80k DR controller player here, the main issue with pad on this game is the insane turning speed limit imposed by the game which makes certain corner types almost impossible to replicate on pad vs wheel. Going from full lock to full lock takes roughly twice as long as it does on a wheel. The pad also limits how much steering input you can use, for example the downhill left hander on this track, Digit says the car goes wider on pad, it’s because the game limits how much lock you can apply. Often it’s not a problem, but occasionally like on this track it genuinely makes it impossible to replicate the lines wheel users take.
Good comment and 100% agree. Monza T1 is perfect example of this. That is, if we are only talking about tracks. When you bring cars into the mix, well, the faster they are the worse it gets for controller. I can't even bother doing VGT Time Trials for this reason. Whatever car or track combo requires you to do swift and precise turning inputs, the worse it is for controller. Another disadvantage for the controller that is not mentioned here is the lack of precision. A track like Spa with long, constant-radius corners (oh and Eau Rouge btw) rewards you for precise and gentle inputs and you will always have an advantage there with wheel and pedals. I appreciate the video, but RBR, where your laptime is dictated mostly by exit speed from a few slowish corners on to a straight is not an honest comparison.
I have been thinking lately that the steering lock on controller is reduced compared to using a wheel, I noticed when racing in sport mode that other drivers can carry more speed through a corner, or can hold a tighter line than me at the same speed (in the same car) it’s time for me to invest in a wheel!
PD/Sony did an amazing job with the DualSense and I think it's pretty good for racing. You can actually get really close to top times quicker due to the "background assists" when you drive using a controller (especially in road cars). Wheel does allow for higher ceiling, but it requires a lot more practice, do not assume that you will immediately become faster when you make the switch. I actually dropped from DR A to DR B during my transition from the ctrl to G29. Wheel does have an edge in tire saving races and enjoyment/immersion, but do not write off the DualSense, it is very usable.
sorry man.. but DS4 its better,, short travel on the trigger helps a lot to control a trail braking,, analog stick its the same thing .. loooong travel on dualsense an a stragne sponge feel on... However, this is just my humble opinion
This is true. I was so bad on wheel when I transitioned… but after 2 weeks it was amazing. Controller is great on gt7 compared to other sims (asseto corsa on controller is hot garbage). U just have to be perfect on controller, no room for small adjustments, whereas on a wheel u can make small adjustments much easier.
Congrats for your top 10 digit😊. After my experience of the controller and the wheel and got some records with them, I think I can tell the difference between them as well. You can compete with the best players on the controller if you master it. Before I switched to the wheel I was a controller player and I got many top 10 records with it when I was very new in the game so they are both fast and almost the same pace in "time trials" in most combos not all, but the problem with the controller is in the race I think it’s very difficult to be consistent and you will struggle a lot with tire wear.
Hello everyone, I play on ds5 from the beggining and from my experience you can get easily to the top A+ lobby and end up in the middle of the pack. The biggest issue from my point of view is 1. Tyre wear 2. Slow and tight corners are screwed because with stick it take ages to make car turn and with motion you do not have force feedback so it is easy to spin. So slow corners are the nightmare. Foe exaple on Fuji I am losing about 0.2-0.4s at slow sector.
Controller player here. It's possible to be competitive with a controller - i've managed to achieve A+, it's possible to be quick in any race - with a lot of practice. The one thing against is in the longer races (especially in Manufactures/Nations). Don't know if it's only with me, but i feel that the tyre wear is a lot bigger for players with a controller. But, as i said, can be my experience and other players feel the exact opposite.
Yeah I’m A+. Won 20 races out of 60 on controller. My qualifying time last week here was 28.5 on controller with generally a 29.3-5 race pace. Some tracks are harder though
You are correct. Tyre wear is worse on a controller. Specifically for the front tyres which, funnily enough, means that MR cars have a bit better tyre wear than on wheel. Because MR cars normally wear the rear tyres more, so combined with controller front tyre wear, makes the tyre wear more balanced.
In this track, last week my lap time was in top 300 and im a controller driver. My dr is A+, i know i can't compete with the best drivers who use the steering wheel, but in general you can be very competitive even with a controller
To everybody watching this: this is DIGIT experience with the controller. When he said "I can't trailbrake with the controller", its HE Digit. IT IS possible to Trailbrake with a pad, yes. It's was not a device issue, but player's. And Digit got a Top 2000, but I'm sure 30%~50% of the players between Top 1 and Top 2000 are controller players.
I would like to see a video PSVR2 versus 2D screen driving. The braking points and perspective are quite different in my view. I only drive in VR now. keep up the great content salut from Quebec Canada 🇨🇦
I'm on controller and have been stuck in B for about 300 races, ive popped into low A a few times but i always fall back down to B --- Your right, recovering from mistakes is really easy on controller, and trail braking is VERY hard. Those 25% breaking points are really hard to consistently hit as well.
I was in Top B for 1000+ races, maybe it took me this much because i made bad decisions and ended up dropping in SR, but after 1000+ races and being more serious about race craft i was able to get to A and even high A after a couple weeks, it‘s possible
Disagree, trail braking is doable once you’re used to the controller in general, i look at how much braking is applied vy fast drivers and i am sometimes looking at the input when breaking to nail it, when you are used to the track you no longer need to look at the inputs and can focus on the track and traffic
Watch the inputs and turning points of the fastest drivers, practice the quali for however long it takes until you think you can’t improve your time, then you should be warmed up enough to be competitive in a race, set yourself the minimum target of top8 to be „within the points“ and a target of top 5 in general and a target of top 3 if everything goes perfect - be happy with the minimum targets like top 5 and if it doesn’t go well keep in mind top 8 is fine - usually with experience you know in quali when you can or can’t find more time Have fun
@@scarfejs_ I should definitely focus on "memorizing" where the 25% 50% 75% break points are on controller, i also dont watch how much the top drivers brake. Both are great ideas on how I can improve, thanks. Ive been tunnel visioning my focus on racing lines and brake points, and less on the actual % of brake used.
its never wheel or controller i see it as personal preference, it is always the skill. when to brake, how to brake, managing throttle during the turn, full throttle on the exit etc... wheel or controller play what you enjoy, but bring the skill in order to be competitive.
Never? really? big claim considering you seem to have nothing to back that up except "personal preference". meanwhile most people will recommend Wheels and Pedals over a controller. That's not saying that one is necessarily faster then the other over a single lap. I can however tell you as someone who started off on a wheel and is now on a controller that being consistent over a full race (15 minutes ish or more) takes a lot more effort on a controller then it does on a wheel. I'm not even taking fuel and tire saving in to consideration here which adds another drawback to the controller over longer races. Also the complete lack of force feedback when it comes to determining the grip you have is a big loss on the controller, it's literally taking away one of your senses. So you can about "skill" being the main thing but at the end of the day no matter what you say, it takes less "skill" to win a race on a wheel then it does on a controller.
Tip for everyone playing on controller. Go to the settings and turn both the adaptive trigger effect and steering sensitivity to max. This will give you more precise inputs.
@@X_BILSONare you sure about this? I mean you can also turn like 70-90% on controller instead of 100%. I do use highest values because I want the car to follow my inputs as fast as possible. To reduce sensitivity this would mean to apply earlier inputs right? So to say that I have to turn in earlier to let the car do the corner?
Thanks for the video. I am using pad only and I am a A+ driver and aimed for around P1000 worldwide. Since being in RTR we push each other further and normally I reach P200-P500 which means around P20-30 in Germany. I think it’s all about getting used to it. 👌
Interesting comparison Digit…I know some of the very top drivers still use a controller and after seeing this it just makes their achievement even more impressive tbh…fair play to anyone that’s fast on a controller ❤️👍
This is useful video and i think that Road Atlanta is better comparison between controller and wheel. You have first corner which there is no way (at least for me, so yeah lack of skill) that you can carry the speed as top drivers (they carry 300km/h and best i can do is 290). And then here come the Esses...if there is someone that can beat top 10 drivers in the world in that sector with controller - congrats. And here you go. First sector and you already behind almost a second. I manage to do 1:00.400 with optional best time 1:00.150 but simply cant put fastest sectors into whole lap (you guess - first sector). Generally, dual sense is a great and offers those drivers (who dont have wheel) opportunity to be, in best case scenarios and depending on tracks, within a 1 or 1.5 sec. of the best time. Which isnt great but also isnt bad. Everything thats beeing said in this video are correct.
Good video once again - Thanks! This video and comments below increased my understanding of how this game is developed on how wheel and controller works in it. It's a nature of game that both (controller and wheel) are competitive, and it's good in my opinion. For me most important is good races against people. It doesn't matter for me that are people using controller or wheel. I use wheel because I like it. Sure good wheel and rig are expensive and those needs a lot of space.
Interesting view. I was suprised that you managed the steering so well with the ds5 and felt not so positive about the feel of the haptic trigers. I had experience with t3pa from t300 gt rs and csl elites (no load cell the ones that look like the v2) they all felt way to soft and hard to modulate braking especially the t3pa's (yes i had ruber mods). The R2\L2 trigers have this nice resistence and feedback to them, making them feel much more alive than springs on starter pedals. Sometimes the cogging on the haptics hinders trying to feather the gas, but still very impressive for a controller. Steering is where i have many dificulties. When i want to take tight corners or just making smooth cornering on inconventional lines as you sometimes have to do when racing side by side the controller is just harder to place the car where i want.
i play GT sport in PS4 pro and using the dualshock that came with the playstation ( i can't remember what version of the controller ). and am ok with it. but am struggling when any RWD cars start to drift when i don't want it to do it. so i prefer the steering wheel over controller in racing games. especially in games that designed with steering wheel in mind and the controller as after thought. and yeah. i agree with you as the driving is playing a big part of the racing. but what i said is the other part of it. thank you for the video. (( update after playing GT7 also with the controller )): With the controller it's more hard to drive and get FULLY control of the car ( especially when you in Cockpit view ) you well see is the steering wheel in the car doesn't turn fully to the either side and also turn slowly ( i know the steering animation int Gran Turismo is sucks 😩 ) which some times cause the understeer even if the car have a good handling but still is annoying and distracting and make misjudge the condition or the situation so you well ended up with horrible drive. and am struggling with some missions and races in the game i can't simply easy finish it with better result. and now at this time when am writing this comment i have a little pain in my right hand because the controller after an excessive drive and push more to get a better result 😔😩..
This is very much Digit's experience with the controller and not necessarily representative for all. There are, of course, a lot of very fast players on controller. I race in A and wouldn't consider myself anywhere near as quick as Digit, but I did get a faster lap on controller for that race (1.29.021)
I used to play with controler and managed to rise to DR: B I only used joysticks for steering amd also the right stick to accelerate and braking. Its the most precise way to be decent on the track. Trailbrake is more smooth also the gentle accelerations
What you say I say that all the time from the 1st day i start playing.thanknyou fornyour honesty.i used to play GT the last one i play was the GT4 then is stop for many many years and i start play the GT7 .my times are 2 to 3 seconds slower all the time i cant apply half breaking or acceleration or full way or nothing.same with steering .thank you ones again for been honest .am playing for fun not to prove that am a good.sony must have times with steering and for remote because not the same
It is funny I know some guys that are top 50 in the World and they use PS4's and controllers. I also know a couple of guys that are nearly as fast and they have G29's or CSL Elites. Then there is me much much slower on an 8 NM GT DD but I am disabled and take a lot of medicine that slows me down. Not complaining, I get to have an immersive experience.
Okay.. here is my thought.. if, you will make a quick video of the track and car used, by that I mean is it custom or circuit experience no bop etc.. I can try to emulate your skills so I know what level I am at against an A+ Driver. I use controller and tend to be within 1.0 and 1.5 seconds of No. 1 driver for most races, dailies and lap times. I would love to test myself against your lap times and I bet a lot of others would too. This way we get to test ourselves against a legend such as yourself m8. Love your work.
With controller I was also stuck in the upper B rank, with wheel - after a lot of practice - I easily went to A and low A+ as well... But I always used motion control and never the sticks... and even if I will be as fast with the controller, the driving experience with a wheel is from another planet. QT at Red Bull Ring this week - 1:28:4xx (Porsche)
Hey do you use some kind of frame where you put controller while using motion? I found myself very difficult to drive when I keep controller in my hands. I noticed also that on motion is easier to turn on slow corners but still I just can not switch to motion
Trail Breaking in curves was alot better in GT Sport on PS4. Now in GT7 its weird with the new controller because of the haptic triggers you can't keept the trigger consistent on the same position to get the this feeling of drosseling your car in the first half of the curve to get a better inside and then accelerate, this breaker my immersion with gt7 in PS5 I might getting a wheel in the near future.
I haven't much time with the DS5 but playing GT with the left stick on that position should be hard. Especially as the hand becomes fatigued. On the PS3 I preferred to use the dpad.
The same feeling that "racers" have while placing their seat on the car's roof or bumpers hahah. I don't get it. I see people that like simulation, playing on cockpit view and people that like to just play videogames through others views. I would like to have a feature to restrict cam view while creating a custom online race.
It would be an amazing quality of life improvement if they just added a small little icon next to each Time Trial entry displaying if the input used was controller or wheel/pedal. I often wonder how I really stack up against many other controller users.
Biggest difference for me is the immersion. Control is cool for like coach potato gaming but nothing beats a good sim setup. Even if your slower on wheel it’s still more satisfying and personally I feel more confident on wheel to use all the track than on control where a small flick can put you over the track limits. You just have much finer control on wheel with just about everything, from steering to throttle inputs. I’m not saying wheel is better or faster it’s really personal preference but once you’ve tried a proper sim rig and get use to it, it’s hard to go back to control.
@@alexeichikish2221 well yeah but you don’t really need it. It’s really just about personal preference, and whether you have the space/budget. My point is you can still be competitive with control but wheel still has its advantages. There’s also a learning curve to, most people who just start are gonna be slower than their controller times. It still takes practice to be fast on wheel and pedals, unless you’ve had past experience your not just gonna hop on and win every single race.
@@dbzcollector9963 you just don't get my point. How can man feel driving the car with controller? The time and driving level mean nothing to satisfaction from sim games.
@@alexeichikish2221 I think it’s you who doesn’t get it, if your only argument is the feel of it then you should have suggested a DD wheel instead of a crappy cog and gear g27…. Again tho the feel of it isn’t gonna be the biggest factor when choosing between the two. It’s gonna be price, and whether or not you even have the space for a wheel setup cause even if you’re using a desk it’s still gonna take up space. If your getting a wheel tho you probably want a cockpit since your going for immersion over speed/ lap times. Even then it’s still really personal preference cause some people will choose speed over immersion and in some games controller is faster.
I find that especialy when trying The human comedy challanges with a controler, my cars want to drive straight out of corners. In each setting and each tire (wear) and of course not only when hitting bumby curbs. Does anyone else has this problem?
This would demand you to give up on the wheel setup entirely to do this and then it depends if it takes days or weeks to get used to the motion control and controller and then another period of finding time, seems to be to mich of a hassle, this is good for people who don’t want to or can’t get a wheel setup they have lots of time to get used to the controller and then time to find time to become competitive
A seemed impossible for me on motion control until i got into A, now A+ seems impossible, when i get A+ drivers they are too consistent and quick, i was once able to hang on 3-4 rounds until i started to fade away, also the tyres, even if you are good at nurturing them during the race, will go quicker than the tyres with the wheel drivers
It's not a fair comparison because you don't use a controller regularly. I've been drive simulators for over 15 years, I've had all kinds of steering wheels, and I've been doing controller vs steering wheel comparisons like this for years. Now I also use a Fanatec DD, with a BMW GT2 and F1 steering wheel, but I also drive a lot with a controller! I have several lists, in various tasks, and according to my experience, there is no significant difference in a simple time trial event, and sometimes you can even get a better time with a controller (if you use it a lot). The advantages of the steering wheel can be felt in long-distance races, you can take better care of the tires and you can stay focused longer and make more constant lap times. 😊
Very specific about GT7, I was watching many replays I've captured and I realized that people on controller can be faster even not following track line and attacking corners. Seems the game "correct" mistakes when racing on controller. People basically racing in the middle of the track being able to accelerate as wouldn't have limits. I'm a guy who use to be no more than 2 seconds from track record, so besides I'm not the most experience racer, I'm not a newbie one too.
Ive used a controller all my life. Up until about 4 months ago. I got a G923 and man after i finally got over the learning curve, HOLY CRAP! Theirs ZERO going back to controller.
I think it is not fair to compare one method of driving, where you have thousands of hours of practice with another method of driving where you have practically zero. I'm sure that with a month of controller only practice, you would get very close to the wheel times. I guess you wouldn't reach it, but the difference would surely shrink from 1.5s to maybe 0.1-0.2s.
I attest that it is possible to reach the top 100 on DS4... I know someone who does it like this... for my part I am around 200 on a good day although I generally stay at 300-500... let this help so that people do not get confused. discouraged... I have been A+ in control and won 800+ races... now in transition to the wheel it definitely cost me work and time maybe a year but I can say that I am going a little faster and above all more comfortable with the wheel
yes man, ds4/ps4 I found a possibility to use a ps4 controller on the ps5, it is a brook wingman xe2 adapter and it works very well... for other games ;-C specifically for GT7 it does not work, it sends you an error message compatibility... in any case there is not much difference between a ps4 and a ps5 in terms of gt7. I can assure you that I prefer to play it on the PS4 Pro, I put an SSD in it, it's a little faster
I've been using the controller (and plat'd the game in 2022) until the past Xmas when my Black Friday order came in. To this date, I am still faster on my controller than on my wheel.
The main purpose of gt7 was realistic driving right ! So of course Wheels and pedal is much needed to be competitive and get the most experience out of the game. I say controller is a solid choice too but wheels does come up top for racing competitively.
@@valdurion6779 Controllers don't work w/o assists in GT7. Lock to lock on controller doesn't translate to lock to lock in the game. Rally with old physics was painful on a controller because it was slow and a wheel could turn much faster.
@@AndreiSZS Controllers have a LOT of hidden correction that makes a regular player appearing to be much better than he actually is. Take replays with players on wheels against controllers and see how the game correct the car on controller making it faster even racing completely off the perfect track line.
The controller is just good on tracks that are not really technical and don't need precision, for everything else it's not good enough, although Sony did a great job with it for racing overall for the average Joe.
You know what i find funny? That everyone is spending hunderds of dollars on wheels and pedals but then they race on a small monitor. Now i don't have pedals and a wheel, but i race on a benq tk700sti gaming projector on a 113 inch screen and it's so much more immersive. Something to consider i think for most sim racers. And input lag is a thing of the past for projectors. Mine has 16 m/s in 4k hdr.
The small monitor thing is intentional. With a wider monitor, important information is out of your field or view. Also the "wheel turn vs car turn" ratio gets weird. So its not like people never thought about bigger monitors, or they don´t have the money for it, its just not optimal.
@@efenbathank you for your reply. But i don't think i agree with that. Now i don't know about wheel turn getting weird due to the bigger screen. Because i am on a controller. But thinking about it : it should be better on a bigger screen because everything will be more realistic size wise right? And the not in your field of view thing would be corrected by the distance of the rig to the screen right? You will be way further away on a bigger screen. I love racing on my 113 inch screen so realistic with everything being up to size in real life. For example did you know that the track limit line of tracks that exist in real life are up to regulation size and between 10 and 25 cm wide. And that's the point I'm trying to make : every inch counts, but how can you see that inch on a screen that small?
logic will confirm that potentially controller type is only advantage depending on what the player is used to. if your not a controller player you wont get the times
No Michael no…the real true (how you sad) you had just 45 min in controller play in Gt7. Some people in the world in controller much more faster ! Im belive some controller player better/faster Than me with wheel. If U spend lot of time/practice Im sure your time will be nearly same with wheel. It’s a Gran Turismo.
Hey digit. I use a controller since gt sport and always half bar of A+... Im a lil more skilled with controller then you, specially at trailbrake ofc. Last week i bought a t300 to start with... My point of reference was exactly what you did but reversed 😂😂😂 First i spent a few hours doing a 1.28.776 on controller with optimun at 1.28.456 Next ai started praticed with my t300 and after a full week playing 2h per day, i manage a 1.29.3.... I was pretty disappointed with myself, but now I see, maybe I wasnt that bad for 20y of a wheel in my life
I must tell you that the ds4/ds5 - t300 transition is the same one that I did and it cost me a little over a year, it always disappointed me because it was around .700 - .500 slower on the wheel than on the ds4 specifically, however with labor work It will be hard for you to turn it around. For my part, I bought some TLCMs but the stock pedals are valid. The problem I found is that my feet were slow... I have to relearn to accelerate and above all to be tactful with my left foot and brake. Take into account that accelerating or braking is instantaneous in the ds4, with the pedals it is slightly slower, good luck and work hard, you will see that the wheel is worth it... with hard work I estimate about 2-3 months of adaptation
@@claudioalonsof1 thanks for your kind words and advice. My problem is exactly what you talked about slow feets 😂😂 and i will eventually get a TLCM. ty mate

I find this video completely unnecessary and misleading. It would be better if there were none, because this is exactly how misinformation is created. In this case, something is being compared with which I myself do not have adequate experience. What do I expect from such a test? I don't want to say that DualSense is comparable to a professional steering wheel and pedals. That's not the case and everyone knows it even without a video. My point is that the conclusions I draw by comparing the equipment I use for hours and hours a day to the one I try for 20 minutes are guaranteed to be inadequate facts. If I'm used to driving with a gamepad and I sit behind the wheel with pedals for the first time for twenty minutes, what will happen? I also won't be able to properly evaluate what the steering wheel is like because I don't have enough experience with it. Thumbs down for such dilettantism. Share quality, not a cheap crap.
While we do appreciate critiscim, your tone is way of line buddy. "dilettantism", "cheap crap"? Really? And you are the guy who misses the streams and later come here criticism the videos for not knowing the context. This is the case once more. Digit made this video cause people asked him to do it several times during the streams. " everyone knows it even without a video", but for some reason, "everyone still keeps asking for a video about it". I can understand your misinterpretation of the video objectives for not being a regular streamer viewer, and for always being out of context. But your tone is not acceptable. Please be more aware of this in your next comments, if you want to be considered as a "critic" and not a "hater".

►90% of all drivers are faster with the controller... A wheel + setup Costs A lot of money and 90% of the Drivers that have a exspensive wheel are never be that fast because of 1 thing: Not Many people have the ''Detremination'' to go for the TOP. So my advice... just stick with the Controller of 50 Euro if your not Willing to do the effort. ◄◄ Im a Stable DR A driver and i just Drive with X and Square Buttons◄◄ And im faster and More consistent then the majority Drivers with a wheel. Its just reality... People make each other Crazy to buy all those Expensive things but 99% of them can't reach the top 100 with all that Stuff. Just Facts. Thtas my XP and i drove on GT7 Almost 300.000 km. Just my Oppinion Fellas!
And its legit. It depends what one want to do. Compete or drive for fun. Im satisfied with controller and most of the times im within 1, 1.5 sec. behind top drivers. Sometimes can be a bit annoying (because i love to compete) to see how top drivers abuse track limits and on controller you have to be careful (for example Road Atlanta - the Esses). But other than that, you can still manage to get A or even A+ rank which isnt that bad.
For me discussion about wheel and controller is dum, who drive real car with joystick? If you want feel yourself as driver the cheapest wheel is better controller. As about sim races I think only wheels are used and picture from driver sit.
This is the true insights I expected from the video instead of a show how expensive the setup is
Good comment and 100% agree.
@@lilmeister44 it’s got a lot worse lately. PD essentially broke the game for pad players with the 1.48/1.49 updates.
this comment should have 1k plus upvotes, the steering lock on controller is pathetic PD has screwed controller players its pathetic
@@claudioalonsof1 haptic feedback on the ps5 controller is pretty dope
Ya true
Rally and snow I am wayyyyy faster on a controller compared to my thrustmaster t300rs gt! Road races are far better on wheel through!
Your best time on controller is still 2 tenths faster then my best time on wheel 🤣
The biggest issue from my point of view is
1. Tyre wear
But, as i said, can be my experience and other players feel the exact opposite.
no, you are correct, tyre degradation is worse on the ctrl for everyone
Watch the inputs and turning points of the fastest drivers, practice the quali for however long it takes until you think you can’t improve your time, then you should be warmed up enough to be competitive in a race, set yourself the minimum target of top8 to be „within the points“ and a target of top 5 in general and a target of top 3 if everything goes perfect - be happy with the minimum targets like top 5 and if it doesn’t go well keep in mind top 8 is fine - usually with experience you know in quali when you can or can’t find more time
Have fun
@@scarfejs_ I should definitely focus on "memorizing" where the 25% 50% 75% break points are on controller, i also dont watch how much the top drivers brake. Both are great ideas on how I can improve, thanks. Ive been tunnel visioning my focus on racing lines and brake points, and less on the actual % of brake used.
Wanna see you trying your Setup VS G29 wheel
I'll see what I can do
That would be fun lol
its never wheel or controller i see it as personal preference, it is always the skill. when to brake, how to brake, managing throttle during the turn, full throttle on the exit etc... wheel or controller play what you enjoy, but bring the skill in order to be competitive.
Never? really? big claim considering you seem to have nothing to back that up except "personal preference". meanwhile most people will recommend Wheels and Pedals over a controller.
I saw many people here in spain that can reach top 10 easily with the controller, its amazing
Since changing to a wheel for racing games. I cant go back to the controller. Fun levels drop immediately on controller. But thats just me
Good idea . A difference between the cams would be nice to see , too .
i play GT sport in PS4 pro and using the dualshock that came with the playstation ( i can't remember what version of the controller ). and am ok with it. but am struggling when any RWD cars start to drift when i don't want it to do it. so i prefer the steering wheel over controller in racing games. especially in games that designed with steering wheel in mind and the controller as after thought.
and yeah. i agree with you as the driving is playing a big part of the racing. but what i said is the other part of it.
thank you for the video.
(( update after playing GT7 also with the controller )):
With the controller it's more hard to drive and get FULLY control of the car ( especially when you in Cockpit view ) you well see is the steering wheel in the car doesn't turn fully to the either side and also turn slowly ( i know the steering animation int Gran Turismo is sucks 😩 ) which some times cause the understeer even if the car have a good handling but still is annoying and distracting and make misjudge the condition or the situation so you well ended up with horrible drive. and am struggling with some missions and races in the game i can't simply easy finish it with better result.
and now at this time when am writing this comment i have a little pain in my right hand because the controller after an excessive drive and push more to get a better result 😔😩..
This is very much Digit's experience with the controller and not necessarily representative for all. There are, of course, a lot of very fast players on controller. I race in A and wouldn't consider myself anywhere near as quick as Digit, but I did get a faster lap on controller for that race (1.29.021)
I used to play with controler and managed to rise to DR: B
I only used joysticks for steering amd also the right stick to accelerate and braking.
Not complaining, I get to have an immersive experience.
ya true...
I’m in the top 3200s of the world Top 3% of race tracks and I’ve only got 100 hours on GT7. Average is I do 18 minutes a day.
7 wins in B using a controller for me is so satisfying. You are still doing good using the controller.
Okay.. here is my thought.. if, you will make a quick video of the track and car used, by that I mean is it custom or circuit experience no bop etc..
You surely can get a really fast lap time with controller, but in terms of consistency throughout an entire race, wheel is just undoubtedly better
Gt7 is about feeling of steering the car as you are in it. What feeling you have with controller in hand? I do not understand folk with it.
Lots actually with the dualsense
@@dbzcollector9963 I am saing " wheel is better" even G27.
Even then it’s still really personal preference cause some people will choose speed over immersion and in some games controller is faster.
right stick for gear change, down=upshift, up=downshift💪🏽😎
I find that especialy when trying The human comedy challanges with a controler, my cars want to drive straight out of corners. In each setting and each tire (wear) and of course not only when hitting bumby curbs. Does anyone else has this problem?
Would love to see a series of you with a controller-only profile and how quickly you can get to A+ 😉
This would demand you to give up on the wheel setup entirely to do this and then it depends if it takes days or weeks to get used to the motion control and controller and then another period of finding time, seems to be to mich of a hassle, this is good for people who don’t want to or can’t get a wheel setup they have lots of time to get used to the controller and then time to find time to become competitive
That's true my friend 😉
Very specific about GT7, I was watching many replays I've captured and I realized that people on controller can be faster even not following track line and attacking corners. Seems the game "correct" mistakes when racing on controller. People basically racing in the middle of the track being able to accelerate as wouldn't have limits. I'm a guy who use to be no more than 2 seconds from track record, so besides I'm not the most experience racer, I'm not a newbie one too.
Thanks for your Video (Hvala)!!! Bas interesantno vidjeti koliko tehnika znaci.
I use the directional buttons on the controller and change the settings on it. Its more precise for me.
Are they on the ps4 using ds4?
yes man, ds4/ps4 I found a possibility to use a ps4 controller on the ps5, it is a brook wingman xe2 adapter and it works very well... for other games ;-C specifically for GT7 it does not work, it sends you an error message compatibility... in any case there is not much difference between a ps4 and a ps5 in terms of gt7. I can assure you that I prefer to play it on the PS4 Pro, I put an SSD in it, it's a little faster

I've been using the controller (and plat'd the game in 2022) until the past Xmas when my Black Friday order came in. To this date, I am still faster on my controller than on my wheel.
I do gold lap times on time trial events. Is it good for GT7 ? (Im playing f1 games competitively and I use xbox controller as main) Thanks.
The main purpose of gt7 was realistic driving right ! So of course Wheels and pedal is much needed to be competitive and get the most experience out of the game. I say controller is a solid choice too but wheels does come up top for racing competitively.
Motion is so dope and underrated

If a controller is good enough for some world tour finalists, it’s good enough for the average player. Both set ups have flaws.
What flaws do wheels have?
@@AndreiSZS you have to actually turn it way more, lock to lock takes forever physically in comparison, and there isno hidden tc assists.
@@valdurion6779 Controllers don't work w/o assists in GT7. Lock to lock on controller doesn't translate to lock to lock in the game. Rally with old physics was painful on a controller because it was slow and a wheel could turn much faster.

The controller is just good on tracks that are not really technical and don't need precision, for everything else it's not good enough, although Sony did a great job with it for racing overall for the average Joe.
Simply...wheel is more immersive then a controller! FFB is ok on GT7, just missing some details..I am using a DD Fanatec base on Ps5
I can't even play on a controller anymore, it started to feel really weird.
logic will confirm that potentially controller type is only advantage depending on what the player is used to. if your not a controller player you wont get the times

No Michael no…the real true (how you sad) you had just 45 min in controller play in Gt7. Some people in the world in controller much more faster ! I see
And people with life and joyoads has no chance on gr3 and gr4 . Not even an option to turn it off.
Hey digit. I use a controller since gt sport and always half bar of A+... Im a lil more skilled with controller then you, specially at trailbrake ofc. Last week i bought a t300 to start with... My point of reference was exactly what you did but reversed 😂😂😂
First i spent a few hours doing a 1.28.776 on controller with optimun at 1.28.456
Next ai started praticed with my t300 and after a full week playing 2h per day, i manage a 1.29.3....

Yooooo Digi

I can understand your misinterpretation of the video objectives for not being a regular streamer viewer, and for always being out of context. But your tone is not acceptable. Please be more aware of this in your next comments, if you want to be considered as a "critic" and not a "hater".
@@efenba You are right. My tone is not adequate which is caused by the fact english is not my mother language. Which is not an excuse. I am sorry for that. I did not want to insult, only express my opinion.
I can’t even beat your time using the controller….
@@MultiGIJose I Agree for 100% ;) ( i'm around 1.7 sec above P1 with x and Square buttons) I can compeed :)
@@Jurassic_Thrones and thats the most important 😊
Can't wait to go over to a wheel and pedals to gain 1.5s! 😉😎
For me discussion about wheel and controller is dum, who drive real car with joystick? If you want feel yourself as driver the cheapest wheel is better controller. As about sim races I think only wheels are used and picture from driver sit.
Those who cant afford it or dont have space for wheel setup.
