Tip for rub and buff: a little goes a very long way! You may have actually overdone it and that may be contributing to it rubbing off. It can also cause texture issues. You want to rub some on, make sure there’s a thin coat, and then buff with another cloth that isn’t covered in the paint. This will make the finish even and shiny. And once you’ve gotten it where you like it, stop, put down the piece, and don’t touch it for about 24 hours to let it fully cure (you could get fingerprints otherwise). My mom has been a rub and buff aficionado for 30 years. That’s how she does it.

I have found if you use too much it pulls off the finish before it sets. You could also once cured put poly over it.

Curious….the antique sconces on your wall over your cabinets. Are they suppose to hanging down? Also…you might have over done it with the rub n buff, a little goes a long way…😁
Beautiful job. Love the new look.

Farmhouse on Boone is like a breath of fresh air. You can't appreciate how much work and renovation you've done until you look at where you started. What a difference between the before and after! That's a labor of love right there.

Hey Lisa! I use Rub 'n Buff on a lot of things. I've used it on handles, knobs, hinges, screws etc. What works for me is using a matte clear coat spray paint after applying the rub 'n buff. I like the extra layer of protection, so I know it's not going anywhere.

The painting now in the dining area with its frame looks wonderful against the wall paint and with the chandelier nearby. I like the look of the Target still life by the kitchen window. I love the rug in the dining area. The one in the kitchen area is good, too.

Have admired your kitchen for many years. Recently completed a 1931 home and put in a sink like yours with the high back splash. Bar Keepers Friend is what I have used to clean with. I would love to know your sink cleaning tricks, yours always looks so shiny and new. I have also had some Rub and Buff on door hinges and knobs but nothing that gets the use as on cabinet doors. Rustoleum has some really pretty metalic sprays that did lovely jobs on claw foot tub feet, an old ceiling fan light kit update and the real winner was the heat register covers making them look vintage and new. Love the changes!

Would you consider making a video sharing each of your rooms rugs? Most people these days have a very open floor plan (I know I do!) and it would be super helpful to see some of your rug pairings. How do you go about rug shopping? Do you choose one color of your choice and then just run with it throughout the entire home? I am having such a difficult time with this!

Having grown up being my family's farm houses, I was surprised that you took the glass fronted cabinets down. I've been in farm houses around the country and in Europe and cupboards are the norm, not open shelving. With al that goes on in a farm kitchen, which you well know, most farm wives preferred to keep their dishes and supplies in a cupboard to keep things clean. But it's your kitchen and you do what works for you. The refresh looks nice.

  • @libbysimpson9127

Keep a check on that vinyl rug. The backing usually reacts to any type of finish on floors, causing your floors to discolor. Same thing with putting rubber backed mats on top of vinyl rugs. Looks great.

Use spray paint.....Rust-oleum Metallic Champagne Bronze. Does NOT come off...and looks just like tarnished gold. I LOVE IT..I've used it on numerous things, (picture frames, draw handles, metal lamp bases, etc) Only use rub and buff for little smaller projects, and very sparingly.

  • @shellydehart8217
    @shellydehart8217 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Lisa, the blue is perfect. It goes so well in a Victorian farm house. It also shows off your antiques. Great choice. A suggestion on your kitchen hardware. Love that rub n buff. Since those handles are touched constantly I would of sprayed them with a can of poly acrylic. That would help so much. You still may have to touch up but not as often. Love your curtains you made. Did you know that there supposed to hang just touching the window sill? I learned that from a 90ty yr. old lady. But it’s what you prefer.
Really like all the changes. It looks so good n refreshing.
    ♥️😊👍🌟🌟

gosh!!! has it been 4 years??!!!!!! I clearly remember the first views of the house and fell in love as is....I bet you could go back and look at the comments and you will see mine stating just how wonderful the house was and I loved it, & couldn't wait to see all you would do to it!!!! that kitchen sink...I grew up with a cast iron double drainboard sink, I kept it but where it was stored, it disappeared....big sigh, I remember lying on on drain board as a small girl and mama washing my hair....

I couldn't agree more... personally I am so tired of the 'white on white' look... it always looked too sterile to me and when EVERYONE does it... each home is just a clone of the next. I absolutely love the warmth of the colors you've added... Great Job and it has such an inviting, cozy and personal feel to it.

LOVE the blue/ grey paint in your kitchen - - it's lovely & as such a depth to your kitchen! You all have done such a lovely job with your kitchen - - what a transformation it has been!!! As far as the lamp that was in the corner - - I love putting little lamps all over in the winter months to help keep my spirits up when things are too dark, too early & for too long. So, I found that putting little lamps or "timed" candles or "timed" lights in corners really helps me.... it helps me get through those dark days. So, if you need that lamp or some light source in that corner, I'd say put it back! It's amazing what an affect a warm, cozy corner can have on us..... esp when it gets dark at 4:30 p.m. : )

Such a relaxing space.... love your style ❤ I actually like the idea of the rub and buff wearing off .... theres a charm to the look of natural wear and tear....our dog clawed the bottom of the kitchen door when he was a puppy and he’s now 12 and his claw marks are still there and always will be as long as we are living here. He also chewed up a much loved bunny ragdoll and she sits on the kitchen chair slightly shredded and loved more than ever 🎉

CEDAR KEY==this is my hometown!!! It is a tiny little island on the Gulf of Mexico in northwest FL, I am so happy someone else discovered the beautiful soft shade of Benjamin Moore's "Cedar Key", I have been slowly repainting all of our common area's with this paint, I discovered it one day while flipping through a magazine's source list. It, of course, caught my eye because of it sharing my town's name--I just thought it a wonderful coincidence, and had to have it in my house! I'm so happy the color is beautiful because I probably would have still put it in my house somewhere no matter the color. LOL. Love your newly made over kitchen!

The refresh looks nice. Ithink the orange print is the viral Studio McGee print that i see vloggers you tubers all having and going to great lengths to obtain . I grew up on a farm it was always a spring and fall must do chore to wash all windows inside and out. Its a big job but a must. Dingy windows are sad and when the sunshines you see all the winters dust and dirt. Spring refresh is a great feeling. I wonder if you take the handles off and spray a clear protectant eurathane or sealant the rub nd buff would not come off.

Love the progression of this kitchen, and even just your overall aesthetic since I started following you in 2017 at your last house. Love the white always but to bring in all the vintage pieces and warm colors for the walls/furniture etc just makes everything so much warmer and beautiful. We have a very similar style so I’m definitely partial to this lol but always excited to see what you’re up to next 🥰

Beautiful Lisa!!! Love everything. Especially the new white color on your cabinets with the gold handles. And love the new light over your table/Island❣️

Love the way the windows “pop” when the walls were painted. I love it done even on whites - the very subtle difference that emphasizes the windows. It is subtle but makes the window’s architecture stand out.
