I teach my students to extend the one leg and then bend the other leg with knee pointing out to the side and the foot on the opposing thigh. Sitting up on the edge of a blanket helps to tilt the pelvis forward and facilitates the bend. A block can be placed under the bent knee to provide support if needed. I think the way it is illustrated above would be an impossibility for many, if not all my yogis, especially those, like me! who have knee issues or knee replacements. namaste!
