  • Thought I would do a quick update on the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 Tyres, that I currently have installed on my M140i.
It's been a while since I last talked about them more in depth, and I felt that now was a good time to give you a long term update.
How do they feel now they have some wear and tear on them, and would I put them on my car again?
I hope you enjoy the video, and I will see you again In the next one!
    Road Reg.

Super sports were fine until you wore them down to 1/32 and then in the wet, they were dangerous.

They are not if you get them heated! And on M140 you’re only at 300 something horses and most likely run on flat. And ROF is rubbish anyway, but unless you’re willing to spend money for a decent suspension upgrade so you can run ‘normal’ tires you need to buy ROF. Try Intrax & non ROF and you’ll be surprised even in the wet.

My new 140 came with PS5 which made me very happy.
Long time fan of the pilot sports having used them on a variety of rear drivers since I first experienced PS2 and said goodbye to Pirelli Pzero forever. 😂
The wet grip is so important. I’m uk too and it’s totally worth sacrificing the nth degree of dry grip and even feel for the noticeable improvement in traction.
On the Goodyears. My wife used to have those on her Mk4 Supra and they really were special. In the dry.

I've got Michelin PS5's on my BMW G31 20d and I love the grip and handling in wet conditions. They're more silent (duh!) and more comfortable than the RFT Pirelli Cinturato P7's that the car came with from factory, but they also add a bit more resistance so the fuel consumption has gone up a bit. But I can live with that as they're better than the P7's in every other aspect.

I agree that wet grip is important, personally I think a little more so than dry grip (even though I track my M3 occasionally, last time on Monday at a rain soaked Bedford!), I'm also in the UK so I get what you mean about the whether! lol

Changed from OEM MPSS (5mm+ still left but edges worn and in the cold/damp they were crap, but EPIC in summer!) to PS5. SO disappointing as they're clearly a Touring tyre. So much understeer, no feel and quick wearing rears which I changed to GY AS6. Night and day! Huge wet/cold grip and SO quiet, and sporty feel.

I have read professional reviews that the PS5 are redesigned PS4 with focus on wear performance making the PS5 wear the best in class but possibly not much improvement on anything else (not that you can improve on much other than maybe the noise levels).
The PS3 were good and made it well worth the money for the grip/wear, the PS4 were only just worth getting as the wear was poor but grip excellent, the PS5 are meant to correct that wear issue and should last (they say) for about 30k. But obviously where, what and how you drive will influence that.

@@Darfyddii had PS4 and they lasted me about 50k km or about 30k miles. My car is lowered so it has a slightly more negative camber than stock. I’d say the PS4 was great in terms of wear for a UHP tyre. The front lasted longer, but not by much. But then again, I use the car to commute to work, meaning there’s a lot of traffic. If the car is driven spiritedly everyday, then of course the tyres would wear a lot faster.

It is exactly what OT mentioned. RWD + PS5 = Best for wet traction. It will give you a lot of security on your GT86.
You can push the corner much harder on your wet and dry, with a trade off of precise handling, a bit too comforted steering, grippy with understeer. Most importantly, your rear won't slide as regularly as you might like, especially when driving an 86.
