It looks lovely Patara. I like that you are practical. I hate seeing people rip out wood cabinets when the ones they have can be “refurbished”. I love the two tone. Great job. It’s YOU and that is wonderful.

I love that you painted the doors black but kept the cabinet’s original woodtones! The cook stove is the icing on the cake.

Have not seen your channel before, but just wanted to say your kitchen is gorgeous. To my eyes it's the perfect size and shape. Love that you kept the cabinets - they will be much better quality than modern if they date to 1975. Also, don't even think about knocking out that wall! Open concept kitchens are going the way of the dinosaur, and many women (especially those with a family) are realising that it's actually wonderful to have a room just for themselves - where they can close the door and lose themselves in the creation of meals .... or just as a personal sanctuary in which to sit and enjoy a cup of tea. The appeal of guests watching you cook is rapidly losing appeal, too. People are finding it just adds pressure, and can be very distracting. If we want to chat while cooking, we can always invite one at a time into our special place 😊

Oh! It’s SO pretty, Patara! I know you are thrilled that it’s ‘nearly’ complete. You did a great job on the gray brick backsplash. I’m like you … not a decorator. God just didn’t bless me with that skill. But like you, I know what I like 😊. God bless you in the upcoming year with peace, prosperity, and amazing health. 🤗.

Looks GOOD! And I like that you didn't spend a whole lot of money to get a more 'updated' looking kitchen. Simple products that can be 'cared for' and if necessary 'changed out'. Good deal!

I've always preferred a Formica countertop to the more expensive options because they take less care and hold up to some rough treatment. And as you have shown us, there are so many new, updated, beautiful designs available. Absolutely love how the colors all work with each other, you did a great job! Even the areas where you left the original wallpaper don't seem so overwhelming or outdated now because they are balanced with the updated finishes in the main portion. Absolutely beautiful but practical for your needs.

Your kitchen is coming right along! Looks good!
An idea to bring more light in (sorry, I used to be a kitchen designer, lol) is to install some under cabinet lighting. You can install a small light fixture under each cabinet or under a couple of them and daisy chain the wiring so that you have only one plug - then plug it in in the same socket you have the light fixture over sink plugged into. You can set them up so that they're always 'on' from the plug but can turn them on at each fixture. There are some made to hide behind the bottom lip of the cabinet in various different lengths or there is the rope lighting. More lighting makes work so much better and with the dark cabinet fronts, it'll add to your comfort.
    Merry Christmas!

Couldn’t agree more about doing it YOUR way! I totally started doing what I want not what future buyers want. I don’t plan on moving we’ve lived in our home for 16 years ( we had it built) I had the builders grade cabinets and I hated the color so much, they said it was what I chose but I knew it wasn’t because I hate blonde wood 😂 I finally painted them white and wow what a difference it made, it makes me so happy now ! I have real estate friends who kept telling me keep your home basic for resell purposes, well we decided we aren’t going anywhere now we’re retired ( early retirement) so we started last year doing everything we like in it, we love our home so much now it’s a reflection of who we are and it’s cozy and fun! Your kitchen is darling I love it!

Just adding that the cheapest way to bring more light in, is to replace that solid back door with a French door. Adding artificial lighting means ongoing cost, and less appeal than sunlight. A French door is always very country, too - and would be perfect with your decor.

A few years ago, when I was still trucking with my hubby, we came home to a flood in our kitchen (the pipe behind the washing machine busted). Soo we had to have several things redone and I picked black cabinets which I STILL love!! Many told me it would be too dark, nope not at all!! Thank you for the idea of how I could do a backsplash!! It's a great idea to start with the base of the old cabinets because they used to make them out of real wood. New cabinets are either extremely cheap wood or fake particles, so the old is much better! Your renno looks very nice and coherent, Patera! I especially love the wood stove and the chickens. I don't have room for a woodstove in my main kitchen, but I'm seriously considering adding it to the kitchen in the basement! It will be so helpful during SHTF.

I love your kitchen! My Mother had an amazing cookstove she ordered from Montgomery Wards. She cooked on it all the time. I learned to chop wood and make kindling for that stove. When she died and my Daddy sold the farm he left the stove assuming the new owners wanted it. Two days after they took possession they tore it out and hauled it to the scrap yard. My heart was 💔 so seeing yours made me smile. 🙂 Thank you and God bless.

Very nice! Kudos for keeping it a real hard-working kitchen that looks like it's received a little love but hasn't had the personality stripped out of it. Love the two-toned cabinets! Bringing in black helps make the wood stove feel like an intentional choice and prevents the entire space from looking like odds and ends cobbled together. Glimpses of wood along the edges of the cabinets and in the flooring add warmth and prevents the black from taking over. Repeating the stainless steel of the sink on the island (or vice versa) also lends a cohesive touch. The counter top ties it all up with a bow. It brings in tones from the stainless steel, the wood tones, the black elements, and the backsplash - which I love - all together in one place. The sweet chickens add just the right note of personality. Fabulous! ~ Lisa

Your kitchen is gorgeous! Love all those cabinets! The black is sharp looking with the backsplash@counter tops! Love the stainless steel sink, love stainless steel also. You and James did great putting it altogether! They say it's a true test of marriage when you renovate a kitchen or bathroom together? But, like the two of you,it will stand the test of time! Wow,yes, thank the LORD you found out about the wiring behind the stove!!! Yes,GOD is in the details of your lives, that's for be sure!

It looks amazing!! Weused that peel and stick wallpaper for our kitchen back splash ours is a white washed barn wood pattern and My son and I put it up about 4 years ago and it is still holding up great even behind the stove that was where I thought it would pull up ,but nope!! Still is doing just fine. Our kitchen is black cabinets and chopping block wooden counter tops and we got new wood looking deluxe linoleum flooring ,it's not your grandmas linoleum flooring of the 70's .LOL!! It is so nice and it is textured to feel like wooden floors. We Love it. I Tell people if they come to my house and say Why didn't you do this or that? I say hey I Live here and I did what I could afford and if you came over to my house to judge my home on what it looks like or doesn't look like then you can leave, when I go to someone 's house I go to see Them ,Not what their house looks like . I am not the kind of person (like you)that needs to have whatever everyone else has in their home,My grandfather always said " You like what You like and I like what I like ,and let it go at that. You guys did an awesome job and taking pride in what you did is awesome .You guys should be proud!!huhs from. Lancaster ,Pa.💓🙏

Your kitchen looks beautiful, everything came together nicely. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and fun cooking in your completed kitchen 💗
I am going to look into the back splash for my kitchen! It really looks nice. Wondering if you were going to put more of the brick above the cabinets?
    Thank you Patara for sharing

Kitchen looks great! I just wanted to suggest a "plug in switch tap" for your pendant light. Its literally just a little adapter that plugs into your outlet - it has a switch on the side that turns off the power. I am sure they are on Amazon, but Home depot should stock them for about $6. Obviously if you are okay with unplugging etc than maybe its not worth the $6 but figured it might be worth mentioning.

I really like what you did for the backsplash! It looks like real brick to me. Of course I'm not right there. Kitchen looks so nice. I love it!
