Yes please ! More tyre tests would be great. A lot of people don't understand the importance of good tyres (or tires for the Americans), so it's worth educating people more on this topic.
I'm a Tire Technician and I'm around tires everyday. I've learned a lot in the 3 years that I've been in the field. I currently have the PSS on my vehicle and there a night and day difference compared to other UHP tires out there. I'm really excited to put the PS4S on my ride as soon as they become available at my shop. Thank you for the video!
I had same combo on my A45. PSS daily and Cup2 for track. The Cup2 as a daily did not last (about 50% of the longevity, not surprising as they start off with less tread depth), The Cup2 were worth just over a second on track, but did aquaplane earlier on a wet track (but were still ok in wet with the awd assistance compared to the pussies in their Porsche’s)
This helped me out a lot! My Focus RS came with Pilot Super Sports and when in doubt, go with the same tire. But now that you produced a direct side by side comparison I am more informed and now know, with confidence, that the PS4S is the upgraded tire. Thank you very much! and thank you to the companies and manufactures that invite "Tyre Reviews" to review and quantify tires.
Awesome, I love actual reviews that do comparisons. Not a "I tested the tire and it's great", which doesn't mean anything. Having actual similar cars, and back to back testing is amazing, and not seen much these days. Kudos to Tyre Reviews, you got me subscribed!
Pavlos Pilakoutas same issue Apparently they are no longer in production I waited a month at bjs before they figured that out. I went to a local tire shop yesterday who said they had them and i could get them next day. When i came to the shop it was the pilot sport a/s 3+. After making a fuss i just said eff it and got them, i cant be bothered with this anymore. Also they are $200 cheaper and all season vs summer.
@@AG-xt6ei i have ps3 now, and most likely will go for the super sport model. Used to have the pirelli p zero before, cant remember the models in front and back, rosso something, but michelin are top notch. For me that is.
@@AG-xt6ei I hope your A/S3+ have served you well. We put them on our 2019 RS 3 in 245/40;/18 size using new 18x8.5 alloy wheels, now at 12,978 fast back roads use, 5,047 local driving and they have performed very well. Clearly superior to the factory Pirelli 235/35/19 original configuration. Will replace shortly with Michelin A/S 4S soon as the A/S3+ have been discontinued.
Love the detailed analysis of your review. You really nail down the pros/cons instead of the more common ‘hand waving’ of other reviewers 😉. Keep it up!
Just stumbled upon your channel. Very well done, covering many aspects of tyres that enthusiasts care about. Don't worry about being long in run time. Personally I prefer more detailed info over less. I'm also happy to hear you compare directly with other brands in a review. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! I just replaced my PSS with PS4s on my RCF. I was up in the air worrying that the 4S would be more of an all-season tire (I.E. boring and less dry grip) than the PSS. Clearly, that's not the case. Cheers!
I had Pilot Super Sport on my 2006 BMW E60 550i(394ps), I took the car to track day with NASA and Speed Venture quite a few times, it turns and hold up very well(This set of tyres sees 4 track days and a lot of highway driving, includes two round trips from California to Utah) Unlike the Pilot Sport 4s on my BMW E92 335i, , already started to get massive understeer and very little feed back from the front axel after only 3 laps, the first three laps feels acceptable, but just not feel as precise and the level of grip the Pilot Super Sport has.
I run the 225/40 R18 88Y Michelin SS and have been really impressed with the all season grip and wear is superb for such a soft compound. I may be mistaken but the newer Michelin Sports PS3/4 and 4s don’t offer the lower load rating of 88Y which is standard equipment on some older cars (most cars are now 92Y XL) and therefore will stick with the SS. It’s all you need for everyday driving.
@@Madvillian nice! 18x8.5 +55 offset seems to be a good size to clear the calipers and all that. I have an appointment at the dealer may 11th to swap my tires out. Its still a bit cold up here in nj
Very well put together, I am currently running the pss on my a4 Quattro it's streets ahead of the conti sc3 my car came with from Audi, given how good the pss is I will have my eye on the new ps4s for sure. So far the tread wear on the pss is outstanding they are so much better than Continentals.
I just got 4S for all 4 wheels on my coupe and OMG...this is the BEST tire I have ever owned. Smoother ride but gives fantastic grip...sooo sticky! It is also much harder to spin the wheel from a hard launch. Completely satisfied.
Hey guys, I'm sure you guys have limited time and resources for reviews but if you ever have the opportunity, please start reviewing a wider range of performance tyres, in terms of price range and brands (e.g. Bridgestone, Yokohama, other lesser known brands). You guys put out great reviews that I'm sure an increasing number of people want to watch and covering a wide range of performance tyres will make it relevant to lots of people with many types of cars. Thank, great job, guys.
Joshua D'Oliveiro thank you for the kind words! We're working towards a number of interesting videos this year so be sure to subscribe to keep up to date with the latest content. They won't all be as long and as boring as this one!
Jon fantastic video and thank you for all your help with getting specific information from Michelin. I've being a long fan on the MPSS since fitting to my 911 where it offered more or less cup levels of grip in the dry but was also superb in the wet and on my 911 they lasted 2-3x longer than any other tyre I had tried previously on track and road. Just fitted the 4S today to the rear and though it is way to early to give performance data the first and immediate thing I noticed over the worn MPSS was NVH and road noise significantly reduced. A thumbs up and subscription from me! :)
Thanks for the great explanation. I have the super sports on my S3 now and love them but now I am looking for new tires and really just need a good everyday tire. The 4S looks like it might be my next tire I am just not ready to spend a 1000 dollars again.
Great review thanks! My E92 CP M3 had 4S' fitted and when I upgraded to my F82 CP M4 which had SS I couldn't believe the reduced wet weather performance! Add that to the massive increase in low down torque with the (lovely) M4, I can't wait to replace the SS with a nice set of 4S.....
@@GG-hd8rr I believe he’s saying the SS performed worse in wet weather, which is a common point made when comparing the two tires. I’ve never owned SS but I’ve had multiple sets of PS4S and they do perform exceptionally well in the wet.
Great driving skills, I've always believed the top tyre manufacturers improve their products yearly and is some of the most up-to-date "tech" available to the auto consumer
Great informative video. Well done. What really impressed me, is the honesty & objectivity. Look forward to more videos from you. And yes we would love to see video(s) comparing mpss/mp4s/mp Cup2/conti sport contact 6. It will be an instant hit, especially with people like myself who owns many Porsches with mpss & cup2 & P zero & MPA4 tires. It will be also great to see videos of tire reviews of same or comparable (ultra high performance) tires but at lower temperatures (e.g 33F to 49F) in both dry & wet conditions. Many owners of exotic or sport cars still drive their cars with these ultra high performance tires at these lower temperatures if they live in areas where it does not normally snow, but only very few of these tires perform reasonably OK under such conditions. Again geat job and please keep them coming. Mark
Very good review. Great website too. Just fitted MPSS to my 335d F31 m sport (would've gone with the PS4S but am on 18" Wheels), replaced the awful S001 run flats, drives like a different car. Never will I have run flats again. Absolutely love the car now, has made a huge difference!! Hopefully Michelin will release a star marked PS4S for 18" wheels befroe my MPSS need replacing. It really is very important to get tyre selection right if you're even slightly enthusiastic about driving.
Tyre Reviews - Yes, I have subscribed. It was refreshing to listen to a tyre review from someone who actually understands tyre and car dynamics, a rare thing indeed! I run Supersports and Cup 2's on different cars, and I'm looking forward to using a new set of PS4S.
forgive me if you have done this video. I think it could be interesting looking at retro tires, and perhaps cars that had dedicated tires for that are no longer in production, or newer versions have come out. Im thinking e-type/911 regarding the first video and clio v6 regarding the second. Have learnt a lot from your videos. Always honest and informative.
absolutely need a Pilot Sport 4 S vs pilot sport 4 vid please , my biggest problem with tyres these days is soft side walls , totally hate them some are frankly shocking and completely ruin all driving dynamics , i just dont get how some manufactures can make the sidewalls so dam soft on some tyres , look forward to the next vid thanks
It's an issue with the label demands and OE requirements. Nearly all OE manufacturers are calling for quieter more comfortable tyres, and the label rolling resistance grade requires a low rolling resistance. This means manufacturers are taking material and strength out of the sidewalls. As noted in the video, the PS4S is ever so slightly softer than the PSS. The next step in Michelin would be the PSCup2. Manufacturers who don't score as well on comfort can sometimes give you improved steering feel, such as the Yokohama V105
Stef Stef thank you :) the plan for the PSS VS PS4S VS PSCup2 currently involves a lot of objective data collection on track, which means there should be plenty of graphs in the video :)
I have been fitting top level Michelin tyres (Super Sport etc) to my cars for years. I watched a documentary about Michelin a number of years ago, and they made a true believer of me. Thankyou for covering such an important topic related to car safety. Many people spend big $ buying a great high performance car, then put shi##y third rate tyres on their vehicle.....It is almost like driving around Without Brakes. Good luck with your new channel, I just subscribed, as getting unbiased information on this subject is near impossible.
Super nice video @Tyre Reviews. When is the test coming between the MPS4 and the MPS4S and MPSC2?? Im very curious between the differences of the MPS4 and the MPS4S!
I replaced the Bridgestone Potenza S007s that were the OEM tire on my Nissan 370Z sport coupe 6M with a set of these PS4Ss and I noticed that the steering feels vaguer and less precise than the with the Potenzas. It seems to me as if the sidewalls of the Michelins are less stiff and are geared towards higher levels of comfort and less noise. Do you get a similar impression with these tires in comparison to other Max Performance tires?
Great review. looking forward to testing the pss4. most tests have been done on the smaller high performance car m3. would really like to see a tyre a review on the bigger cars. m5 v10 /v8, rs6 v10 /v8 and e63
Nice video! Yeah you feel the indirect steering massive between these 2 tyres. Put the 4s on a c63s w205 amg, you will see death in front of you. The car feels like a boat on 4s, didn’t believe it first but after switching back to super sport the car felt like a train.
I had a brief email exchange with someone at Michelin the other week and while they have plans to introduce 275/35 R19 in PS4 there's no plans for PS4S in 245/40 R19. That's why I'm definitely interested in seeing how PS4 compare to PS4S/CSC6...otherwise PSS may be best?
Recently got new tires for my 370Z stock rims and since the stock tire size in front is 245/40 R19 I went with PS4 in the front and 275/30 R19 PS4S in the rear. I was wondering why Camskill didn't have the PS4S for the 245/40 but if it doesn't exist yet then I got my answer.
@aslan abioqa how are you finding that combo ? i have a supercarged 370z and i am looking at doing the same i figure the extra grip in the rear cant hurt ?
Thanks for uploading, great video! I can't wait till Michelin makes the 4S's in the size I need on my 08 350Z, which is 275/40/18. I've been running the PSS's for about a yr now and they are phenomenal, especially in the wet. I was also impressed by their wear quality. I gets lots of use out of'em in my area, I live close to the Tail of the Dragon (aka Deals Gap) here in the states...it's my therapy. ; ) Cheers
If you are ever in the states, do yourself a favor and check out the Tail of the Dragon in east TN, you will thank me. It's a stretch of a U.S. hwy (129) with 318 curves in 11 miles, plus it has no interconnecting roads or private drives in that 11 mile stretch. Here's a small dose, about the last 2-3 miles of it actually, I'm chasing two sportbikes. This was pre-PSS's...think I had some crappy 595S's when I filmed this. th-cam.com/video/IFSB3BlPK9Q/w-d-xo.html
First of all thanks for this channel! Its amazing! I would still have a question. I drive a bmw m140i and would like to change the tyres to 235 front and rear with 4s or 245 front and rear with pss. Would the wider tyres still perform better even if the 4s is the better tyres or would you recommend the smaller tyres but 4s? Thanks a lot and best wishes from Germany
I was reading the 4S specifications provided by Michelin and compared them to the PSS specifications. It appears that the tread width is significantly wider on the PSS over the 4S. It appears that a 275 section width 4S is about the same width as a 255 section width PSS. Certainly narrower than a 265 PSS. Did any of your measurements/observations detect this change?
There's a variance allowed in each size bracket, Michelin assured us the PS4S is within the allowance. The PS4S 255/35 R19 front on the M3 rubs slightly, where the PSS / CPC6 didn't. This could be down to the sidewall profile, or shoulder width / profile!
Just ordered a set of the Michelin pilot super sports not the 4S today, 5/1/2017. Hoping a decent tire for my Mustang GT! Great vid and new subscriber!
You have provided the best review so far. I just would like to ask; how will the 4s handle in colder weather 40 to 30? I would just like to drive my Porsche a bit longer into the coder months.
I got new forged wheels on my i8 and didn't know whether to go with the PS4S' or PZero's. I wound up going with the PS4S' once I read it was Michellin's "improved" version of the super sports. This video gave me validation knowing I chose the right tire. Thanks!
Enjoy the tyres, it's a difficult choice between the top brands as the margins are so small, but all the tests so far indicate you made the right choice :)
Thank you for this video. It was exactly the information I needed. Just a little more wet grip is just the ticket. I ran Continental's last year. Super grip, as long as they had at least a little contact with tarmac. LOL, then things got a little unpredictable.
keep up the hard work great video. now would this be a great tire for a fwd car also? since the comparison was on rwd cars. got an ss/tc I'm building up to be a track and all round race car.
Ru Su there's no reason the advantages this tyre has on the RWD M3 shouldn't be transferred to a FWD or AWD platform! That's said, as great as the PS4S is on track, if you're building a dedicated track car we'd suggest looking at the Pilot Sport Cup 2 as this will be even better on track!
Well it'll be street driven also. Track once or twice a month. I'm up here in Alaska so it'll rain time and again so wet is good and the roads aren't the greatest either. It's garaged in the winter time thou.
Ru Su the PS4S will certainly wear better than the Cup on the road. Would be interesting to see how the tyres wear on track where the Cup 2 will be more at home, but I don't think anyone will have that data.
Great review. Very few sources of this kind of information. Highly valuable. Too bad they don't make them in 18's anymore, hopefully the standard 4 won't be too far off
The PS4 already betters the PSS in a number of areas, so while there's quite a big jump in NVH and wet grip from the PSS to the PS4S, the difference between the PS4 and the PS4S will be much smaller. We're constantly talking with Micheli about an 18" PS4S. We're lobbying for one!
A Video about PS4, PS4S and even Cup2 would be really great! I'm driving the PS4 on my 335i and would really appreciate a test between them, especially the PS4 and PS4S. Sadly, Michelin doesn't offer the PS4S at 18 Inch dimensions.
Great video on this subject, and one of the first ones which is very informative with lots of detail! I'm having the PSS on my GT86 and it's incredible. Shame for me is that manufacturers put more resources in larger sizes nowadays. 18" is already something of the past. Now 19-20" are the benchmark tires. One question to the car manufacturers: is this really necessary? For the next gen cars you have 18" for the Fiesta ST, 19" for the Mégane RS and now 20" on a Civic Type-R. For me 17" is correct size for a Fiesta and 18" is for a Focus RS, Mégane RS or Civic Type-R. For the car enthusiast 19-20" is not payable. Certainly if you do 5-10000 kilometers with a set of tires. Maybe an idea for a next video to discuss that matter. Keep on doing these video's. It's an asset on TH-cam!
Thank you for the kind words, really appreciated. We are in the process of planning a 17 vs 18 vs 19 inch test, so keep an eye on the channel :) We agree the PS4S should be in 18", and while it isn't yet, that's not to say it won't be in the future. The tyre manufacturers will react to the demand of the market, and there's so much interest in an 18" PS4S in Europe, lets see what happens in 2018 :) Fingers crossed!
kostasdh will add to the list. There will be an a2 vs a3 video coming in the next few weeks, and there's loads of tests on tyrereviews featuring both your tyres :)
Great informative video and channel - a shame the 4S isnt' available for my Cooper S. Maybe they will account for smaller sizes as the PSS reaches EOL. I'd really like to see a comparison between SC2 / PSS / 4S
Great review, thanks. I've only recently (Oct 2016) bought a set of PSS ( to replace Bridgestone 050's) for my rather lowly Mondeo Titanium X Sport, but they are such an improvement. I've only used them for just over a month before switching to my winter wheels/tyres, so I think by the time I replace the PSS, the PS4 will have been superseded possibly?...but certainly looks promising for the future anyway.
Frembrit Nez the PSS was on the market for 4 years before the launch of the PS4S, so it depends on how many miles you do. Either way, we're excited at the thought of the PS5S (or whatever Michelin decide to name it!)
Haha. Thanks. Reason I'm asking is I am considering replacing my stock CSC6 due to the bad wear rate & sidewall roll. Considering the 4S but it does not come in 245/30/20. Closest means I need to go to 35 series.
It might be marginally better but not night and day, and adding the sidewall height would negate that anyway. If sidewalls are your thing and you don't want to fit a Cup 2, check out the Vorti R or the Yoko V105S.
The Cup 2 was actually second on my list but its 35 series as well. At least the sidewall is stiffer. Driving on the street in the monsoon will be my greatest challenge but since I don't commute, thought I'd give it a try. Hoping they're better in the track despite the height increase. Thanks again.
The PS4S will be a significant upgrade on the PS3, in both in terms of grip and handling dynamics. There's no reason it won't work just as well on a FWD platform!
Nice review. Just fitted a set of 255/35/19s to all four corners of my Quattro, replacing rather sorry set of Super Sports that came with the s/h car. Can't vouch for grip or mileage, but they are certainly a LOT more comfortable without feeling soft.
Great work! Can you share your thoughts on the Porsche N-rating? (hype..?) I have a set of PS4S coming for my GT3, but they are not N rated and neither are the MPSS, but they are still favored by many GT3 owners..?
Lars Nielsen OE marking is a planned video for this year! In short, it depends on the OE. In the case of Porsche there can actually be quite a lot of changes to a tyre, but that doesn't always mean that tyre A with OE approval will be better for your driving style than tyre B which newer technology
thanks for your great review, my 2010 911 came with Sport Cups but they were discontinued for the base 18 inch size in the Sport Cup 2 so I needed to find a tire that would be a suitable replacement. I ended up with the 4S and like how the tires are quieter but have yet to test the grip. Living in LA our roads are crappy - with a lot of bumps and potholes in the roads, so going 19 inch was not a wise option if I wanted more comfort. I believe this is the best compromise since I never track the car. I have Super Sports on my M4 CS and love them but will use this review once I need a new set as well.
Put on PSS last year on my Vectra OPC/VXR Caravan before the release of the PS4S. Was driving at 250km/h in Germany and the handling was great. I can't wait to wear them out to put on the PS4S and see the difference! And for a prettier look also of course :) Thanks for the review, I watch a lot of your video you're great! Big Up!
VERY helpful and informative video, thank you. I even signed into my phone to find it again so I could 'thumbs up' it! I will be investing in a set of these for my C63, a car which would benefit hugely from some better RW grip! Thanks again. Subscribed.
Great reviews. Im a fan. Subscribed👍👍👍. I have a 7 series (not LWB) with Goodyear Excellence Rft, 20in wheels. After watching the videos im looking to change to non runflats. I havent felt confident at bends at high speed on this car. It cant be the size of the car as its only 2 inches longer than a 5 series. I'm looking for a safe tyre as even tiny wheel slide kills my confidence. Thinking between ps4s vs primacy. Wondering what is overall safest tyre at wet british weather. And how does ps4s/primacy compare with other uhp summer tyres in cold winter months when the roads get bit icy? Many thanks.
For ultimate safety you want a summer / winter combination. The PS4S and Primacy are similar ultimate levels of grip, but the PS4S will be more sporty.
Nice to see a balanced review on these at last. Been waiting for these to come out in 225/40/19 for the front of my E46 M3 but looks like its not gonna happen. Need to bite the bullet and get 235/40/19 instead as it has the lowest effect on the speedo compared to the cheaper ones closest to my size (negligible really as it's just under 1% as compared to up to 4% with the other sizes). Have already just fitted the standard PS4 (non "S") on the rear and they are phenomonal, really can't rate them highly enough. They replaced an old set of PS3's that lasted 14k over the past year which were a brilliant set of all year tyres as well. With the new PS4S on the front and my new bilsteins fitted all round the car will be like a go kart - cant wait!
sarcastixx74 thank you for the feedback :) for what it's worth I ran 235/35 R19 fronts on the TyreReviews E46 M3 without problem, just make sure you let your insurance company know as technically it is classed as a modification
***** Thanks for the reply. The 235/40/19's would give the lowest speedo error (under 1%) while the 235/35/19's would be just over 2%. I know it's marginal but I want to keep the same 40 profile as the 35 will probably increase road noise. It's only 18 quid per tyre extra for the size I want compared to the size you listed. If it was more than that though I probably would have settled for the 235/35s! As for insurance, they already have my modifications listed on the policy which includes my non factory alloys/tyres. Thanks for the reminder though, always best to disclose all mods to insurers ;)
They do look great - glad I'm not the only one who thought so! I just had a set of 4s put on my S65 AMG. Funny thing was the tire shop "accidentally" put Super Sports on the front...I'll bet they weren't expecting me to notice.
Yes please test the P4s vs cup2 for track in dry. I think everybody knows in wet the cup2 are not the tyre to run. However is the cup2 so much better to run it on track instead of using the p4s for track and everyday use.
Awesome video, I was really curious as to how the steering feel compares. My only complaint after 3 sets of MPSS was the soft sidewall and lack of steering feel. It always felt like about 5% more on center dead spot.
Russell G.S. Centre dead spot and steering speed improved have slightly improved! If you want the best steering feel and feedback from a Michelin tyre, it will be the Pilot Spot Cup 2 (or the original Pilot Sport, that was an epic tyre!)
I drive a 2015 M5 have used Pilot Super Sports on this and my 06 M3. And live in Southern California, USA I was thinking of trying the PS4S, I looked at the forums and the consensus is the Pilot Super Sport is the preferred. I realize the Michelin is sponsoring you, so I’m wondering is it a better tire on some cars then others or is it an issue if that’s what they know and not accepting change to the PS4S ?
Michelin don't sponsor me or pay me to say anything. Go watch my review of the 4S vs Super sport and you'll see what the m3 guys are talking about. The PS4S is objectively a better tyre but subjectively the PSS wins for handling and steering feel etc. In southern cali if you want the super sport dry grip and feel, go Cup 2, it's even better subjectively!
Tyre Reviews Thanks I’ll look at the M3 forums I’m on the M5 forums as I was looking for F10 M5 thoughts. Because of the higher horsepower and torque. But open to all opinions to make the best decision. The Cup 2 I think they won’t last 6 months on the roads here most of them are in poor condition. I only go to the track a couple times a year.
What about the RE-11 vs the PSS4? I used to run the original super sports and switched due to weak sidewalls and terrible wear. Went to RE-11 and think they are better than the pss in every way. Would love to see the new PS4 vs RE-11.
What’s the best Michelin tire in this size for an Audi S3 as it is not available in the pilot sport 4s still yet as far as I am aware. Choices are softer PS4, older pss or full on winter compromising psc2?
Thank you very much...pretty much my determining factor when buying UHP rubber is what the feedback is at loss of traction time...that is what matters to me...which is why I still prefer Cup2 tires as I can feel what they are up to at traction loss time...but as my '18 Z06 has PSS's and I was considering Cup2's or PS4's I will now scratch the PS4 thought.
Hello, very interesting video, thank you for sharing! I am thinking of buying the 4S set for my BMW M4 (F82). I cant get the version with "*", please can you tell me if the version without "*" is much worse then the one especially adjusted for BMW? Thank you, Richard
Not sure if this is the place to ask but how did you manage to get into such an awesome job?? I would love to be able to do reviews like this!!! Keep up the good work :)
Well, I'm glad to hear it paid off for you! It's refreshing to hear honest opinions and concise answers! Looking forward to more videos. Thanks for answering, by the way. It's appreciated.
Could you test out the Michelin Pilot Sport A/A 3 Plus please? Would like to see how it holds up with the Pilot Sport 4 S, Pilot Super Sport and Pilot Super Cup 2. I live in Canada and storing the tires in the garage is still cold so the Pilot Sport A/S 3 Plus is better in terms of tires cracking in cold weather for me. Thanks.
I still prefer the Super Sport. I think my AMG just prefers this tire better with the weight shifting load. Still an unbelievable tire in 2018, amazing. Ill keep running the SS's until they quit making it...
( Tyre Reviews ) Great point bro.. Tires have came a long way. I only run my SS's from June thru August living in Mid West. I don't have many wet days in that period..
(Tyre Reviews ) Thank you very much, really appreciate it. Ill definitely check them out, maybe my tire guy will have a used pair to let me wear out... Thanks again 👍
Sick video dude! Very informative with lots of stats that I'll try and get my head round haha
Thanks Paul, appreciated. Look forward to working together in the future!
Good suggestion/plug. Came here thanks to exhaust experts ep4

would like a track test between MPSS/MP4S/CUP2, to see how close the tyres are on track (have the MPSS on daily wheels, the CUP2 on trackset).
We're doing our best to make it happen!
Tyre Reviews cool! :)
And road too please. A lost of us don't track but still want an ultra sticky tire for dry road use.
We'll try our best! :)

Awesome, I love actual reviews that do comparisons. Not a "I tested the tire and it's great", which doesn't mean anything. Having actual similar cars, and back to back testing is amazing, and not seen much these days. Kudos to Tyre Reviews, you got me subscribed!
Thanks for the kind words :) Back to back testing is a lot of fun!
I love these PS4s tires. And I’ll admit, I bought them mostly for the looks 😂
Where did u buy them from? Cant seem to find any available. I read they come at 285/35/18 but cant find any
Pavlos Pilakoutas same issue
Apparently they are no longer in production
I waited a month at bjs before they figured that out.
How long did they lasted
Love the detailed analysis of your review. You really nail down the pros/cons instead of the more common ‘hand waving’ of other reviewers 😉. Keep it up!
Thank you, appreciated :)
Great video! This helped me a lot with my decision making. After watching, I've decided to go with the PS4Ss for my M4.
Let me know how you get on :)
Just stumbled upon your channel. Very well done, covering many aspects of tyres that enthusiasts care about. Don't worry about being long in run time. Personally I prefer more detailed info over less. I'm also happy to hear you compare directly with other brands in a review. Keep up the good work!
That's fortunate as I've just finished a 16 minute edit that should be going live tomorrow :)
Thanks! I just replaced my PSS with PS4s on my RCF. I was up in the air worrying that the 4S would be more of an all-season tire (I.E. boring and less dry grip) than the PSS. Clearly, that's not the case. Cheers!
I had Pilot Super Sport on my 2006 BMW E60 550i(394ps), I took the car to track day with NASA and Speed Venture quite a few times, it turns and hold up very well(This set of tyres sees 4 track days and a lot of highway driving, includes two round trips from California to Utah)
Unlike the Pilot Sport 4s on my BMW E92 335i, , already started to get massive understeer and very little feed back from the front axel after only 3 laps, the first three laps feels acceptable, but just not feel as precise and the level of grip the Pilot Super Sport has.
If you have 180hp the ss are good lol
Will be running pilot sport 4s on my sti this summer. Got em in my garage cant wait to put em on. Great looking tire too!
getting ready to get a new set of rims and these tires for mine
@@Madvillian nice! 18x8.5 +55 offset seems to be a good size to clear the calipers and all that. I have an appointment at the dealer may 11th to swap my tires out. Its still a bit cold up here in nj
Thank you for your excellent review. Exactly what I need to make a decision, 4S shoes will be on my F80 M3 very soon.
Glad you're enjoying them :)
Good news on the NVH + Wet Traction on the 4's... they'll go on once the PSS's are finished! Thanks for the commentary.
Enjoy, let me know how you get on :)
I did not skip the video to 6:10, great video!! I'm debating on Pilot 4S vs Continental Extremecontact sport
Let me know what you decide!
No problem Gibbo, glad you got there in the end. Keep us updated with your thoughts as the tyres bed in and you get more miles on them :)
Reduced with 4s or ss ?
@@GG-hd8rr I believe he’s saying the SS performed worse in wet weather, which is a common point made when comparing the two tires. I’ve never owned SS but I’ve had multiple sets of PS4S and they do perform exceptionally well in the wet.
Can not get a better tyre review 👍
Great driving skills, I've always believed the top tyre manufacturers improve their products yearly and is some of the most up-to-date "tech" available to the auto consumer
The premium manufacturers definitely have the most tech in their tyres. Michelin spend over one million euros per day in R&D alone!
Great video.
However the MP4S isnt available in all sizes the MPSS was, so a test of MPSS vs MP4 (non S) would be great.
Agreed!
Mark
EXTREMELY HELPFUL REVIEW! Thank you, just went with the 4s for my BBS FI-R
Great news, let me know how you get on :)
No these ps4s are something else... not all tires are the same!
Thanks for making this video. Yes, I would too like to see a test between the PSS, P4s and P Cup. I am glad to go smoke the P4s this weekend ...
+JpadIceCoffee subscribe and you'll see :)
Glad you're enjoying them :) They wear so well by the time you need to replace them, the PS5S might be on the market!
For a relatively small channel the production quality is top notch. Keep it up and people will definitely notice.
Thank you, we've a few more videos coming over the summer, hopefully these will improve the production further!
Can please you do a video of the Pilot Sport 4 vs Pilot Sport 4 S
We're trying our best :)
@Walter White Done
Great review, thanks for taking the time and effort to film for us.
Clive Walpole thank you for your kind comment, be sure to subscribe for more in the future :)
Tyre Reviews - Yes, I have subscribed. It was refreshing to listen to a tyre review from someone who actually understands tyre and car dynamics, a rare thing indeed! I run Supersports and Cup 2's on different cars, and I'm looking forward to using a new set of PS4S.
Clive Walpole be sure to let us know how you get on :)
forgive me if you have done this video. I think it could be interesting looking at retro tires, and perhaps cars that had dedicated tires for that are no longer in production, or newer versions have come out. Im thinking e-type/911 regarding the first video and clio v6 regarding the second. Have learnt a lot from your videos. Always honest and informative.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll add it to the list :)
absolutely need a Pilot Sport 4 S vs pilot sport 4 vid please , my biggest problem with tyres these days is soft side walls , totally hate them some are frankly shocking and completely ruin all driving dynamics , i just dont get how some manufactures can make the sidewalls so dam soft on some tyres , look forward to the next vid thanks
Manufacturers who don't score as well on comfort can sometimes give you improved steering feel, such as the Yokohama V105
great review, moved from supersport and got my 4S set and they rock...
Great to hear! If you get some time feel free to leave a review on www.tyrereviews.com :)
once again a truly informative video, thank you. would be great if there were charts depicting the results. looking forward to the next video
Stef Stef thank you :) the plan for the PSS VS PS4S VS PSCup2 currently involves a lot of objective data collection on track, which means there should be plenty of graphs in the video :)
Great video guys and a great addition to your website!
Bokkem01 thanks :) it's still being planned, I'm really hopeful it will be this year!
Great review. looking forward to testing the pss4. most tests have been done on the smaller high performance car m3.
would really like to see a tyre a review on the bigger cars. m5 v10 /v8, rs6 v10 /v8 and e63
iamsadam no problem... If you happen to have an rs6 you can lend us we'll do a review straight away :)
Would really love a video of Sport 4 vs Sport 4 S vs Cup 2 like you mentioned in the end of the video.
4S vs Cup 2 coming very soon! Just waiting on some camera bits, it should be live within 2 weeks :)
Awesome! Looking forward to it...
Nice video! Yeah you feel the indirect steering massive between these 2 tyres.
Put the 4s on a c63s w205 amg, you will see death in front of you.
The car feels like a boat on 4s, didn’t believe it first but after switching back to super sport the car felt like a train.
Would love to see PS4 vs PS4S as sadly only PS4 will be available in 370z sizing. CS6 is available but worried they may wear very quickly!
Both the PS4S and CSC6 only go down to 19", and there's very few PS4 sizes in 19", apart from 255/35 R19 (which is covered by the PS4S too)?!
We've at least got you covered on the PSS vs CSC6 question - th-cam.com/video/27PcQObpNsQ/w-d-xo.html
@aslan abioqa how are you finding that combo ? i have a supercarged 370z and i am looking at doing the same
i figure the extra grip in the rear cant hurt ?
Thanks for uploading, great video! I can't wait till Michelin makes the 4S's in the size I need on my 08 350Z, which is 275/40/18. I've been running the PSS's for about a yr now and they are phenomenal, especially in the wet. I was also impressed by their wear quality. I gets lots of use out of'em in my area, I live close to the Tail of the Dragon (aka Deals Gap) here in the states...it's my therapy. ; ) Cheers
Glad you're enjoying the tyres :)
Looks amazing, sure will :)
Thanks for the vid!
It would be great to see PS4 vs PSS, especially as the PS4S is only 19 inch + :-/
(WHY!!!!)
I have the ps4s in 18s
I have the PS4 pro
@@casualblunts9186 That is true I just ordered some PS4 18" as well
First of all thanks for this channel!
Thank you and enjoy the tyres :)
how did you find them? I can't afford the 4S so I'm tempted by the SS
Impressively detailed... the kind of approach us tiregeeks appreciate. Many many thanks.
Tyre Reviews but is the pilot sport cup 2's last as long as the ps4s? longevity is kindup there for me. hate to have to buy new tires so quickly.
Ru Su the PS4S will certainly wear better than the Cup on the road. Would be interesting to see how the tyres wear on track where the Cup 2 will be more at home, but I don't think anyone will have that data.
Had these on my golf r. Just got them for my 1 series. Best tyre ever. MPSS.
Great review.
Agreed, I'm a big fan!
Great video - thanks.
Will the Supersport keep going for a few more years? I have four on my M3 as it stands.
David Luke the PSS will continue to be made in sizes where there's an OE approval for up to 10 years!
Tyre Reviews please keep trying 18” is a huge market place
Pilot 4s vs Cup 2 tire comparison please! thanks.
excellent thank you, be good to see the Cup vs PSS vs 4S on track in your other video now...Cheers
A Video about PS4, PS4S and even Cup2 would be really great! I'm driving the PS4 on my 335i and would really appreciate a test between them, especially the PS4 and PS4S.
Sadly, Michelin doesn't offer the PS4S at 18 Inch dimensions.
It's coming! 18" PS4S does exist in America too
Thanks for the video, just ordered a set for my M2 to replace the Conti's that came with it.
T Bone let us know how you find them :)
Great vid! Another vote for a comparison between MPSS, 4S and Cup2's on road and track please! :)
+Fastfishracing already working on it :)
We are in the process of planning a 17 vs 18 vs 19 inch test, so keep an eye on the channel :)
We agree the PS4S should be in 18", and while it isn't yet, that's not to say it won't be in the future. The tyre manufacturers will react to the demand of the market, and there's so much interest in an 18" PS4S in Europe, lets see what happens in 2018 :) Fingers crossed!
Please make the video of the PSC2!! thanks for the hard work!!
South Coast Photography thank you, we're trying to get one organised at the moment!
please make a comparison of pilot sport 4 to the F1 asymmetric 3.
kostasdh will add to the list. There will be an a2 vs a3 video coming in the next few weeks, and there's loads of tests on tyrereviews featuring both your tyres :)
Great review, I have MPS 4’s on my 650hp Z06 and love them!
Glad you're enjoying them :)
Thanks - great video, really informative and I'm now off to buy some PS4S for the M3! Looking forward to better wet grip.
Let us know how you get on!
Great informative video and channel - a shame the 4S isnt' available for my Cooper S. Maybe they will account for smaller sizes as the PSS reaches EOL. I'd really like to see a comparison between SC2 / PSS / 4S
Same for me! is not available for my Fiat 124 Spider Abarth (17 inches) so I have to buy the Super Sport iso 4S
You suggested a video ps4 vs ps4s vs pss... I suggest , for us fellas with 18" wheels, to do a video ps4 vs pss. Thank you. Your videos are great!
Very informative. Enjoyed it. Would you remember how the CSC6 vs PS4S sidewall stiffness compares?
Weirdly I was literally just thinking about this.
Very similar. The 4S is softer than the PSS was, which brings it more in line with the Conti.
Haha.
One of the latest channel video covers Cup 2 on the road. They can be quite a challenge when cold and wet :)
Nice review but any indications on how FWD will perform with the PS4S? Currently have the 235/35 19 PS3's that came from the factory on a Focus ST.
The PS4S will be a significant upgrade on the PS3, in both in terms of grip and handling dynamics. There's no reason it won't work just as well on a FWD platform!
PS4 vs PS4S vs PSC2 would be a great thing. It would defenitely help in undertsaning the different levels of "sportiness"
dufonrafal it's something we're definitely planning for this year :)
Nice review.
Just fitted a set of 255/35/19s to all four corners of my Quattro, replacing rather sorry set of Super Sports that came with the s/h car. Can't vouch for grip or mileage, but they are certainly a LOT more comfortable without feeling soft.
I look forward to your full review when you've got some more miles on them :) I'm still being impressed by the grip every time I go out!
Hope these become available soon my my MINI Roadser S 205-45-17 size...
The Pilot Sport 4 is still an excellent tyre, there might be a wait for that size in the 4 S :(
Sounds like you made a great choice :)
Big Up!
I look forward to your thoughts on the swap :)
VERY helpful and informative video, thank you. I even signed into my phone to find it again so I could 'thumbs up' it!
I will be investing in a set of these for my C63, a car which would benefit hugely from some better RW grip!
Thanks again.
Subscribed.
R08Z1 thanks, really appreciated! Be sure to let us know how you get on with them, they'll be a great match for an awesome car like the c63!

Thanks for the reply. Thanks for the reminder though, always best to disclose all mods to insurers ;)
sarcastixx74 be sure to let us know how you get on with the new rubber :)
Working on it :)
Excellent review . . . . Informative
nice work on this episode.very good info.
Thank you!

And live in Southern California, USA
I was thinking of trying the PS4S, I looked at the forums and the consensus is the Pilot Super Sport is the preferred.

Thanks I’ll look at the M3 forums I’m on the M5 forums as I was looking for F10 M5 thoughts. Because of the higher horsepower and torque. But open to all opinions to make the best decision. The Cup 2 I think they won’t last 6 months on the roads here most of them are in poor condition. I only go to the track a couple times a year.
Great reviews mate im sold on these tyres for my sc v8
Let me know how you find them :)
What about the RE-11 vs the PSS4? I used to run the original super sports and switched due to weak sidewalls and terrible wear. Went to RE-11 and think they are better than the pss in every way. Would love to see the new PS4 vs RE-11.
Ty...looking at the 4s as my next tire
They're great tyres, the wet grip is a real improvement over the Super Sport
Very,Very good info, I am getting Audi S3 2018, plan on putting Michelin's on it, Thanks kindly!
Nice car, enjoy!
What’s the best Michelin tire in this size for an Audi S3 as it is not available in the pilot sport 4s still yet as far as I am aware. Choices are softer PS4, older pss or full on winter compromising psc2?
Love Your Videos . . . Always Informative . Thanks
Thanks :)
Lots of hard work and lots of luck :) I started the tyrereviews website ten years ago, took a lot of risks and somehow it has worked out!
Well, I'm glad to hear it paid off for you! It's refreshing to hear honest opinions and concise answers! Looking forward to more videos. Thanks for answering, by the way. It's appreciated.

Some folks spell "luck" WORK.
Thanks.
Best I can do for now - www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/Michelin-Pilot-Sport-4S-vs-Continental-ExtremeContact-Sport-AS3-RE980AS.htm
Very informative video Sir. I have made decision to put PS 4S in my new wheels after watching this. Thank you so much.
Get, let me know how you get on :)
I still prefer the Super Sport. I think my AMG just prefers this tire better with the weight shifting load. Still an unbelievable tire in 2018, amazing. Ill keep running the SS's until they quit making it...
If it was a little better in the wet it would be such a great tyre still! The game has moved on in the wet though.
( Tyre Reviews ) Great point bro.. Tires have came a long way. I only run my SS's from June thru August living in Mid West. I don't have many wet days in that period..
Might be worth thinking about the Cup 2 then. Another great dry weather tyre, and will give you even more feedback and stability!
(Tyre Reviews ) Thank you very much, really appreciate it. Ill definitely check them out, maybe my tire guy will have a used pair to let me wear out... Thanks again 👍
