    My MY2021 ID4 has been pretty awesome for me. A few small glitches yes but not really as bad as some bloggers make it sound. The downside in Canada is the pricing has increased by $10K for the same car and no more rebates available so about $18K more for the same car. Car sales overall have plummeted due to interest rates and a slow economy as well. It's not all about the car.

    I own a 23 id4 pro s awd bought for 29,000 and no problems! Have learned to use the interface which I found to be quite simple. Its a beautiful car and has plenty of room. Well worth the price I paid!

      @@stefan2796 Could say that about any car! When I installed solar some said the same thing and now a year on no problems. When I bought a Chevy Bolt EUV it was all about the car bursting into flames but not a single problem in a year of ownership. I find with electronics most problems show up in the first three months. Unlike Tesla VW chose to keep the driver's screen which for me adds to the safety of the vehicle.

    My experience with my ID5, is great, the only complaint I have is the voice control, it’s unworkable, I have turned it off, apart from that it is a very comfortable and drivable car.
    And VW have dealerships, if your car has a fault I take it a few miles to my local dealership that is peace of mind for me.
    Would I buy another one yes.

    The number one problem is these are not just electric vehicles. They are technology intensive vehicles. And that's a new game as well as just the EV drivetrain. So manufacturers are screwing it up in always possible.
    Do you remember the early days of the US automotive industry? They had different ways of steering cars... Two tiny steering Wheels one for each hand..... They had a boat car.... Different configurations.. it took time to shake out what was normal and universally best.
    Well we're going through that all over again over the next two decades..... Because every manufacturer is trying to reinvent the wheel themselves.
    This actually will work against adoption of Ev. They should do one thing at a time electric drivetrain before all the technological BS.. but since Tesla had such a head start as a technology car for enthusiasts of technology...... they're all playing catch up and trying to make too many changes at once. Most are going to fall on their face.... Who knows who will be on top 20 years from now..... Most likely it will not be any legacy automakers because they are too resistant to change.... And when they do make changes they're absurd

    I don't know about the rest of the world but many US state incentives ended at the end of the calendar year in 2023. We bought an ID.4 in November 2023 because the state was giving $4,000 point of sale rebate, no sales tax, plus we got the $7,500 federal rebate plus $500 from VW and 3.9% financing. At the beginning of 2024 the $7,500 federal rebate was in question and the state rebate would not be renewed until the summer of 2024 if at all. I think this explains the reduced sales in the beginning of 2024. So far the vehicle has been reliable albeit a little glitchy. But our Tesla M3 also has some software glitches. Recently the climate buttons stopped appearing in the app and Tesla said a bug fix was a couple of weeks away. I guess all software controlled vehicles will have some glitches.

    VW frustrated their current ID4 customers with their lack of software support and updates for a long time. 3 years later, basic features like plug and charge and battery preconditioning are still not available for the 21 and 22 model years not to mention the slow to response infotainment system. People are now coming out of their leases of the 21 model years and they’re not going back to VW but rather looking at alternatives.

    Based on the improvements (infotainement, Engines and ergonomics) I ordered a 2024 ID4. Was told I should expect it in 2-3 months time. I had also ordered an Ioniq 5 last fall, but told it will be at least 18 months before I get it here in Canada. I prefer the interior and handling of the 2024 ID4 and will be cancelling my order for the Ioniq 5.

      New ID4 is vastly better than its predecessors. Shame Sam doesn’t review cars, just slates the usual suspects and promotes the ones he has shares in. Plenty of positive reviews for the latest ID4 as it’s very good, VW have finally got a compelling vehicle, after putting out cars full of issues.

      Go to a Tesla Service Center. Do an Overnight on a Model Y. If you hate Elon, get over it. I would never ever touch a VW ID.4 much less give money for one. Or wait for the Hyundai or a Kia. But FFS do not buy an ID.4 or a Toyota based EV. Not only are they trash now but in 2-3 years when you want to sell it nobody will want anything to do with them. You will basically take a $30k + hit from buying that car. Even the current model is worse in every way than a 6 year old Tesla that you can buy used for about half the price of the cheapest ID.4

      Not available in Australia, but $60k in nz own one no issues and wouldn't go back to Chinese brands, rear wheel drive, usual vw being solidly built

      @@OceanGuy808 Just out of interest what part of the world and what pricing? Are you intending to lease? Here in the UK, speccing the 2024 ID4 to be close to the Model Y and it is already a crazy £52k+ compared to £44k for the Model Y. That they don't include a granny cable and heat pump as standard is a bit of a cheek.

    I think the ID.4 sales slowdown is mostly due to customers waiting for the imminent release of the updated version with MIB 4 and the APP550 motor. These are worthwhile updates, and I would certainly wait for one instead of putting money down for the early version.

    Back in the 1970s Ford, Volkwagon occasionally Vauxhall built cars that us ordinary punters could aspire to. Then their attitude slanted to "give them anything that's new and shiny and the mugs will still flock to buy it". They still seem to have this mindset and the Chinese and Tesla are shafting them. Good isn't it?

    Don't forget the non illuminated capacitive sliders located on the lower edge of the screen on previous models. Try to chance your temperature or fan speed at night while driving, when you can"t even see them.

      If you think there are bad issues with the id4, try owning the Chinese brands, the id4 is 1000% better built along with software, traded our Chinese built one because it rusted in 18 months, id4 soooo much smoother

    ID.4 is lacking basic functions like V2L, battery preheating (for pre-v4.0 soft)... why would anyone bother with this car if competition has all of those out of the box

      Bullshit. V2L is not basic. Most cars in the same segment of ID 4 don t have V2L, included Tesla. ID 4 2024 do have preheating.

    There is a lot of interest among my friends in the US for the ID4. If VW gets over the quality issues and the horrible screen interface their sales would pop. More range would also sweeten the pot. Value for money it’s hard to beat the 3 and Y. Other car companies can’t just do minimums. That might have worked 10-12 years ago. Right now they look behind.

    NEWS RELEASE: Electric Viking didn't do his research, again. VW shot itself in the foot last October when they let it out of the bag that the 2024 ID.4 would have more powerful and efficient motors as well as a better and faster infotainment system. Smart customers, not including Electric Viking, ignored the 2023 models and waited until Mar. 2024 to get their ID.4. That's why the 1st quarter was so slow.
    2024 ID.4 models now available in Canada are basically the same price as for 2023. No big price reduction as you suggest. You mixed the story up so much. You personally are part of the problem of negative faux-media affecting potential EV Buyers decisions. Smarten up and do a better job.

    I bought a Tesla Model Y in February. The ONLY other EVs I considered were Kia and Hundai. I will strongly NOT recommend VW because their software for their vehicles AND their Electrify America charging stations is absolute SHIT! They have had YEARS to fix this, but it is still horrible. You cannot find an EA charging station that charges at the rate stated on it. 150s routinely get only 50-60 and 350s are lucky to get 100. And those are the units that work. Many, many more don't even function and VW is ridiculously slow getting out to repair them.

      I have a 2023 s plus w software 3.5, zero issues. The switchgear ergonomics can be questionable but other, happy customer with zero issues.

      Maybe an issue with American made vw's, ours is German made no issues, the only American made vw we is the amorak ute which is made by Ford.

      @@kecward78 You are talking about an issue that existed 3 years ago. ID 4 is one of the best midsegment-EV you can buy today everything taken into consideration. The lagging infotainment concerned the first ID 4 models, most of them have gotten update today. And the newest models at least from 2024 got new software and hardware. I would say Tesla fantom braking and panel gape were worst. In term of build quality Tesla is behind VW. Tesla especially Model Y has harsh suspension and noisy cabin.
      And EA charging issue is american issue. In Europe charging infrastructure is better. Tesla is the EV with most complain in Norway by the way.

      We have 2023 ID.4 and earlier software issues have been fixed. So far no problems except for Apple CarPlay glitchy. But we only have 6,000 miles on car. Hopefully nothing major arises. Have Tesla M3 also and there are glitches with connectivity too. But Tesla software is the gold standard.

      Two of my friends, one with the bolt and one with an ID 4 love their cars, but both have major complaints about charging on the road. I love our model three.

    Funny info in this channel. In Netherlands, in 2022 the VW iD 4 was listed starting price €39.850. In 2024 the starting price is €44.000.
    In my math that is a price increase of around €4.000. But every time i listen to Sam, i have to hear that EV brand xxx has "slashed" the prices with mega amounts . . . . . .
    Probably we in the EU live in a different reality.

    How come a 62kWh battery only gives a range of 206 miles? My car's 52kWh gives a manufacturer's quoted range of 243 miles, and I average more than that throughout a year. Only yesterday I achieved an average of 5.6 miles per kWh, with ambient temperatures of up to 16°C.

      33 kwh is 1 gallon equivalent. 62 is less than two gallons equivalent, putting fuel economy at greater than 100 mpge which is normal crossover fuel economy.

    I drove the initial US cars, they were uninspiring. That said, this will sell to CRV, RAV4, etc owners - it doesn’t need to be exciting. Drove the 2024 version, and while drivability seems much better the interior is SO low rent and cheap feeling.

    The fame of the id family of cars is mostly set: terrible infotainment system that you have to constantly interact with, and the interior is cheaply made, and it shows.
    Mediocre range, mediocre power.
    It seems like the range is now still mediocre but up to mediocre cars of today, power is decent and touch screen is of unknown quality, but the sw will be terrible.
    The interior is said to be better (not difficult) and looks like they put some insulation.
    Are the rest of the components still cheap crap? We don't know.
    Question is.. why id4 and not machE. Or Tesla.

    Every EV is down in America Tesla polestar Kia VW Nissan Gm no one wants range anxiety if I only did short commutes I would buy an ID4 instead I will stick to my Tiguan RLine. Sweet ride !!!

    VW should try Thailand (and ASEAN) EV market(s) that has much fewer competitions from non-Chinese EVs. VW can be a great Chinese-EV-Killer for sure.

    It is very simple. When a company builds an emerging technology product so bad as the ID.4 on purpose in order to convince people to keep buying their gas cars, guess what. Nobody will buy your car. And that is what they did with the ID.4 and are now wondering why sales are so poor. Every time I see one on the road I want to stop and ask them why TF did you buy that car? Have they never driven ANY other EV? Or are they just a VW brand loyalist and will buy whatever garbage they decide to produce. The ID.4 and the BZ4X or whatever TF it is are tied for the absolute worst EV's ever made. And why are they so bad? Because of what I said. Neither of those companies wanted to make an EV but did so because they had to.
    VW, if you are listening. Scrap the ID.4. Just toss it all in the garbage and start over. Talk to Hyundai and ask if you can sell an EV using their platform or Tesla or anybody. I test drove an ID.4 in 2021 and I could not return the car fast enough. I have owned a Chevy Bolt for over 4 years and now also have a Tesla Model 3. The Bolt platform is no 7 years old and was a better car 7 years ago than a 2024 ID.4. My Model 3 is 8 years old and just got a software update this morning and runs FSD like a champ and is still every bit as good as a new 2023 Model 3. I have lost all respect for VW as a company. Or maybe take a peek at what Porsche is doing. Why can they built a fantastic EV like the Taycan but all you can make is runny dog poo mixed with gasoline and lit on fire in a dumpster. But then again a fully loaded Taycan costs twice as much as a Model S Plaid so maybe it is the VW group can build a good EV, they just can't make a good EV affordable.

    I will probably be getting one. We drove it as well as the Y and S. VW still has great comfort and road handling. I don't give a damn about power as I also drive a T3 (Vanagon for Americans), LOL

    The new ID7 has a much better BMS. Software seems OK also. Any ID models before the ID (except for the little e-UP): RUN!!! The older ID series is pure crap on wheels. VAG/VW ist kaput!

    2023 Pro S Plus owner. We still own our 2021 Blot and had a Model 3 ER. The ID 4's made in TN with the SK battery are well built and most of us that own them have very few complaints. Capacitive controls work just fine but are simply different than legacy knobs. Plug and Charge at EA works every bit as good now as the Tesla did. I talk with other ID4 owners daily and most of us are very happy with our purchase. The problem EV cars have today has more to do with companies like Ford, KIA, Hyundai that parasite off of the current EV charging infrastructure and do nothing to put more chargers in the ground. Individuals that purchase a Parasite EV of any brand and have no way of charging them except the public charging network get what they deserve. The hours I have spent teaching people how to charge their own car got tiresome so I just let Parasites suffer these days.

      I agree.
      The overwhelming majority of people that complain about EVs don't own or drive one. I had coworkers who drive ICE asking me how the cold weather affected my range. My 26-mile one way to work? Seriously?

    I am not going to buy an electric car as it doesn't meet my budget nor driving needs. However, that said who needs the ID4, no one. There are just to many alternatives be it gas powered, plug-in, or upcoming full electric models. Why have they sat on their electric van so long. That is about the only thing that differentiates VW from it's competitors, and it won't take long for someone to copy the Buzz and make it cheaper and better.

    The ID.4 has achieved a pretty bad reputation which the updated version seem not to deserve anymore. If I was CEO of VW America I would equip all dealers with demo cars for 24h free rides. This would show potential car buyers what a nice car the ID.4 has become and boost perception and sales.

    I bought a 2023 ID.4.
    I don't give two shiths about the stupid interface.
    I am not looking to play games as I drive down the road.
    I wanted a nice looking, nice driving, nice riding car, at a huge discount.
    That seems to be what I got.
    The real problem is the charging network.
    If you can not do 100% of your charging at home DO NOT EVEN LOOK AT THIS CAR ! ! ! ! ! !!
    I got three years of free charging at Electrify America.
    I have been there 6 times, charged free one time, paid 52 cents per Kilowatt one time went home empty 4 times.
    And to make it even better there is only one EA location with in 40 miles of my house.
    This is not a problem for me, I have a small RV for road trips.
    All in all I really like the car so far.
    I did not buy the TESLA because of all the stupid design choices.
    Door handles, glass roof (I live in Texas and there is this thing called the sun), have to pay extra for a color that does not suck.
    You know little things like that.

    Thank you Sam. I am the proud owner of a 2023 VW ID.4 Pro S and I am super happy with the driving experience. There seems to be a lot of OTA updates and it messes up my personal settings with lighting, seat adjustment, etc. but other than that I am good. It is fast, powerful, comfortable and being able to use the massage chair feature while driving is so very nice. 🏜🕺🏻🐕🏖🚙

      You’re on about the older models, the new ID4 is very good. Plenty of people who actually review cars putting out actual reviews, rather than Samsung with his bias opinions. Guy owned an Atto3 which he quickly sold and now drives round in an ICE vehicle, he’s good for specs, but can’t be taken seriously as a reviewer of any car.

    Like Tesla’s and Kia’s have no problems lol Kia’s catch on fire easy to steal older models and tons of transmission problems still some at 2000 miles and Tesla’s with quality issues but people still buy them. Volkswagen service department are terrible the people are usually rude and nasty I went to my friends Mitsubishi and Nissan dealers and they treat you like you are part of a family huge difference.

    Typical Volkswagen pricing is the reason why it's not selling, it can only hold 4 adults, then they have it priced at where the much larger Chevy Blazer EV or Honda Prologue, car companies will have to price their EV models accordingly, all SUV/CUV EV models aren't in the same class, just saying

    People who are willing to buy EVs already have. Those who are against it, won't, and those who are on the fence are fewer and fewer.

    Meh, i have a 23 Plus S that i have put 2k per month on it with ZERO issues. The capacitive controsl are asine but not a deal breaker. 3.5 is a solid release. Some people love to complain about anything.

    Well yes / of course sales have slowed - ID.4 sales in the US are lagging BECAUSE the new / updated model is coming with a more powerful rear motor and the promise of updated s/w WITH BATTERY PRECONDITIONING. Why would a US buyer purchase a long range ID.4 with weaker motor and S L O W s/w and poor low temp charging.
