OMG, what an incredible teacher, nobody has ever taught this way before. I think no matter how flexible we are, we should take this guy as an example. 💫
THIS is just what I have been looking for! I’m a 70 year old man wanting to do this to help with my other flexibility and mobility work that I have just started and your tips for the ultra stiff is what I needed. Thank you! I suppose this will take a few months to get to the complete forward bend so I will need patience. At my age that will difficult 😉
Really thank you! I knew there was a way of doing it right :) I am not completely stiff but for me it's almost impossible to do this folding right, or the pancake folding. This is the best method I've seen that it is not for flexible people.
Has anyone had success with this approach? This is the first video I’ve found on YT that offers a convincing progression for this pose for an inflexible guy like me. Subscribed.
Thank you! I seek to teach in a way that's helpful to people who aren't super bendy. It's taken me years to get to where I am now. In fact, I'm currently writing a book about this very topic. It'll be done soon-ish and I'll be sure to let everyone know, stay tuned :)
The book sounds great! I’ve just tried the pose again and I found that I need to sit on a block and use a Theraband as I can’t keep a straight back and reach my feet even with bent knees! Does this sound ok?
@eds1157 this sounds okay. I would try sitting on a blanket, keep your knees bent to keep a flat back. Then grab and hold on to either your shins or ankles. The main goal should be a gentle lengthening through your spine while also feeling a gentle stretch in your hamstrings. It's a little hard to explain without physically being there to demonstrate, but I hope this helps. Another tip is to come to where you feel the stretch just a little bit... hold there for 90 seconds... then let your body naturally deepen from that point
I like this video. My flexibility seems to be pretty good all round with the exception of folding and I think it is largely my hamstrings. You are so correct with regard to people trying to copy the yoga instructor and I see people rounding and contorting in all sorts of ways. Not many yoga instructors that I've encountered explain that it's better to bend the knees etc...
Thank you that was extremely helpful, I am new to yoga and not very flexible but I am enjoying my practice. I don't go to class I have been learning from home. Have a great day 😊
Thank you for a great seated forward fold instruction video. I have long legs and shorter torso, and very tight calves. I feel like I will never be able to touch my toes. It’s so nice to hear that it’s okay to bend your legs, not just a little but a lot. Even more great is that you will tell anyone that says my legs need to be straight to SHUT UP, so you can start with my husband and my son. LOL. Thanks so much! I’m going to start working on this posture tonight.
@@yogawithlandon Gosh I read your reply last evening and I swear to god, I went further in the fold this morning, with much less effort. Magic of positive thoughts :D
Very well explained. Thank You. Very few instructors realise how stiff one can get! At this age I am finding it tough as it has been a long pause in my yoga practice. I used to be so flexible. Now not!
Awesome video . Thanks a lot for the information and tips to do the asana correctly . I have been trying this asana since long but can't able keep my back flat ..I am definitely going to try these techniques .
This is a great video I'm a former dancer and I still stretch even with my career over, Forward folds soothe the nervous system and encourage introspection. Forward folds tone and stimulate the internal organs. I did a brief video that explains it all in a nutshell
I've been trying to do this pose for like a month now and every time I hurt my legs because I didn't bend my legs 🙈 I'm new to yoga so i didn't know bending the knees was an option 😅 I'm SO happy I found your channel! I'm learning so much 🙏 Thank you 💚
I was never able to to the forward fold. I practiced sometimes but not consistently. Now this year I really want to learn it! My problem is that my hamstrings are very tight. I do some stretches for that but they get tight from my leg workout and are in general a part of my body which I want to improve. Thank you for this video!
AWE! well thank you! thanks for subscribing! :) I've got lots more on the way! I think have like 2 or 3 more videos on forward fold lol :) this is my favorite thus far tho... th-cam.com/video/lANsWyNO2Tk/w-d-xo.html
"Inhale lengthen, exhale fold." This is very helpful. New to yoga here. Is the seated forward fold a "safer" version of the standing forward fold? Does it have different benefits? Thanks for sharing.
love your method. You have covered what some trainers forget - the curved spine. I have am trying to achieve paschimottanasana. How long does it take one to get it right.
It takes a long time. I'm still not there yet... My hamstrings and lower back are still pretty tight... It's going to be a long journey, but as long as you feel the relief and a good stretch afterwards then you're making progress :)
@@yogawithlandon I am what you describe as 'cant even sit straight with legs straight spread' I always fall back and it super frustrating to balance myself to even come to a sitting position. Let alone fold forward. I have longer legs than my torso. Do you think that's what is detrimental is my paschimottasana movement?
So.. wow, I love this video--it's realistic. Question: how long do you think it should the average "inflexible" person to go from slightly angled legs to flat? A year? Two? I know that everyone's different but... ballpark it... ?
Happy to help! Yea id say about a year or 2... but there's no harm in flirting with doing the straight leg version now n then... especially in the latter half of a practice when you are more warmed up
@@yogawithlandon Thank you. I just discovered the "magic" of stretching and warming up after spending a week running 40 miles and tearing my tendons (from not being a runner) -- stupid, I know but.. moving forward, this silliness got me to Yoga and to your channel. Thanks again.
You can also do the same to improve your downward dog. I though the end result is touching the toes to the ground. But no. Try keeping a small Ben in the knee and straighten the back and after a few weeks you really achieve the inverted V shape we were trying to achieve. With just toes touching I always had a rounded back which was not good. 🫤
of the 3 pillars of physical yoga practice... strength, balance, flexibility... it's flexibility that's always been my weakness... I've had to sift and sort my way through a lot of different modifications and styles to find what works for my limited flexibility. But... after teacher training, yes, I would say i did become more flexible, but overall structural things take a long time to overcome.
