Had a bit of a rattle on my base wrx as well. Of course I have a 12" sub running at 500watts rms though :) I removed the entire plastic on the back shelf and put some sound deadening material on the metal shelf and under the trunk lid. But then I also did what you did and shoved some foam from a recent carpet install in my house under the brake light. Zero rattles now.
I just watched your video and stuffed a cut up large sponge into that spot. I would have preferred closed cell foam but that’s all I had on hand. Worked like a charm. Thank you!
I had this problem with my '15 WRX right after cold start for about 10-15 sec before it went away. Your solution made sense and seemed easy enough so I bought a few strips of foam insulation and stuffed a small piece in brake light connector access hole like you did. After several weeks I can safely say the rattle is totally gone. Thanks!
OMG DUDE THANK YOU! THIS WORKED. That was the worst rattle in the car. Fixed by putting Killmat all over the rear shelf, foam tape under all wires and then stuffed a towel back underneath that rear light and it worked great... Now if I could just fix the darn map light rattle in the front...
Thank you very much for the video. All Idid was stuff a piece of cloth under the hole. The rattling is completely gone. I was getting so frustrated with it.
Nice fix, I have not had this problem at all with about 8000 miles. Don't crank my bass to loud but imagine it could eventually come, simple quick fix, thumbs up
18,6xx miles and no rattle from the rear deck but if I do get one I will know what to do! Much appreciated sir. I do have a rattle from my passenger front door where the speaker is but I deal with it. Damn Limited Harmon Kardon upgrades speakers/system lol
To terry947, since he doesnt have a reply button... 95% of my WRX problems were all created by me messing with it. And if you heard in this particular video, I didn't even have a rattle problem. I just did this for future proofing. I have had zero problems with the car itself, if I had never messed with it.
Awesome video! This should fix the slight rattle I’ve heard when the HK speaker hits a loud volume setting. I’ve seen a lot of your other videos and can’t thank you enough for the Golden advice with each one 👌🏼Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the vid yet again. My car is still on the way and I sold the Z today (tears of joy and sadness). I'll probably do this first chance I get so I won't have to worry about it. Was there any complaints about other places rattling?
My rattle in why 2018 sti seems to be coming from the actual subwoofer in the back deck. Any ideas? I was just thinking about telling the service guys next time I bring it in
+LastHumansGarage yeah lol it is a little much. btw kns brakes gave me a sweet deal on my accessport. I'm going to stay with the stage 1 93 tune until I get to stage 2.
My rattles just Started after stage 2 thanks for the vid. grimmspeed dp and grimmspeed intake. You should get back on stage 2 haha! I'm on my 2nd rev totally different car
I literally tried everything then i was taking a shit and was like let me check youtube and bam thanks so much for this video going outside after im done to get this taken care of

+Daniel Guzman sweet, mines holding up well too. i'd like to dynamite the entire tray some day but that's a hell of a lot of work.
+LastHumansGarage now all I hear are baby rattles all over the place. It's bearable for now.
Easy solution for a really annoying problem. Thanks man! Short and informative.

Is there any reason why this can't be done without removing the brake light? Thanks for the video!

Not even for just speakers. If you are in too high of gear too
very true
My rattle in why 2018 sti seems to be coming from the actual subwoofer in the back deck. Any ideas? I was just thinking about telling the service guys next time I bring it in
do you have the rear brake light in deck? or in sti is it on the wing?
Adam Krasnecki same problem here, did you get it fixed?
I have 2 12s in the back and I'll also try this and see it it helps
+guybob123 might not help that... unless you dynmat the whole metal deck and also top fabric section.
+LastHumansGarage yeah lol it is a little much. btw kns brakes gave me a sweet deal on my accessport. I'm going to stay with the stage 1 93 tune until I get to stage 2.
Thanks so much... I have this rattle and will give this a try
+J.Ralph Roman has to help a little.

+Nabil P nah
What is that black box next to your speaker ?
+Gabriel Rivero no clue

I literally tried everything then i was taking a shit and was like let me check youtube and bam thanks so much for this video going outside after im done to get this taken care of
nice man!
Looks like the speakers might be rattling
doh
I was thinking about using heavy duty double-sided tape to stop that rattle
+xxxREVOLVERxxx it would have to be super sticky tape for that to work.
Thanks for posting this!
+Scott2011STI G no problem
Great vid thanks for the tip.
+Michael Wood sure, i have seen it recommended a lot of places, always wanted to try it for myself.
awesome video. thanks
+helllokitty138 you're welcome
Hey thanks for sharing. Doing this like...tomorrow.lol
good luck tater chip
You'd think subaru would use better clips I have 4 different rattles in my 2017 wrx. This trunk lid. RF A PILLAR. Passenger door. And center console
wrapping the clips in electrical tape takes care of most of them
Awesome
it helps a lot
