      I'm buying the same type of window and doing it myself with no help at all.
      Shims can be used to drive the screws I think I heard you say. I'm going to have large gaps 1" to 1.5" before driving the screws because I'm retrofitting my old aluminum windows and keeping the old frames.
      Do you think I can get away with using the inflatable AirShim to square the window, screws and then filling those large gaps with the window foam? I wonder if the screws, the foam and the two layers of caulk outside would be enough to keep the window in place.

    Nice video,
    According to Jeld-Wen the V 2500 Flush Fin Windows come with a 1 5/8" and 2 1/2" fin.
    You say 2" built-in trim? Please confirm, thanks

    I'm replacing windows in my house, do I need to remove all the sheetrock around the inside of the opening or can I install the same way leaving the sheet rock and trim the inside?

    This was a Fantastic video and very educational. you did a great job explaining all the steps thoroughly and wanted to say thank you for that!
    Had a question, I'm doing a DIY project on my back room and will be installing this same model window. My window measures 71.5-in x 47.5-in x 2.9065-in. Would I rough frame my window a 1/4 inch larger than that measurement, or would I rough frame in exactly 71.5 x 47.5? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

      Hello, Window opening should be larger by at least a 1/2", which will give you a 1/4" gap on all sides.

    I had picture windows , retrofit style with flush fin style installed on my stucco exterior. The stucco wall is flat surface so why are the bottoms of the vinyl fins not flush fat against the stucco wall? When I stand below the window and look up, I can see a gap. Is that supposed to be that way? Plus why did installer not caulk the bottoms? I was told they do not caulk the bottoms because it’s a retrofit window.

    Do you need the wood shims at the bottom of the window it it's a retrofit window ? I already have the casing and trim from the old window. The old window is the original window, it slides left to right.

    • @D.I.Y._All-in-One
      @D.I.Y._All-in-One  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends how it fits. If it fits flush and level, you might be able to not use shims. If its un level then shims may be required.

    Are these windows always installed over the siding? so to replace siding you must take out the windows?

    • @D.I.Y._All-in-One
      @D.I.Y._All-in-One  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the windows would probably have to be removed with new siding. The window could be installed in a manner where it sets flush with the siding then trim could go on top of it but that would defeat the purpose of having the Built-in trim though.

    What do recommend for the siding that over laps. Do you have a video for that type of window & trim? Thanks in advance!

    • @davewilson7602
      @davewilson7602 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s late but if you’re doing that type of siding you can get any type of window with a normal fin for new construction (install before siding over plywood) or a window with no fin for retrofit (look up a video for lap siding retrofit window install in that case)

      It's called 60" x 38" V-2500 flush fin 2 panel slider. Of course you would use the size window you need instead of the 60 x 38.

      @D.I.Y._All-in-One  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would just cut the shims after foam is dry. Some of the shims should line up with screws that secure window which makes a solid connection.

    • @satxpress
      @satxpress 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@D.I.Y._All-in-One I wanted to remove them completely with the screws so I can foam that area then put the screws back.

    • @D.I.Y._All-in-One
      @D.I.Y._All-in-One  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That will work but the window might not be as secure without the solid shim connection. The frame may have ever slight movement over time.
