Know Your Mods Ep3 : Tires - Michelin Pilot Super Sports

  • Today on Know Your Mods, Tires. Mike breaks down the key benefits of our most popular tire choice among our customers, the Michelin Pilot Super Sports.
    All the performance and handling mods you add to your car simply mean nothing unless you can translate them into the road your driving on. Tires are by far the most important component of your vehicle as everything from acceleration, braking, and cornering ability relies on the small contact patch between the road and your tires.
    Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires set themselves above the competition and utilize many unique design and tread features that are not found on other brands. They are made in a multi segmented mold which allows for more precise and intricate tread patterns. This lets the inside tread and outside tread have two different designs both optimized for different road conditions.
    The inside portion of the tire features an extra grippy elastomer compound to provide high speed stability and wet road security. While the outside edge uses a high strength Carbon-Black reinforced elastomer providing sharp handling response and cornering force.
    Quite literally the Michelin Pilot Super Sports offer two tires in one, optimized for the maximum amount of grip and performance in both wet and dry conditions. They are trusted by OEMs and high performance exotic car manufactures around the world for a reason, find out why for yourself and pick up a set for your own car.
    All tire sizes listed on our site are in stock and ready for immediate shipment. We also provide complete wheel and tire packages for customers who are picking up new wheels as well.

    Hi. Thanks for a great video. How would you compare the Michelin Pilot Super Sport versus the new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and especially the Pilot Sport 4 S? We only currently get the Pilot Sport 4, not the 4 S yet, and the Pilot Super Sport here in Greece. I have a VW Golf GTI and I like enthusiastic driving. I need new tires and I'm thinking of just getting the Pilot Super Sports again. I'm hearing the Pilot Sport 4 is not as performance oriented as the PSS, but that the 4 S is which, again, we don't get here yet. Thanks for any thoughts or advice. Cheers from John in Greece. ps it does rain quite a bit here in the winter.

      The short version of the story is this. The Pilot Sport 4 is designed more as an OEM sporty tire, where as the PS4S is a full sucessor to the Super Sport with a greater emphases on grip and traction vs rolling resistance and emissions. For more detail, check out our video we did with a Michelin Tire engineer where he talks about this vary point.

  • @jx906
    @jx906 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Please don't get me wrong, I am very seriously considering these tires as replacements for what I have now (which are run flats), and I am positive that the performance would be epic. I cannot justify, however, buying such an expensive tire and not getting the benefit of a run flat, as my car does not have any sort of spare tire option, nor does it have a 12 volt compressor and tire sealant. If I get a flat, I am stuck until I get towed to a tire shop that can fix (if possible) or replace the tire which could take a week or more. How much would a flat cost me on this tire in money and time? Would the repair affect high speed reliability? For me this is a huge point to consider, knowing that most flats, although rare, are caused by small diameter objects that a run flat can handle.

    • @Modbargains-google-plus
      @Modbargains-google-plus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The /30 sized tires will be a little bit taller and 'puffier' looking then the lower profile /25 sized ones. The end result would mean every time the /30 tire rolls, it will cover almost 5% more distance than the /25 sized tires. This can cause some confusion with speedometer readings which could get you pulled over for accidentally speeding for example, or cause error codes with a vehicles ABS systems, etc.
      The reason the price is higher for those /25 sized ones is two fold. 1) The lower the profile of the tire, the more difficult the mold is to make and manufacture. 2) Fewer vehicles need tires in this size, so due to economies of scale they are also more expensive since fewer tires are sold in that size vs a more standard 18" variation.

    • @SUBIESAMURAI07

      Hi Sharpe, well this tire has been replaced by the PS4S - th-cam.com/video/Y0gUWOY36z8/w-d-xo.html the other tire that competes in this category is the Continental Extreme Contact Sport, and if we threw all season into the mis - it would be the DWS 06 to consider : th-cam.com/video/Cz0w8Sw9dZM/w-d-xo.html

    The top summer tire is the Michelin Pilot Sport 2, not that SS.

      carreramike Incorrect. The PS2 is old tech.

    • @carreramike
      @carreramike 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      you are incorrect. Learn the Michelin tire hierarchy. SS is the affordable PS2. PS2s still goes on as the factory installed for the top Ferraris and Porsches, MBs.

      PS2 tech is over a decade old, sir.
      Find me a vehicle produced TODAY, that is being equipped with PS2 tires.
      2017 Ferrari 488 GTB - Pilot Super Sport
      2017 Ferrari F12 - Pilot Super Sport
      2017 Mercedes GT-S - Pilot Super Sport
      2016 Mercedes C63S - Pilot Super Sport
      Porsche press release for updating recommended Carrera GT tires to Pilot Super Sports: press.porsche.com/news/release.php?id=805
      All of the currently produced PS2 tires are for older vehicles that came with manufacturer specific models of the PS2. Rather than re-certifying tires for cars no longer in production, it is easier to continue producing them and monetizing a decade old technology.
      Better dry handling, dry braking, wet handling, wet braking, longer tread life on road & track, less road noise and improved road compliance. All those improvements were stated by MICHELIN DIRECTLY, at the 2013 Dubai press event.
      Buy the best. Buy PSS.

      My point to you is the PS2 is the TOP Mich summer performance tire (not counting the Cup for some track use), NOT the SS as the video mentioned. Im aware that PS2 is old, cause Ive had it on all my 911s. I use the SS now. SS is right below the PS2 on all around performance. Why do you think the PS2 cost more?

    • @ButterNutter37
      @ButterNutter37 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because of lower production, duh.

      NO THERE NOT.
      There still in full production I bought a set for my M3 and in a few weeks I’ll buy them for my M5. The PSS are one of Michelin’s biggest selling tires.

      Pilot Super Sports (& now the PS4S) are the ideal tire for any high horsepower or high torque vehicle. They are by far the highest rated and best selling summer performance tire we offer. So whether it be a new 2017 Acura NSX (a US domestic Japanese car), or your modified 600hp 94 Toyota Supra (a Japanese Domestic Car). Michelin has you covered.

      For any vehicle pushing north of 300 hp to the wheels, the PSS's were king. They have now been replaced by the new PS4S tire starting with 19" and 20" sizes with 18" sizes being released now.
