He had similar interviews with Paris Hilton, Donald Trump (admitted his ties were made in China after he claimed everything was from the USA) and a few others that he felt were there to not have an actual conversation behind the shield of bs. She also showed up to tape drunk apparently and this was the time where she was doing all kinds of stuff like stealing cars and not showing up to court under the guise of addiction. This was one of the only ones that i DISAGREED with... for men, if they are in good shape for a movie they're asked religiously about their fitness, diet, etc... hell most of them outline it and stick it in Mens health and things, just a question about the work put in for the role. I’m an addiction counselor and I will say with almost 100% certainty, Letterman was responsible for her next relapse after this interview. Many addicts have low self esteem and a history of being abused. He not only made her feel “less than” he verbally abused her which could have triggered all sorts of shit that she was using drugs to forget about. All for a couple of laughs, what a terrible man, she’s at her lowest, trying to better herself and he basically told her she will fail. Sadly, for the addict, they believe that when it’s said to them.
You're supposed to encourage and support them, in spite of their failures. Cheer them on when they try to climb back onto their feet. If you give up on them, it makes it more likely that they give up on themselves. I'm sure Hollywood already chewed her up and spit her out during her child stardom, and at this point she was past her prime for Hollyweird to show any interest.
This. As an addict myself that interview attack personally hurt. Addiction is an every day struggle. Relapses happen, but having the courage to fight your own shame for "falling off the wagon" and reaching out for help again takes immense strength. In a very fragile state of being. To humiliate her over it, echoing things she probably tells herself is so messed up it's flat out cruel. It was planting the seed for failure. And he successfully did it as you pointed out with her next relapse. My heart aches for her, knowing what it's like being in an addiction situation. 😢

They’re still people. I love that they set firm boundaries. I can’t imagine being publicly humiliated for being a human being. The pressure and scrutiny they live with just to provide us entertainment is not cool. People forget no matter how famous they are, they still have feelings just the way we do, and they still make mistakes just like we do. They’re not immortal, they’re just people.
I had the opportunity to work with Lindsay Lohan for a few days in Dubai, and I found her to be incredibly down-to-earth. She was friendly, engaging, and initiated some really fun conversations. She’s completely different from the negative image portrayed by the media. I truly hope her positive energy reaches people all around the world.

You could see the self-worth plummet in his eyes. He seems like such a fun, sweet guy too (and attractive too, whether the interviewers like it or not). It's just so low and petty.
And he responded with such honesty. Actually he's the only one who simply answered showing his feelings, not getting angry (lindsay Logan too). It shows he must be a really nice guy. I really felt for him.
Cruise's interview was different. His interviewer wasn't trying to make him look bad, he just wanted something more than standard movie press release. It's offputting to be reminded that actors are human too, with feelings, but Cruise is notorious for being hostile to interviewers that throw a curve ball. It shows his lack of maturity that he can't deal with his emotions without preparation. His interviewer wasn't being hostile, and yes, he might have been genuinely curious, but if he was, no doubt many others were cuious too.
She handled it like an entitled, spoiled bitch. Fans like to know celebs exercise and diet plans and copy them. I did this all the time with Arnold, Van Damme and others. When you look great in a film it is reasonable and expected to be asked about it. Nothing about his questions were overly offensive. Unless you're an entitled brat.

I think what people get apprehensive about with Tom Cruise is that he comes across somewhat dangerous. And I agree, I too read him as a bit of a wildcard but if you look at it, what he does is only biting back when people don't show reasonable respect. I think he is a very important element in Hollywood to remind interviewers that they are interviewing a fellow human being and with that they must show common decency.

I put my name on my stethoscope just to make sure it was returned to me after the doctor borrowed it because they didn’t have one of their own. This was one of the only ones that i DISAGREED with... for men, if they are in good shape for a movie they're asked religiously about their fitness, diet, etc... hell most of them outline it and stick it in Mens health and things, just a question about the work put in for the role. She seemed annoyed by it, but the interviewer was giving her the same questions as all the men get when they're fit.

I’m an addiction counselor and I will say with almost 100% certainty, Letterman was responsible for her next relapse after this interview. Many addicts have low self esteem and a history of being abused. He not only made her feel “less than” he verbally abused her which could have triggered all sorts of shit that she was using drugs to forget about. All for a couple of laughs, what a terrible man, she’s at her lowest, trying to better herself and he basically told her she will fail. Sadly, for the addict, they believe that when it’s said to them.

You're supposed to encourage and support them, in spite of their failures. Cheer them on when they try to climb back onto their feet. If you give up on them, it makes it more likely that they give up on themselves.

This. As an addict myself that interview attack personally hurt. Addiction is an every day struggle. Relapses happen, but having the courage to fight your own shame for "falling off the wagon" and reaching out for help again takes immense strength. In a very fragile state of being. To humiliate her over it, echoing things she probably tells herself is so messed up it's flat out cruel.
It was planting the seed for failure. And he successfully did it as you pointed out with her next relapse.
My heart aches for her, knowing what it's like being in an addiction situation. 😢

They’re still people. I love that they set firm boundaries. I can’t imagine being publicly humiliated for being a human being. The pressure and scrutiny they live with just to provide us entertainment is not cool. People forget no matter how famous they are, they still have feelings just the way we do, and they still make mistakes just like we do. They’re not immortal, they’re just people.
I had the opportunity to work with Lindsay Lohan for a few days in Dubai, and I found her to be incredibly down-to-earth. She was friendly, engaging, and initiated some really fun conversations. She’s completely different from the negative image portrayed by the media. I truly hope her positive energy reaches people all around the world.

The Jonah hill one is sad. He’s honestly maybe the most underrated comedy actor in Hollywood. Those questions were insane.
You could see the self-worth plummet in his eyes. He seems like such a fun, sweet guy too (and attractive too, whether the interviewers like it or not). It's just so low and petty.
And he responded with such honesty. Actually he's the only one who simply answered showing his feelings, not getting angry (lindsay Logan too). It shows he must be a really nice guy. I really felt for him.

I always thought the fat guy interviews were an inside joke perpetrated by Jonah.
Cruise's interview was different. His interviewer wasn't trying to make him look bad, he just wanted something more than standard movie press release. It's offputting to be reminded that actors are human too, with feelings, but Cruise is notorious for being hostile to interviewers that throw a curve ball. It shows his lack of maturity that he can't deal with his emotions without preparation.
His interviewer wasn't being hostile, and yes, he might have been genuinely curious, but if he was, no doubt many others were cuious too.

I think what people get apprehensive about with Tom Cruise is that he comes across somewhat dangerous. And I agree, I too read him as a bit of a wildcard but if you look at it, what he does is only biting back when people don't show reasonable respect. I think he is a very important element in Hollywood to remind interviewers that they are interviewing a fellow human being and with that they must show common decency.
