    Directly from the project leader of the S2000, Shigeru Uehara, when asked why there wasn't a Type R version, he said the S2000 was essentially already a Type R because there was very little room left for improvement as it was already engineer at a very high level from the start. Unlike the other "base" Hondas.

      @mikemata4244 ปีที่แล้ว +75

      @@deltapromasterlauj4848 actually, at the time (1995), no there wasn't.
      The idea behind the s2000 was a roadster that performed like a race car that "everyone" can afford. The s2000 was packed to the teeth when it eventually hit the market in 1999. It was already producing more HP per liter then any other production car which I think Porsche finally ended up beating like years down the line.
      Now as you said, there's always room for improvement. I think they felt the Americans did not like having to rev the car so high to reach those HP levels. With the introduction of the AP2 revision, they lowered the rev output in favor for a slight boost in mid range power.
      The car was as stated above, already on performance levels of a type R. I guess one could say the CR model would have been that type R but the only purpose behind it was to create something even more light weight to bridge the other side of the s2000 vision. A affordable out of the box track car

      They probably didn't push the chassis to the limit like they did with the engine. It's not stich welded like the Type Rs, but then again the Type Rs were based on normal cars. They needed the extra work on the chassis to perform at that level. Either way, they missed an opportunity...there's even an NSX-R. Maybe they should've named the CR Type R instead. Would be interesting to know from Honda why there wasn't a S2000 R/Type-R

I've always imagined that Honda not offering a Type R version of the S2000 had something to do with the fact that in their base form, the S series cars were the only purpose-built sports cars Honda produced. Even at $250,000 - $300,000 to me it’s a bargain. When Dai says it compares to the NSX-R (Last one sold for $400,000), that made it all worth it.

    "How come Honda didn't do a Type R for the S2000"? Because it never needed it. Type R is meant to bring a car up to a hardcore sports car level. Civics, Integras and even the original NSX weren't that sporty to begin with hence they needed R treatment to make them hardcore (think NSX-R turning the NSX from luxury GT to full on, lightweight sports car). The S2000 debuted at that level already.
    Evasive did a good job with this imaginative build though and I'm glad that they used the anniversary bumper. This engine lacks the RPM and character that is needed for a true S2K experience though. That being said it's got some turbocharged factory K20C1 grunt under the hood for sure ;)

    If Honda released an S2000R but kept the F-series and iterated on it... aiming for the 50,000 price point to compete with the Supra and the Z, I would be VERY interested. A supercharger would probably make sense to compete with the turbo 6 cylinder rivals while differentiating itself.

    Wish Honda actually made an S2000 Type R. The S2000 CR isn't even that great. An S2000 TR would have been so great to have. Lighter, faster, bigger wheels, a wing, more responsive steering, sports suspension and so much more. S2000 TR would have likely cost $50,000 usd but so worth it. Horsepower likely would have been 300 since it has to be fast too. Hopefully when Honda releases the next S2000, they will make a Type R model to give it the R treatment like their NSX, Civic and Integra.

    So is this an option that Evasive builds out of someones S2000 that they bring in or is this something that they build out of a car they find and make it a S2000R instead ?

  • @_Thundrix
    @_Thundrix ปีที่แล้ว

    I feel like a type r s2000 is just redundant. Think about it the s2000 as a model is a SPORTS car aka its a performance orientated model for enthusiasts. Making a type R model would just make the standard model redundant as everyone would just buy the type r. It's different from the civic for example as that is designed to be a hatchback first a small family car for causing around town and going down the motorway. The civic type r makes it a sports car that the enthusiasts enjoy while still being slightly practical for a small family. S2000 is none of those things and was always for enthusiasts so imo a type r should never exist for that model and I'm guessing that's what honda decided. The only way I could see them making a type r work for it would be a very limited run say 1000 models worldwide

  • @sushimaster100
    @sushimaster100 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason the S2000 doesn't come with a Type R badge...because it's the only Honda born as an R. All other Hondas have DX, LX, EX...automatic, manual...even the NSX can come in automatic...so they have to put a Type R to distinguish it from the rest. S2000 only comes in manual, RWD and ready to kill from day 1.

    $200,000 makes sense. But you know what the elephant in the room is?
    If they go all in on this project, to streamline, to build, and HONDA decides to actually make an S2000 Type R, or release a new S2000 (highly unlikely), then evasive is gonna be left hanging. I mean yes hardcore enthusiasts with available funds might still go with evasive over factory honda. But if you're comparing $200,000 to honda's let's say.. $50,000 then that might sway even those with money.

    i hate that wing, Honda of today would design a wing like that, like the hideous fk8 and fl5, but the Honda of 1999 when the S2000 come out, would never design such a ricer wing. Apart from that, its an amazing project

    I like how the background white GT4 is everything an old busted S2000 can never be, and yet probably cost less than this custom thing. Whatever we say, the S2000 just isn't as much a classic as people make it to be. This is no NSX.

    I can't take all the dickeating this guy is doing. Cool build. If that is a stock plastic valve cover, painting it is gross. I have an FK8 and even though Type R have always have wrinkle red valve cover, painting a PLASTIC cover that doesn't need any protection from corrosion is just corny.

    I like the concept of the S2000R. But Honda has always leave the spirit of the R as N/A. So it's not a true R because the history of the R has always been N/A and non turbo. Also the motor is not it's original F22B but a K20? If they changed these to its original. Then it would be considered a true R.
