This is so far one of the best instructional videos for removing double hung wooden windows and reinstalling replacement vinyl windows. Better then those fools at expert village
American Made Replacement Windows yep..... if all windows were made like that, and all houses were plumb and level to begin with, then yes. All this is, is a good example of how to install THAT window 😜
I guess that's the easy way to do it. I wanted bigger windows, so I took out the whole frame of my previous windows, and even increased the size of the opening by about an inch to get my new windows to fit. Of course, tearing into the house that much, then I had to replace rotten wood around the opening and redo a lot of drywall on the inside. But, I love the light that comes into the rooms now!
@1899lpv I'm an Andersen Fan and expert, but if I had to buy a non Andersen Company window, it would be Jeld- Wen. Andersen owns Renewel By Andersen, Silverline, and Eagle.
Just had a debate with a 30 year window installer. He says if its level you dont need shims. second. he didnt calk the outer back stom before setting. He just calked the oustside. He is now wanting to put all of the others flush with the outside and put metal flashing. why not just get the windows with the flange that fastens from the outside and just trim around it?
I'm going to tell you because they don't when they're offering an installation contract. Aftermarket windows, take 3-4 weeks to get to your store. they "consider" them a frickin custom made window eve though they slip right in any standard size existing window frame. So if you are planning on doing one or all your windows you have 1-2 months to plan. All the work is in getting all the trim moulding off after 50-69-100 yrs of paint. I'm a handyman/electrician. Many total remodels, new houses, commercial, industrial. one if the two home improvement conglomerates sent a rep. I was not told what happened til later. the "rep" was only there to close a total replacement of 11-12 windows of standard stock sizes. (3) 4'x4', 2) 5x3 & a 6x4. he only wanted those 4 for now. my customer doesn't know anything about how to measure windows, virtually nothing about construction. these reps know how to identify things like and are really good at salesmanship. John(not real) was just comparing, shopping bcuz he's upgraded in a little at a time. windows were from $138-$240 I think. John's on low budget at the moment. Maybe those 5 would have cost $1500 at most with my Labor. can demo, prep, install 2 a day complete trim, paint total. TRhey wouldn't give John the measurements unless he signed a ... $12,000 contract. That's $1000/window! they didn't agree by a looooongshot. one word scammers
Its now 2020 and this vinyl window is 11 years old and past its useful life span and needs to be replaced again ! - they SHOULD have just maintained the original wood window- those last for centuries *
I put on my own roof 15 years ago still holding up nice.. roofing was easy... don't know how you can fuck up a job this bad. Lesson learned do it yourself with some paid help.
@jvonharder Why do you think that I quit my job 2 months ago...The customers watch too many Home renovation shows. I want those windows because the host is good and if he installs them it means they are the best...Lady , I can't install your windows because they are flanged and you have Stucco outside. I have to adjust the price because the openings are too small. I told you...let me measure and order the windows. That big JW sticker is only good in the bathroom from my point of view.
We bought our windows your brand from menards late last year... the bottom glass broke due to human error. Is it on warranty? Do we have to have the receipt?
JELD-WEN windows are not a bit worth the money. I had 8 large windows that have to be replaced due to moisture, one cracked. worst is that Kamco carries the crap still....Total rip-off
Yep. Jeld Wen is garbage. My type-A balances are popping off all over my house. In 14 years [bought it new in 2000] we have had to replace 50% of them. Most windows on my house are almost never used [guest bedroom, reading room, etc.] and they break for, seemingly, no reason. The reason is, crappy design, crappy Chinese manufacturing, and a mid-range price. Go with Pella or almost any other window maker.
Windows to avoid at this point are: Pella, Marlborough,Farley,Jeld-wen and Alcan unless you want to keep your old Pearson, Donat Flamand, Vyna-guard or Laflamme. Damn guys who design those windows uses one of the best sealed unit on the market and wrap them in bio degradable, flimsy shit that they call vinyl. I just can wait to see who will come up with a decent fiberglass frame...Hey, it is all glass therefore it should expand and contract at the same rate. I go with North star. Fool proof...
If you check CR, you will find the V-2500 series one of the top 3 they rate as a recommended buy. I replaced 9 JW in Rapid City, SD about 20 years ago. They are a quality product. Had them installed by Lowes in San Angelo, as well. Had WW installed in San Antonio, and the we’re craptastic. $1100 in RC, $6K in San Angelo, and $8K in SanTone. I will never buy WW again. Period. I am going to install 18 in my Tieras, NM. home very soon. I will be purchasing the JW V-2500 series for high altitude.Period.
A white window in wood trim always looks disgusting. Either paint the trim or get a wood window (which will be infinitely better quality than a crappy vinyl window anyway).
I was wondering about this. Gonna put in replacement windows into original wood frame/trim. Would tan windows look ok? OR if you did white window then what color would you paint the trim?
Do Not buy Jeld-Wen Windows, bought a house with 11 Jeld-wen windows installed in 2020, 5 Windows are warped, others have issues like the latches do not line up. Temp was down to 11 degrees today, all the windows have condensation on the inside. 5 Windows have ice build up on the glass on the inside. ,. JUNK Windows.
*Great and Easy to instal **Fastly.Cool** Low noisy*

I bought Jeld-Wen windows in my last house about 8 years ago. They were ok, nothing special.
I put on my own roof 15 years ago still holding up nice.. roofing was easy... don't know how you can fuck up a job this bad. Lesson learned do it yourself with some paid help.
The quality of this video couldn't be worse. At times I can hardly see what the illustration is doing. C'mon.
Eric Allan oh come on now... it's colored beta max
The information was awesome though, it really was super helpful when we worked on our windows. :)
It's 10 years old.
why do they assume your windows are old enough to have cords??

You forgot to insulate the weight pocket of the window.

@gd420mj Nice
These are one of the lowest quality windows that you can buy. I wouldn't put these in my dog house.

I made it by myself. I used woodprix woodworking plans for that.
