in some repairs to my old Toyota truck is the best bet. Trucks nowadays are way overpriced toys that don’t hold up!
That jump was actually insane. Thank god nobody got hurt.
fr like my god i thought they had to have broke a bone becuase that was wild
I’m so surprised the airbags didn’t blow that was gnarly impact
😂😂😂
I don't think the f150 would have survived the same jump. That was the majorly unfair part of the test.
@@thomaskadlec1925 The test was to floor it up the hill and land which they both did. Not the Ford's fault the cybertruck could take off that much faster. The CT even got the point for it.
